Are you kidding me? By A67KO59SG2880 on 2005-10-08
The item came with the wrong screws and nuts. I had to wait for the correct ones but they never did send me the right ones. Right now I had to find the right screws because if you follow the instructions, the screws and nuts that connect the bars are oddly loose. What a piece of crap.
Everlast? Probably won't be ever lasting. By A2EJZ5ZIGVNYSE on 2005-11-10
CONS:
1. Incorrect hardware: Like other reviewers, the nuts and bolts do not seem to be the best.
2. Harms surface. One side that holds on to other side of the wall has a very abrasive surface which will mar any paint/finish. This material was probably chosen to prevent slippage, however rubber might've worked as well.
PROS:
1. Cheaper than others.
CONCLUSION:
For the price it's okay, but I don't think it's going to last 2+ years of daily use. Very annoying was the hardware provided which doesn't seem to match the description in the user manual.
Not for six-inch interior framing By A1P74WKKMGI5XS on 2006-03-13
This seems to be a fine product. However, our house was built with six inch studs (instead of the usual four inch studs). This means the door frames are wider, and this product does not work with these dimensions.
Be careful! By A29J7SR07R2X0Q on 2006-10-23
I used this product successfully as a chin-up bar (palms facing me). When I turned my grip away to do pull-ups, the bar slipped while I was at the top of my pull. I fell and got a few bumps and bruises. This happened twice (shame on me). I did put some cushioning material on the bar that goes over the frame so as to protect the wall from damage. Be careful how you use it. I have decided not to use mine anymore until I find a way to attach it more securely.
Useless By AGX8P5TGF5NY8 on 2006-09-26
Won't stay on my doorframe. Slides right off.
Installation pictures would have been nice so I could tell what kind of doorframe it would actually work with.
- Perfectly functioning pull-up bar
     By ALHJOTP2WSCG on 2007-06-24
I've had my Everlast pull-up bar for over a month now. In short, coming from someone who's been doing pull-up workouts routinely for the last 3 years, its everything it is supposed to be. A great product, as advertized.
My pull-up bar shipped promptly and was packed in an additional external box, thereby protecting the actual product box as well as keeping the object of my purchase 'private'.
The pieces were all present and in new condition, as well as all of the required nuts and screws. Contrary to what some reviewers have reported, ALL of the nuts and screws fit perfectly. Some of the screws had a unique, rubber coating on the inside of the nut - this allows for a much tighter, more secure connection thus increasing the longevity of the device. The instructions (as well as the quantity) clearly indicate where those special nuts are to be used.
It fits my door-frame perfectly; the inner space between my door-frame measures 30 inches. So I guess from outer-edge to outer-edge that makes my door-frame about 34 inches.
The instructions were very, very clear and complete assembly took me about 10-15 minutes. The instructions say that the device holds up to 300 lbs. Through the use of a weight-vest I've tested it to 200 lbs without any problem or anything to make me think that the device couldn't withstand at least another 50 lbs.
The instructions include a toll-free number for you to call and, if need be, request a replacement set of nuts and screws, FREE of charge. That's nice.
Additionally, there's a 1 year product warranty (from the date of purchase, so keep that receipt) for repairs or replacement, free of charge, in the event of a defect in materials or workmanship.
I have not attempted to use it for sit-ups or pushups - so I can't attest to its functionality in those uses, however for pull-ups/chin-ups it is more than adequate and I can see this device lasting for well over a year; longer if it doesn't get thrown around, played on, or otherwise abused/misused.
Fantastic product. It is a bargain. I just bought a second one for my friend right before starting this review. :) Thank you Everlast & Amazon.
If I could recommend a pull-up workout routine to you, it would be the "Armstrong Pullup Program". (Type that into google, the program is free :)) It took me from 12 pullups to 21 in just under 2 months. I found that taking 3-4 days rest period was better for me than just the 2 days in a weekend.
- Hope in one hand. **** in the other. See which fills up first.
     By A14IF5MRCQLQOO on 2006-01-27
I try to be optimistic but this thing isn't helping. I can't believe they put the Everlast name on this piece of junk. I read the other reviews and figured I'd try my luck. Naturally, I also received the wrong assembly hardware. The bolts are too small (or the holes are too large) in diameter to provide anything but sloppy construction. The parts list and assembly instructions show six of only one type of nut. There are two types included: four lock nuts, two standard nuts. The parts list and assembly instructions also show six PVC caps for the nuts. There are only four. The metal tubing seems rather thin walled for the price. Maybe I'm too picky but shouldn't some step of the product development process involve actually assembling one of these things and trying it out? I guess it's just another example of the growing trend of "Give people the least quality they'll stand for."
- this works for some people
     By A1IPDA59UKUNBX on 2006-03-27
Basically, the problem with this unit is that you need the right doorframe and you have to be the right height as a person... Although the width of my doorframe was fine, the width of my walls were actually thin... So, what happens is that all that's holding you up is a 1/8 of an inch of wood, and if you that slips, down you go... Also, it creates considerable stress on the wall, and the paint started to crack after 6 pullups.. For me, in many ways, this product is an accident waiting to happen...
If your walls are 8 to 9 inches thick, your door frame very strong and you are average height (no taller than 5'10"), then this could possibly work for you... I'm 6'5" and between all the other factors, this did not work for me at all, as a result, I returned it... It's an idea that's almost there, but not quite there yet...
- Nice product, easy assembly
     By AWLCYZH60Y02K on 2006-03-19
The people complaining about the assembly obviously don't know how to use a socket wrench. All the parts are there, and they all fit in easy. The instruction manual doesn't tell you that you need a socket wrench, though.
Use a 13/32" and a 7/16" bit, one for the screw and one for the nut.
After the assembly, it's smooth sailing. Incredible product, very diverse. Beats the heck out of those cheap bars with the big chunks of metal you have to screw into your wall and mess up your house with.
- Terrible!
     By AC95MKC4IR223 on 2007-03-01
I wanted to confirm that I had the same experience as the other dissatisfied reviewers. The Everlast Bar comes with nuts that don't fit the screws. The nuts are laced with a hard inner plastic lining that requires you to use powertools to force the screw to chisel through. I returned it for a new one, thinking that surely this was a mistake, but the replacement had the same pieces. Horrible!
However, I was determined to make my purchase work, so I put it together with force. Once I had everything assembled, I found that the bar does not keep together by design; even with the screws pretty secured, the outer loops on the bar (they are supposed to serve as multi-purpose handles) can unhinge and detach from the bar, because their connection to the bar on one side is not secured by screws. That's absolutely ridiculous when this is clearly supposed to be keep you safely suspended in mid-air.
Thoroughly dissatisfied. I've used the Door Gym and it's much more secure than this.
- Nearly Killed Me
     By ADQB0J7TAC7JN on 2007-11-03
This thing fell off the doorway while I was doing a pull-up. I fell down and landed right on my head. I am not going to waste any more time but basically this product is cheap and flimsy. Buy one you can screw into a doorway or wall.
- Excellent...as a chin-up bar only
     By A1SC11T46ODAN6 on 2006-05-07
OK the price is certainly right so lets keep that in mind.
Pros:
a. Rock solid mounting in a standard doorway (see assembly)
b. Ergonomics are well thought out
c. Supports my 185 pound frame well with no noticable frame flex/shift
d. No noticable damage to door frame, I plan to buy some felt to cover the wood/wall contact points but it looks ok as is.
Cons:
a. Hardware - some of the screws/bolts are wrong for this application. I spent about $2.00 extra to buy a couple of new bolts with locking nuts. This is to replace the oddly square headed ones that are supposed to go in the wood portion. I also bought "locking" washers all the way around for all bolts - total cost +2.00. It has been mentioned before that a few of the plastic protective caps are missing - mine was the same case. No big deal here but it is a common complaint.
b. It claims to support 300 pounds. I suppose it could "hold" a 300 pounder but to actually do repetitive excersise reps I have my doubts.
c. Photo advertising is somewhat misleading. As a chin up bar I give it high marks but the multi function excersises (photos) leave a bit to be desired. Do not plan on using this for much more than its original purpose.
DO spend your time to put this together very solid using multiple socket tools and everything should be fine.
The "free" shipping to Texas took about 7 days from order.
- avoid
     By A2QCULKZ8P7HP3 on 2007-11-18
don't even bother with this product. it WILL NOT stay in place and if it does, it won't for very long.
it moves around too much, even during the measley 5 reps I could get out of it before it slipped from its position.
the wood part has some paltry sandpaper on it that's SUPPOSED to grip and hold it in place. even if that worked it wouldn't matter, the poor glue (or lack thereof) won't even keep the sandpaper on the wood anyway.
and if there's a question of me being extremely hefty or anything, i weigh 185 lbs.
save your money, find something else

Everlast has made a solid product. I would agree that it is much more affordable than similar chinning bars. The multiple hand grips allow for a variety of pullups/chins without having to purchase additional equipment. For those who are considering purchasing this product, I would suggest reading the description especially the statement "Fits most doorways up to 32". Use a tape measure on your door frames. If you have doors smaller than 32" you should be in good shape. I would have given 5 stars, but I also received the wrong size washers and bolts just like a previous reviewer.
- pull your way to buffness!
     By A2PSSGTIUNY2BF on 2005-09-21
worked as advertised in my door frame, but not so well in my friends'. However, he lives in an older building with smaller door frames. Seems to work better in the newer type of door frames...
- It has potential, but...
     By A1W8U0XGS4LUM7 on 2006-06-25
Mine doesn't seem to fit together quite right. Other people have mentioned using different screws and nuts than what it comes with, but they should really send it with the right parts. I also found the instructions to be somewhat vague. I think with a slight redesign, this could be an excellent product.
- my head really hurts
     By A135IR2CRHD3Z3 on 2006-10-27
i was just using it and the trim broke. i hit myself in the face with the bar, fell backwards and hit my head on the wall. my face, the back of my head, and both my jaws hurt! ouch!
- only good for push ups
     By A13ZT12EEJCG9H on 2007-09-15
It slips from door jams, I would say its not safe to use as chin ups bar.
- Stay Away From!!!!!
     By AGBHTWI0FTX41 on 2007-11-21
I purchased this product today and I am very disappointed with it. Reviews from 2005 state that it comes with incorrect hardware. November 2007 they still sell this with the incorrect hardware. The bolts are way too big for this system. I had to use my own nuts to get it tight enough to use. Also it does not fit on my doorway correctly. It fits good on one side of my door frame but the other side is almost off the frame. It barely stays on and if you sway it at all when doing pullups, it comes crashing down!
I would not recommend this product.
- Definitely worth the money
     By A1APJZTIV3K6OB on 2005-08-02
This is a great product because it allows you to quickly get a mini workout at home, with little equipment. It hangs over the doorway, does not mess up your trim boards, and is very sturdy. The padded grips allow several different hand positions during pull ups and push ups. Sit ups...ehh, its not the greatest for, it will hold your feet for you, but nothing great. My only complaint was that they included some wrong bolts and washers to attach the wood piece, so I went to Lowe's and bought 2 bolts for $0.30. I love it, I can get a couple sets of pull-ups or push-ups in during a commercial and if I can't make it to the gym, I don't feel as guilty.
- good workout
     By A3ODH8U2NKL2OJ on 2005-10-13
its perfect for working out but when you take it off the door frame it leaves black marks.
- This sold for $5.00 at Ross.
     By A22I9FF4OPWKEG on 2005-12-29
Absolute junk. This sold for only $5.00 in a Ross department store. When you examine the construction quality of this device you will see why even at $5.00 it still doesn't sell.
- It's pretty good
     By A1IOZ4RUQHZAE6 on 2006-03-24
It had different nuts and bolts then the instructions but I used them anyway and it worked. It seems rather cheaply made, it says it can support up to 300 pounds but I seriously doubt that, my brother is about 190 and it was buckling when he tried it. I use it a few times a week and I like it, the different hand grips are what makes it worth the money.
- Great product, but a few design flaws
     By A3VIOARUC5CEJP on 2006-03-26
Let me begin by stating that I love doing pull ups. When I saw this product I thought that it looked like a great idea/option other than the traditional screw-in types. When it arrived I assembled it fairly quickly (15 minutes), and rushed to do a bunch of pull ups.
It was at this point that I encountered this product's fatal flaw. I live in an older house, and it seems that ALL of my doorways are too "deep" to use this. Width wise they are ok. I am totally bummed out, but I'm going to keep it just in case I move somewhere with more shallow doorways.
I advise anyone buying this product to look at/measure their doorways (depth and width) to make sure you aren't bummed out like me.
- Nice for pull-ups
     By A13486E97DRX8M on 2007-01-09
My main concern when buying this product was making sure I didn't have to permanently attach it to anything. I simply wanted a pull-up/chin-up bar that I didn't have to mount to the wall. This did exactly that. It feels a little light, but holds my weight steadily. I'm 180lbs.
After using it for a while the assembly did get a little louse, but I tightened it back up and everything was just fine. I haven't used it to do any of the other exercises, and probably won't. It's a great purchase. Also, slips under the bed when not in use.
- Complete workout for the time constrained
     By A1Q4M1F5OA8FF5 on 2005-10-08
This is a great, quick, all in one contraption. It doesn't require any holes or extra modifications to the doorway. I do chinups, pushups, handstand pushups, and sit-ups with it, which covers most of the upper body. Just do some neck bridges and some bodyweight squats or hindu squats and you've got a complete whole body workout. It leaves a slight mark from the black foam cushions, but I'm sure they could be wiped off. Again, a good buy for somebody with limited time and money.
- Unfortunately, this isn't ready out of the box: it's missing parts!
     By A224MVTQJ6RQW0 on 2005-12-29
When you open up the box, you'll find the parts and quantities do not match the quantities indicated on the instruction sheet. The item came with the wrong screws and nuts. In fact, the "instructions" come with a few lines after "step 3" which instruct you to call the customer service department (number provided) and parts will be sent. When I called, the person said that this is common and that they will send a "pre-packaged set of parts" so I can only hope they send the proper screws and nuts.
- good idea, but ...
     By A20MPZ9VY9XS3X on 2006-01-31
This chinning bar dosen't fit around the molding of my door frames. It will only fit newer frames but those aren't really sturdy enough to hold and it also scratches the wall. I don't recommend it.
- seems ok
     By AE58NR81XIXP6 on 2006-04-30
seems like it will work fine if it came with better fitting screws/nuts. but it doesn't, nor do they give you much help with that. can someone give me some info as to how to get it to fit right?
- A frustrating and futile purchase
     By A262BW9PZJQIDN on 2008-01-20
I bought this doorway pullup bar at my local sporting goods store, which clearly had not taken a look at it before offering the device for sale. Like so many other reviewers, I opened the box to find the wrong hardware included and very poorly worded instructions. At least one reviewer claimed that you can put the rig together correctly by somehow divining that a socket wrench is needed; this is wrong. The hardware is INCORRECT for the device, and you would have to supply your own bolts and nuts or try to force the supplied materials to work. After returning the poorly made product to the store, I picked up the Door Gym by Creative Fitness, put it together in a couple of minutes, and began using it with great satisfaction.
