Best Price: $29.99 $28.20
PD+Rescue™ for iPod® by TastyBytes Software, Inc. is the missing link between your computer and your iPod® or iPhone™. Although the iPod has revolutionized the way we listen to music it has one major drawback: once songs are put on your iPod or iPhone they cannot be taken off. Not only does PD+Rescue™ help you retrieve your music and videos from your iPod it also helps to insure that you don’t lose it all in the process. PD+Rescue™ will detect all iPods set to “Automatic Update Mode” and give you the chance to change it before iTunes erases all your media. Features include: • Works with all iPod models • iPhone Support (NEW) • Force iPod Manual Update Mode (NEW) • Block iTunes/iPod update (NEW) • Display songs not in iTunes. Requires additional software to fully work By A3NEAETOSXDBOM on 2006-12-03
This product is easy to use and works as advertised to backup your ipod. So why did I give it only 3 stars? Because a major disclosure is lacking.
One of the reasons for buying this software is to move music on an ipod used with computer #1 (like a home computer) to computer #2(like a work computer). Suppose computer #1 is a Mac, and computer #2 is a PC. Can you
use this software to backup your music on the Mac onto the PC? Yes--but only if you purchase additional software that lets Windows recognize Mac files. Tastybites suggests MacDrive 6, which works fine (it lists for $50, but is $25 on Amazon).
But when I bought PD+Rescue, I had no idea that I would have to buy more software for getting music from a Mac to a PC--not because I didn't know that Windows cannot recognize Mac files, but because I thought that PD+Rescue was designed to deal with that problem. It isn't, which I found annoying since transferring songs from a Mac to a PC is not something unexpected.
Now for some positive news. Although PD+Rescue is not designed to permit two ipods to exchange music, it makes it possible. Yes, there is special software to do this (e.g Ipod 2 Ipod), but if you don't want to spend yet more money on software, here is how to do it using PD+Rescue. For this example, assume ipod #1 syncs on a Mac and ipod #2 syncs on a PC, and that only the PC is available(e.g. you bring both ipods to work). NOTE: Both ipods MUST be in manual mode before you start.
1. Plug ipod #1 into PC.
2. Select songs from ipod #1 you want to put on ipod #2.
3. Create a folder on an external hard drive or the desktop labelled "Songs from Ipod #1". Use PD+Rescue to backup the selected songs to this folder. Unplug ipod #1 from PC.
4. Open iTunes on PC. Go to File, Add Folder to Library, and choose "Songs from Ipod #1." This will load those songs into iTunes.
5. Plug in ipod #2 and change from manual mode to auto sync, which will install all the newly added songs onto ipod #2.
6. When done, change ipod #2 back to manual mode, go to PD+Rescue and backup all of the songs.
7. After doing backup, select songs from ipod #2 that you want to put onto ipod #1, create folder "Songs from ipod #2", and use PD+Rescue to backup selected songs to this folder.
8. Unplug ipod #2 from PC, plug in ipod #1, and copy the folder "Songs from ipod #2" onto it (or onto a cd or usb stick).
9. When the Mac is available, plug in ipod #1, move the folder "Songs from ipod #1 onto an external hard drive or the desktop(or use the folder if on a cd or usb stick)and follow same procedures discussed above.
At first glance this may sound complicated, but it really isn't.
Overall I am pleased at what PD+Rescue enables me to do. I just wish they had made clear the need for additional software when dealing with transfers between Macs and PCs.
Great insurance policy By ADSMFGJJYUKN4 on 2006-02-26
I have a 30 gig ipod that is full of music. It took countless hours to burn all my Cd's and transfer the files to my player. I have very little room on my PCs hard drive, so after transferring the files I had to delete them from my PC. I recently bought an external hard drive and with this product it was very quick and easy to back up my ipod to my new hard drive. I can now rest easy knowing that I will never need to burn all my Cd's ever again. Great Product!
Fair and Balanced Reporting By A226ETWX5DUXSW on 2006-05-03
I can't change the number of stars, but after corresponding with Tastybytes' prompt and nearly courteous tech support, I will shift the blame to Amazon.
Amazon is not providing the full list of requirements, so I will provide them here (for Windows):
- Windows 2000 or XP
- Latest service packs recommended.
- 500MHz Pentium of better
- 128MB RAM (256 recommended)
- A working connection to an iPod
- iPod software v1.2 or higher
- Quicktime v6.5.2 or higher
- iTunes v4.7 or higher
- Not required per se (and not on the box), but Tastybytes support recommends USB 2.0.
Slick! By A1DWLPJ7VUWPUG on 2006-02-14
VERY solid product with a very intuitive user interface. I didn't even need to read the instructions. I have lost my files more than once and now those worries are behind me. Highly recommended.
My computer crashed, but I was resuced! By A21NC8C4X9XJRD on 2005-10-14
I bought this program "just in case". Well, thank god I did!!!!!! When my computer crashed I lost EVERYTHING. This program helped me get everything I needed to get from my ipod. It's easy to install and very user friendly (which is very important to me). It's the most incredible program ever!
- A lifesaver!!
     By AL2RNQEO224LU on 2006-02-14
This program totally saved me. I listen to music and have audio files of my client's projects, so I needed a secure backup system. This worked perfectly and it's easy to use, even for a technophobe like me.
- Fantastic Product!
     By A2DBH1MVQK3ZS8 on 2006-02-15
When I bought my new iBook I bought this product to transfer all my songs over and it was flawless. It took no time at all to install and transfer. Highly recommended!

What a great software experience - very user friendly product with intelligent, helpful tech support - no getting swamped by technology.
- Excellent!
     By AJGNDQ5DJZ9CR on 2007-07-19
This software was excellent and very easy to use. I had all of my music in iTunes, but then my computer crashed, so I lost all of it. Then when I installed this software, I was able to transfer all of my music from the iPod back into the computer, as a backup. Highly recommended for anyone who buys an iPod!
- It worked--and that's enough!
     By A2LQEM2VC1297U on 2007-08-08
I just got a new laptop (PC) and I wanted to get all my music on there. I have about 3600 songs, so needless to say I wasn't going to deal with creating my whole library again. I had the music on my desktop (PC) and my iPod. At first I tried TuneTransfer, seeing as it's the cheapest of these types of softwares, but of course it didn't work. I think it has about a 50% success rate, because my friend says her copy of it worked great for the same purpose. Anyway, after that unsuccessful venture, I purchased this wonderful software. It tells you exactly what to do, and how to do it. I am very pleased. It even transferred about a dozen movies from my iPod video to my laptop. It does what it says it will do, quickly and efficiently. Good design.
- Pretty much does what it claims to
     By A2QZ36LCF7XX0C on 2007-03-21
What can I say it worked. The user interface was slightly confusing but not really that bad. ;)
- I've tried them all...this is the best
     By AWB4TFPGQYJGV on 2006-02-14
I've tried most, if not all of the competing products. This one is by far the most reliable and easiest to use. In fact, it's the only one of these products that hasn't caused me to lose anything, EVER. Highly recommended.
- It's Fine
     By A4QEXLYCI0JRJ on 2007-10-10
It's a good program for backing up the music on your iPod; however, it may not be the best for illicit music sharers as it doesn't specify which songs are not already stored on your hard-drive, necessitating the arduous scroll and individual transfer from iPod to computer, checking overlaps all the while on your library. TuneTools was a good program for that, but it stopped working after I updated iTunes.
- Worked but be Careful
     By A3ICVCGOK98K3V on 2008-02-26
My hard drive crashed including my iTunes library, so I purchased this product to transfer the songs from my iPod to another computer. I was able to get the songs to the iTunes library on the other computer, BUT, none of the songs would transfer back onto the iPOD because the songs "were not authorized purchases on the new computer". (Yes, I authorized the iPOD on the computer but that made no difference.) Long story short, be careful, the software does what it says, but that may not solve your problem.
- Works Perfect
     By A3850OF0783BZ9 on 2008-03-05
My computer crashed and all my son's songs where on his Ipod with no backup. He (age 18) intalled this program and was able to get all his songs off the IPOD back onto the new computer (Windows) without a hitch. Worked perfect and was easy.
- It works!!
     By A2VUIPVW0SLPW0 on 2008-03-14
My computer crashed and I lost all of my songs in my itunes playlist. I was afraid to connect my ipod to my computer for fear of itunes "syncing" it with an empty playlist and wiping out my ipod. After doing some research, I decided to try this product. IT WORKS!! It automaticaly blocks itunes from syncing and reads what is on your ipod. Then, you simply click "add to itunes" and it transfers all the content to your itunes account. I have over 8,000 songs and the process took about an hour. It even transfered all my movies, videos, and playlists. It also makes backing up your ipod very easy. I would recommend this product to anyone who has an ipod!
- WELL WORTH THE MONEY
     By A7FP7SAW8J0QU on 2008-03-14
THE PRODUCT WORKED JUST AS IT CLAIMED. I WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND IT. IT WAS A LIITLE CONFUSING IN THE BEGGINING BUT ONCE YOU GET THE HANG OF IT IT'S A BREEZE.
- Saved the day

When my daughter's hard disk failed in her computer she was most concerned about losing all the music from her IPOD. PD+Rescue was easy to use and recovered all the music in her IPOD. She was thrilled.
- Depressed again.
     By A2UBNGK7POBEPH on 2008-06-22
I bought this item after reading all the glowing reviews. It arrived today. As someone else had said in the midst of all the terrific reviews, the instructions were difficult to follow. After working some time at understanding them, I went for it - and lost 5,500 songs in my ipod. The only thing I can think of where I went wrong is that perhaps I did not hold the Command-Option keys down long enough to disable the automatic syncing process. Thought I had, but who knows. Unfortunately, that's now water under the bridge. After months of depression from having originally lost the songs in my iMac, and rising expectations from buying this program, I'm back to depression once again. One suggestion: I recommend the instructions be re-written by - and for - someone who is not particularly proficient in the computer field. It's a one-time deal, and I just ran into the consequences of what happens when something goes wrong.
- Ipod to pc

Great product. Its very easy to understand and manage. Just connect your ipod choose the songs you want to transfer/back up and click the copy button. That easy. I used it on windows vista and it worked perfect.
- Easy to use and excellent customer/technical service

Customer service is very responsive via email. The product is very easy to use. I would highly recommend it!
- Recovered my lost songs!
     By A221UTC0EYWWKC on 2008-03-02
This product works great for recovering lost songs. I got a virus on my computer and had to replace the hard drive, so of course I lost I-Tunes. This product recovered my songs from my I-Pod in 30 seconds, but what the product does not tell you is you have to copy the songs to your hard drive first, then import those files to I-Tunes. Simply clicking the "add to I-Tunes" button does not work. You also have to play with the product, because it does not come with instructions, so if you are not computer savy, do not buy this product.
- Saved My Music Files!
     By A230UKWVMKSPXD on 2008-06-28
The program worked perfectly. My old computer crashed with all my saved files. This enabled me to pull the music off the ipod and put it onto the new computer--and then I could upload onto my new ipod.
- for those who have not backed up
     By A1FLOXH6VIF9HY on 2008-06-30
Totally easy! It would have been perfect if all the playcount etc. could have been saved too, but I'm just happy to not have to reload all my music from cd's and also that I didn't loose the ones I hadn't backed up yet.
- Great product!
     By A160CIFI62ZHZA on 2008-07-09
I thought I had all my iPod music files backed up. then Windows Vista crashed and I had to reintall it. Nasty surprise: I had not backed up the music files. I tried a couple of freebie online software programs that purported to copy the files from the iPod back to the computer hard drive, but they didn't work. So I purchased PD+Rescue. It was a snap! I especially loved the ability to clone the playlists that I had set up. What a lot of work saved!
- It works.

Pod Rescue worked like a charm. We did not lose our iTunes after our computer crashed. What a relief!!

- My Poor Son . . . Lollipop . . . popped
     By A7HL5O6FKN392 on 2008-08-11
My poor son who didn't listen to me when I told him to backup his ipod songs. BANG! Hard drive crashes. No more Itunes. No more Lollipop(s).
After years listening to the same old songs including lollipop, he finally popped. Did he take the initiative to find a solution. NO. Too lazy. Daddy-O had to do the work for him.
This software I hope will work. If not, he will have to dish out more $$$$$ to find his solution.
- LOVE THIS PRODUCT

This product allowed me to download my most valued songs from my Ipod onto my computer.
