    (80 reviews)
Best Price: $69.95 $42.88
Keep your sports training focused with the stylish Timex T5E231 Ironman Triathlon multi-function, performance sport digital watch, which features a dark gray resin top ring sitting upon a metallic silver case and top pusher for easy access to split and lap times. Sport timing features include a 100-hour chronograph with lap or split option, 100-lap memory recall, 199 lap counter, on-the-fly recall of lap or split, and interval timers settable up to 24 hours (9 timers with countdown/stop and countdown/repeat). The training log stores workouts by date, with best lap, average lap, and total segment time, and the total run format/synchro timer maintains total activity time (less time paused during workout and overall running time. Other features include two time zones, built-in setting reminders, water resistance to 100 meters, and a black resin strap. It incorporates the Timex Flix system, which activates the Indiglo night-light with a simple flick of your wrist. To activate FLIX, put the watch into Night-Mode by pressing and holding the Indiglo night-light button 3 seconds until it beeps. With the watch in Night-Mode, a forward "flick" of the wrist with a sharp "stop" will activate the Indiglo night-light for three seconds. The Indiglo night-light uniformly lights the surface of the watch dial using patented blue electroluminescent lighting technology. It uses less battery power than most other watch illumination systems, enabling your watch battery to last longer. The Night Mode feature allows you to illuminate the Indiglo night-light for 3 seconds with any button press, regardless of the mode or function.

This is a great digital watch By A34B4RIUQF314D on 2007-03-26
I've had it for only a couple of weeks - bought it at a certain nationwide store that has a crosshair symbol as the emblem - and then accidentally saw this page on Amazon, so I thought I'd review it.
It's very comfortable as another review said.
It looks great. At first, I was a little self conscious about wearing this big thing when I first got it home and tried it on, but come to think of it, it's not that much bigger than my Seiko diver's
I'd highly recommend it. Defintely happy with it, even though I won't be using most of the many features on it.
( But I'd sure like a watch with multiple timers one of these days. Even though I sometimes use the multiple Alarms on this thing, having multiple *timers* is way more useful to me, since I like to have a timer for 40 min for a lot of the things I cook, and another timer always set at 25 min to get the clothes in the washer, and then a couple of other timers always available for whatever comes up)
slow By A1LCO3C4LIJANB on 2007-03-08
I have owned several timex ironman watches over the years. Loved 'em all. I don't if amazon sent me one with an almost dead battery, or if it's a flaw in the watch. However, when punching through the modes, everything is REALLY SLOW. If I go to alarm, I have to wait a few seconds for it to appear, then wait a few more when I choose to modify it. Not quick an easy like my other ironmans. Great features though, if it wasn't for this annoying delay, 5 stars easy.
So I don't know to blame amazon or timex for this. Either way, it is a problem that dropped the score for me.
For my purposes, still the best all-around digital watch out there By A3QXZ4E4TELVWL on 2007-12-21
I've had various incarnations of the Timex Ironman watches over the years. They take a beating and have great functionality. To me, this model has about the best practical value overall, being rather feature-laden without being overcomplicated. One distinct value of this watch over the "sleek" and similar models, is that it does NOT have an integrated band. Sure, integrated bands look cool, but if you wear the watch daily the band will start to break down after about a year and then you have to send it back to Timex for a new band. Not so with this watch. New users will have to take a little time to figure out the various functions of the watch, but once you get the idea, operation is very logical. The stopwatch is great for training, having more laps at your disposal than you're ever likely to need, multiple timers and alarms, and two time zones. These are also useful for training, but also just useful in general life (moreso than you'd think). In all, a solid choice for a digital sports watch, and an excellent value considering Amazon's prices. Highly recommended.
Solved a Whole Raft of Problems By A2RWJ3QJRXGD96 on 2007-04-01
This is the fourth watch I've bought for running since I began to need reading glasses for near objects, and its the only one that solved all the problems aged eyes cause a runner. The FLIX option is fantastic and worked without a hitch, and is easy to see at night. The buttons are easy to see and work, and become intuitive within an hour of strapping the watch on, even while running. Its even fairly attractive, as digital watches go. Most important is that the numbers are large, clear, and easy to read even when running through the desert -- as an aside, if you ever get shin splints try offroad running, especially in deep sand: its easier on your legs, more effective as cardiovascular excercise and much more interesting. My only complaint (and its a small one) is that a digital compass would have been a nice addition for offroad runners, but I was able to fix that with a Suunto Clipper L Micro Compass (Luminous Bezel). Other than that this watch would get a five star rating, so if you run on the street, buy it.
Great Watch! By A3HWYNM4PX3TQM on 2006-11-25
I've seen this watch in stores for $65. Bought it using my Amazon Prime for $43, free shipping, got it 2 days later. Its a great watch, especially the Flix system. It took me a short time to figure out the right way to flick my wrist to activate the light, but once I got it, it worked every single time. Besides the great features, its a good-looking watch also.
- great sports watch
     By AKIQA0KGC902 on 2007-09-11
This is a great sports watch that is easy and intuitive to use. The interface is such that I picked up this watch and within a few minutes had figured out nearly all of the functionality. This watch has five clocks, a single shot timer, an interval timer with nine slots, a 100-lap/split chronograph and multiple alarms. The interval timer is a very nice feature and is excellent for timed interval workouts (i.e. 1 minute effort, two minutes rest, etc.) The chronograph works simultaneously with the timers, so that is nice. The face has large, easily visible characters and the FLIX system is very nice - you can turn on the Indiglo light with just a flick of the wrist.
The only minor nitpick I have (and this may be my failing) is that I can't figure out how to change which of the five clocks is shown by default - it always seems to show clock 1 and pressing the split button cycles you through the clocks. Really this is only a problem if you travel between different time zones a lot.
Overall, this watch exceeded my expectations and I highly recommend it.
- Decent workout watch, but chime is very weak, no Tabatas
     By A1Z6PSZZX8Y5IR on 2008-05-29
This watch replaced a G-shock as my primary workout and everyday watch. I bought it primarily because I am now doing mostly interval workouts, both for running and in the gym, and wanted an audible indicator so I did not have to keep checking my watch.
PROS:
Decent-looking watch, except for the BOLD white-wall lettering on the band, but a Sharpie takes care of that. Numbers easy to see, controls easy to figure out and manipulate. Rubber strap does not absorb sweat or grab wrist hairs. FLIX feature very handy for night work, not overly bright. Light-weight, lower profile than typical G-shock.
CONS:
1. Weak chime - hard to hear over any noise.
The roads I'm running are reasonably quiet, aside from the occasional UH-60 helo flying over or diesel honey-truck going by, so most of the time I can hear the multi-tone chime signaling end-of-interval, but have missed it when a vehicle is passing by. Fugedaboudit if you're in a typical loud gym with music, cardio machines, TVs, and the grunters and plate-slammers, or your own mp3 player, Creative Zen Stone Plus 2 GB MP3 Player (Black).
2. Will NOT work for Tabata Intervals of 20 seconds work, 10 seconds rest, repeat 8 times. I set INT 1 at 20 seconds, INT 2 at 10 seconds (REPEAT at end), then DONE. At end of first 20 sec interval the watch gives only the faintest "pip" before going into interval 2 - practically impossible to hear if you're involved in any intense cardio exercise. After a little experimenting I discovered that if the second interval is set below 15 seconds you'll only get that 'pip,' otherwise you get a more noticeable "ditty-dee, ditty-dee" signaling the start of interval 2. DOES give a very noticeable 10-second chime at end of interval 2 as it recycles to 1 and repeats.
3. Menu lag time. There's an annoying 3-4 second lag when switching to the CHRONO mode before you can press START. Does not seem to affect other modes. I'm impatient, and switching between CHRONO and INTERVAL modes while working out or running should not cost me time.
I might buy this again for a running watch, but for my primary workouts (RossTraining.com) I now use the awesome $20 Gymboss Interval Timer clipped to the band of my Ironman watch, set to VIBRATE 1-second between intervals. GYMBOSS does Tabatas perfectly! Train Hard!
- What's not to like?
     By A1E6SDLB8E4JER on 2007-10-31
I read other people's reviews before buying my Timex and as in all things in life, everyone has their opinion. One of the things I found preposterous were the comments about the band. It's designed to be secure on your wrist. The fact that the small loop kind of "locks" in the strap is a good thing. Some people complained that it was too hard to undo. I do it everyday with one hand and could do so blindfolded. If you can't get the strap undone without breaking a sweat, one handed or two, I would suggest you never leave the house because you are uncoordinated to the point of being dangerous. The large numerals on the face have also been criticized which is also a mystery to me. It simply makes reading the pertinent data easy and fast with no guess work and with a quick look. I also like the fact that it is so light that I'm not even aware of wearing it which is very good in a a sports watch. The ONLY negative I have is that you have to hit the "Stop" button twice when in interval mode and the time you want to stop on corresponds to the interval itself. Not a big deal. I hit the stop button twice in succession. It's a fine product that does what it's supposed to.
- Awesome Watch!

This is a great watch! Large easy-to-read face. Mutiple timers and alarms. Definitely worth it.
- Excellent Watch
     By A30VD25XSKXZ0E on 2006-09-30
I received my Timex T5E231 watch yesterday and I, absolutely, love it. It has a nice style and very easy to set. I will use it for the first time on Monday, Oct. 2, 2006 when I start my running regimen. My goal is to lose 60lbs in 3 months and this watch will help me to achieve that goal by allowing me to train properly.
I can't recommend it enough.
- Very Nice Watch
     By A183PHT2RIH6WU on 2007-04-11
Graduated from the original Ironman Flix- the size and illumination of the numbers work much better- functions are all about the same as the older model but easier to navigate. The only complaint is that the band is a little ornery (some extra notch that secures the band also makes it harder to get off- probably could cut it off) but overall very nice upgrade.
- Nice Watch
     By AR425TU25LENZ on 2007-07-12
I ordered this watch to replace the Timex digital that I had been wearing to work for more than 5 years that suddenly quit. This watch looked to be the closest match. The new watch came very quickly and was easy to set up. I really like the FLIX feature, it lets the back light come on just by flicking your wrist. I have used the timer function and it also was easy to set up and use. If you want a simple to use watch with nice features, this is a good one.
- Timex Ironman Great Watch
     By A8FJA8HKO00XA on 2007-08-06
Timex has improved the FLIX Ironman watch over the previous version. One lap button helps (I always stopped the timer when I tried to do the laps), and the larger numbers help also. The band is better, and the Indiglo numerals are easier to read at night. Nice job.
- Excellent Watch
     By A29W8UUI4UW707 on 2007-03-09
This watch does everything! It has five alarms, a timer, a chronograph, etc. It's also very comfortable. The watch is very durable and I like the quality for the money.
- Excellent Watch
     By A3VFZE88W2WXBY on 2007-08-09
This watch is extremely easy to learn and use. I have never owned a Timex Ironman Triathalon watch before, but I bought one because it had good reviews, and so far I am very impressed. It has a very large display screen witch helps you read the time while running, biking or swimming. I definetly would recommend this watch to anyone.
- Nice Looking, Fast Delivery!
     By A6XDQW4TZZF0I on 2007-09-05
I received the watch very quickly considering that I live in Hawaii.
The watch itself is beautiful without being flashy. It's easy to use, very intuitive.
I wanted a light sport watch that I can wear all day. I wanted a large display and at least 100 M water resistance. I also wanted a countdown timer and forward and reverse setting buttons. This watch has all of these features and it is very comfortable to wear. I haven't had a chance to run with it yet, but I can tell this will make a good running watch. The indiglo feature is very high tech and cool looking. The strap looks nice and it doesn't have that Timex Triathlon symbol that I was never a big fan of (it's on the strap holder very discreetly).
I am very pleased with this purchase!
- Good watch for someone with thick wrists
     By A270DV3KO0SA9O on 2007-09-09
I have a Timex Ironman Traithlon Sleek 50/100 (T54281) that lives up to its name--sleek. My partner needed a new watch, so I ordered this one so we wouldn't have the same watch. When it arrived, I was a bit surprised at how big it is compared to the Sleek 50/100, and when he put it on, it was just too big for him (he's only 5'7" and I'm 6'0"), so I gave him my watch and kept this one. It took me a while to get used to the size of it, but I've grown accustomed to it. Aesthetically, I still like the Sleep 50/100 better, but functionally, I like it as much as I've liked any of my previous Ironman watches.
One thing I noticed about the Sleek watch that I hadn't noticed on previous Ironman watches is that it is very easy to change modes when you bend your hand back like you might when lifting weights. Even though the size surprised me, one reason I ordered it was that I thought its bulkiness and protective protrusions around the mode button might keep it from changing mode when working out. They don't. Wear it while pressing a few pounds, and you will most likely change it from from one mode to another.
I only gave it four stars because the FLIX function requires you to really shake your arm to make the INDIGLO light up. It's easier to just press the INDIGLO button with your other hand--assuming you have one and it is free. :) If money is important to you, I'd recommend the cheaper non-FLIX versions. Otherwise, this watch is a great buy for anyone who likes Ironman watches, wants to save a little money over purchasing one in a sporting goods store, and doesn't mind wildly shaking your arm to invoke the FLIX function.
- A good purchase so far
     By ANDL664IDIQ05 on 2007-09-30
The housing for my original Casio from 25 years ago finally disintegrated and I went out seeking a sport/casual replacement. I love this watch. So far, I've only set the time on the watch and haven't used the timer or alarm features, but after a quick glance at the manual TIME 1 was set and another longer look, TIME 2 was set to another time zone for a vacation to the other coast. The big digits are great, but the thing I like the most is the weight; it's light, comfortable and seems well made. Will I get two and a half decades of use out of this? I dunno, but at this point, it gets 5 stars from me!
- Good watch, but big sized
     By A4WLU3L1L4KCT on 2007-10-24
The display is pronounced and function keys are easily accessible. Indiglo works excellent. The only concern I have is that the watch dial is big, 45mm diameter and 12mm width.
- The perfect sports watch
     By A1S77U1VKGJYKF on 2007-10-26
I have owned the previous model of the watch for over 6 years and it is still my main training watch. The reason is that it is simply the best training watch out there right now. The FLIX system, which allows you to turn on the back light with a flick of the wrist, is invaluable when I am riding a bike or running at night.
The 100 lap memory lends itself perfectly to interval training (say if you are sprinting 100 m, resting for 30 secs and running again). In addition, the watch offers an interval countdown that lets you set multiple countdowns, which can be set to repeat (useful for timed sets, e.g., jump rope for 1 min, rest for 1 min, repeat 5 times). In addition, the watch has dual time and 5 alarms (I mostly use them as birthday reminders). Also, the watch has held up to biking, running, swimming, white water rafting, and the toughest test, two three year old boys tinkering with it :-).
Lastly, the newer version (featured here), has a bigger display than my earlier model. Also, if you are looking to buy a watch to help you train better, the Timex IRONMAN Triathlon Data Link Watch T53722 is be a worthy competitor.
- Keep Your Receipts
     By A3FENQVH8DWBPT on 2008-05-12
Too bad I didn't keep my receipts.
This watch has buttons: recall, indiglo, stop, mode, and start/split.
But the most important button is mode. That's what controls whether you see or adjust your time, chronograph, alarms, etc.
For no apparent reason, my mode key "froze". (Trust me, there was no abuse on my part.) The mode key can normally be pushed, but I would certainly need to be an "ironman" to push this button in so that I can use it.
The reviews for this watch were great, I guess I got the bad one. Just keep your receipts.
- Defective display
     By A2KENDYU6AUHVX on 2008-08-09
Just got this watch and its now back in the box to be driven to the post office for return. The display is defective. The middle horizontal lines for the main display and the hundreds display is missing. In other words 8's look like 0's, 3's look like backward C's etc. OK so its defective, it happens, but what causes me to write the review is I don't see the slight darkening where the horizontal lines should be. I can see in the LCD the circuit traces that make all the lines that do display but no ciruit traces for the missing horizontal lines. Clearly, I could be wrong but this doesn't seem like an instance of a wirebond breaking on my paticular watch, it seems like they printed the LCD wrong. If that's true they might have made thousands with this defect.
- So good, I haven't taken it off yet!
     By A3J8GOFBQJFUXL on 2008-10-09
I've got some pretty nice watches. I have to admit that this Timex Ironman is probably one of my favorites because it has everything I need on the main screen. It has the time, day, date, and is all very large and readable. The indiglo is great, like on other Timex watches. I really like the band...it looks like if it ever had an issue, it could be replaced if necessary. The start/stop button is large and easy to push without having to look around for the button. The 5 alarms will keep you on time. I'm very tough on watches and this one appears to be holding up very well.
Bottom line is that it is a superb watch. You can't go wrong buying this watch!
- Great watch

It is heavy duty, and it is easy to read with big lettering and it will fit people with a large wrist such as mine.

Excellent watch. Large digits for an aging baby boomer. Easy readability with Indiglo. The Flix feature is a bit balky.
- interval timer watch
     By AHOU0ONSKMHTV on 2007-07-27
this watch works well for interval workouts ,easy to program ,large numbers are easy to see even in the dark, great for Galloway type training
- Great running watch
     By A256I4UIQ6XCXL on 2007-09-14
I bought this solely as a running watch, and I've been really pleased so far. It's a little big for my taste to just wear around as a casual timepiece, though I might do so on occasion anyway.
It's apparent this watch was designed for activity. The strap feels solid, and it stays in place on a sweaty wrist. There's a handy strap lock to keep the slider from moving, which is a small but thoughtful detail. I appreciate the large numbers for easy quick glances, and the start/split button is ideally placed for quick access. I also notice the buttons require just enough pressure (and are placed high enough) that you won't activate them by accident.
Having a 100-lap memory may seem like overkill, but it's actually quite useful. You can store individual workouts by date, and you can freely track splits by whatever increment you want over many miles.
The Flix feature is nifty and works as advertised. I've seen the complaints of battery life, so that's my only worry going forward. Regardless, this is a great exercise watch.
- Good Product

So far so good. Came on time, considering I am in Iraq. Works great, no problems.
- Timex Ironman Sports Watch
     By A1MBNT54HTKBPL on 2007-12-18
I've been wearing a Timex Ironman watch for the last 20 years. Each time one wears out, I replace it with another. I've owned G-Shocks, expensive dive watches (Rolex and others) and more. The Ironman is a very versatile and reliable watch. This model incorporates some new features that are a nice improvement over my last one. The new Indiglo system causes the numbers to illuminate, instead of a lighted background with dark numbers. This makes reading it in low light much easier. The new model also has a dual timezone feature that is easily toggled by pushing the large start/split button. It also features 5 different alarm times, a useful feature if you have several critical events throughout the day. As a dive watch it functions perfectly well, although I recommend one of the velcro straps to give you more length to wrap it around a wetsuit and a single strap design will keep your watch on even if you lose one pin. For such an inexpensive item, it's a great piece of gear.
