  • OK if you have low expectations

    By A2H2ZC7EC208CG on 2006-01-12
Like most people, I wanted an all-in-one to replace a stack of machines: an ancient parallel-port scanner, a nearly ancient fax that prints with thermal paper, and the free printer I got from my last PC. After using this model for a few months, I find it does much of what I want.

I like the ability to scan documents to files for achiving and the scanning of multiple pictures into seperate files.

I suppose I shouldn't complain much for a machine at this price point, but it has several drawbacks:

    (1) After running about 200 pages through the fax/scanner page feeder, my fed pages now show up with a line through them. Documentation says to clean the small scan window (which I did to no effect). Otherwise, you're out of luck. Flatbed scanning does not show the line.

    (2) Regadless of which scanner you use, the printer adds small margins to each page. If you're printing a document with no margins, it will cut off the edges.

    (3) Unlike even the cheap printers bundled with my last two PCs, this one has no wake-on-network capability (that is, since it site in my office, if it's turned off and I want to print, I have to walk over to turn it on). In fact, if something is stuck in the queue and I try to print a second document, it hangs my system.

(4)Like most HP products at the bottom of the cost curve, it feels flimsy. Every time I open the cover, it feels like it's going to fall off.

  • HP has done it again.

    By AGIUPXNIXAVJ4 on 2005-10-03
This HP printer/copier/scanner/fax machine is wonderful. We bought it to replace are other printer/scanner and it was the best upgrade that we have ever done. This machine is so quick at printing out pages, and it does not smear the ink either. Plus you can actually see it printing. Have not tried the scanner yet, but the fax works pretty good aswell. It also is not as bulky as most fax machines, it only took up half the space of my old scanner. I would definetly recommend this to anyone looking for a good inexpensive fax machine for your home or office.

  • Exactly what we wanted!

    By A2GGKJ318HO2GE on 2006-05-04
We recently purchased the HP Officejet 5610 All-in-One Printer, Copier, Scanner, Fax to replace a clapped out 7 year old inkjet and an ancient parallel port truckbed sized scanner. Getting a fax (which we needed at home) and a copier (which we really appreciate) was enough to seal the bargain.

We've been running this unit for 3 months now - wife using it for faxing workers comp documentation, medical reports and resumes (coming off a work related accident). It is the most convenient unit we could have hoped for. It prints at a speed that rivaled our worn out inkjet (we don't do a lot of large document printing), copies documents and scans with a better quality than original document input (minus chopping of margains).

We have a second printer - a Canon photo inkjet that is now relegated only to photography printing. As expensive as ink is - the HP is still cheaper for office work than the 6 Canon tanks necessary for photos.

I've read a lot of horror stories related to installation of this unit - problems we did NOT encounter. Installation went without a hitch - we disabled our computer anti-virus program and everything spun right up. First time setup (minus the fax) took under 30 minutes. Our fax problem was our own doing as we have dual phone line jacks in our computer room and plugged the fax into an inactive line.

The unit itself priced out under $[...] where we purchased it - bought extra ink tanks as part of the overall purchase. Our unit came with a USB connector from HP, clearly marked on the carton.

At this price point - we got exactly what we wanted with no surprises. Printing is not fast - especially color. Photos are best printed on our Canon. Scans are good enough - but we keep a newer purchased Canon LDE series scanner in reserve for higher quality work.

Color combo ink tank is the greatest drawback - knew that going into the purchase - more expensive to replace the 3 color tank when only one color is out of ink. We're living with it so far - and we have no regrets with any of the functions the unit performs.

  • Buyer Beware -- HP treats all sales as "Final" and "As Is"

    By A1RDHG3S9T0CP7 on 2007-04-21
The product description for this printer should have read "You are purchasing this printer 'as is' -- all sales are final. In the event of failure, HP will do absolutely nothing -- so don't bother." We purchased this printer brand new in December. The printer stopped working in April (4 months later). We called HP tech support and here's a recap of the horror story:

    * HP claimed it was the power cord
    * They sent two replacement power cords (neither fixed the problem)
    * Called HP tech support again
    * They sent us a broken, refurbished printer
    * Called HP tech support again
    * The technician said "this happens a lot" and offered to send another refurbished printer
    * We said "no" and asked to speak with the techie's supervisor
    * Got a call back next day. We told the Supervisor that we wanted this resolved after 6 calls, one week of down time, multiple shipments of wrong or broken products, etc. We told the supervisor that we would post a review on Amazon if this wasn't resolved satisfactorily (please send a new replacement printer). He said "look at our Amazon sales volume -- that won't hurt us."

HP's warranty and technical support is non-existent. If you're lucky enough to get a technician on the line, you will have a great deal of difficulty communicating with the individual. They especially have problems with serial numbers, phone numbers, and e-mail addresses (they like to drop digits and letters). We had to repeat these data points 5 or 6 times EACH phone call -- very frustrating. Also, when the calls didn't go well, we asked to speak with the techie's supervisor. Most of the time they said "I don't have a supervisor." One of the techie's had a sense of humor -- he gave us the phone number for the president of HP.

I've been a loyal (and critical) Canon customer in multiple product lines. I thought I should try an HP printer -- it was a horrible mistake. The Canon PIXMA MP530 is a top-quality, supported printer with amazing performance. Don't look at the Amazon sales volume -- read the Amazon reviews. We're not the only ones that have had problems with HP of late.

The HP 5610 does have one useful feature -- it works great as a door stop.

  • Must be me.....

    By A2OTX4X3895YXT on 2006-08-16
....I am seeing all of these glowing reviews but I had a bad experience like several of the lesser reviews here.

Bought the unit, brought it home, installed everything in a snap (software, etc., Windows XP). The problem was that the printer wouldn't eject cyan ink so all pictures came out red/yellow. Called tech support, tried to explain that no blue ink was coming out of the print head on the cartridge, but i still had to go through myriad steps because they just wouldn't believe the cartridge was bad, and the tech wasn't authorized to send a replacement cartridge. She "escalated" my problem (after about an hour on the phone with her) and told me a "case manager" would call me in 24-48 hours (yeah, my boss would accept that excuse for my late project). Of course, that was Monday, today is Wednesday, and still no call from HP. I bought a new cartridge myself, printed 12 color 8.5 x 11" pages, and the ink indicator tells me I am already low on color ink!!!!! So, that's $18 for 12 pages....do the math. At this point, I am guess the problem COULD have been the printer, but not sure that it wasn't the cartridge. In any event, spent many hours trying to get this thing to work and failed despite my best efforts. Others are raving about this machine, so perhaps I just got a bad one. But I wonder how many people have printed 12 or so full-color pages, only to find out another cartridge was already needed at that point. With the cost of HP ink cartridges being what they are, definitely consider this issue when looking at this machine. Incidentally, my last HP printer/fax worked great for 4 years, which is why I decided to go with them again. Thinking of Cannon now, or at least any printer with separate ink tanks for economy as I do a lot of full-color printing.

UPDATE: Went with the Cannon MP500, available here at Amazon (great price, too, even with shipping). THIS is the machine to get--read my review there (when I get around to it). The MP500, however, does NOT have a FAX function--otherwise very happy with it.

  • Mediocre
    By A63DRWKV8M3W0 on 2006-06-24
This is a decent printer that certainly serves it's basic purpose. Their are some things about it I find troublesome. For one thing, when printing in black ink, the printer uses ink from both the black and color cartridge. This causes the color cartridge ink to run out more quickly. When you select the "just black ink" option, it does only use the black cartridge, but the print is so faint it is virtually unreadable. And the printer won't work without a color cartridge installed.
Also printing photos requires sheet size photo paper. When I tried using small size photo paper, it would always go in or come out crooked so that I could never get the photo printed on correctly.

Generally it is a good printer with good colors and print quality. I just hate that the it is designed to manipulate the customer into purchasing unnecessary amounts of ink.
Also trying to convert from fax or scan back to copy mode is a pain and usually requires turning off the computer and printer and turning them on again. And if you cancel a print you have to do the same thing to clear and print again.

  • The Swiss Army Knife of Printers
    By A1XZNV89M2Q0PJ on 2005-12-22
Received this printer from Amazon last night and was really thrilled with its capabilities. I wanted an all-in-one unit for my office that didn't take up a lot of desk real estate . This is the third HP printer I've owned during the last 10 years or so and I knew the things were bullet proof. After researching various multiple capability printers I decided to purchase another HP. It will take you about an hour to set it up. The instructions were clear and the software loaded on my XP machine without problems, although it will place about 800 megs of programs on your computer if you go for the full install. Everything works intuitively and you will be copying, faxing, printing or scanning in just a few minutes. I was particularly impressed with the copy quality. When you copy a black and white typed letter, you will be hard pressed to see much of a difference between the original and the copy. And you can even feed the original into the machine via a paper feeder just like the expensive Xerox copiers. Most functions can be accomplished by pressing only one or two buttons but if you need more capabilities such as copy reduction or sending a scan to your e-mail or to Microsoft Word, they can be activated through the menu system. The unit is quieter than my previous HP 842C and prints faster. It's made in China and my experience with Chinese electronics has been poor at best. I hope the HP quality I've come to expect has been retained.

  • BEWARE: Labels & Business Card Printing on HP 5610
    By A3LC37I7IFYO5F on 2006-08-18
BEWARE. This printer has one MAJOR design flaw: The print rollers slip on special paper such as Business Cards or any kind of labels. HP has 2 "Workarounds" but for it but neither fixes the problem. They only address the slippage at the top of the page but do not address the constant slippage throughout the rest of the page. I bought 2 of these printers for my business but can't print my business cards, mailing labels, or any other labels. BTW, very poor client service; once I mentioned the "workarounds" not working they stop responding. Selling printers on Ebay. BEWARE

  • Good quality for the money
    By A36S41QZNMM4YN on 2006-09-14
What I like best is the (relatively) small footprint and light weight. It is easy to move the machine around and to get into the back when I need to do so.

Very good color print resolution. The fax and scan and copy features work fine.

I had resisted all-in-ones, concerned about too much activity jammed into a small space, but there is no sacrifice in quality for my amateur purposes.

CAUTION: The machine gives you a warning (a beep and a blinking light and an on-screeen message) about low ink in the cartridge waaaaay too early. The first time I believed them and immediately replaced the cartridge. The next time I kept printing and printing and printing... a long time, and the quality continued to be swell. I suggest ignoring warnings and carrying on until the quality of the output itself gives you the message.

  • Good for printing books
    By A1LWOA6WIP1CFX on 2006-11-29
This printer can print back to front. This is invaluable in saving time if you're printing a novel. It shows you clearly how to reposition the pages to print the second side.

Also, you can save ink by going to File-Print-preferences and changing the ink quality to Fastdraft or Fastnormal. You can still read it. I've already printed about three-hundred or more pages with some color with their sample cartridges and have gotten no warnings for low ink. (And this is with their sample cartridges included in the item). You can also print this in a book form where it's shrunk to fit to half the page in landscape form. I finally got my low ink warning and continued to print.

I didn't need to purchase a USB because it worked with my old printer's cable. I also got a USB extender and was able to move the printer further away from my computer. (I have a one-year-old who broke my last printer.)

The reason I purchased HP was because I couldn't find ink for Dell's printers and when I ordered the ink online the DHL people wouldn't bring it both times.

Another item is that the scanning feature is easy to use. I have so far printed CD covers, 119 page novels (three of them on fastdraft), and I've scanned. I also used the document feeder and it crumpled the paper. So be careful when putting the paper flat.

Okay, it's not kosher but I set the fax to answer the phone after three rings (you can set it from 2-6 rings if you set it to answer automatically) and I screen my calls that way. Unwanted callers get the fax. Did I mention it rings and has caller I.D? It does! It's freaking awesome! So if you get a call from someone you don't want to talk to at that moment you can just let the phone ring and it will give the fax screeeee... (you won't hear it. It's quiet.) If you do want the call pick it up before the machine rings the set number of times that you set.

Also, I bought this item listed as Free Super Saver Shipping. The other 5610 does not offer that. Don't order that one. The ink for this item is 22, 56 and I believe 58 for photos.[...]

I would buy the HP product again. It is lightweight, small and cute.

Oh, and there are very good instructions to set it up. I set it up in a few minutes. The software installing took a long time but I did the complete setup.

When you take it out of the box there is a paper (English and one Spanish) that tell you how to set it up. It's very simple!

  • HP 5610 - could be the best low end all-in-one value for HP
    By A240M3IVP8HR0L on 2006-03-28
Was 12 hours in the store, looking at various machines, before I got this one. I returned 6 machines. Two were HP 1410, real dogs, both broke down. No frills, but does what it does well and economically.

Was looking for a copier to make nice B&W copies, especially of books, where I could leave the cover open in a dimly lit room and I would get a white border around the copied object, thereby saving lots of ink. The HP 5610 did this as well or better than any model/brand. Epson ink vapor gave me headaches and the brother ink cleaning-system seemed worrisome because I have gone weeks without copying.

The 5610 may be the only new HP that still uses the legacy #56 and #58 cartridges for B&W and photo color (although it does use the new 5 ml #22 for plain color) - I hope this printer is a big success, so HP will be compelled to continue using older economical cartridges for new machines. The 5610 seems to be a maverick from HP's new business model which is obviously "the cheaper the machine, the more expensive the ink $ per ml."

No problems. The 5610 makes perfect copies, extremely fast in fast mode. The feeder is OK, even with cheap, newsprint-type paper. The setup defaults to "actual size," which cuts off 3/4 inch of what you copy at the bottom, but you can change the default to "fit to page" and that will shrink your copy a tiny bit, hardly noticeable, but will definitely capture the entire original, while giving you about a 1/2" white border all around. It did come out of the box with a strong plastic reek from within, which was remedied by swapping it for the store shelf demo, which had "gassed out" over time.

At first the software would not install, but when I disabled the resident shield of my virus checker, it installed smoothly. HP seems ignorant of this solution, in literature and customer support. I had to figure it out myself.

  • An Exercise in Unlimited Frustration
    By A7Y3PI2OG17JL on 2006-04-06
What a nightmare. I'm going to declare it a national holiday when I return this item.

Do a Google search online before you buy this item. You will see endless calls for help over missing drivers, challenges with installing software using XP, etc. I have considerable computer experience. Yet after I bought this All-in-One unit last weekend I spent 14 hours on the phone w/HP tech support and endless hours trying fixes of my own. They all gave me a different story. Then turned me over to the laptop division of HP saying it must be a problem w/my laptop. The laptop division, SURPRISE, sent me back to the printer division. I've tried all the 'fixes', ordered a new installation disk, reintalled software many times, new USB cable. Nadda. Still junk. Save yourself the frustration. I am keeping my old 'print only' printer. It's plug and play. If you have Windows XP Professional, this unit will NOT necessarily be 'Plug and Play.' Time to go give my old reliable printer a hug. The software, by the way, is a complete memory hog and takes forever to install.

  • Buyer Beware!
    By A6FZS4G439MG4 on 2007-04-18
My rating is for Hewlett Packard.

Although HP wants you to buy the HP 27 replacement cartridge, the 5610 also accepts the older 56 black cartridge. The 56 contains 19ml of black ink @$20.(on sale at Target occasionally $15) The 'recommended' 27 has 10ml @$18. No wonder buyers are running out of ink so fast.

HP customer service said 27 has 'improved' technology. Sorry. Black is black.

  • Not Good with a MAC
    By A2KAIUWS22AY8O on 2006-09-18
I thought the actual print quality was very good, but that's not why I bought this unit. I need to be able to scan directly to my word processing program and this machine cannot do that. Despite what it says on the box about OCR capabilities, and ability to work with Mac OS X, it NO LONGER includes the OCR software with the machine. There is a READIRIS software registration form included in the packaging, but according to the HP Tech line they don't offer it any longer. The software would cost an additional $129 online, or $129 plus tax/shipping etc. I returned the machine.

  • HP Has a New Racket. Why Fix It When They Can Get You To Pay For A New One?
    By A14BBRDSJBVG0X on 2007-03-27
HP is running a racket. If you have an issue and call their support line, they tell you that "this is a problem that will probably continue to occur in the future" and then they recommend that you therefore replace your device with a newer, more expensive unit (which they'll give you a "discount" on if you buy directly from them).

After declining this "sales pitch" I went to their website support and found that the problem was merely a driver that had somehow gotten uninstalled and needs to be re-installed.

    No more HP for me.

  • Major Disappointment
    By AB9ABU6EFXN0L on 2005-12-27
I was excited to buy this all-in-one printer after I read the reviews of this product. Well, needless to say, after many hours on the phone with HP's customer support, we could not get it to receive faxes. If you have a digital answering machine and distinctive rings on your phone, don't bother buying this machine. IT WILL NOT WORK! Also, the scanner portion doesn't do as good a job as my old HP stand-alone scanner that's 10 yrs. old. Too bad HP couldn't come up with a fix for the faxing part. I ended up returning this machine. HP told me to buy the Model #7410 for $450 if I wanted to receive faxes. What's up with that?

  • Very good all-in-one for average home user!
    By A3GS7OZXUEW48R on 2006-10-08
I bought this printer for use at home. We are average (and environmentally friendly) users who print just a few pages per day and several photographs a month (4x6 and 8x10) since we have a toddler. This machine is used mostly for scanning and printing; and occasionally for fax.

Printer: As any HP inkjet printer that I have had, this is awesome. The quality of documents is as good as if not superior than any regular inkjet printer. The quality also depends on the paper quality that you use. I've used officemax/depot/hp inkjet papers with good effect. The print quality is good and the printer does not use much ink at all. A 10 ml catridge last for a long time. For printing photographs, we use HP premium photo paper which dries very quickly. The print quality is comparable to lab prints. I havent used the photo color catridge, but heard that it is good. The color catridge may not last very long if you print a large number of photographs.

Scanner: It is flat bed meaning you can scan anything like a small receipt to thick card board. The scanner quality is very good as well. The software is friendly unlike some all in ones. It allows you to set the resolution, size, area etc. You can scan to software of choice - even by programming one touch. It may not scan photographs very nicely, but for great for documents. One useful feature is saving documents as searchable pdf files.

Copier: I dont do much direct copying - I scan and save the documents and print them if required. I tried copying just once and you might guess, the inkjet copying takes time since inkjets print slower than lasers / copiers.

Fax: The best feature I like about fax is the ability to forward faxes. That will help keep away junk faxes - I have an alternate fax number which receives fax as pdf files. I can simply delete them. I have checked to see if I can receive fax as pdf file in this machine. I'll post when I check that. (Ichecked it, but cannot receive fax as pdf file unfortunately)

For both scanning and faxing you can use the sheet feeder which is very convenient.

The only reason I gave 4 stars is the seemingly flimsy top cover. It cannot press down even a little thick document.

  • Horrible experience -- really ZERO stars!
    By A1JE5UZ4S352NV on 2006-03-04
Following the installation instructions to the letter, when I got to the step of plugging in the USB cable, it tripped that electrical circuit (i.e., the lights on that circuit went out). After I reset the circuit breaker, the machine wouldn't turn on. Called HP tech support (got India), the woman decided I needed a replacement unit -- which, I was told, would be a refurbished machine rather than new, but she said that was the only option. I insisted they send me a replacement power adapter also, since there was no way to know whether the problem was with the machine or the power adapter.

Got the replacement machine and power adapter. First tried the replacement power adapter with the original machine, and the same thing happened -- plugging in the USB cable tripped the circuit. Reset the circuit breaker, then tried the replacement power adapter with the replacement machine -- this time I got a a loud POP and a shower of sparks when plugging in the USB cable! Both the cable and the USB socket on the back of the machine burned out.

Called HP tech support again, and this time the rep claimed I must have a short in my computer's USB port -- except while I was on the phone with him, I took a spare USB cable and plugged it into my old printer (an Epson) -- no problem.

So, I told HP I wanted to return both machines and get my money back (it was too late to get a refund from Amazon). They consented. Supposedly I'll get my refund in about 10 days.

Meanwhile, I ordered an Epson all-in-one (the CX5800F) for a few dollars less, (...), and it uses individual ink tanks, which I much prefer. Installation was perfect, no tripped circuits, no sparks, and the machine works like a charm. No more HP for me!!

I bought the 5610 to replace old and separate printer, scanner, and (film) fax unit and it has worked flawlessly. Automatic document feeder works very well, and the printing and scanning are both very good and reasonably fast. Faxing and copying are very simple to use without the computer being on. Versatile unit at a good price. Only wish so far would be for a backlight on the LCD display.

  • You get what you pay for!

Ordered this machine impulsively when my old HP T45 began to sound like a machine version of the 'death rattle.' It was a amistake. Poor scanning, slow printing, ink eating and- overall - a truly inferior product. I returned it and bought a Canon Pixma MP530 for about $60 more and am VERY pleased with it. I believe that HPs heyday as the premiere maker of domestic printers and multi-function machines is over.
Don't do what I did - Home work first, THEN purchase!

  • Excellent three in one for its price range
    By A3RUZVIJI0LW03 on 2006-11-15
Obviously, there are far better printers on the market. But if you're looking for a quality 3-in-one in the $100 to $150 range, this one seems to be at the top of the pack.

There are nicer printers out there in this price range. However, you will be severely penalized when it comes to purchasing ink. Hewlett-Packard printers tend to be the most friendly when it comes to buying refilled cartridges or refilling your own cartridges.

It prints fast, it prints well, and I enjoy the double-sided printing feature. This printer has been consistently rated by users as being accurate in its color prints, although I've done little color printing myself.

The scans are not the greatest as they leave small artifacts at regular intervals when you zoom in in Photoshop. The artifact is a vertical line which bisects the picture and offsets each side by a few pixels. They're not really noticeable to the naked eye and you won't see them unless you're editing the picture and have blown it up considerably. Still, it's probably not the best for archiving your photos. (I expect there's a bur on the plastic gear that rolls down the rack & pinion)

However, flaws are to be expected in this price range and the listed flaws of this printer are nominal.

Given my research two months ago, and performance I've encountered after purchasing this printer, and the ease with which I was able to refill the ink cartridges; I'd say this is the best printer you can buy for $100,(as of Nov 2006) if you don't want to be extorted into paying exorbitant ink prices, for say, an Epson.

  • Nice printer but HP sticks it to you in ink cartridges
    By A2215VX6LXBCE5 on 2007-02-28
The HP 5610 is a more than capable multifunction machine that performs everything with ease. Printing, even color pictures on good paper, faxing and copying all work just fine.

My issue is with the shortsighted and one could criminal decision by HP to force consumers to purchase the smaller #22 color cartridge rather than the larger (in terms of amount of ink) #57 cartridge. Your costs for printing in color will be much larger than you expect. Avoid this product until HP treats customers with some respect.

This little ol' lady set up the HP 5610 to her Mac with no problems. Easy and am pleased with the results.

  • "i can't believe we have this."
    By ABER4AMAS4DIR on 2006-04-21
wow. i have recently purchased this printer, not from amazon, but from my local Sam's Club. my mother uses coupons at our local grocery store, and can find coupons online. when we print them, it's unbelievable. every time, we cant help but to say, "wow, that's amazing." this printer is great. it has a copier, faxer, and scanner on it, and of course, the printing feature. it has an extendable tray to hold paper, and it is very easily accessible. sometimes i am on the computer, and my mother will copy coupons without effecting what i am doing, like right now for example. quoting my mother, "i can't believe we have this." truly unbelivable printer. if you need a printer, i highly highly recommend this.

  • Great Price and Vista Compatible
    By A2H7RTBE6EYD4V on 2007-10-03
This is an excellent multi-function printer for under $120! I am more than satisfied with the performance and functions. Before going on, please read the following:

Some important notes prior to purchasing the HP Officejet 5610

    Note 1: Prior to purchasing this printer, one should remember that the USB connection cable is not included. This must be purchased separately;

Note 2: Vista users should not download the included software that comes with this product. Instead, one should go to--www.hp.com and download the specific Vista software from online. Installation of the online Vista software should be done first (before hooking up the multi-function printer).

Note 3: This printer is not for high speed printing use. Print times for me has been approximately 10-12 pages per minute. Despite the slow performance, the quality of print is excellent.

Now that the important advisory notes are completed, I will go on with the actual review:

The Vista Software: The download and installation of the Vista Software was very easy and took approximately 28 minutes for online download and installation.

The Set-up: Very easy to set-up right out of the box. Set up and connections were completed in less than 4 minutes. This also included cartridge alignment.

The registration: Registration online was completed in less than 5 minutes utilizing broadband access.

The Fax function: Very Simple and easy to use. When connecting the existing telephone with the fax function, one should set their answering machine to pick up after 4 rings. This action enables telephone answering machine functions and fax functions to operate concurrently.

The Copy function: One touch copy function very easy.

The Scan function: From computer operation, or one-touch printer function, it is very easy to use. Depending on the quality needed, the scan function may take anywhere between 12 to 45 seconds to scan.

The Print function: Awesomely simple with good quality. Photos are stunningly high quality with the use of photo ink cartridges (HP 58 photo cartridge).

Overall performance: Terrific! This printer is easier to set up and use than any other printers I have worked with (I have used canon, lexmark, dell, epson). For what it does and for how it performs, this printer is worth a lot more money! Definitely two thumbs up on this one! Hewlett-Packard really "hit the bullseye."

  • all in one

Found this printer, scanner and fax easy to set up. We don't have a computer. Like the quality of the printing. Was a little suprised that you can only use white paper. Have sent fax without any difficulty and had never faxed before.

  • Does everything.

Have had the HP 5610 AIO printer for about 2 weeks. Standard shipping from Amazon and it arrived in 2 days, WOW. I am totally impressed with it. I have tried all the features (copy, print, scan & fax) without any problems. It is easily shared through the PC to other home network PCs and performs standalone just as well. I'm no expert but the printed pictures look great to me. So far very pleased with my HP 5610.

  • Junk product, expensive ink
    By A1GNZ0J7JSMUGM on 2006-12-16
This terrible printer, was my third and fourth from HP on their pay-us-money-to-fix-your-stuff plan. I finally "upgraded" to another $400 HP model and after it failed, it now resides in the bottom of the local dumpster. I've had it with HP forever, as apparently have scores of CNET reviewers.

I won't support HP's pay-as-you-go "service plan because none of their items work as advertised. These aren't printers, they're shredders. A close friend had the same difficulty. I'm back to my pair of reliable Brother printers...

This unit was the first "upgrade" HP shipped me on my nickle after a previous HP failed. All three models and all five units either shreded paper, chronically failed software installations, or dropped networking.

Never again, HP; go back to wiretapping, apparently you know how to do that even if you don't know how to build a printer, stand behind it, provide comprehensible "tech support", or write a working piece of software.

As a business owner I depend on my hardware -- my classic HP 5L laser was unstoppable. But something's changed at HP...

Love it, love it, love it. No problems whatsoever. My daughter set the whole thing up in minutes. No problems with the fax, copier or scanner.
