Be careful of your drive model By A3SF2N0BJF0YJS on 2005-09-27
A lot of people don't realize that a particular brand/model of blank dvd must have its configuration programmed into the burner's firmware. This is why, for example, a lot of standalone dvd burners need to use relatively old 4x blanks or you get errors.
Well this is a relatively new 16x brand/model media. I tried it on my NEC 1300A flashed to the latest firmware (tried 1.08 and 1.0C), and not a one of these will work at all. Nero spits them out. Wish I had known ahead of time.
I took advantage of cheap prices and picked up a new NEC 3540A and sure enough, it burns these media at 16x right out of the box, and they play fine on my cheap old Toshiba dvd player.
In other words: this media is new and probably will only work on newer model dvd burners, and recent models flashed to the latest firmware, and many not at all.
This is not to say these won't work in your drive. But it ought to be a very recent model drive, and it might be worth researching first.
Works great with a PROPER burner By A1JUFEK4258SE3 on 2005-11-10
I have a 16x NEC-3540a. Burns fine at 16x. They should be reliable also considering the 2 year old 4x Memorex DVDRs I have still work perfectly. Though those are 4x, but I'll see. For those with problems, upgrade... to a good burner (Plextor, NEC, etc.) Burners are too cheap now to own anything below a 16x.
so far so good By A3OJYC41U3DFNI on 2007-07-03
I haven't had any problems so far and much cheaper to buy here than at walmart
fine DVD-R discs with just a note or two about them... By A2R6RA8FRBS608 on 2007-10-24
Memorex makes a very reliable blank DVD-R that can handle up to 4.7 GB of data. Moreover, these blank DVD-Rs are capable of recording data at speeds up to 16x. The data I record onto these lasts for years, proving the test of time. I have used these as data discs, discs to record video and discs to record video. Great!
The DVD-R discs are compact and easy to store. While the discs are still blank, store them in the circular case on the spindle that they came in. After your burn data onto them, I would recommend storing them in slim jewel cases instead of paper sleeves. It's just better protection for your DVD-Rs that have data stored on them. Don't store these discs, burnt or blank, in rooms that become very hot; this causes damage to any brand of this type of disc and you could lose data over time.
There are two caveats that many other people note about any brand of this product: when you are burning the data onto the blank disc, don't be surprised if you see that the data is burning at a rate slower than 16x. This can happen if your burner doesn't have the capacity to burn faster, or it may be a quirk. I am not a professional so I cannot be certain of precisely what causes this phenomenon; but I assure you that the extra minute or two (tops) that you wait to get your DVD-R completed is worth the wait. In addition, DON'T write on these using Sharpie ink pens. The ink can seep through the top coating of the DVD-R disc and slowly but surely compromise your data--and you wouldn't want that, now would you? If you need to label the discs, label its' jewel case using a post-it note. At least that's what I do.
Overall, Memorex blank DVD-R discs store data reliably over the years and I believe that an extra minute to burn the data onto the blank disc is well worth it in the event that it doesn't actually burn at 16x.
Use them in good health!
a home DVD recorder's review By A1BIUVIVA1FVIT on 2005-12-24
i ordered these 2 december '05, and use them with my panasonic DMR-E80H component DVD recorder to burn TV shows i record. my recorder is two years old, and these discs have worked fine in it without upgrading the firmware. i have had good luck with memorex media for this use for as long as i've owned my recorder; each spindle usually has a couple of duds in it, but for the price it's still a good deal.
- Packaged Terribly
     By A25JAN19KMOS2R on 2007-06-13
No question Amozon.com has these dvd's for the cheapest price around. But if you plan to buy 300 or more be ready to recieve some broken dvd's and cases. the price is the only reason i buy them from amazon.com they really need to do a better job at packaging these disc for shipment.
- Consistent quality
     By A2TNVF9KT2B0N6 on 2006-03-26
Memorex DVD-Rs have given me nearly flawless quality since I started using them two years ago. They copy at their rated speed, and never have a bad burn. Consistent quality at a reasonable price.
- DO NOT BUY
     By A3ILMDEGLE447B on 2005-12-14
These do not work with every DVD burner. So far these are the only discs that do not work with my burner. I contacted Memorex's Technicle support, and they do not care.
DO NOT BUY
- Very Happy with this Media
     By A1S0R0J7ZBWE3Y on 2006-03-23
I have gone through more than one 100 pack of these DVD-Rs, and have not yet ended up burning a coaster to put my coffee on. Also, one thing I really like about these DVDs is they have a very nice configuration of lines on them to write on - this actually is a pretty important design feature.
But of course the most important thing is that the media copies data accurately and lasts long. So far, I've been completely satisfied with the quality of my burned DVDs and, while it hasn't been long enough to really tell, none have worn out yet.
So either go for these or the Verbatims - but between them, these at least look cooler :)
- Works As Expected
     By AE38ZUW1W57E0 on 2006-05-15
I've been burning a lot of home movies lately and getting ready to reorder. Been using the Memorex DVD -R disks with no problem. Only one coaster, and that was my fault, not the disk's fault. Using a Lite-On DVD RW and it works just fine with these Memorex disks. Have not tried any other DVD -R disks, but have used several brands for CD-R burning.
- Good Stuff
     By A1EZDT5Q4S96LV on 2007-05-31
I have used two spindles of this Memorex 16X and have not had a single coaster (except the one my my daughter made with her markers and glue)
- ok
     By A3GZQJZLSMETLI on 2007-06-08
had some problems with playback after copying this and that but over all it was ok
- 16 = 4
     By A2ORBJJD8FHL0U on 2005-10-14
I have a 16x dvd burner which came with my Gateway computer purchased earlier this year (February 2005). When it comes to finding media, there aren't a lot of 16x dvd-r's out there to buy. I've found a few, which all worked swimmingly. I spotted this new Memorex version of 16x dvd-r's at Best Buy a couple of weeks ago. After I got them home, I found out they only burn at a measly 4x... not even 8x... on my 16x burner.
I'll try to find a firmware update to see if that helps. But come on, my Compu is less than a year old. Media should be more compatible than that. In ye olden days, when I bought cassettes, I didn't have to worry whether I had the very latest version cassette recorder to get them to work.
Compatibility issues should be listed on the media, especially on items which are being purchased in bulk. They're sold as dvd-r's, not as "might be a dvd-r / might be your new set of coasters / a surprise in every box". If a firmware upgrade doesn't work, I'll try taking these back to the store.
- Wow, a movie in just a few minutes...
     By A3HO36YFL6W8EG on 2005-12-21
Of course I had to upgrade the firmware on my DVD-ROM as well as upgrade the software I was using. But that only took a few minutes. All you need to do is google your DVD-ROM model for firmware updates. Then make sure the software you use to burn supports 16X. When my friends give me their 2.4X disks, I just chuck 'em and replace them with 16X. If you find yourself in a hurry to burn something fast, I recommend these. At 35 cents a piece, it's worth it (This 100pk was on sale for $34.99 right before Christmas 2005).
- works at 2x
     By A19GY7EPP946Z4 on 2006-01-17
my dvd burner burns at 4x, but with these dvd-r it burns at 2x when it boost a speed of 16x
- Good but not great
     By A3PF0NUQ0ZP4F9 on 2006-02-28
I have not used these dvd's for data storage so my opinion is limited to home movies. Their have been no coasters, nor have I had any problems viewing these movies on my computer which burned them. However, when viewed on my older generation Sony dvd player there is occasional pixelation or green blocks. I have not been able to test the discs on any newer player so I hope its just me.
- AWESOME PRODUCT
     By AU4FNAPJNUGTR on 2006-07-26
I've been using Memorex DVD-R for almost a year now and I should say this product is awesome! I never had a bad DVD, unlike other blank DVD which I usually get error during write or sometimes won't play on my Toshiba player. I have an HP DVD writer. It cost a little more compared to other brands but since I'm not wasting any of it due to bad write, it actually ended being cheaper. And with this price from Amazon...it makes it even better.
I am completely satisfied with this product!
- great reliable media
     By AJZO9SDYWP6VU on 2006-11-06
works fine with the nec burner i have. no problems or bad burns.
- Poor quality disks
     By A1S16FOWNZB49R on 2007-01-04
There were more bad disks with this package than I ever had before. Don't buy them, buy better quality disks.
- Absolute Garbage
     By A1QEARF9574PRI on 2007-02-20
My HP Pavilion a1210n allegedly has an HP DVD Writer 740b, and I've updated it with the latest firmware, which allegedly recognizes all sorts of 16 speed media.
Despite this, the drive is unable to even recognize these Memorex 16x DVD-R discs. I hope the store where I bought these will take them back, because they are absolutely worthless to me.
- so far so good
     By ACW8JLFQMD0OA on 2007-05-10
So far so good. All have played fine----I have only played about 10 though. You should be hip to what kind of dvd speed your dvd player likes to play (8x, 16x. My old crappy dvd player that plays practically nothing still plays these dvd's so that's a really good sign. I bought these because they were on sale and I got free shipping, otherwise, I probably would have went wioth something cheaper, Verbatim dvd are good too. If you see a good deal---memorex are good, so feel free to buy. Most reviews for memorex dvd's are good too.
- Work great with Mac Superdrive
     By AWEYAJCNOJV48 on 2007-05-22
I've burnt about 70 of these on my Apple 8x DL SuperDrive. Apple iMac Desktop with 20" Display MA589LL/A (2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 1 GB RAM, 250 GB Hard Drive, SuperDrive)
Maybe 1 coaster, might have been my copy.
- This is high quality blank DVD
     By AH2X19Q760OBT on 2007-09-19
I am not going to go into detail on what these are used for but these are great and do the job well. I have not had a bad one in the group and have been please with memorex blank media in general. This was a great deal.

- Simply the bomb for backups
     By A2ADCF3US186DC on 2006-12-16
Ok, I have an old Pioneer DVR-105 burner that doesn't even burn DVD+Rs, so you people that have those duel layer burners may want to tune out, but these are what I have been using for years to backup important data. They cost a little more than other DVD-Rs but they are worth it for archiving data. I have about a 150 of these lying around holding important files and I never once in 3+ years have had a problem with aging. Media such as Fuji, Optiplex, or even the Sony brands don't age as well as these do.
I don't normally back-up moves with these since I can get other brands are cheaper, but for backing up games, your My Documents, pictures, and you name it; you cannot find a better brand than this for Pioneer recorders.
