About Swiss Army Knives
In 1884, Swiss cutler Karl Elsener set up shop in Ibach-Schwyz, installing a waterwheel in Tobelbach Brook to run his grinding and polishing machines. Thus began what would become the international brand name Victorinox, a combination of Victoria, for Elsener's mother, and "inox," or stainless steel. Today, Victorinox produces watches, luggage, clothing, and, famously, Swiss Army Knives. The forerunner of that name dates to 1897, when Elsener patented the Swiss Officer's and Sports Knife he supplied to the Swiss Army. Following World War II, American servicemen and women shopping in PX stores shortened the name to Swiss Army Knife, which lives on in English-speaking countries around the world and has become a metaphor or versatility.

  • GREAT KNIFE AT A GREAT PRICE!

    By A1OC4JC0BZ1DGQ on 2005-09-01
[...]But true to the great brand of Victorinox, this knife is made in Switzerland with the consistent quality Victorinox has produced for over a 100 years. It also comes with a lifetime guarantee against defects. Thanks Victorinox for not letting me down. We need to count on at least one brand to remain consistent with it's quality standards.

  • good knife, but...

    By A20B3CUGHZ45S6 on 2006-11-10
I am pleased with the knife. It has the same blade/tool selection as the super tinker, with one exception, the phillips screwdriver is replaced with a cork screw. However it does not have the "signature" smoothe red plastic housing with a metal "swiss army" insignia. Instead the case is a textured red plastic with a stamped-painted insignia. I miss the phillips screwdriver blade... instead this one has a cork screw. Other than that the knive itself is the usual excellent victoronox swiss army quality. I have carried the "super tinker" for several years and it is like my right hand.

  • Beyond the Basics

    By A1ZBOZXYDZQP32 on 2006-11-03
This version of the fabled Swiss Army knife adds a number of useful tools to the basic portfolio of large blade, can opener, bottle opener and awl. With this substantial (yet still pocketable) knife, we now have an additional small blade (GREAT for opening packages), a small pair of scissors, tiny tweezers, a toothpick (how sanitary!) and a corkscrew (a lifesaver for forgetful picnic-ers). The matte finish red plastic grips offer a secure hold.

While this knife is a bit heavy for everyday toting, it's a welcome companion on a hike. Durable and sturdily constructed, I give it a thumbs up.

  • Good knife, but I still like the original Climber more

    By A3GHSQV7G3AZ9C on 2006-08-25
I like this knife. It's a more affordable version than the original Swiss Army Climber which is one of my favorite knives out there.

All of the tools on this knife are good. The knife is sturdy and sharp. I've gotten good use out of the bottle opener and the scissors. Corkscrew is helpful, as well.

Is it as nice as the original Climber Economy? No. It's got a plastic or nylon handle which makes it lighter but less cool in my opinion. But is it worth $15? Definitely

  • True to say a boyscout is lost without his knife

    By A3DVV6O5B72ZGN on 2007-01-11
This knife was purchased for my better half once his went missing after being in use 20 + years. True to say a boyscout is lost without his pocketknife but, from the moment he wrapped his hand around it it was like a long lost friend. Aside the weight difference he is very happy and I have not found a gift in years so simple thats gives so much pleasure. Thank you

  • Great knife
    By AWKS0YRQQ30IX on 2007-01-11
I have had one since I was 12. Recently lost my at Orlando International Airport (forgot to put it in the checked luggage). This is almost the same as the one I lost. The only thing different is the texture and color of the red part (what would you call that, the handle?). It is rougher and slightly darker than the one that I owned. Still the same great knife.

  • Great Brand
    By A3QG0W6QGTX9MS on 2006-08-21
This is a Brand Name and lives up to it.
    Don't go for the knock-offs they just don't cut-it.

  • very good stuff

I got them for gifts to my friends. They are very pleased to them.

  • mountian ready
    By A2BIN4UU4CUHSF on 2007-05-20
if i need to cut off my arm like the other climber this is the item to use

  • Great knife for the price
    By A3WKJ77PBUCPG on 2008-04-26
For the price, this is a great knife. The blade and tool selection is good. Some may think that the knife is borderline too heavy to carry everyday, but I think it is OK.

The biggest disappointment with this knife for me is that it does not have the finish that I am used to seeing on a Swiss Army knife. Instead of the smooth red plastic with the inlay Swiss Army insignia, this knife's case is a textured red plastic with a stamped insignia. In my opinion, it feels and looks cheaper that what I have come to expect from Victorinox.

Overall, the casing is of little concern to me. What's inside is most important, and this knife offers a lot for the money.

  • The right tool set for me
    By A1CHOKV10NEI8X on 2008-05-04
The Victorinox Climber is a superb tool to carry with you at all times. Scissors, corkscrew, awl, caplifter, and screwdrivers will get used every week, and at least one every day. Small enough to take every place (except the airport), and sturdy enough to rely upon.

Oh yeah, it has a knife blade that will work passably well for a pocketknife's two main functions: food preparation and opening mail (Big blade for making sandwiches, and a small blade so you don't scare the poor little hoplophobes when you open letters).

All this a price that encourages you to use it rather than protect it from use.

  • Nice knife, on the cheap
    By A3N4FFI7YZEWH6 on 2007-12-28
This is a nice knife with the standard Swiss Army quality for much less than you'll usually pay for a Swiss Army knife. One thing to keep in mind is that, as another reviewer pointed out, it has a different finish than the signature smooth finish on most Swiss Army knives. Instead, it has a textured finish with a stamped logo. I kind of like the new finish, though.

  • perfect as usually
    By A39DKVCL7F2I9P on 2008-01-24
what i need is mostly scissors and a corkscrew,
sometimes - long blade and can opener.
    They work perfect.
Nice item to be stolen (which is the truth
    for my previous dozen)

  • great gift
    By A18KKMMLCUY9I8 on 2008-04-29
i like it and i bought a couple of them for my friends hope they like them too

  • Incredible Value for an Every Day Carrier
    By A5OP1Z7RG8T1I on 2008-09-17
Rather than recapitulate what other reviewers have mentioned, I'll emphasize two specific points: one, that this knife, with its small size, sturdy construction, useful toolset, stainless materials, and ridiculously low price point, is an unbelievably good value for an everyday-use tool; and two, that it came with both blades literally razor sharp--shaving sharp. This isn't a knife with soul or character to speak of (for that, go to a Laguiole or an Opinel), but its actual day-to-day use value is off the charts.

  • Very nice product
    By A13V1ZWGVTHU6Y on 2007-10-24
Its a very good product for daily use... Its very sharp, strong and sturdy.. I use it regularly and is best used while I am out for trekking or camping.. Very handy and useful.

  • nice knife, very fast delivery
    By A37ILWYSURUIO2 on 2007-12-24
nice knife, good quality, very fast delivery, except the logo on the handle is a little bit esay to be abrased, anyway as an economic one, I like it.

  • A great gift!
    By A7N48X3MMGC46 on 2008-01-13
Victorinox makes great swiss knives. My humble opinion is that for a knife to balance functionality and practicality (what's the point of having a knife with 150 different functions- you can't carry it comfortably in your pocket, let alone comfortably grip the thing to actually use it), it must have 1 blade, a can opener, a bottle opener, a corkscrew and scissors. The tweezers are a nice thing to have as well. This "Climber II" fits the bill (with a few extras too), and at $13.99, I bought a bunch of them to have on hand for gifts.

  • best combi of tools for a great price
    By A1D6C4EYPOXV9Z on 2008-06-21
nothing beats the versatility of this model since it manage every common day tasks. the matt finish is great for grip

  • great little blade
    By A4S1A2AJ91BLI on 2008-06-28
Great little blade with the most essential features of the classic swiss army knife. fits well in the pocket and is very, very functional

  • Wonderful!
    By A3U2M5P94G4YVA on 2008-07-27
This Knife was very nice. Good for the Camper or Yard Worker. It's nice to carry around anywhere, as most of it's features are almost can be used anywhere!
And thanks to Amazon, it's very cheap and affordable. Nice Knife for for a low price. :)

  • I like it!
    By A1KIQCR95Y0AJN on 2008-07-29
I need a scissor when I went out for picnic last time. So I bought this knife. I found the other tools are also useful for me. I'd like to always keep it with me. But it is a little bit heavy for the pocket, so I usually put in my handbag.

  • A Swiss Army Knife you Need
    By A1D5V40G0I40TC on 2008-09-03
If you are a person who carries his Swiss army knife everywhere, this is the most basic model you should have.
It has all the basic functions you require, from a knife to the cork screw...
I guess the only function you can say is missing is the philips srewdriver.
Comes with the legendary Victorinox quality and workmanship.

  • Swiss Army Climber II
    By ADFCU6I50KQD on 2008-09-30
The knife was a replacement for another I lost. It's the perfect balance of size/weight and functionality, and arrived razor sharp (literally). I don't like the new skin on the climber II as much as the old (matte texture and darker red), but that is my only complaint.

  • A Good, basic knife
    By A1TFRNTICDYUAB on 2008-10-17
I have used this knife many times already. The only downside is that it lacks a Phillips screwdriver.
