    • Really cool gizmo

      By A176AAACGYL2HJ on 2006-03-28

I love, love, love, this light.Take my word for it buy this and you will not regret it.I bought this becuase,i'm going backpacking across europe this summer.I took out my gear for a test run this weekend and fell in love with this light. The light really lit up my tent and is easy use.You can put it anywhere in tent or anywhere you need an extra light. This light runs off 4 AA batteries and takes up little space in your bag.

    • Good light - not so bright

      By A1HWTBF4Q56UU9 on 2006-08-20
This is a pretty good tent light and reasonably priced.
Pros: It's small and easy to pack. It safely attaches to the tent without causing and problems. It's easy to use. It works. Flexible.
Cons: The light it gives is a bit dim. Many battery based lanterns give off much more light (although not as flexible in positioning). It's difficult to position with just one person because you have to have the magnet outside the tent and the light inside, so unless you can reach to the point outside where you want it, then you need to have someone else hold the magnet in place while you place the light inside the tent. This isn't much of a problem though.

Overall I gave it 4 stars because it works and it's easy to use and low priced. It could use a brighter light, but otherwise is pretty good.

    • A Nice Piece of Kit, Somewhat Bulky

      By A38VQ2TIPPBKNN on 2007-08-10
This is a really nice piece of camping kit, as it "clips" with the magnet to any part of your tent in seconds. (It's got a pretty strong magnet bar, which goes on the outside of your tent, and the metal bracket of the light anchors it on the inside.) At first I wondered if the tight contact of the light would cause the tent to leak, and so far the answer has been a very clear and dry no.

The light is incandescent, inside a more or less traditional sealed bulb. I have had no problem with the light or bulb in the 2+ years I've owned this light. The lens diffuses the light nicely, so if you put this light at the crown of your tent, you will have light throughout.

My only problem with this unit is that it's kind of big and bulky. It's not that heavy, even with the four AA batteries installed, but it's kind of large. In a camping world in which we've got wind-up LED systems and increasingly smaller lights which provide more and more light, I would think that an up-tech'd version of this light could be smaller and throw out more light. If you're doing backwoods trekking where every ounce counts, this is probably not the solution you need. But if you're doing family camping, car camping, or going to camps that have existing tents (summer camps, scout camps), then this is a really fantastic piece of gear.

      Update, 24 July 08
Now about a year on, here are additional comments on this piece:

It continues to function just fine, but I have one complaint. I do not store this unit with batteries in it, so each time I go camping I open the case to install and then later remove the batteries.

(The case opens by way of gently pinching the two sides together at the lamp's waist, between the on/off switch and the lower magnetic housing. There are no locks, springs or mechanical latches; the two parts of the lamp are kept together only by the flex of the upper lamp housing itself.)

After a year of easy and careful use the upper plastic housing around the pinch points has started to crack. The unit still works just fine (I just got back from a week in the woods), but it's only a matter of time now until the housing splits or a large chunk of the plastic comes off, preventing the unit from coming together and thereby ruining it.

    • The right light for a nice night

      By A2WXIJTI5PEV9N on 2006-07-11
The Coleman Tent Light is a specialized flashlight that's versatile and lightweight. It has a xenon bulb that's about the brightest bulb available in a flashlight and it only requires 4 AA batteries. The diffuser disperses the light throughout your tent or other area. It attaches safely to your tent without taking up a lot of room nor does it add any heat load to your comfort space.

The bottom line: the Coleman Tent Light is a nice addition to your camping equipment list unless you absolutely must cut to the bare minimum.

    • A for Idea, B for Execution

      By AX6CRRFTE9V10 on 2008-05-27
The Coleman Tent Light is a great idea. This wedge-shaped light is backed with two powerful magnets and a removeable metal mounting plate. Take the mounting plate off, put the light wherever you want to in your tent, put the mounting plate on the outside of your tent behind the light and viola! You now have light, and it easily clicks on and off with one hand, which is important when camping. The magnets are strong enough to mount the light to either horizontal or verticle surfaces. It takes AA batteries and it's easy to get the unit apart to put the batteries in or replace them.

In fact, it's too easy, and that is one of my complaints. The magnets are so poweful that pretty much anytime I take the mounting plate off, the light comes apart, too. I guess it's not that big a deal, but seems to me that it just could have been designed to avoid that. Things that continually fall apart have that "cheap" feel to them, and that's not what I want to feel when I'm in the middle of the woods. I want to have confidence in my gear!

My second "complaint" is that the light is also not that bright. I put this in a four-person tent and it was just a little more dim than I would have preferred. It was certainly bright enough to see and get ready for sleep; this is not going to be a reading lamp, though.

All-all-all, this is not a bad product and I'm happy I have it for the price at which it was sold. I just wonder if there maybe isn't something a little better out there.

    • works as advertised...
      By A204KVEV30UDE2 on 2005-07-29
it is bright enough, runs off 4 AA batteries and has great battery life. I just wish i had done more research first, cuz for a few bucks more you can get one with a 50' range remote control. That was my fault though. But other than that gripe, this light definitely works, and has a VERY powerful magnet. Requires 2 people to mount/remove the light; one outside the tent and one inside.

On a side note, if you are camping with people that like to play pranks, DO NOT mount this light over your head in the tent, because someone outside can pull the magnet off and it will fall on your head which i imagine would be quite painful.

    • good product but not as versatile
      By AQ7EZ0DWXFMFV on 2007-01-14
I bought this tent light for my first camping trip upon positive reviews on Amazon. At the time my choice was between this and a more traditional design lantern. This light is very well-built. But in retrospect, a lantern would have been more useful.

      Pros:
      1. Compact - about the size of a burrito. Much slimmer than most traditional lanterns.
      2. Uses AA batteries. The large battery in most lanterns costs about $10 a pop. This one has slots for four AA batteries, but as the other reviewer noted 2 will work.

      Cons:
      1. Light is quite dim.
      2. In case you are deciding between this one and a more tradtional lantern, consider this: This light is useless outside the tent. Well, it's not meant to be since it's a "tent light". But if plan to cook and eat after it's dark, and you want to pack just one light, get a lantern. I tried putting this light on the table, it simply doesn't light up enough space around it. For this light to be useful, it has to be installed in a higher up position. The chance of you finding a suitable object/surface to attach this light to, outdoor, is almost zero.

    • Could Not Use
      By A2OGK1AN5XI88I on 2007-05-09
After reading other reviews I purchased this to use in our screen tent. However, when I received it, the second thing on the instructions said, Do Not Use On Screens. I returned them for fear that the heavy magnet would tear the screen in the screen room.

    • A great Idea
      By A4N52S2HDHF4Y on 2007-07-05
What a great Idea this is. I just used it on my Camping trip and it worked out great. Before I was using a Flashlight or whatever else that was handy and it was a hassle. Only light up a small Area, hunt for the light, etc. This light uses some AA battery's that pop right in. It's Magnetic. Really Strong and a Metal plate that you remove. Just turn it and pull off. You place the light inside the tent on Top. either after it's put up if it's a small tent, or before it's up, and place the metal plate on the outside. This holds the light up. Then you can put the Final Covering over the top of the tent and your done. Then just push the button on the side to turn it on and off. It will light up the entire tent. It's not that large and doesn't weigh very much, but does a pretty good job and the light should last for quite a while. Mine worked full power for a week of camping. If you have a really large tent, maybe having 2 would be a good Idea. The price is right. 1 was more then good enough for my use.

THE COLEMAM TENT LIGHTS WERE THE BEST THING I GOT FOR THE KIDS TENTS! THEY LOVE THEM!

    • Great Tent Light
      By A2F6DSIGQ6RMZ0 on 2006-08-04
This little light is great for the tent...lights up everything. It says that it runs off 4 AA batteries, but I can take two of the batteries and it still lights up...just as bright. I think that this light is a great buy for camping trips.

    • wonderful little light for camping
      By A2NYOY6H42SORF on 2006-11-10
Nice light for those time there no electric at your site however the light will die after about 12 hours so if extended trip bring extra batterys and yes this unit will work with only 2 batterys at the same ligh out put.
only reason I would not give it 5 stars is design while it gives decent light it could of been done with led light for same output and better battery life.
but for the price there none better

    • Great tent light
      By A3F8ZCWXWHFM0O on 2007-04-08
We purchased two of these lights for our two-room cabin tent. We placed one in a corner of each side of the tent. They provided enough light to see by at night and were easy to take on and take off. Be sure to keep your fingers out of the way when placing the metal back against the magnet- it is really strong!

    • tiny bulb-lots of light
      By AY76YOM5C7H3G on 2006-10-11
This light worked very well inside the tent. Of course it's not like a 100w bulb at home but for camping it was GREAT. I used it inside a 3 room 8 man tent and it did very well.

    • Battery Eating Monster!!

The third time we used it it fell and broke! If you want a DURABLE tent light my wife and I recomend the Fire Fly!

    • The tent light works well.
      By A1LQ1PU0U22V5N on 2007-04-04
We took one coleman tent light on our first family camping trip. Although we did end up buying more lighting on the trip, the tent light worked great. We even used it in our screen tent for extra lighting there. Just remember not to pull on the light when removing it; pull the metal piece on the back. Hope this helps.

    • It worked
      By A2ANEJQA4070L0 on 2007-04-05
This cute little light is awesome. I have a small tent, and I haven't used it in a bigger tent, but it gives off a lot of light. On the way home from camping, the light was accidentally turned on, and the battery didn't die! It has been 8 months since my camping trip, and I am still using the same batteries.

    • Meets Expectations-Great
      By A3IB9QGFG8LN0J on 2007-07-03
Purchased two Coleman Tent Lights this spring. Worked great! They don't give off enough light to read by but I didn't buy them for that reason. Provided enough light to see and move around in the tent in the dark. Would purchase again.

    • Exelent product.
      By AHM2YWVFPJTUQ on 2007-02-24
Buy this product to go of camp with my family, the truth is that I did a very good investment. The lamps work very well and the performance(yield) of the battery is very good.

    • Decent Light - Is It Necessary for Backpacking?
      By AWPODHOB4GFWL on 2008-07-03
Coleman makes good products, but this is more of a novelty item. The magnet feature is cool as you can virtually locate the magnet anywhere on your tent surface (easier to do with two people), by placing the magnet bar on the outside and light inside. The Xenon bulb puts out enough light to see what you are doing in your tent (I have a small two-man Eureka tent), but it definitely is not a reading light source. The four "AA" batteries that it needs will last for a good long weekend, but probably not a week. Also, keep in mind that it weighs about ten ounces with batteries if you are backpacking. However, it's a lot safer than a candle or a hot Coleman lantern. I would suggest a small pen-light would suffice for rough backpacking.

    • Nice light
      By A2L1NT4HV4U4DR on 2006-11-27
This is an awesome light for the price. The one thing that slightly disappointed me is that I thought it was a circular light, just photographed at an angle, but it is elliptical just like in the picture. Not a huge deal, though, as it worked very well.

    • Good Buy
      By A16XUA1AGZIV6Z on 2007-01-10
I mounted the baseplate for this light on the overhead roll-over bar on my Kawasaki Mule. Works great for an "interior" light. I keep the light in the glove box until I need it.

      By A1WDJ7H2MZNEAV on 2007-05-24
This product is unique and versatile. It has a typical hole so it can be hung on a nail, stuck onto a metal surface since the back is magnetic or hung anyplace on a tent using a convenient metal bar. The magnet is very strong and the product is well made. This is a lamp for anywhere!

    • Sucks up batteries and is too too heavy
      By A4OD6YMH5FLV5 on 2007-06-18
Not for your light weight hiking/camping. Don't forget to shut it off after a few minutes or you'll be investing in batteries.

      Coleman Tent Light
what a bargain. For just under $10, you have more than sufficient light to see inside a tent and as a bonus you can put it anywhere you want just by moving the magnetic holder. No more rigging up cords and bumping your head on a swinging lantern, no more lamps buried under sleeping bags. This is terrific!

    • Not for camping
      By A1B9MY1F593XF0 on 2008-02-08
I bought it based on Amazon reviews. If you have a closet or cupboard that needs extra light use it there, not out camping. It is heavy duty with the emphasis on heavy. Just about any camping light would be more practical than this. I am dissapointed in the reviewers who gave this a glowing review.

    • Not bad
      By A5D3CVTH51E3 on 2008-02-19
This light is fine, but heavy. When you hang it in the tent, it weighs it down. If it were to rain, you would probably have a leak. We actually use it in our camping kitchen and our camping grill. I can't recommend you use it with a grill because it isn't designed for that kind of heat- so be careful. But it's great with the camping kitchen!

    • Great product!!!

First of all: Amazon is the best for shopping on the net!!!!
I am really happy and satisfied with the product that I have bought!!!

      I sincerely recomend it...

The best product you can buy if you're into tent camping! No more fiddling with a flashlight in your tent. 'Nuf said.

This was great for camping. We even used it in the trailer--just stuck it to the ceiling.
