  • Great light, but I wish I got the auto ignition.

    By A1MHW5V4GZ16PU on 2007-10-19
Picked this one up after that last camping trip where I found I had plenty of propane but all my lanterns run on batteries that were all dead. Decided that this was what I need to solve that problem, but the store didn't have the auto ignite model in stock. Plenty bright and easy to use, but I worry that I might break a mantle lighting with matches. The only reason for the four stars is because in my opinion you should opt for the same lantern with auto ignite. Don't get me wrong, this is still a great lamp.

  • You can depend on this product.

This is lantern is easy to use, easy to maintain, and throws plenty of light with respectable run time. Nosier and not quite as bright as a white gas lantern but the convenience and durability more than make up for it. If you take pride in good gear, this lantern won't let you down.

I would also like to recommend buying an outdoor grill that uses the same propane tanks as this lantern. They cost about $3.99 in CA. Great combo.

Keep the wind in your face and happy hunting.

  • Nice Propane Lantern

    By AOWT21CP1VAJE on 2007-06-10
Used this for the first time this past weekend, so I've only had limited experience so far. (I'll update this review if I run into a problem later.) Some brief highlights:
    * The lantern works quite well. It puts out a good deal of light and is well constructed.

*Like other reviewers, I am concerned about the possibility of cross threading the soft aluminum header in the lantern versus the propane tanks. When attached the propane, take your time and be careful not to over tighten.

    * I think it is well worth the money to buy the version with the hard case. It is a nice case, easy to put the lantern away and makes is great to pack.

    * Like any propane product, there is some propane "hiss" while it burns, but I didn't find it bothersome. Possibly I expected some, so wasn't surprised.

    * This lantern does NOT have a ignition built in,so you have to use a match or a small torch, but it was easy enough to light.

Overall, a good lantern. We'll see how it holds up with time. The only reason for the 4stars instead of 5 is the issue with the soft aluminum threads.

  • Gold standard for lanterns

Great light out put. Solidly built and well protected by the plastic case. Cartridges and mantles readily available. My only gripe is the noise, but that is to be expected.

  • Great!

Pros: Easy to light with long match, mantles stay functional for a good while, can be BRIIIIIGHT, or nice & dim, if you just need a small light, but don't want to burn a lot of propane.

We ran our lantern for probably 9 hours over two nights, using varied brightnesses (dim for most of the time, to BRIGHT for about an hour and a half), and I still have about half a can of propane.

With the carrying case, it is a heck of a deal.
