Best single-serve coffee maker out there By A26AYPDDAKF0TL on 2005-11-15
If you're reading this review, you're most likely doing research and trying to decide between the Keurig line (B40,B50,B60), the Tassimo, or the Senseo. Out of those three, the Keurig is the best looking, the most durable, has the best heating and pumping mechanism, and has the largest variety of coffees and teas available. The Tassimo's versatility is tempting, but variety of coffees is lacking, the machine is a first-run model that does not feel as quality as the Keurig (I could barely find a piece of metal in the entire thing), and it cannot be set to warm itself up like the Keurig. The Senseo isn't bad and I may even consider getting it as a second machine, but it is kind of lame how you need two pods to brew an 8 oz cup of coffee. Considering the price of pods that I was looking at, it would outprice both the Keurig and the Tassimo for daily usage.
Between the Keurig models (B40,B50,B60), I spent a lot of time trying to decide and eventually went with the B60, mainly because the B60 is the only model that brews 3 different sizes of coffee--5.25, 7.25, and 9.25oz. The B50, a favorite amongst shoppers, does not offer the 9.25oz size. This large size allows my Oxo travel mug to almost completely fill after using one Extra Bold K-cup. As an added benefit of the B60, you get beautiful blue LEDs behind the display and the water tank, as well as a polished chrome handle and polished chrome outer-ring to the display. It looks very modern and very classy in my otherwise boring kitchen. Highly recommended.
I love this Coffee Maker By AU389YIKTP1Q8 on 2005-11-06
Finally, I found the easy - no clean up - fast coffee maker that I need for my busy lifestyle. The k-pods are awesome - I use it for coffee and tea, it's so easy. Just put in the k-pod - push a button and you have your beverage. Great taste - no fuss - no mess or a chance of an exploding pod - a great size water reserve and a cool look. I've bought so many coffee makers over the years and I finally found a keeper.
One thing - you can't make a pot - but this machine is ready for the next cup in 30 seconds (fast) and my guest love choosing their favorite flavor, (there are so many to choose from) so I haven't missed the pot at all.
Great Coffee Maker! Keurig Website Needs Improvement..... By A14QJTY9SOTCBA on 2006-04-07
I decided to try the Keurig B-60 even though I had had a less than favorable experience with a "pod" type machine a while back. I tried the Melitta One:One machine in summer of 2004 and used it for about 6 months and it made ok coffee; the dark roast was actually pretty good but the lack of variety just bored me to death and the fact that the pods available in my local store didn't have freshness dates on them and over a 6 month period all seemed to have the same batch number. Then my store stopped carrying the pods altogether and I shelved the pod machine and wrote it off as a passing "fad". Recently I found some literature from a party I attended in 2003 where they had a commercial Keurig machine and remembered how good and easy to make the Keurign K-cups were and decided to research on the web. All the reviews seemed to be favorable and I was quite impressed with the variety of coffees available and also the fact the you can use the My-K_cup filter to use your own coffee. I ordered the unit from Amazon and am I glad I did! First of all I received a $25.00 discount and Amazon shipped via priority mail and the unit arrived in less than 2-days. It was easy to set up and I was brewing coffee within minutes. The coffee is delicious! Out of the 18 cup variety pack, I found only one brand that I didn't care for but that is just personal taste. The coffee is so much better than the Melitta pod unit. If you have tried other pod units and decided to give up on the idea as I had, I suggest you try the Keurig. I am sure you won't be disappointed. A couple of points however. The B-60 costs twice as much as the B-40 and I wonder if the blue backlighting and the ability to brew at different temperature ranges are truly worth the extra expense. It can be adjusted between 192 Degrees (the factory default setting) and 187 degrees in one degree increments. I personally probably will just leave it at the factory setting so didn't need that feature. The B-60 also gives you a third cup size and that is the travel mug size. Again, if you like your coffee weaker (more water) or if you routinely use a travel mug this might be worth it for you but from what I've read most people agree with me that it makes the best coffee at the medium cup setting, especially if you add milk or cream to your coffee. I'd give the B-60 5 stars but give it 4 stars because of Keurig's website itself. I ordered four- 25 count boxes of assorted K-cups from Keurig on the same day I ordered my B-60 from Amazon so that I would be sure to have a ready supply. The order totalled nearly $60.00 and Keurig promptly lost my order. Even though they don't warn you on the website as you are completing your order that if you want to ship to a P.O. box you will lose the ability to track your order and it will take 14 business days to arrive, that is exactly what will happen. It is now over 2 weeks and still no coffee. I had to go to a local department store that carries Keurig and pay full retail "gouge" prices for a supply of K-cups to get me by. Come on Keurig, spend the extra buck or two to ship large orders of K-cups via priority mail like amazon does. My brewer shipped to my P.O. box no problem. If you ship to a street address it is supposed to come UPS so you probably won't have the problem I did but since I did have the hassle I give it a 4 star rating.
****Update**** My coffee arrived this afternoon from Keurig and all I can say is that you simply have to try the Timothy's Mocha Java K-cups. Outstanding! In my opinion it was worth waiting for and has completely redeemed Keurig for their P.O. Box shipping policy. They offered me 2 free 5-packs of K-cups too. I would change my rating to a 5 star if I could!
Keurig vs. Nespresso - Who Will Win? By A2SH7OWE8QJYNC on 2007-10-19
About 2 months ago we bought a Keurig B60 for my husband. We'd been wasting coffee for years when he would make a potful, drink a cup or 2 and toss the rest. Back in 2002 I got a Nespresso C190 machine because I like the richer flavor of espresso, but he could never get used to it and kept making drip coffee. So over the last 2 months I've had ample opportunity to compare the 2 systems.
Keurig has one gigantic win over the Nespresso, and that's that the K-cups are more readily available and there are more varieties of them. The price is slightly less per cup (at this time, 8 cents less per cup) than Nespresso capsules. Machine-wise the two are similar in their ease of use.
However, the Nespresso has a couple of good points over the Keurig. The K-Cup coffees are bland, like restaurant coffee; the Nespresso drinks are strong and rich. Also, the Nespresso machine lets me make my drink as strong or weak as I like by controlling the amount of water that goes into the cup. My parents like to use the Nespresso and make one capsule in a coffee mug, but I like to use it and make one capsule in a demitasse cup. It also has a frothing cappuccino attachment but we never use that.
Nespresso almost loses this competition because, with their capsules being only available through them, I have to pay shipping. (With the K-Cups I either get them locally or get free shipping from Amazon.) I'd love to be able to pick up capsules at Sur La Table or similar stores.
This comparison comes out almost completely equal. Ultimately it boils down to your taste. For me, I'm willing to suffer the Nespresso hassles because their drinks simply taste better. But my husband is equally willing to put up with the Keurig flavors because of the greater convenience.
Dont do it By A27V8LS6HEKFXJ on 2007-04-18
When we got our first one we were very pleased. In fact we ended up buying 5 more and giving them away as wedding presents and an anniversary present. within about 18 mos ours quit working. within the next few months 3 of the other 5 stopped working. i contacted the mfg and with a large amount of hassle they agreed to sell me another one for $100. we have had the second one for about 14 months and now it has stopped working. the mfg does not stand behind the product line if its over a year. Do not buy this product if you want it to work for more than a year!!! Out of the 7 I have purchased in the last 33 months only one still works!!!
- Great Coffe but machine acts up after repeated use.
     By A1KFTCF20BJ86S on 2006-05-02
I purchased this machine about 6 months ago, and it has gotten daily use since that time.Recently, in the past month or so it has started to "act up". The water does not warm up, or it only brews a half of a cup. Sometimes when you push the button, nothing at all happens. So, what used to be a quick 30 second cup of coffee haas now become a daily ritual of waiting, praying and cursing. I would think that for the price of this coffee maker it would last a littler longer than 6 months without having difficulties. Oh, and by the way, we are conviently well out of the 30 day money back guarntee.
- My favorite kitchen appliance! No complaints!
     By A2CTUCME982IH1 on 2006-02-08
I purchased this machine from Williams-Sonoma and it did come with the "My K-Cup" personal ground coffee filter. I experimented in every way possible as soon as I took it out of the package. The pods work great, but I was skeptical at first about the more "economical" alternative---using the "my k-cup" filter with regular ground coffee. Well, I tried it...and it was excellent. The manual suggests using 2 tbs. of ground coffe in the filter (which IS marked at 1 tbs. and at 2 tbs.) and holds up to 2.7 tbs. to give you room to play if you like stronger coffee. I filled the filter all the way to the top and brewed 2 medium sized cups in a row....both were perfect.
The machine also does hot water, of course, for tea and hot chocolate....but I tried to take it a step further by placing a regular tea bag (minus the string and tag) into the chamber...and it brewed perfectly. So, loose tea in the "my k-cup" filter would also turn out great, I'm sure.
All in all, this is truly a QUICK, versatile, SUPERB coffee machine. Great for myself, who enjoys decaf and tea, and also for my husband who prefers strong as strong can get. He can have his cup, then I can have mine right after. No mess....no cleaning (except for having to clean the my k-cup filter, which is a breeze), and MANY options from a small, simple machine. Well worth the money. I can't wait to use it when I have guests....that way everyone can have exactly whatever kind of coffee or tea they want and without a wait!
- Always in search for the perfect cup.....found it!!!
     By A3BGTLL5JSLRA3 on 2006-01-21
I bought my boss the Home Cafe for Christmas to use at work. She loves it, so I tried a cup. I wasn't impressed with the flavor or trying to use the machine. But, I did like the convenience, so I was going to by one for myself. I came here, saw the reviews(which were less than stellar)so I moved on. I found The Keurig B60 and read the reviews on it. 199.00 seemed a little steep for a coffee pot, but I had gotten a 100.00 gift certificate for a store that carried them. I figured I may regret it because coffee is coffee and my Cuisinart makes some very good coffee. I was tired of throwing out unused coffee so I went for it. I tried to rationalize the expense of the coffe K cups by recognizing that I would not be throwing coffee out. So, home it comes. I had it set up, primed and ready to brew in 5 minutes. I brewed Columbian for me, Sumantra for my husband and tea for my daughter. We all loved it!! The convenience alone is worth the money, but, when it was time to go to bed and make my traditional, programed coffee for the morning. The filter cleaning, the pot washing, the measuring, the water filling, and the wiping of the coffee grinds and the water drops that had escaped me during the process onto the kitchen counter, I realized that I didn't have to do it. That and the individual choice of what coffee to drink, as well as the great coffee it makes just thrilled me. I told my husband that I must be getting old for a coffee pot to excite me that much, but I'm telling you it's worth every penny even without the gift card. If you are on the fence, I don't believe you'll be disappointed if you go for it, and I don't believe you'll ever own another coffee pot.
- Best. Coffeemaker. Period.
     By A3AC9FFIFY94DH on 2007-02-19
I bought a Keurig after reading all of the reviews about it. I thought to myself, surely this machine has a lot of hype to live up to.
Not only did it pass the hype test, it did so with flying colors.
Let me just say that if you are doing research on this machine, you will discover that people just rave about it. Review after review say it is worth the investment.
Add this review to that list.
PROS:
It works not just as a coffee maker, there are also tea K-Cups available and it also can be used to heat water in less than 20 seconds. So if you have a tea bag and just want hot water, there is not need to use a kettle. Ever.
You can buy a filter that allows you to place your own GROUND beans in the machine and make your favorite coffee blend.
It is ridiculously easy to use. No paper filters needed. No grinds in the bottom of the cup. No wasting away of drinking coffee in the morning.
KEURIG'S CUSTOMER SERVICE ALONE MAKES THIS A BEST BUY. If you have ANY problems, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, Keurig operators are at the ready. I once called then at midnight because I thought I was having an issue setting up the machine. The customer service guy (had a Boston accent) was very nice and answered all my questions. He also registered the machine (it was a "gift"- to myself :-)), so there was no need to mail in the warranty card.
The blue LED lights are the best kept secret about this machine. It is very modern and fits into any kitchen, both during the day and at night.
CONS:
The K-Cups are hard to find in stores. I have only seen Bed Bath and Beyond sell K Cups in the store. 18 k-cups for $10??? That's ridiculous. ENTER AMAZON... They sell 50 K-Cups for $19.00. That is a better deal by FAR. You would be well to do to buy a coffee variety pack so you can see which one is the best for you. You don't want to get stuck with 50 K-cups of a flavor you don't like.
If you are having a group of people over, it's definitely easier to make a 12-cup batch of coffee. Some people may not like having to use 12 K-cups (a K-Cup for each guest). But here's the thing. Every single person will comment on how good their coffee is. You can then show them the Keurig, and it's a great conversation piece.
The B60 is a good compromise among the Keurig models. You can save your money and not spend $30 for a larger water reservoir. So you get a travel mug size of 11.25(?) oz. in the B70. So what? The 9.etc oz. cup size is plenty big for most travel mugs once you mix in the creamer.
Let's be frank. It's expensive. But honestly, the investment is worth it. Trust the reviews about the machine. People are more inclined to write a review if they really love a product or it they really hate a product. Obviously, people love this machine, and for good reason.
It is economical to buy this machine if you hate wasting $2, $3 or $4 at a coffee shop for your coffee in the morning. The per-cup average is about 40 cents, and in the long term, this machine pays itself off.
BOTTOM LINE:
If you're reading this review, you obviously care about what other people think before you spend $100+ on a freaking coffee maker. Don't worry. I was in your shoes. But there is a peace of mind that comes along knowing that you made the right choice. Do as much research as you can and get as many opinions as you can. But just remember that thousands of satisfied Keurig customers can't be wrong.
Good luck.
- I Love it! Just a couple of minor complaints...
     By A9Y56NV6Q5RYN on 2006-01-13
I LOVE this machine. I initially bought it as a christmas present for my husband who only has one cup of coffee in the morning. Currently have a Capresso thermos coffee maker, and you have to prep the pot and the coffee still does not come out very hot when brewing a small pot. You need to brew a full pot to get hot coffee. Anyhow, I thought this would be perfect for the morning, he can brew and go, and we could bust out the Capresso when we had company. Boy was I wrong. Everyone wants a Keurig cup. With so many choices (Decaf, flavored, tea, Fair Trade, Organic...etc) from Green Mountain Coffee (awesome coffee) you can customize a cup for all. That is so awesome. And with virtually no mess or clean up, it is a no brainer. We really do love our new found toy, only problem is now we are drinking too much coffee/tea since it is so easy to brew. My only complaints are that it isn't as hot as I would like it, but I like my coffee HOT. True, there are 3 brewing temperatures, and it comes to you prepared to brew the hottest (192 degrees), but it still isn't quite hot enough. Plus the filling of the tank can be a pain, and it does make a loud noise during heating/brewing. But if you asked me to give it up I would say NO WAY. We have searched high and low for a good coffee maker, and this one is tops.
- Best of the pod machines
     By A1JGXDVUJTHYHG on 2006-04-24
I tried 4 different pod machines and found the coffee to run the gamut from weak to strong and bitter-UNTIL I found the Keurig! We have 2 homes and one in each place. We find everyone can enjoy a coffee they like in the K-cups from Keurig -from chai tea, all kinds of flavored varieties of coffee, as well as dark and rich coffee, cocoa, and now they even have a little cup in which you can put your own coffee. Easy to use, to clean, and maintain. We especially like Green Mountain Coffee and Bigelow teas, all of which are available at keurig.com. Coffee can be programmed for monthly arrivals or whenever you want to order it, and it arrives quickly. A great fresh cup of coffee-in different sizes.
- Keurig & Extra Bold K-Cups = Excellence!
     By A104NBZOSZODEQ on 2005-12-26
I wrote a review under the B50 earlier because there was no listing for the B60. Everything below is still accurate. We went out of town for a few days and really missed our coffee maker! We will order the new refillable accessory when it comes out in January, just to have on hand in case we run out of K-Cups one day.
Wonderful way to wake up in the morning!
I couldn't wait until Christmas so my husband got his Keurig for an early Thanksgiving present. It turns out, that this is a great gift for me, too!
I've never been a coffee drinker, but I've been making him coffee for 27 years. He's never complained even though I'm sure his coffee has ranged from too weak, too strong and just plain bitter. When he told me about a friend with a single serve coffee maker that makes every cup fresh and good, I did the research and ordered the Keurig. Since he likes his travel cups, I ordered the Extra Bold Sumatran and Magic K-Cups.
When I gave him the Keurig he was so impressed that he didn't even complain about the price. I was all set to tell him that I made 8 cups of his old drip coffee each day and poured out about half, so this would actually save money. My logic didn't pan out anyway. He is drinking even more coffee now because it is so good!
To fill his travel cup he runs one Extra Bold through twice on the 5 ounce setting and says that it is perfect. Since it is ready all the time, I no longer get up a few minutes early to have his coffee ready for him and he can even enjoy a cup after dinner. The best part is that I've tried the flavored Southern Pecan and French Vanilla coffees and I love them! I thought I would only use it for tea.
Keurig has made us both very happy.
- Perfect Coffee, Never Any Mess!
     By A20ZQ989UGTXY4 on 2006-01-17
I can only echo the others, to possibly reassure those of you who are undecided about this Special Edition Kuerig.
Who hasn't been let down by the purchase of a coffee maker? Me, its been dozens of times! This one is truly different and unique. Check out their website for complete info. http://www.keurig.com
We have used this machine daily, several times a day for almost two months now. It is, indeed, the best tasting, easiest to use coffee maker I have ever used. Each K-cup is a mini brewer, complete with coffee and filter, so you know its damn fresh.
No problems, no "noise" and it brews coffee at 192*F. Any hotter and it would be boiling! Buy it. You won't regret it!
- I found the magic
     By A1P5Q84UX054AR on 2006-03-12
I was trying to decide btween the Tassimo system and the Keurig. The draw of the Tassimo was the lattes and cappicinos, but reviews complained that the milk pods were messy and there were less choices of coffees. So I bought the Keurig. Well we all love latte type drinks, so I played around and think I have found I formula that produces a drink very close to one you would buy from a shop. I bought a milk frother (mine is by aerolatte) and some Torani syrup (widely available and inexpensive). I put 1/3 cup of milk in my mug with 1 tbs of syrup and froth it. I then put the mug in the machine and brew the middle size cup (7.5 oz). This fills my oversized coffe mug and makes a great drink. You can sweeten it more if you like. Hubby adds 1 pkt splenda. The Torani syrup is also available sugar free. This process only takes about 1 minute. I can get one mug ready while the 1st one brews. Additional clean up is only to rinse the frother.
- Best In Show
     By AFC3APFZ3183E on 2007-11-03
I've owned the Tassimo, the Flavia, the Sensao, and there is no doubt that the Keurig system is Best In Show.
My rating system:
5 = Sublime
4 = Quite nice
3 = Not bad, but...
2 = Below expectations
1 = Criminal!
TASSIMO:
Easy of operation: 4.5 Just drop the disk in and go.
"Hot water only" feature: Not a big ordeal, but have to use the special "cleaning" disk which "spits" the water into the cup, which causes splatter.
Easy cleaning: 4 It's really not that bad, however, you have to take out the filter (the price you pay for filtered water - so it's worth it, really ;) ) before cleaning the tank. The filter, itself, should be replaced - not too expensive. The only serious issue I have with this is that its surfaces are multi-level which creates lots of nooks and crannies. This makes cleaning the unit annoying - I have to use a cue-tip...but that's just me... ;)
Variety of coffee/tea/other available: 1 This is where the Tassimo takes a serious nosedive. I say "criminal" because most of its disks come from Gevelia. Now, if you like Gevelia, then this isn't a problem. I like Gevelia, too, but I also like others, such as Timothy's, Green Mountain, Gloria Jeans, etc. And this unit accepts only Gevelia, Maxwell House, Gloria Jeans (I think), and maybe one or two others. Nowhere near enough!
Price (per cup) vs. taste: 3 Okay, if you don't mind your cappuccino, espresso, and lattes to taste a little "off". What I mean is, I love coffee, tea, etc. but I'm not a prig about it; so, for me, what the cappuccinos, espressos, and lattes lack in quality, they make for in value. This is definitely a "you get what you pay for" scenario. Keep in mind, too, that the "milk" the machine uses is white...is liquid...but, since it doesn't require refrigeration, I have no idea what it really is. I'm sure it's fine - some sort of milk derivative - but still, do you really want to consume that regularly?
Buyer remorse factor: 3 Once you realize all of the above mentioned, you may feel a little buyer remorse. But still, it makes a fairly good cup of coffee.
Starbucks/Dunks/your fav coffee house comparison: 1 'nuf said.
Travel mug adaptation: 4 This is because most travel mugs won't fit under the unit unless you take off the catch basin. Not a biggie, though.
Cup size selection: 4 This is okay; however, what it considers small, medium, and large, are not quite right. So you'll find yourself hitting the button again for a second cycle. But just know that none of the machines I've used are any better at this..!
OVERALL: 2 I have to give it a 2 because of what it lacks as well as the beverages overall quality. If you like anything but the limited selection of coffee this product offers, it's not a bad deal. But if you want to make cappuccinos or lattes that are not of the "Mc" variety, move on.
FLAVIA
Overall use: 2 It's a pain in the @#$%# to use this machine! The machine uses pouches that have a little plastic cap. You have to fit this plastic cap onto a kind of rail in the machine. But it's not very intuitive; you have to know that you did it right because there's no satisfying "click" or anything.
"Hot water only" feature: 1
Easy cleaning: 3 Not too bad, but it seems to me that all of the spots you really want to clean are the most difficult to reach. This is a design issue; to clean the spout, for example, you have to crouch down (or flip the machine) in order to reach the spout, etc.
Variety of coffee/tea/other available: 1 This machine works only with Flavia coffee/tea/etc. I have a real problem with that.
Price vs. taste: 1 'nuf said.
Buyer remorse factor: I returned mine two weeks after I bought it.
Starbucks/Dunks/your fav coffee house comparison: 1
Travel mug adaptation: 1 The design of this unit is so poor...just forget it!
Cup size selection:
OVERALL: 1 STAY AWAY!
SENSAO
Overall use: 5 Great. Just drop the pod in and you're good to go.
Easy cleaning: 2 The problem is that the pods are just that coffee filter paper; therefore, they're a bit of a mess to handle after you've made the coffee. If you go for this one, keep paper towels nearby.
"Hot water only" feature: 1
Variety of coffee/tea/other available: 5 This is the only brand whose products are available in my local supermarket.
Price vs. taste: 3.5 If you like strong coffee, you won't like this machine. I love strong coffee; therefore, I don't like this machine.. ;)
Buyer remorse factor: 3
Starbucks/Dunks/your fav coffee house comparison: 2.5
Travel mug adaptation: 4.5 Not too bad, but, like all of the machines, you have to remove the catch basin. The only problem with this particular machine is that it's a little tricky.
Cup size selection: 2 You have only two options, and both are not very good.
OVERALL: 3.5
KEURIG
Overall use: 5 Just drop-'n-go!
Easy cleaning: 5 The water tank is easy to snap in and out (you do get the satisfying "click"). Even though stuff gets caught up in the corners of the LCD screen and buttons, the design of this machine is so good that it just requires a quick wipe.
"Hot water only" feature: 3 Just lift the bar up and down so it "thinks" there's a K-cup inside. Then make your cup selection. The only problem is, if you don't clean it daily, you may taste a little coffee residue if you don't take out the K-cup mechanism - which isn't a big deal at all; it just pops out.
Variety of coffee/tea/other available: 5 While you can't get most of the selection at your local store (like you can with the Sensao), you can peruse *dozens* of pages of K-cups right here on Amazon. If you can't find something you like, I think it's an issue that goes beyond your taste for coffee... ;)
Price vs. taste: 5
Buyer remorse factor: I didn't experience any at all.
Starbucks/Dunks/your fav coffee house comparison: 4.5 This is the only machine that I've used where I never say, "I think today I'll treat myself to a Starbucks."
Travel mug adaptation: 5 The catch basin just slips out. Again, hats off to design because it also stays put due to an innovative little "bump"
Cup size selection: 5 But I will say that this depends on the unit you get. If you get 3-cup selection, it's great (5 all the way). But if you get a 2-cup selection you'll be double-shooting. Not a problem, however, because you don't sacrifice taste.
OVERALL: 5 - This is the one, folks. If you want cappuccino, espresso, or lattes, get machine that makes these beverages in addition to this one for coffee, teas, hot cocoas, etc. That's how good the Keurig is.
- Great coffee maker!! Great tea maker too!!
     By AC2EGRJTJYVBA on 2006-10-15
Great coffee maker that makes a good cup of coffee and a good cup of tea. If you're exceptionally picky about your coffee, you might be disappointed since it does not rival a well-made fresh ground cup of joe, but the Keurig allows you to brew a good cup of coffee and tailor it to your specific tastes. My wife likes decaf and I like strong caffeinated coffee, so this offers the ability to make everyone happy. The selection of k-cups for both tea and coffee is much better than other single cup systems. The coffee from Timothy's is my favorite, especially the ultra dark roasts. The other plus for this unit over the other pod systems is that you can purchase a small filter which allows you to use your OWN custom ground coffee and blends. Good selection of teas from Twinings and Celestial Seasonings. System brews a good cup of tea that is smotth and not bitter. The downside is that we haven't found a good local source and have had to buy from the internet from both Amazon and Ebay. Ebay allows you to buy individual k-cups so that you can sample different blends and brands before you buy the big boxes. Local stores have just a few brands and don't reflect the much larger variety available for the Keurig system vice the other pod systems. We're glad we bought this unit!!
- Works a lot better than it should!
     By A28YDMI499J1X9 on 2007-08-14
I'm a coffee snob, plain and simple. I have a high end espresso machine, burr grinder, several french presses and an assortment of drip coffee makers along with a wonderful vintage vacuum machine. But, on a recent vacation, the condominium I was staying at came equiped with one of the Keurig machines and there were a few K-containers of assorted blends in the cupboard. Expecting nothing more than ordinary "motel room" coffee, I figured out how to use the Keurig, fired it up and put in a nondescript K-cup of "Columbian" and brewed a small cup while I was getting ready to head out in the morning....I won't say I was shocked, but I was certainly impressed. That cup was significantly better than it should have been given the pre-packaged, pre-ground coffee and the somewhat "gimicky" appeal of the system. I purchased some additional "k-cups" that day from a local store and continued to have easy, no mess morning coffee for the rest of my stay.
When I got back one of the first things I did was investigate the Keurig and I wound up getting a B-60 along with several boxes of K-cup coffees. Is it as good a 100% Blue Mountain in a french press or Chemix drip maker? No, but it is pretty darn good coffee, that is consistent from cup to cup with literally no mess.
The machine operates pretty much the same way as an auto expresso maker with the K-cup replacing the espresso handle and filter. Hot water from a removable tank is heated and then injected into the K-cup after the machine punctures it top and bottom. On this particular model one can adjust the size of the cup and the temperature of the brew, though this is a rather narrow range. I got the best results from the smallest cup size and a 190 degree temp setting, but LIKE WITH ALL COFFEE MAKERS, BUYING ONLY THE FRESHEST K-CUPS AND USING GOOD QUALITY BOTTLED WATER, will be necessary to get the best results. The bottom line is that one can easily get a good decent cup of coffee in less than a minute (if you leave the machine on all the time) with practically no mess. Do I use it all the time? No, but for a single cup in the middle of the day, or if you only want one or two cups in the morning, it's a simple, no mess fix. I also, got the available permanent filter and have had good success with my own grinds, though you do have to futz with the settings a little.
The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because of the initial and ongoing cost connected "the convenience". But it does make very good coffee and is clearly superior to most auto drip coffee makers using store bought pre ground coffee.
- Best single serve maker on the market
     By A2SNJFNGSWWE5P on 2005-11-07
I would have to agree with the positive reviews of this unit. The contrsuction of this coffee maker is the strongest on the market and the coffee selection is the largest that you will find.
[...]
Don't forget that Amazon.com also sells K-Cups and you can get free shipping with Amazon Prime if you have it. It really saves a lot of money in the long run.
- It's BETTER than I expected.
     By A1AC0P3B8C5NND on 2006-04-20
A bunch of us at work regularly raid another department's supply of Keurig coffee, as they have the industrial strength machine, which is not available to the general public (I checked). I already knew how great the coffee tasted and how easy the big machine was to use, but having one in my own kitchen is a true delight.
The B-60 is moronically simple to use and is also an attractive addition to our kitchen, with the chrome accents and blue backlit water reservoir and LCD control. What I didn't know was that you can keep the machine on 24/7 and the water stays hot and ready to brew. From the time you drop a K-Cup in the machine, you have but 40 seconds total to enjoy a cup of fine coffee. YUM!
- WORTH EVERY PENNY . . .
     By A388B6Q4ZB5LUP on 2006-02-26
Harmony abounds in our little household. My husband can have his boring French Roast and I can have my Mocha Nut Fudge, or perhaps Hazelnut Cream, or whatever else my heart desires. And I can have leaded in the morning and a cup of decaf after dinner without making a whole pot. And no pot to clean. And it works perfectly every time - just check the water, put in a K-cup and push the button. And you can have the stronger coffee in the morning if you like and then make it less strong later in the day if you prefer (as I do). This is absolutely one of the best purchases we have ever made!!!!

I like the machine much more than I expected to! After owning a Senseo I am quite surprised by how GOOD the K-Cup coffees are. The Keurig is very well constructed and works like a charm. It's really nice to have a choice of 3 brew sizes since my hubby and I prefer different coffee strengths and now we each get exactly what we want. I don't plan to ever be without a Keurig! Great machine and highly recommended.
- convenience at a price
     By A21RK24YFL6XT6 on 2006-10-17
My wife and I only drink one cup a day and we have different preferences for flavor, caffination, etc. So a single brew machine is ideal for us. We're both very pleased with the taste and convenience of the B-60. Because the cofee is brewed directly into the cup, there's no burned or "stale" taste from an automatic drip machine carafe/hotplate. There's the great convenience of just pushing a button and simple clean-up. The variety of K-cup coffees on the market easily meets our needs.
There are some drawbacks:
1- The machine is relatively noisy. Especially the "shuddering" sound of the pump.
2- The different cup size buttons (small, medium, travel) have no relationship to actual cups. I've found it takes two "small" brewing cycles to fill my medium sized cup.
3- The K-cup coffee isn't widely available in stores. I haven't seen K-cups in any supermarket. A bed&bath chain store is the only nearby retailer and they only have a limited, barely adequate selection. On-line there are many outlets and flavors but there's the added steps to find, buy, ship, wait, etc.
4- K-cup coffee is relatively expensive. Amazon has the best price (if you get free shipping). The local retailer is $8 per box (as of 10/17/2006) if you use one of their ubiquitous 20% off coupons. Several on-line venders are $10/box before shipping. (For some reason, the Green Mountain Coffee factory store -- which is my commute to work -- tops the list at $14/box. Maybe it's fresher there.)
5- It has a black, chrome industrial look that I find aesthetically unappealling.
I recommend this and similar Keurig coffee makers for those who want a convenient cup of good coffee and who don't mind some inconvenience when it comes time to buy more K-cups.
- So Far, So Good!
     By A31MKJE1B1AIB3 on 2005-12-12
We just got this machine, and so far we're loving it. It's got great controls that are clear and easy to use. Operation of the machine is straightforward. As other people have said, the machine may be one of the best made of its kind on the market--it's moving parts fit well and operate smoothly. What people haven't mentioned enough is that YOU CAN USE YOUR OWN COFFEE--you don't have to buy and use the "K Cups" they talk so much about. They're convenient, but if you have a favorite brand (Peet's for us), included with the machine is a handy "My K-Cup" insert with a little filter basket that lets you load your own favorite ground coffee. That was a big factor in our decision to go with this machine.
- Terrific Coffee, Hot and Fast, from a Beautifully Designed Machine
     By A20AZ60KW8ECZM on 2006-01-07
I hadn't planned on buying a $200 coffee maker, but despite having squandered $35 on a lesser machine (manufactured by the once-venerable "initial-ampersand-initial" company) and some dreadful supermarket coffee pods to go with it, I was hooked on the concept of single-serve: no muss, no fuss -- and terrific coffee, hot and fast. As I tried to decide how to proceed, I happened to win one of these Keurig B-60's in an on-line drawing on one of the better-known single-serve sites. The machine arrived within days, along with four large boxes of Green Mountain k-cups in various flavors, enough to invite half of our small Texas town over for coffee and have some left over.
I am VERY impressed with this machine, which is beautifully and wonderfully made. You won't be embarrassed to leave this one sitting on a marble counter in your beautiful custom kitchen. In fact, the Keurig B-60 seems to dignify its surroundings; if your kitchen's something short of custom, you'll want to design a new one around it. To sum up: great coffee, from a lovely, well made, quiet, and easy to operate machine. If only everything worked this well and looked this good....

The Special Edition Keurig B60 features:
* 48 ounce removable water reservoir
* 3 brewing sizes: 5.25,7.25, or 9.25 oz
* Removable drip tray
* Programmable, blue-backlit LCD with 24 hour digital clock and
on/off timer
* Temperature selection from 187 to 192 degree Fahrenheit
* Uses patented K-cups (measured, sealed plastic cups of gourmet
coffee or tea)
* Pours beverage in less than minute
This black and chrome machine stands at 13 inches high, 10 inches wide, and 13.25 deep. It weighs about 15 pounds when full.
Operational Instructions: Open the lid, insert K-cup, close lid, and select brewing size. Allow unit to fully dispense hot beverage in way under 60 seconds then open lid, remove K-cup, and throw cup away.
Our experience:
Hubby was introduced this delightful brewer through his work. He sung its praises for months on end. Since my experience with coffee makers was limited to the make a pot of so-so tasting Joe then throw most of it away... I couldn't relate. However, we started looking into the Keurig home brewers and checking out prices. We researched, viewed displays, bided our time and thus we were amply rewarded.
Not to upset the good folks at Amazon, I didn't purchase it here. The Bed, Bath, and Beyond store agreed to match a deal in the Linen - n - Things' ad on the Keurig Special Edition B60. They offered the machine, a My K-cup filter, an 18 K-cup box of various coffees and teas, and a box of Ghirardelli hot cocoa all for $150 before the 20% discount! (Both our local BBB and LNT have 20% off an item coupons. They accept them from either store, as many as you have as long as it equals the total items that you are purchasing, and with no adhering to the expatriation date. Love it.) So I secretly purchased it and happily returned home with the $120 surprise gift.
It was love at first cup. I could finally see what my husband had been raving about!
The Keurig is so easy to use and its beverages so enjoyable to drink. Now there isn't a drop wasted. I'm thrilled with our Keurig and the coffees and teas that it brews. I start most mornings with a mug of hot coffee and end each evening with a cup of hot, peppermint tea. It's lovely.
Yes, the Keurig and K-cups can be costly. However, when compared to the amount of money we were wasting by tossing most of our yucky tasting coffee away, its okay. Besides, with the deals you can find on Amazon and other online stores, we found the cost per serving to be as little as $.30 though the average is typically about 50 cents. I figure we're worth it and for the added convenience, it is definitely worth it.
There are tons of assorted K-cups. We enjoy both flavored and non-flavored coffee as well as herbal teas. Our most favorites:
Flavored coffee:
Timothy's World Coffee German Chocolate Cake and Timothy's World Coffee Winter Carnival
Regular coffee:
Green Mountain National Wildlife Blend and Timothy's World Coffee Spanish Sol
Decaf coffee:
Green Mountain's French Vanilla, Green Mountain's Breakfast Blend
Herbal Tea - Timothy's World Coffee Peppermint Tea, Timothy's World Coffee Lemon Blueberry Tea
There are variety boxes of coffees and teas available to try and we have bought single cups on EBay as well. Plus you can use the removable My K-cup filter for your own ground coffee, if you prefer. Hot cocoa is snap to make with the Keurig too.
Ease of use is almost laughably effortless. We keep our Keurig plugged in continuously so there is no prep time involved and hot water is always readily available. Clean up is an absolute breeze. Simply toss the K-cup away and every so often wash out the removable drip tray as needed.
It's a luxury having a fresh cup or second (or even sometimes third) of piping hot, delectable coffee or tea merely a moment away. The Keurig B60 is a blessing for entertaining. Everyone gets the warm beverage they want when they want with barely a moment's wait. Plus they can have it at their desired brewing strength.
In summary:
I confess I love the darned thing. The Keurig was much more impressive than the Senseo and Tassimo. It is super easy to use and clean. The ultimate clincher is the great tasting beverages. We have had the terrific machine for over 6 months now and it is still going strong (as is our coffee addiction).
In conclusion:
There's no muss, no fuss, no waste, no wait... the Keurig B60 is simply GREAT!
Added info: Keurig at home brewers are the Elite B40, Ultra B50, Special Edition B60, and Platinum B70. The B100 may be considered for household use. Usually they are all referred to as Keurig B40, B50, B60, B70, and B100.
- I'm in LOVE with a single-cup coffee brewer!
     By A30EXENSRKWTQ1 on 2006-03-03
I LOVE this coffee brewer! No mess to clean up and everyone can have their own favorite.
I had a Melitta one:one pod coffee brewer before this and liked the machine. But the water never seemed very hot after brewing, and the pod options were very limited. And frankly, I just didn't care for Melittas' coffee flavors.
After comparing the Tassimo and the Keurig options: available drinks (included coffees/teas/hot chocolates), brew sizes, owner reviews and product functionalities; I decided to go with the Keurig B-60 and I am not disappointed.
The machine heats the water up in under a minute. The brew cycle is less than 30 seconds for a mug of coffee. It also does an expresso size cup as well as a travel mug. The water reservoir on the side holds about a carafe's worth of water, so you don't have to fill it up between servings....something that drove me a bit nuts with the Melitta. The footprint is a bit larger than a standard coffeemaker, but it still fits nicely on my limited counter space. It's solidly constructed and the k-cup mechanism is smooth...we're talking metal parts here people!
Now for the most important feature: it brews great coffee, tea and hot chocolate! (The B-60 comes with a 18 piece variety pack to get you started...a nice bonus not mentioned in the product description!) With Green Mountain, Gloria Jeans, Timothy's, Van Houtte's, Diedrich's and now Tully's coffees available in pre-packaged k-cups, coffee has never been simplier to make or more delicious. For tea lovers, there's Timothy's, Celestial Seasonings, Bigelow's, Gloria Jean's and (new to the line-up) Twinnings. Ghirardelli even makes hot chocolate packets compatible for the Keurig! And if none of those options meet with your tastes, you can buy "My k-cup" and fill it with your own favorite ground coffee or tea blend!
So to sum it up: it brews great hot coffee, hot teas and hot chocolate; there's a great coffee/tea k-cup selection available for the Keurig; everyone can be happy and make their own favorite hot beverage; and there's no cleanup other than popping out the used k-cup.
What can be better than this?!
- Hot N Fresh N Clean
     By A2DJ2CW9M56A1O on 2006-04-01
Husband was mad I spent so much on a machine and K-cups,until he fell in love with it himself. We love the way this looks. Though it's plastic, it looks cool and solid. Priming was easy. The coffee comes out incredibly hot. Could possibly be horrible with weaker or stale K-cups, but I ordered Extra Bold type cups cheaply online and the coffee is perfect for me at the small cup size, and for him at travel mug size. So much better than pre-ground supermarket coffee from a can. We can have different flavors, even tea, without cross contamination. We never wake each other up grinding fresh coffeebeans anymore. Ideal for an office, nothing to clean up. I love being able to have a cup of decaf flavored coffee with dessert at night, and not wasting a single drop.
- The best choice...
     By AG3V1LGJW7KVV on 2006-11-17
The Keurig B60 Special Edition Gourmet Coffee brewing system is absolutely the best thing that has come down the pike yet for any hot beverage. I purchased my first one about 4 months ago for my home. I purchase a second one 3 months ago for work. I purchased my third one 2 months ago for my Sunday School class. I just purchased the forth one to give as a Christmas gift. I consider the price very reasonable compared to replacing the brewers I normally replaced due to burn out caused by lime in the water in my area. But most of all, it is so nice to have so very many possible selections of coffee to suit anyone that this brewer's coffee providers offer. My friend likes it strong as he can get it...he can, my wife likes decaf medium blend...she can, I like flavored coffees...I can enjoy probably 20 different choices. All of this and you don't have to brew a whole pot of either to get any specific person exact choice instantly. Think about that. And you can enjoy other hot beverages instantly as well, such as several cocoas, several ciders, etc. Life is good when you have economical choices. 5+ out of 5 is my opinion absolutely positively.
- I'll never go back.
     By AFQ8004GYKI45 on 2006-08-06
My husband and I both like a good cup of coffee and have always bought what we considered to be the top of the line coffee makers. I never knew what a top of the line coffee maker really was until we purchased our Keurig B-60 six months ago. The Keurig allows us the luxury of choosing different coffees without waste, I like flavored and decaf on occassions but he doesn't. It was the norm that with drip coffee makers to get a good cup of coffee you had to make more than one or two cups at a time, so I would always make at least four-six cups and end up pouring half of it out. With the K-cups you get a GREAT tasting cup of coffee one cup at the time each time.
One reason that I choose the Keurig was because it has a reusable filter cup that allows you to use ground coffee. However, with the convenience of the K-cups I rarely use the filter.
We have had nothing but a wonderful experience with our Keurig and will never go back to a drip coffee maker. The one cup concept is great for anyone that really enjoys a fresh cup of coffee evertime.
- This is the most popular version of the three Keurig coffee makers available.

If you've enjoyed drinking coffee all your life, then you deserve to own a Keurig coffee maker now. Read on, and I'll tell you how to get the best deal on buying the K-cups for this Keurig coffee maker.
I've drank coffee all my life. Even my mother use to give me coffee with milk in my bottle when I was just a baby. Back then, I was probably a stressed-out, high-strung, irrepressible shaky little bundle of nerves all through my child life. I've spoken with a few cats over the years who were going through catnip withdrawals. So, I can relate wholeheartedly.
I can't remember any day in my life that I haven't had any coffee in the morning, although I will say that I don't care to drink coffee throughout the day like some people do. I'll drink my six cups of coffee only in the morning before school or work and that will be it for me for the rest of the day. I'll know I've had enough coffee when people see me glowing in the dark when I rush out of the house early in the morning. Some mornings, I've polished off a whole pot of coffee. It's funny how caffeine has a way of altering my own personal gravitational pull as I actually feel that I ascend to flight as I run forward. I don't have to be at work till 8 AM but I still get up at around 4 AM so I can start slamming coffee. Sometimes, I may fall asleep again in front of my first cup of coffee, but when I snap out of my drowsiness, I'll gulp that cold cup down and then rush to the kitchen to make my next cup. I may slam about 4 or 5 more cups of coffee into me within the next half hour before I bolt out the door to start my day. I don't know how some people can just fly out of bed and then fly out the door to get on with their day without coffee. Of course, some people will rush out to the local Starbuck's at the corner and buy that one four dollar cup of coffee and that will be all that they need for the day. Just one cup? And at about four freakin' dollars a cup? Forget that!
Now listen up my fellow coffee lovers. This Keurig coffee maker is the greatest coffee maker I have ever experienced. It'll heat up water instantly and will having you drinking your first cup of coffee within the first minute you turn your Keurig on in the morning. It has a built in timer so that you can set it to be ready to brew your first cup the moment you approach your coffee maker if you're someone who just can't wait a whole minute for it to be ready. I've become more patient since I bought my Keurig.
Now here's what's really unique about the Keurig coffee maker. It brews one cup at a time. What you buy for coffee are called K-cups. Pre-packaged cups of various flavored coffees that you put in the machine to brew one cup of coffee. There are hundreds of different flavors of national and international coffees (caffeinated and decaffeinated), and various flavored teas, and cocoas that you buy in boxes and keep in a basket or their original boxes next to your Keurig machine.
When you buy your Keurig coffee maker, you will get an assortment of various flavored coffees and teas to sample to get you started with understanding the beauty of this great new coffee maker that you've brought into your home. But, like I said, there are hundreds of other flavored coffees designed in the K-cup format for your Keurig coffee maker. You'll get order forms and website ordering information available with your Keurig.
I've bought my Keurig at a Linen and Things department store, but there are other stores that sell the Keurig as well. I was told that you can get one at Target, but my local Target doesn't seem to have it. Anyway, at Linen and Things, they also carry only a couple of flavored K-cup coffees sold next to the Keurig. Usually, I'll see some K-cups from Green Mountain who I think is directly licensed and distributed with the Keurig coffee maker. Their K-cups sell at $9.99 per box (of 18 K-cups). So, at that price, plus California sales tax (7.75%) that works out to about 59.8 cents per cup of coffee. That's really not too bad but you can still get it cheaper if you shop smart. Even when you order these K-cups on line directly with the K-cup companies, you'll still pay about 55 cents per cup PLUS the cost of shipping, which makes each cup even more expensive.
I've learned that the best deal available is by buying my K-cups directly through Amazon. There are various sources that are selling K-cups through Amazon and still charge shipping costs, but there are a few K-cup distributors that sell K-cups at the lowest price possible, plus charge NO sales tax and offer free shipping on larger orders. Through Amazon, I see that Target sells a box of K-cups for $59.99 and that's for 108 K-cups. Even without the cost of shipping (yet to be added), that still works out to 55 cents per cup, minimum. So, Sorry Target, I think I'll pass. That is not the best deal.
I buy my K-cups at $20 for two boxes of 25 K-cups each. (50 K-cups for twenty bucks). With no sales tax and free shipping so that works out to just 40 cents per cup. Just forty cents!!! And there are many flavors available to choose from. So YOU tell me. Would your rather pay four dollars for a cup of coffee (like at Starbucks), or just 40 cents per cup? Sure, your cup may be a little smaller, but you can always have another cup, and then another cup, and then another cup, and then another cup, and then another cup, and so on and so on and so on...... How about 10 cups of coffee for four bucks, instead of just one?
You can also buy a special reusable K-cup filter so that you can still brew your own coffee from the can if you prefer. This Keurig is not just limited to manufactured K-cups.
So, check it out my fellow coffee lovers. You'll love having this Keurig in your house when you have guests. They will love having options of which flavored coffee they'd like to try, if you'll keep various flavors available. I still like trying new coffees. I generally like to stick to the more BOLD flavored coffees. Call me crazy but I enjoy a mildly bitter harsh burn in my throat when I'm drinking my coffee. "Tres Intense" (which I guess means Extra Bold) is a common term I see on the boxes of my favorite K-cup coffees. So far, my favorite K-cup comes from Van Houtte and it's called "Eclipse Blend." I've ordered about six boxes of it last month. I'm down to two boxes already so I better order some more soon. If anyone knows where you can buy K-cups cheaper than 40 cents each, please let me know in the comments option below.
I love my Keurig! If you're a coffee connoisseur like me, you'll love this machine too.
