A Dentist Reviews This Product By ABLOQZIL42W7I on 2005-08-24
I am a dentist who recommends Crest White Strips to my patients because they do work to whiten teeth. However, they have to be used correctly and I recommend that you follow the directions exactly as specified inside the box.
1. First brush your teeth to remove the layer of plaque. Your teeth have pores and the pores need to be open for the chemical to penetrate.
2. Use the strips twice per day for maximum efectiveness as stated on the box. The inner part of the strip has a chemical called carbamide peroxide (a 10% form of hydrogen peroxide; in-office dental whitening uses a 15-30% version of the same chemical) that causes the stains inside your teeth to be oxidized and turn white. Applying the strips has a small learning curve as you will probably bend or fold a couple of them before you get the technique down.
2. Leave the strips on for 30 minutes at a time. After thirty minutes your saliva has probably diluted the peroxide to the extent that it is no longer effective. You can reapply a new strip immediately if you chose, for the treatment requires one hour of treatment time per day to work. It does not matter if you do this in one continuous 60-minute period or two 30-minute periods. Do this for two weeks and your teeth will get whiter.
Disadvantages
1. The chemical can and probably will "burn" your gums. If you notice a burning sensation when you use the product, it is the chemical oxidizing (or burning) your gums. Depending on how severe the burning is, it may cause you to want to stop the treatment. It is OK to stop the treatment for a day or two to let the gums heal. Once they are normal again, resume treatment with the White Strips. Try to not ge the strip on your gums.
2. Your teeth may become senstiive during the two-week treatment time. Try to tolerate the sensitivity if it is mild, but if more severe, take a day or two off to let the teeth settle down and then pick up where you left off. You may notice much more sensitivity to cold water, ice cream, etc. The peroxide causes an inflamation of the inner pulp, or nerve center of the tooth and makes the teeth very sensitive to biting or cold drinks or foods. If your teeth become too sensitive, back off on the strips until the sensitivity is gone before resuming bleaching.
3. The strips only cover your front teeth, so only your front teeth will bleach. You may notice the distinct difference between the back (unbleached) teeth and the front (bleached) teeth. Since most people notice the front 6 teeth anyway, this is not a big deal. However, if you have a wide toothy smile, you may want to have a dentist make you a tray that will hold the chemical on the back teeth to whiten them too.
3. The bleaching effect works best on yellow stains. If your stains are due to tetracycline (brownish grey stains in a band on your teeth, your best bet is to have a dentist whiten your teeth as the dentist will use a tray to hold a more concentrated form of the chemical on your teeth for a longer period of time. A dentist may also recommend an ultraviolet light bleaching which is costly, but works the best on these stains.
Crest White Strips work for the vast majority of people. They don't work as well or as fast as a dentist-made custom try bleaching, but over time, you will get a result that will be close to that of a dentist, and you will save money too. In any event, it is a good place to start with bleaching, and if you are not satisfied with the results, you can then see your dentist for a more concentrated form of bleaching.
The "Plus" designation of this product means you get three extra sets of strips compared to the regular box.

Great product but pointless By AIBRTGBN07D6A on 2005-07-02
Crest Whitestrips is an incredible product. It is virtually the same hydrogen peroxide bleaching solution that dentists use. It's amazing how much whiter they make your teeth after only a few days. I've been using them for a couple of years and decided to try the new "Whitestrips Premium PLUS." This product is exactly the same as the regular Whitestrips Premium, except the box it comes in has a window and it comes with 3 extra days of strips. The regular Whitestrips takes 7 days and this takes 10. After 7 days, your teeth are pretty much as white as they're going to get, and I didn't notice much of a difference from the additional 3 days. The "Plus" in the product's name seems to refer more to the much higher cost of this product.
If you're thinking about getting this, just realize that all it is is three more strips, so when you figure out how much you're being charged per strip, you may find you're paying considerably more for these poer strip than the regular Whitestrips Premium.
That being said, the strips are a great product and if you get them, make sure you buy some toothpaste for sensitive teeth because this product WILL make your teeth feel like they're on fire. It's definitely worth it though.
Highly Recommend These! By A2MOD50IHEDH3G on 2006-08-08
These strips have done wonders for my smile. In only 4 days my teeth were amazingly white, so I quit. I'm saving the rest to touch up in 6 months.
Since I can effectively get 2 full treatments from one box I think these are an amazing value. There is really no need to get trays or Bright Smile unless you want it done faster, and want a freakishly unnatural whiteness about your teeth....almost blue looking. ;-)

What the Plus Really Means--18 months vs 12 months By A3TO9GEQEGKFDC on 2007-01-05
Several people complained that they thought getting 3 extra strips for the extra $$ was pointless, or led them to give this product fewer stars. In actuality, the PLUS is because this product whitens your teeth up to 18 months, while the standard Premium product is only efective for 12 months. This is also why you use this one for 10 days rather than 7. You actually are getting 50% longer effectiveness for about 20% extra money. To me, that makes a lot of sense!
- Pain, pain, and more pain
     By A2OSOPQSEAQ3CV on 2005-06-12
I waited for these to go on sale, and when they finally did, I took my $7 off coupon and raced to the store. I had used the original version of these a few years ago, and had remembered getting decent results, so I thought this version would be even better.
Was it? Well I can't say because I was only able to use them twice before the pain got to be so intense that I could not even drink cold water, or eat anything warm. It was awful. The pain does not occur just around the time you're wearing the strip. It occurs all day long. And not to mention that you end up swallowing much of the gel because the strips make you salivate more than normal. So not only are they painful, but they're also a pain to use. I do NOT recommend these. Try the original version (I don't remember having pain from those).
- Well, it whitened...
     By A3O19H5K36MROE on 2006-05-10
I like a couple of things about this product:
1. It really does whiten.
2. It's very convenient (stick 'em on, go about your business)
3. 1 hour a day is pretty good for how well it whitened
Overall, I am glad I bought the product. It whitened, which is what it advertises, and I hardly felt any sensitivity. My only complaint was that after you took the slips off, there was this very goopy stuff (the gel, I know) on the backs of my teeth and I wasn't sure if I should spit it out, or leave it on. I would've preferred more in-depth instructions, also, but then again I tend to read instruction booklets word for word.
- I wish I could give it ZERO stars
     By A4IANJ5O4Z3ZH on 2006-08-18
I used these as directed, and not only did they burn my gums and hurt the nerves in my teeth, they did not really whiten. Instead, they created small white dots on my teeth that look absolutely ridiculous. I now have to go to a dentist to have a professional whitening done to REVERSE the damage done by this product. I am asking crest for my money back. This has been nothing but a PAIN...literally! I guess a few lucky people did have this work for them, but I'd suggest going to a professional instead.
Good luck with this product. I hope it will work better for you than it did for me!
- A far better alternative is available.
     By A16Q2LIPFL2ARW on 2006-02-18
When I used these strips, I found that they were too flimsy, and therefore tended to bend back over themselves, making them difficult to apply. After they were applied to the teeth, they did not always stay in place and tended to slide around. Also, it is inconvenient to have to remove the strips, when they have done their work. For these reasons, I do not consider them to be the best alternative. A much better alternative is the dissolving whitening strips manufactured and distributed by CVS Pharmacy, Inc. These strips are less flimsy/ more firm and therefore don't stick onto themselves, they adhere to your teeth far better; AND they dissolve completely in about 5-7 minutes, leaving no messy residue or plastic film to have to discard. On size strip (larger than Crest's) fits both upper and lower teeth. The active ingredients are the same as Crest, but the cost is about half the cost of Crest. Superior to Crest in every way.
- Did the Job
     By A2N1OSYUNBP3VU on 2007-01-29
I used this product at the suggestion of my dental hygienist prior to having some dental veneers replaced. I read the reviews and I had some misgivings about using an over-the-counter product but it was fine.
The Results: I am pleased with the results. The strips lightened my teeth noticably. I do not have "chiclet" teeth, that blue white luminous shade that, frankly, looks artificial but my teeth are cleaner and whiter than before. I had my new veneers prepped today and the dentist commented that I had lightened my teeth, that they looked very nice and that the product worked well for me.
The Process: I found the product fairly easy to use after a couple of applications. There is a technique but it was easy enough to get the hang of it. The gel adhered well to the surface of the tooth and I always had a lot of gel left on my teeth when I removed the strip. From about day three to six, I found my gums and teeth a bit sensitive but I persisted and the sensation went away by the end of the ten days. I found that my lips dried out while I used the strips and it helped to apply lip balm before and after using the strips.
Some Tips: Wash your hands when you finish applying the strips so that you don't get white patches on your fingers. Rinse your mouth when you finish to reduce gum sensitivity. Find a couple of times during the day when you have enough time to concentrate on how you apply the strips. It's a small thing but I think it makes a difference to apply them well. As I said, you may want to apply something to your lips to keep them from drying out. You can anticipate some sensitivity. It was not a huge issue for me but I can see it might be for some.
The directions say that Crest Strips will not lighten dental work. It actually did lighten my old veneers a bit. However, if you have veneers that you are not planning to replace, you might not like the two-toned effect you get. So if you have cosmetic dental work, I'd suggest you ask your dentist before you try this product.
- Decent Whitener
     By A23HCR977WY1YN on 2006-06-25
I have been using these off and on for almost a year. Through perodic use, I have been able to keep my teeth fairly white. The down side is the discomfort after several consecutive uses. My gums have gotten burned by the hydrogen peroxide more than once. I recommend to anyone who wishes to use this whitener to use it every other day. Before I apply the whitening strips, I brush and floss thoroughly. The number one thing to do to maintain white teeth after you have used this product is to brush and floss daily(something everyone should do, but I know the majority of people do not).
- Works, but a bit of a pain!
     By A23SH5GLNJTAP2 on 2005-08-21
Since I drink a lot of tea (hot and iced), my teeth were discolored. I had used Crest Whitestrips about 2 years ago, and they worked well. I thought I would try Whitestrips Premium Plus for a few more bucks. They did work really well, my teeth are whiter after using them. I agree with the reviewers that complain about how small the strips are, and the tendency of the lower strip, especially, to become dislodged by excess saliva. I found myself constantly in the mirror, rearranging the lower strip. The upper one rarely moved. I believe Crest needs to do some tweaking on that lower strip! But despite all the problems I had keeping the lower strip in place, my teeth look a lot better than before, so my goal was achieved!
- Wow.....Powerfull!!!!!
     By A2PBP5TZ8VE08C on 2005-09-15
I've always had really bad yellow teeth (almost brown) and then I tried the original whitestrips and a bunch of other kinds of things....which didn't work too well (there was only a bit of improvement). But then I tried these....and BAM! 2 days now, and my teeth are almost completely white. If you can handle the side effects these are good. They're hard to keep on your teeth, in some cases it may be exteremly painful (like getting your teeth drilled) but I only had that happen with one tooth and these things make you drool like crazy!!!!! If you can handle that, these things will turn even the most disgusting looking teeth white.
- Amazing!!!
     By on 2005-11-09
I recently got my braces off and i got the most amazing results after using whitestrips. Everybody should try them!!!
- Good results, hurts teeth
     By A1BL0TCMKOA7NR on 2005-08-16
his product made my teeth so sensitive that i could not eat after a few applications. Results did in fact show, but i had to discontinue after a few days
- It works....with a cost to your teeth and gums
     By A37XY8P3RGU8VF on 2006-02-24
If the only thing you want to know is whether or not this product whitens your teeth, it does. However, there are some caveats:
1) It works only on yellow stains
2) May require two units (ie two packages) for heavily stained teeth
3) The hydrogen peroxide (the stuff that whitens your teeth) can burn your gums (it did for me). If this happens to you, stop immediately and let your gums heal. Give it a few days and then reapply. If it still burns, discontinue the product. Also, this product is not for people with sensitive teeth and it inflammes the inner nerves of your teeth.
ALternative, try the Crest Night Effects. You get to control what teeth gets whitened and it doesn't burn your gums or teeth.
- No pain for me, great whites are back!
     By A1BGHCKDD8FKPC on 2006-03-26
I bought this because the coffee teeth just made my teeth look yellow. I remember seeing a commercial and was thinking I should give these a try. I had no pain really, maybe a little tiny bit after the second use, it wasn't burning, and was easy for me to forget I have these on my teeth. The only problem is it doesn't reach all my teeth 2 on the top left, and two on the bottom left are normal color an you can see how much they have helped me out. I love the white smile! Good buy for a product that will make you look like you are worth more!
- GoSmile VS crest white strips
     By A3M9P59EWW3GSD on 2006-04-01
I used to think Crest white strips were equal to GoSmile, until I tried the new ADVANCED GoSmile B1. Crest can give up to 5 shades whiter, only gave me about three, but the new Gosmile that halle berry uses, gives you up to 10 shades whiter. My teeth are sooooo white now that everyone wants some. It's cheapest at www.new-raves.com
- So far..
     By A2FEMIMCH2YUAO on 2007-04-12
I'm only on day two, but my teeth seem noticably whiter, which is a shock, because my teeth are relatively white to start and it's hard to find a product that makes any difference at all. It was very painful to apply them today, the peroxide burned my gums very much to the point where they turned white near my teeth. I toughed it out though, and the pain wore down after a few minutes. I did have problems all day though, it was a constant pain in my upper and lower teeth, I'm really hoping it's just temporarily sensativity. I also recommend applying lipbalm before using, because your teeth will probably get chapped. Let's hope the pain dies down, because they seem to be working!
- Yuck and Ouch
     By A18A2W9WE275WR on 2007-04-18
I am 19. I have used reg. crest white strips, and they worked fine. i figured, "hey, premium must be better right?" WRONG!
within the first 15 minutes, your gums hurt. it lasts for two days , where your mouth is sensitive and hurts to eat. no way will i ever use all 40 strips.
- These Worked Great!
     By A2ZXBFBA7EKYNR on 2007-04-30
I started using these a few months ago and yes, you definately experience sensitivity of your teeth as with any new cleaning or bleaching. To avoid any pain or discomfort of your gums make sure the strip starts at the top of your teeth, just where it meets the gum. Keeping the strips away from your gums makes a huge difference in the pain department. Also for your teeth, make sure to use a sensitivity toothpaste like Sensodyne or Crest Sensitivity.
I also didn't use the strips as often as recommended. I only used them once a day and I still noticed dramatic results. I have to say the results were more apparent at the begining of this process than when I got to the end. All in all I think this is a great product and people shouldn't complain whether they spent $20 or $40. It still is a heck of a lot cheaper than Zoom whitening which costs $400 and you still get the same results. Try these!
- painfully good
     By AT3X4WP5ZR9GP on 2006-02-14
Well I've seen results right the second day....my gums burn right when i put it.....and my teeth can hurt like crazy.....after i wash it away.....i have only one sensitivee tooth that bugs me all the time...im fine with the rest....no pain lingers..i can tolerate it..a hint to eliminate saliva....get a little cotton ball or piece of tissue and put it under your tongue after putting the strips...this helps BIG TIME......if u feel the cotton became soaked just replace it....it does not cause me any discomfort at all and supriingly i did not experience what most people have said about the strips being hard to put on and that they slip....mine really dont....they stick like if they were super glued...in fact i have a hard time taking them off i have to scrape them off with a tooth brush....anyway im still not done with the treatment so my rating is for what i see so far...second day......good luck with everyone
- good but not great
     By A1KCCFHSYI56ZL on 2006-03-03
I actually see whiter upper teeth but lower teeth didn't improve much, the reason it is gettin 4 stars is because it was painful on the 3 and 4th day of applying the strips and after the 10 days lower teeth looked yellow and top teeth looked lighter.
- Crest White Strips Rock!
     By A1ZRGXMDKG2CH3 on 2007-02-16
I was skeptical about how they say you will see results within 3 days. I saw results after the first day! I am so happy with my teeth and no longer self conscious about their appearance! I would definitely recommend these to anyone wanting to avoid the expensive process of going to the dentist to get your teeth whitened!
- Not as thorough as trays, but definitely work!
     By AP5PYTENE7MVC on 2007-07-26
I'm pleased with the whitening from this product. I own whitening trays, but wanted to try this product and avoid a trip to the dentist to buy their gel. While trays work a bit faster since the gel can conform to each tooth (and I think the peroxide concentration is higher), Crest Whitestrips work well if you don't mind taking a little longer to get the result you want. With both trays and this product, I have to whiten every other day because I have extremely sensitive teeth. Again, no big deal if you aren't in a huge hurry to get a final result. I found that I can't do normal activity when I whiten, so I apply the strips, then lay in bed and watch TV or read. I lay back slightly so I can swallow saliva and not dislodge the strips. I only do one 30 minute treatment every other day, and it's working fine. Just use the strips according to your own comfort level and enjoy the whitening!
- Wonderful
     By AED4DA8YCVE1B on 2007-04-19
I was very unsure about buying these, because I felt like the whole idea was just too simple. They worked wonders though.
My two front teeth have always been very white, whereas all the teeth on the sides were quite stained. Just the fact that my two front teeth were whiter made the stains so much more noticeable.
So, I bought theses and cut the strips so that I could use them on my side teeth only, and it only took around five days for the teeth on the side to match my front teeth. It was very, very easy, and gave such great results.
Be warned though, this product does make your teeth very sensitive and it can be painful. It says on the box that you can do both half hour sessions back to back, but I think it's better to give your teeth a bit of a break. If you haven't noticed though, I still put five stars. I just think that the bit of sensitivity you'll have to endure is so worth the results.
- It works but ouch!
     By A3RPUSDTHYCCOB on 2007-12-05
My husband and I each bought a box of this before our wedding. I read the reviews on here so I knew it had the possibility of hurting but I figured that everyone's different and it might not hurt me. I used it for probably 2 or 3 days before the pain started. It quickly intensified. At its worst the pain was excruciating for the half hour that these were on my teeth and then my teeth continued to hurt and were extremely sensitive. On a plus side though they worked. I could not finish using them. I think I did 6 days or so before I couldn't take it anymore. Still even though I did not use all the strips there was a noticeable difference in my teeth. If I use them again I'll probably do every other day or every three days rather than follow the directions. Also, keep in mind that they may not hurt if you use them. My husband experienced less pain but it was still bad enough that he didn't finish using them either. They definitely work though so as they say, "no pain, no gain!"
- Wow these actually work, unlike the ones I used years ago!
     By A2EJIPSUG5J6NH on 2008-01-03
I've always wanted whiter teeth like when I was a child. I actually tried the Crest Whitestrips years ago when they first came out and had no results. A couple weeks ago I was just browsing Amazon and came across these. I decided to take a chance on them since they are the "Premium Plus" ones.
I must say that these actually work. I'm am satisfied with the results that I've gotten. My teeth aren't super white by any means, but they have gotten at least 2-3 shades whiter. As for the reviews saying that this product makes your teeth sensitive, that hasn't happened to me in my complete 10 days of use.
I would definitely recommend this product for those looking to get a whiter smile.
- They are amazing
     By A3FXX7OF9OUTBA on 2008-01-28
I was quite skeptical, but I used them 2x a day for just one week before a family wedding and the results were excellent. I strongly recommend the PREMIUM PLUS over the regular whitestrips and without a doubt over other brands like Rembrandt, etc.
- Crest Whitestrips
     By ADF6OWHSBH3NO on 2008-04-06
the whitestrips worked wonderfully. i have sensitive teeth so to avoid the possibility of more sensitivity with the whitestrips i applied the strips once a day instead of twice and i did not experience any sensitivity...and my teeth are so much whiter! i highly recommend these!
