Description Wenger Adler Family Cabin Dome Tent Features - Color coded set-up - Snag-free zipper covers - Quick release buckles on fly attachment - Factory taped fly seams - Climate control venting sys

Nicely lightweight and easy to set up and breakdown, the sporty Wenzel Pinon dome-style tent is a great choice for a weekend car camping outing. It features a generously sized single room that measures 7 by 7 feet--great for storing lots of gear--and a 50-inch maximum height. In addition to the good-sized D-style door (with a mesh window covering half of it), this tent also includes a window on the back for cross-current ventilation. The interior is quite spare, with only a small gear pocket in one corner near the door.

Setting up the tent was easy, for the most part, and we erected the tent (with its two shock-corded fiberglass poles) in under five minutes. The one impediment to an even faster assembly was the heavy-duty nylon corner pockets that secure the poles, which included a polyester-reinforced interior flap that's not seamed at the top of the entry. Thus, we had a tougher time than we should have trying to make correct purchase with the pocket, continually hitting the space between the nylon pocket and the interior poly pocket.

But we could forgive this slight design flaw for such a nicely light and easily backpacked tent. This tent also includes a fly that offers a good coverage area, including a bit of an extended cover over the door and back window. While we didn't have rain during our testing, we did use a sprinkler for an extended period, and were pleased to note that the fly ably handled the water run off, guiding it away from the bottom of the tent. To improve this tent's weather resistance, it's recommended that you use seam sealer to coat all exposed seams, applying only to the underside of the fly and inside the seams of the tent.

Overall, the Wenzel Pinon is a good choice for car campers and for the occasional hiked excursion. While it won't stand up to the worst that Mother Nature can throw your way, it should handle a decent amount of rain. And its ample 49 square foot interior will hold two good-sized adults and a good amount of gear. --Agen G.N. Schmitz

Selecting a Tent
Fortunately, there are all kinds of tents for weekend car campers, Everest expeditions, and everything in-between. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

Expect the Worst
In general, it's wise to choose a tent that's designed to withstand the worst possible conditions you think you'll face. For instance, if you're a summer car camper in a region where weather is predictable, an inexpensive family or all purpose tent will likely do the trick--especially if a vehicle is nearby and you can make a mad dash for safety when bad weather swoops in! If you're a backpacker, alpine climber or bike explorer, or if you like to car camp in all seasons, you'll want to take something designed to handle more adversity.

Three- and Four-Season Tents
For summer, early fall and late spring outings, choose a three-season tent. At minimum, a quality three season tent will have lightweight aluminum poles, a reinforced floor, durable stitching, and a quality rain-fly. Some three-season tents offer more open-air netting and are more specifically designed for summer backpacking and other activities. Many premium tents will feature pre-sealed, taped seams and a silicone-impregnated rain-fly for enhanced waterproofness.

For winter camping or alpine travel, go with a four season model. Because they typically feature more durable fabric coatings, as well as more poles, four-season tents are designed to handle heavy snowfall and high winds without collapsing. Of course, four-season tents exact a weight penalty of about 10 to 20 percent in trade for their strength and durability. They also tend to be more expensive.

Domes and Tunnels
Tents are broadly categorized into two types, freestanding, which can stand up on their own, and those that must be staked down in order to stand upright. Freestanding tents often incorporate a dome-shaped design, and most four-season tents are constructed this way because a dome leaves no flat spots on the outer surface where snow can collect. Domes are also inherently stronger than any other design. Meanwhile, many three-season models employ a modified dome configuration called a tunnel. These are still freestanding, but they require fewer poles than a dome, use less fabric, and typically have a rectangular floor-plan that offers less storage space than a dome configuration. Many one and two-person tents are not freestanding, but they make up for it by being more lightweight. Because they use fewer poles, they can also be quicker to set up than a dome.

Size Matters
Ask yourself how many people you'd like to fit in your fabric hotel now and in the future. For soloists and minimalists, check out one-person tents. If you're a mega-minimalist, or if you have your eye on doing some big wall climbs, a waterproof-breathable bivy sack is the ticket. Some bivy sacks feature poles and stake points to give you a little more breathing room. Also, if you don't need bug protection and you want to save weight, check out open-air shelters.

Families who plan on car camping in good weather can choose from a wide range of jumbo-sized tents that will accommodate all your little ones with room to spare. A wide range of capacities is also available for three- and four-season backpacking and expedition tents. Remember, though, the bigger the tent you buy, the heavier it will be, although it's easy to break up the tent components among several people in your group. It's also helpful to compare the volume and floor-space measurements of models you're considering.

  • Good tent

    By A3LR17F5FFRSNI on 2005-11-08
I like this tent more than the other reviewer. I used it for one night with my son, and it worked well. Woke up dry and happy.

It's got about a 4 foot height, so you definitely can't stand up in it, but it is a legit 7 feet by 7 feet. Pretty good size. Haven't seen anything on the market at this price.

    Other things I liked:
-Easy to get in and out of (D-style door is a plus)
-Fiberglass poles and overall easy set-up.

I forgot...I did use a seam sealer for all the edges of the tent. Worked well.

    Still can't believe the price.

  • Surprising quality for price...

    By A1ZB70VV6GY3FU on 2005-11-08
Since when were tents this affordable? I just received this tent yesterday. I set it up in my backyard, and I like the way it looks. Easy to set-up. Intuitive.

This is not a tent that I am going to use to climb a mountain, but rather use for easy day trips around the area.

Everyone calls these tents 2 or 3 person tents. But, I am certainly going to use just as a two person. I am 5'9" and my wife's the same height as well. We will be snug sleeping next to one another, but it will work...and at this price? Why not.

Realistically, I am hoping that this will work for the next few trips out. If it lasts for 7 years, then this is the best buy on the market.

Last thought-- I think some folks will like this in their backyard. A good family tent for sleepovers or for playing in the backyard or campsite...

I took this tent to Alaska on the back of my motorcycle. It performed well. Yes, the zipper got stuck a few times - but that has happened on expensive tents. The bottom seems a bit cheap, but it worked for many nights for me. You can set it up in a few minutes and can do so with only one person. I did not get wet in the rain, although we only had a few brief showers. Kept the mosquitos out and that was critical when there were over a thousand trying to get inside when I was in the Yukon. My buddy bought an expensive one person REI backpacking tent and was cramped for space in his. This has plenty of room for two or for one and a lot of gear. This is not a backpacking tent, though. Too heavy. Be sure and bring a tarp to put down underneath and you can save the tent's bottom from dirt, rocks and sticks.

Decent sized tent for the price. Dont use in the rain, it will leak!!!

  • Decent tent for the money

Backpacked this tent for a 4 day trip in the Sierras for two adults. We were able to sleep comfortably even with both of our packs between us. I suppose you can get three people in a 7x7 tent if you really had to. I'd prefer not to. My only real gripe is that the zipper gets caught too easily on the zipper flaps. It must have happened a dozen times. All in all for the money, this tent is a good value.

  • worse tent ever

this tent is for 2 kids only. very very small. installation is not easy and it getting wet if it is raining. DO NOT BUY IT.

I received 5 tents, all shipped individually, which was rediculous. All 5 tents flys leak at the seams. I called the mfg. They suggest I go buy some seam sealer and put on. New tents should not leak at the seams or anyplace else

  • Wenzel Tent
    By A1NHUQVGUYSS8M on 2007-01-09
The Wenzel Tent I purchased is very nice. It has plenty of room, more than I was expecting and it was exactly what I was looking for. In fact the first weekend I used it I had sleep through a storm and the tent kept me dry. It's great.

The tent is very easy for one person to set up alone. The interior is roomy and the center height is sufficient for easy movement within the tent.

  • Zipper knocked a star off.
    By A2OO32FIHS3C55 on 2007-09-19
You really can't expect much for $25 and this tent packs a lot of bang for the buck. If it wasn't for the incredible frustration I had with the zippers, this would be an easy four- or five- star review.

    Pros:
    -Price
    -Performance
    -Ease of setup/breakdown

    Cons:
    -Zipper
    -Zipper
    -Zipper

It stuck. When it wasn't sticking, it was getting mis-toothed. When it wasn't doing either of these things, it was sitting there being sweared at because the pull-tab had snapped off completely. Had it been a lovely summer night, this would've just been an inconvenience. Unfortunate, Wisconsin was experiencing record low temperatures and not being able to close the tent door would have been disastrous. Anyway, stupid zippers.

  • Easy to setup

this tent is a quaint little tent good for couples. i used this tent for a weekend camping trip with my hubby and had no trouble whatsoever setting up, it was pretty easy and took only about 15-20 minutes. it was pretty durable and everything felt secure. a good price for a good tent.

  • Survived a severe thunderstorm.
    By A1OW3Z3LBJ3OFV on 2008-06-19
We recently purchased this tent for a car camping trip in West Virginia, prepping it first with a seam sealer (as you should on any tent). This tent is VERY easy to set up, roomy enough for 2 people and a few belongings, has a handy if small loft, and survived a night of brutal severe thunderstorms. A great buy for $30.

  • Great Price
    By A2LS566AAWQ7YX on 2007-06-13
When I spent 30 bucks on a camping tent, I asssumed I was going to either not be able to erect it, or use it only once and have it destroyed.. This tent is easy for one person to set up, has a nice floor, has lots of room and is a GREAT buy at 30 dollars! Take care of it and use it over and over........I love it!

  • Good deal - you can't go wrong
    By A2HB2TU6OQE2PJ on 2007-07-12
I was looking for a cheap but good starter tent for my recent middle age interest in camping - go figure.
I set it up in the driveway to test it out and it was easy to put together.Considering my limited experience (I haven't gone camping in over 40 years) most of you should have no problems.
I got in it and I could see myself plus another person but three would be to cramped ( I'm 6'2")
The quality looks good too and the zippers worked well.

  • Great tent for the price
    By A2MTR11NBZLV3M on 2008-02-25
I just got this tent on Friday. On Saturday my husband and I camped out in the backyard ( with our beagle in between us :) ). It was very easy to set up like the other reviewers have stated. Great quality for the price. We didn't have any trouble with the zippers... though I was extra careful with them as other reviewers seemed to have trouble with them. First time 'camping' experience with this tent was a good one!

  • terrific buy for $25!
    By A2X4V3TI8JIWRM on 2007-08-01
I've used the tent twice so far; applied seam sealer and had no problem during one brief rainfall. For the money, it's a great tent! a couple of little storage areas, 2 'windows', easy entry, well designed, very light and easy to set up. The only small irritation so far is the smallish storage bag; but it fits with a bit of work. All in all a great value.

  • Camping in the Keys
    By A2TFSF3VT68RO8 on 2007-03-09
I found the tent very easy to set-up and I did purchase seam sealer and applied to all seam, The only leak problem I had was at the little "T" tabs by the window and door openings, they acted as wick and it did cause some drops of water to get on my bag and mattress other than that it functioned properly. This was the first time in 30 years since I had been camping and the next time i'll get a tent that I can stand up in and to also have an elevated bed, I'm 63 !

  • windy night
    By A3DWJHXFUTI64G on 2007-05-13
used the tent on a camping trip and it got pretty windy on us. i had the supplied stakes in it and the tent held up nice. the stitching is good and it only takes about 15 min to set up. it has some storage in side too. in all i think that i will get some good use out of this.

  • This thing has save me money...
    By A2SEDS2IBXAFV on 2007-07-16
The tent is easy to put up (it might take an extra few minutes the first time--I thought I had extra parts, lol), but once you set it up, it's easy. It's very spacious for two people. I know it says it sleeps three--and I'm sure it could, but two is much more comfortable. Very lightweight. I give this tent a 10!

  • Festival Camping
    By A3U8EFHZEWXEZT on 2008-05-06
My boyfriend and I used this tent for a three night stay in Hunter, NY, at a jam band festival. Neither of us had ever camped before. When I bought this tent, I had my doubts. Could a cheap tent hold up under the constant New York rain?

Oh, boy, did it. I completely neglected to seal the seams (we reinforced the outside with duct tape), and naturally, it poured. The wind was rather gusty the last night we were there. This tent held up admirably--no leaks, no tears, no rolling down the mountain at 2 AM. It's easy to set up; we managed it first time, in the dark, exhausted from driving, jamming, and trekking up the mountain.

If you're not a hard core, man-against-nature, wrastlin'-with-bears type, this tent should work for you. After I got home, one of the poles did break on me: I had popped it up to clean out the mud, left it in the yard to dry, and didn't anchor it down. A good wind knocked it over and snapped a pole. That'll learn me.

  • Excellent Product for price!

I recieved this tent within two days of ordering it. I went camping that next weekend. It was easy to set up and its a great tent for the price.

  • Held up during the storm.......
    By AH0VMMM8JB1N3 on 2007-07-12
Well.. I must admit at first I was a bit skeptical when purchasing this tent for our first camping experience. My husband and I decided to purchase this particular tent due to its unbeatable price and durability (recent reviews). To our surprise, the tent kept us from floating into the nearby lake during a rain storm. Amazon is great!! Will be a life long customer.

  • my experience with the Wenzel Pinon 7 x 7 Sport tent
    By ANALUFKKYUANI on 2007-07-17
I just used this tent as a single person and it was very comfortable and roomy. Yet the description should read "three sleeping bags"
because 3 persons in that tent would be uncomfortable and there will be no space to put staff.

Also it would have been better if the rain fly was bigger. Most of my trip the weather was great but in the 2 days that it rained, the tent was dry but the rain fly was covering just a little bit over the entrance of the tent.

  • Great tent for a great price!
    By A2FHE8GHCIBEOB on 2007-07-27
Holy Smokes! I had never been camping when I was invited on an overnight trip at a local mountain. I needed a cheap tent, saw this online for the right price and crossed my fingers. We are in the midst of monsoon, so we didn't know what to expect in terms of weather. It rained ALL night and the tent held up perfectly...there wasn't even much condensation inside the tent. I did seal the seams, which might have helped. Still, for $25, we were very happy. It's easy to set up, compact when put away, and roomy. Only disadvantage is the zipper. Otherwise great!

  • Easy set-up
    By A116A3KQWZS1DU on 2007-07-30
We purchased this tent just before our weeklong camping trip. The tent is built great and goes up easily. I do wish I bought a larger tent as it was a bit small for my 6'1" husband and our full size air mattress. Thank goodness it didn't rain or it definitely would have leaked because of us touching the sides. But it's a great tent for the price.

  • Great deal for the money
    By A1Q3ZXKZC42HL7 on 2008-06-08
I just purchased this tent for a 3 week tour of several major National Parks in the western United States. I needed a tent for me and my friend that would set up easily and just get the job done, no fancy bells and whistles.

The tent served us quite well on our journey. Once you get the hang of it, it sets up very quickly. With two people, you can have the thing up in 5 minutes or less, and down and folded away in the same time.

While in Yosemite, we were stuck in the tent for almost 24 hours during torrential thunderstorms. Our body heat combined with low temperatures outside created condensation on the inside of the tent and on the tent floor. It dripped pretty badly at points of the storm. Keep in mind this tent is designed for simple use. It isn't appropriate for any type of extreme weather conditions or anything like that. It's simple and gets the job done, but it doesn't do much more than that.

You can't beat it for the price.

  • Good buy for $25
    By AD91A4GCVQ3BN on 2007-07-23
I bought this for backyard camping. If that is what you are doing, this tent is fine for it! I slept comfortably by myself, and 2 would have fit nicely. 3? I don't think so. I liked the mesh on both sides and top, which left the breeze in when I felt stuffy in the morning. The only problem I had with this was that one of my stakes bent already (could have hit a rock), and the tent flapped around a bit, but this could have been human error, as I don't camp much. I thought it was fine for me, however, for only $25!

  • Great value
    By A3LCF5MZH2NEA4 on 2007-07-24
I'm not an avid camping person, so I bought this tent for the price. I'll have to say, it was far better quality than I expected and was easy to setup even for a camping newbie like me. Also... all my friends had new expensive tents with fancy rain-cover for the tops... mine had the same top, so it didn't look like my tent was as cheap as it was (or from 1978).
