  • Awesome cost effective printer

    By A2G6T7LEVL0RPI on 2006-01-20
I purchased this product for Christmas from Staples as it was cheaper at the time. I am in love with this printer. It creates high quality photo's quickly. It has several great features included and does come with handy software for making adjustments either on your PC or on the printer itself.
One thing I must say however, is that the type of photo paper you are using makes a HUGE difference. Epson Premium Glossy is by far the best when used with this. It is, in all honestly, difficult to tell the difference between a digitally printed photo and a traditional film photograph.
The printer itself is very cost effective for those with a budget in mind. The only thing that is missing from the package is the much needed USB female/female cord to attach it to the pc for a direct pc print.
The unit does take several types of memory cards and has a very clean viewing screen.
On board controls are very user friendly and even has some extra nifty printing features such as sepia toning.
I really recommend this printer for those wanting an outstanding photo at an even better price!

  • Enough about the cable already!

    By A3R9KRIO25CKZV on 2006-09-01
Let's burn this into our memory for future reference. When you buy a printer, YOU DON'T GET A CABLE. This is true even if you buy a new monitor! Simply use the cable your old one hooked up with and you're set. Now let's concentrate on reviewing the item in question instead of the peripherals!

Now, about the iP6220, there are a couple of relevant things you'll need to know if your previous printer was a Canon. My trusty S600 died of printhead failure despite attempts to revive it with an alcohol soak. I noticed right away with this one that the ink cartridges are NOT interchangeble, since I still had ink that wasn't used up in the S600 that I was hoping to transfer. Looks like I'll be recycling those with ink still in them! Unfortunately, the ink cartridges that you're going to need are more expensive than the old BCI cartridges. I wouldn't even attempt to use the fake ink in this, because I used compatibles on the S600, and I believe that's what contributed to its failure. I settled on this one rather than an all-in-one because I had just bought a new Canon scanner when my printer died shortly afterwards. Also, I needed a machine with a fairly small footprint.

I save most everything to PDF and burn to disc, so I don't actually print as much as I used to, but it's nice to have a printer for recipes to take into the kitchen. Therefore, I could have gotten away with a very basic unit for my needs. But, I tend to be very brand loyal, so I got another Canon. So far, so good!

To sum up, in 2006, peripherals, such as printers and monitors, don't come with cables. If you had a printer before, swipe the cable before you toss the thing, and worry about something more important. If you decide on this one, you won't be getting a bad little printer with reasonable speed, if that's important to you, and of course, that legendary Canon picture quality.

  • Great for any budget

    By A3DJ8AYO6A6STK on 2006-05-06
This is very nice printer I must say...Prints fast, quiet, and sharp. I guess the only gripe would be no printer cable included, I mean who sells a printer without a cable?? But all u gotta get is a regular usb cable..... won't cost u anything..

  • Very Nice for the Price

    By A28B0H9UTDNAO1 on 2007-02-07
Purchased new from reseller for less than $50. Picture and text printing are outstanding. Easy to set up. LCD screen is clear and informative. Footprint is a little big and printing speed is not the fastest but great second printer for use with my laptop. I have a primary multifunction Canon which has been printing reliably for 2 years. Certainly worth the cost.

  • Canon's PIXMA iP6220D Printer

    By A29B8LH1UMKLNF on 2007-02-07
Great printer at an outstanding price. Prints great photos and other items from your computer. The negatives, costly ink cartridges and they don't last long.

  • Printers don't come with cables
    By A2GBAEFYYUFH28 on 2007-10-30
I'm only reviewing to let people know that in all the printers I have bought in the last several years, they have NEVER come with a cable. So read the box which will not list a cable in the contents. It's not very fair to rate a printer with 1 star because it didn't come with a cable, which you would have known if you'd read the box.

And I have found it is better to just go all out and buy the ink cartridges made by canon. The others do clog up your ink ports and there is pretty much no way of fixing this yourself. It's taken me 4 printers to figure this out. Now, I only buy the expensive ink made for the machines. It's more money, but I don't have to buy a new printer every year either.

I hope this helps with future printer purchases

  • A printer that does everything well
    By A2YIIM94A4MOXV on 2007-01-09
The seller advertised that this was part of a camera bundle. I received it promptly in the original box (darn, he took the camera!). It prints documents and photos with great quality and is much faster than my 4 year old HP deskjet. I was prepared to pay twice as much at a retailer for this printer but as part of a camera bundle I got a GREAT DEAL!

The color photos were as good as getting them developed at a photo shop.

  • No more canons
    By A6W9T5YNJQPAM on 2007-10-31
Bought two of these from Amazon and setup the first one ok.
Then thought i should try out the second one just in case it didnt work while still under warranty. I didn't want to waste the two ink tanks as i was only going to make sure it printed ok then put it back in the box. So i took out the cartridges from the first one to try in the second one and got an error message that the ink was empty. I then tried to put the orginal cartridges back in the original printer and again wouldnt work, Had to call canon and found out you cant take out a cartridge or try and refill it as it will reset itself and not work. Canon rep had me use the other two cartridges from the second printer and finally it worked ok. Canon is sending me out two new cartridges but i am not happy with canon anymore if i cant refill as they are very expensive and dont hold much ink anymore. NO MORE CANONS OR MAYBE ANY OTHER PRINTERS.

  • No cable
    By A398FF00Q3Q6LB on 2006-02-25
I just received the printer. In trying to set it up, I realized there is no computer to printer cable included, nor any explanation of what kind you need. You have to bail out of the setup and solve that little dilema.

This is an exceptional printer for the money. The card reader capability is a great bonus. Print quality is excellent!

  • Best bang for the buck
    By A1NCLDP6HAG37J on 2007-10-20
I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the prints, given the low price of this printer. I have no regrets over this purchase. Set up intstructions were clear and easy to follow. On screen menus are easy to follow. You can print directly from your memory card without even using a computer. All in all, I would highly recommend this product.

  • I love this printer!
    By AB8BBLBZDWAT6 on 2007-11-17
I have had 4 photo printers over the last 6 years. I have spent over $250 on each of them when the last one finally died. I didn't want to spend a lot of money on another one since we go through them so quickly. I honestly wasn't expecting much due to the cheap price. I was so wrong! I love this printer! Honestly it has better quality than any of our other printers we have owned. It prints so quickly too! I have no issues as far as noise goes either, it is very quiet. The ink cartridges seem to last a long time too! I convinced my husband we would get it because it was cheaper than buying ink cartridges and we would just sell it when they ran out and buy a color lazer printer...he's convinced now that we don't need the lazer printer!

  • Can't be beat for the dough
    By ATSKDQG3VNPK1 on 2007-10-21
At the price it's sold for on Amazon it's cheaper to buy this than your average set of cartridges, AND it's a very decent printer for "every day" household stuff. I recommend it highly. I wouldn't pay the "no cable" comments any mind, as no USB printers come with cables.

  • NICE

  • Gets the job done

This printer won't blow your mind, but it gets the job done. Nice pictures - simple and easy.

  • great photo printer
    By ADTOC3P2KG8U on 2008-03-26
I ordered this printer for my daughter and family (3 children) for Christmas - they take a lot of photos of the children and it's great to be able to print them right off the camera. It's small enough to fit and not take up a lot of space. The printer works great - and now I want one too!

  • Great Printer!
    By A2FB363V798Z4I on 2007-10-28

  • Vista Certified? what does that mean?
    By A1C7YEQ5P8AWFY on 2008-01-17
This has been another Vista nightmare,

Print spooler failure message, won't install the driver.

    No vista instructions.
