For making gravies and sauces, this separator helps you save the flavor, straining out greasy fat. To use, pour liquid into the separator. Fat rises to the top, while leaner parts settle to the bottom. The heat-resistant strainer catches unwanted food bits, and the stopper prevents fat from entering the spout when you pour liquid back into your pot to finish cooking. A shield stops fat from spilling over the top of the separator. Measurement markings add convenience, and the nonslip handle provides a comfortable grip. Holds two cups.

For anyone who is trying to cut back on their fat intake - - but still enjoys the juices from their roasts, etc., THIS is the ticket. It truly does separate the fat from the meat juices so that you can have the tasty gravy without all that unhealthy fat.

I really cannot find any fault with this item. It does exactly what it says it does and is very easy to use. OXO is one of my favorite kitchen gadget companies, so you can't go wrong there.
The only recommendation I would make is that I wish I had purchased the 4 cup model. The 2 cup unit fills up faster than I had envisioned and when you get to the point of being full it is easy to create spillage because it starts seeping into the top part. When you pour it can be a problem if you have filled it all the way up. I'd like to have some comfort room so when I get my time machine, I will go back and purchase the 4 cup one instead! :)
Very Disappointed With This Item

Perhaps I'm dense but I cannot figure out how the strainer plug works. Without the plug (and even with it) the fat gets into the spout, and if the fat doesn't come out the spout on pouring, it comes out thru the top.
