  • You'll need a crow bar to take it off your windshield

    By A311VZSGB1OK4M on 2007-04-13
I live in Miami so its obviously very hot down here, i have the round plate which you're supposed to mount the suction cup to instead of the windshield but i was driving another car that day and switched it without it... 3 days later i thought it had grown roots to the windshield, i had to get a knife to pry it off, i still have some rubber stuck to the windshield and ofcourse the mount no longer sticks to anything. so now i have to buy a brand new one. It's funny how garmin knows this happens and no matter where you buy the replacement mount it automatically comes with the charging cable (which is what costs the most from both pieces) ironic huh? yeah right...

  • Permanent NOT Temporary

    By A3JWILUSRM1Q20 on 2007-03-17
Leave it on your windshield for more than two weeks and the only way to take it off is to tear the rubber. Mine does not work at all now. I'm ordering the dash mount.

  • Stick On Forever

    By AH7B67ZQ90RR2 on 2007-03-21
This mount sticks well for a couple of days and has good adjustment angle range. It clips on and off the C Series GPS easily and securly BUT it would not come off my car windscreen after I left it on for about 3 weeks. I had to tear the rubber leaving part of the suction cup stuck to my windshield. Maybe you could pre-coat the suction cup with some kind of releasing grease or something? Don't leave it on!

  • a pain in the neck

    By A3I5JBLQLS2JO9 on 2007-01-03
This is the suction mount that came with my C330 and it probably is too good at sticking on the windshield.

I had it on my windshield for a month, then I tried taking it off and I just couldn't for the life of me! I ended up ripping apart the rubber and now have a nice imprint on my windshield, and of course the mount no longer sticks as good as it did before.

If you're planning on putting this mount on one place for the rest of its life then this mount is great. Otherwise remember to take it off from time to time.

I am ordering the dash mount now.

  • Better off with the dash mount

    By A4FSTKBT7B361 on 2007-05-19
as your reading these... please pay close attention to all the people who are telling you to NOT keep the suction cup mount on at all times.... I live in Tx & yes, it's hot... I only left it on for the weekend when we went out of town... BIG mistake... I now have an icky black plastic circle stuck on the windsghield... I didn't think it would happen so fast but tht rubber melts quick... the GPS ROCKS but they need to come up with a better mount... I think I'll be buying the dash one instead.. it's cheaper & looks to be the better option

  • Garmin Replaced Mine For Free
    By A1LWO9GD64MQP7 on 2008-03-20
I had the same problem that everyone else had....rubber sticking to the windshield of my car. Left with a piece of broken junk that wouldn't stick anymore, I went to Garmin's website today and called their 800 number. They are sending me out a brand new suction-cup device for FREE. So if you have one that is trashed, I recommend giving them a call. Apparently, they may have improved the old one. This saved me $30+. Give it a try. I wish you well.

  • Perfect solution

Perfect solution if you want to mount the GPS somewhere other than the windshield.

  • Just exactly what I needed
    By AOZ81M20OXY7Y on 2007-05-13
According to my wife, my granddaughter played with the 12 volt wire on the original adapter until it became frayed and unreliable. The 330c it came with only worked part time as it was getting electicity only part time. The new adapter fit the GPS perfectly, and worked as well as the original when new. And it was a whole lot cheaper than the price for the adapter from Garmin.

  • Sticky issues
    By A28JPX571CHOD1 on 2007-10-15
I left this unit in the car for a few days, but unlike most of the reviews here, I had the opposite reaction. In the summer heat, the arm fell off, and now, it wont stay on. I was driving to Boston from NY this weekend, and it stayed on most of the ride, but as soon as I got off the exit, and needed it to navigate me through the streets, it falls. The dash seems like a better idea.

Before the heat issue, the mount was terrific. I loved the angles and it was easy to readjust, so you could place it just right. If you are going to go with this unit, take it off if you are not in the car with it.

  • Great product!
    By A515GUDXQ67CC on 2008-06-09
Purchased to replace an original Garmin mount that was stolen. This unit works exactly like it is supposed to. It sticks to the windshield very strongly, adjusts sufficiently to allow a good view, and is just an all around good product. No complaints whatsoever. Also, I live in Yuma, and even though it gets VERY hot here I haven't experienced the "suction cup welding itself to the windshield" that others have run into. Then again, I moisten the suction cup before sticking it, and I do not use this unit for driving around town, only when I travel, so it only stays stuck to the windshield for a day or two at a time. For theft deterrent reasons, you should be taking it down anyway, to make your vehicle less of a target. You would THINK that thieves would not steal just an empty mount, but in my case I found out the hard way that they WILL steal ANYTHING that is not bolted down, valuable or not. Even if it is just the mount with no GPS, it may make thieves think the GPS is hidden somewhere in the car. Take your GPS with you when you leave, and take the "steal me" mount out of the window.

Shipped and received quickly. A real plus not having to remove and install the mount from car to car.

  • Comes off just fine for me.
    By A1VEY15VEWXMMJ on 2007-11-21
I have the version of this mount that originally came w/ my StreetPilot and unless this one is different- mine's always come off very easily. I leave it on pretty much all the time and actually have the opposite problem of the earlier posters- I find that it falls off every month or so and I have to clean it off and re-stick it. I live in Colorado though- so maybe it's just the extreme heat that cause the problems?

    By A334J7T82648VP on 2007-12-07
Very happy with my purchase. After reading the other reviews I make sure to not leave it on the windshield of my car overnight. So far I have had no trouble with it sticking to my windshield.

  • Garmin Street Pilot Parts
    By A3UVSMTXWCKDE0 on 2008-01-14
All that I needed was a replacement 12-volt adapter, but I was forced to buy a suction mount as well.
Given the distorted prices of such items, it's unethical to force me to buy two parts when I only need one!!!

  • Recent order from Amazon
    By A3B6C3R716HG46 on 2008-01-22
I recently ordered a Garmin suction mount replacement and thought it would be days before receiving it being that it was during the holidays. I was amazed that I received it as soon as I did-thinking it was a Christmas present. Well-it was in a way. Thank you so much for your prompt and speedy response to something that may have been small to someone else but made a huge difference to me!
    Thanks again,

Garmin Vehicle Suction Mount with 12-Volt Adapter for StreetPilot C Series (010-10609-00)
So easy to place the order, arrived sooner than I expected. The adaptor seemed new not used. It cost me about 25 dollars less than it would have if I purchased it through the Garmin manufacturer.

  • Great, just what I wanted
    By A10YGJ79PUAHVF on 2008-06-19
Garmin's website is too frustrating to use to order this simple part. This is the way to go. I have a suggestion. My old one is OK except for the rubber disk that adheres to the windshield. It is pitted due to UV damage and stress when removing it from a windshield. It also looks like it could be replaced. How about offering just the disk (at a much lower cost)?

I bought this mount to replace the original one that came with the GPS unit. This unit works great and is better then the original one.

  • Better than nothing
    By A1J0KJHHTA9QKE on 2008-09-15
Good thing it came free with my StreetPilot because it's sure not worth much. It's bulky and inconvenient because the cord hands down over the dash in the way and it blocks your view when it is attached to the windshield. It's better than nothing, but not by much.

  • Not The Best Solution
    By A1ODOGXEYECQQ8 on 2008-09-25
You have 2 options to set up your Garmin GPS with this suction mount. Either by directly mounting it on the windshield or on top of your dash. Putting it on top of your dash requires an extra accessory. A round black plastic with an adhesive at the back that you stick to the dash. Then, opposite the adhesive is a shiny surface side where you put the suction mount. We have tried both ways and either way the GPS fell or slid off from the dashboard. It took months the first time before it happened, but once it does, the suction is not as strong as before and it will fall again. It could be a little frightening when it happens while you are driving. You might get the tendency to grab it once it fall and lose concentration on the road.
The rubber suction also leaves a black circle on your windshield when you take it off.

A much better solution is also a product by Garmin. The portable friction dashboard mount. This is very useful especially if you have multiple cars. It makes it a lot easier to transfer your GPS from one car to the other.
