Kuhn Rikon Twist and Chop, Artichokex$14.99
    (12 reviews)
Best Price: $22.00 $14.99
Khun Rikon's newest chopper is also compact and quiet. Pop an onion into the container then hold the top and bottom with both hands. With a few quick flicks of the wrists, your onion is reduced to a fine chop. The blades on the Twist and Chop Vegetable Chopper are double sharpened to cut in both directions so not a single motion is wasted. And for cleanup, there's no cutting board to wash, and the tool comes apart for cleaning by hand or in the dishwasher.

Reasonable Gadget for People with weak knife skills. By A20IIR0422G3A5 on 2005-08-26
One's first reaction to the Kuhn Rikon 2220 Twist and Chop Vegetable chopper is why in the world one would be willing to pay $17.50 for this little son of Vegematic! Since I was talked into buying this by my mother who was also willing to food the bill, I bought one and she was even more surprised and this little gadget's insubstantiality than I was.
The primary gimmick at work here is the gearing in the cap which magnifies your twisting motion by a factor of about three. It's main virtue over either a food processor or a mini food processor is that it is easier to clean and takes up less room. Unfortunately, it has all the disadvantages of a standard food processor in that it turns some types of vegetables, such as onions, into mush instead of a nice clean dice you can get with reasonably good knife skills.
Since I had this little darling, I thought I should at least give it a try on things for which it seems most suited. I tried it on both olives and roasted peppers from a jar and, with a bit of preliminary downsizing of the sheets of sweet pepper flesh, the little gadget did an excellent job of chopping this soft stuff for my classic southern cheddar cheese spread.
I am a little less happy with the job it did on garlic. Part of the problem is the fact that most good garlic prep requirements call for either thinly sliced or mashed, and this device does neither. It sort of mushes it into a collection of damp pieces most often about a quarter of an inch thick.
Unlike the fabled vegomatic, the problem with this device is that there is an unbridgeable gap of about 1/4 inch from the lower blade to the floor of the beaker.
As gadgets go, this one is ok, but do not feel it can replace a good sharp knife in reasonably skilled hands.
An efficient time saver By A2AWRV31UZO5KZ on 2005-09-19
I bought this little chopper about two months ago and I'm very pleased with it. I hate breaking out a cutting board and knives if all I need is a small amount of onion or garlic chopped. It does an excellent job of dicing both onion and garlic, and it's quick and easy to clean up. I have discovered one small trick -- it helps to turn it sideways and give it a little shake once or twice during processing. This works so well that my mini chopper from Kitchenaid is definitely going out in the next garage sale.
Fast and Easy Use and Cleanup By A1UJ2T7XDNOF25 on 2007-03-08
I am constantly trying new gadgets for chopping onions and garlic. THis is one of the best I have found. I'm perfectly capable of accomplishing the task with a chef knife and cutting board, but I seem to be on the search for the Holy Grail of kitchen gadgets. There are a number of criteria - quality of the chop, ease of use, cleanup, durability, convenience, etc. My big Food Processor fails the cleanup test. I keep bending the blades on my spring loaded chopper, making it difficult to reassemble.
The Twist & Chop excels in a number of areas. It gives a very nice, uniform chop with little effort. It is extremely easy to clean, just rinse it out. It is small enough that handling and storage is not an issue - I keep it right on the counter next to the knife block.
Two issues: You need to learn the correct volume to lad at one time. Too little or two much and it doesn't chop well. This is usually not an issue with onions since a single medium onion works fine. For garlic, I find that I need at least 4 cloves to make it work well. The second issue is whether the blade will hold up. So far so good and I'm hoping that because the blade doesn't contact a surface like a cutting board that it will last a long time.
Great Time Saver! By A1ZZ7JTYL7713X on 2006-06-19
The vegetable chopper has become my favorite cooking utensil! It saves me so much time in the kitchen and chops into pieces that are smaller and more consistent than I can do on my own. It has become a lifesaver, I would highly recommend purchasing one!
Not what I was expecting By A2LR3NV3UPB59F on 2007-02-20
Sure, it cuts things, but the blades don't have enough force behind them that it cuts into them and drags them around. No matter how little or how much I add to this, it doesn't cut all the way through items and sure doesn't chop. I would suggest a small food processor if you are looking at this item.
- not great

with only 2 garlic cloves, it's hardly worth it. the directions say to do a lot of cloves. defeats the purpose of buying it. how often do you do a whole head of garlic.

This I actually purchased for my sister in law since she liked mine so much. It is so good for making salads could be a bit bigger but I love it.
- Best chopper I've ever had!

My wife gave me this Twist and Chop device for Christmas this year and it does a better job than the other electric choppers and food processors I have. Besides being fast and easy, it's a snap to clean.

I love this product. I already had one, and then I purchased several to give as gifts to my nieces and nephews who are getting married. (Plus one for my brother in law who watched me chop onion in it, and then wanted to go buy one right away.) It is easy to use, and easy to clean. Even though it only chops medium-small quantities at a time, it takes less time to dump and reload the chopper than it would to do it by hand, and it gets better results if you like things chopped fine. (And no danger to fingers.)
