  This item is very well made and will last a lifetime. Easy to handle to get food out of hot oil without hands being close to the heat.

  Bought after reading cooks illustrated recommendation. I haven't used it yet, but appears to be very well built. Has a long handle and a porus thick wire mesh strainer welded to the frame.
  
  

• Just don't put it in the dishwasher

  This is a great kitchen tool. It works well on fishing things out of hot oil or hot water. The only problem I have with it is I was in a hurry and put it in the dishwasher to clean and now it's a little rusty in a couple spots on the mesh. I scrubbed those by hand and rubbed a little cooking oil in. Take the time to wash by hand.

  This skimmer is very sturdy in construction. It will probably last a long time. It is slightly heavy for someone with small hands and wrists like me. However, I would still buy it again because it is a good product.

  This Typhoon Professional Cook's Wire Skimmer was recommended by Cook's Illustrated. Since I have never gone wrong with one of their recommendations I decided to buy this skimmer. What a great surprise. It was much more than I expected and has become one of my favorite tools. The price is low but the quality is high. Great addition to my kitchen.

• Great for deep frying

  I have been looking for a wire basket for deep frying. You know the kind you see in an electric deep fryer. The problem was that I use a rather small pot for all my deep frying and all the baskets were far too wide and would not fit in my pot. I ran across this skimmer and ordered it and I am glad I did. This fits perfect in my 7 inch wide pot and is large enough to scoop out most of the food on the first try. It also has a very long handle to keep my hand away from the boiling oil. The handle is extremely strong and will not bend even under the heaviest load. Just make sure you hand wash it. Do not let the photo fool you, it is bigger and longer than it looks.

  After being frustrated with all the bamboo handled "spiders" that came with woks, I was happy to find that America's Test Kitchen and Alton brown recommended this beauty.
  
  What a difference it makes! Large surface area and no handle obstruction. I can actually get most of my food out of a pot in one swipe. The long handle makes it easy to use, even in my turkey fryer pot.

• Useful, but of very poor quality

  The quality of this spider strainer is unacceptable. After using it twice, and hand washing with soap and a sponge, I noticed it has rusted on the handle and all over the mesh. I had only used it to pick up ravioli and blanched vegetables; I can only imagine how it would look like if it'd been dipped in hot oil for frying. At any rate, I sent it back to get a refund and I'm awaiting a response.
