  • Works Great...Once you get it set up.

    By A1XEPZRTTMJ71H on 2006-08-17
I bought this item as a way to keep rabbits out of rose bushes. I was skeptical when I bought it, but thought I would try it.

Took us a while to fine tune the motion sensor and the sprayer. We have it by our front porch, and didn't want to spray ourselves as we walked to the front door!

We've had it set up for over a month, and as far as I can tell, the rabbits haven't gotten close to the roses!

Word of caution: If the spray range is set too narrow, the sprinker tends to get stuck and doesn't move back and forth. Setting the spray range wider seems to correct the problem.

  • Works - Expensive, but worth it

    By A2H8NP7I9LF6O8 on 2007-08-15
I laid sod down in my yard this summer only to wake up mornings and find peices of it lifted up and strewn across the yard. I was mystified but soon found out that we have roving raccoons in the neighborhood.

I tried staying up nights in hopes of catching them and scaring them off, but the raccoons are smarter than me and can concentrate their mischief elsewhere until I go to sleep and them return with a vengeance. Having met them in my yard they are unafraid of people because there is no way I am as fast as they are, and I really don't want to hurt them, or to get bit by them either. The raccoons will climb the fence just out of the range of the hose until you are gone and then come right back.

The answer was the Havahart Spray Away. This thing was expensive, but after several sleepless weeks and a lawn that wouldn't take root, I plunked down the cash and bought one.

No more lawn problems, I have not even seen a raccoon lately. I hear the thing going off occassionally, and it scared the neighbors, and sprays me at times ... but it is a nice, automated, fast and permanent solution to my raccoon problem. My only other solution would have been to buy a high powered pellet-gun.

I am sold on this product, in fact I had to get two since they started to come around the back yard after the got scared of the front yard.

The big question to me was whether this thing would work or be a big disappointing waste of money - but it definitely works. I have to thank the makers because staying up all night like a maniac in hopes of scaring a racoon off personally once or twice will drive you crazy with lack of sleep!

  • Just what I asked for....

    By A2TCLL68RNEP9Q on 2007-05-07
Finally I have a way to keep the pesky squirrels out of our fruit trees and vegetable garden. Easy setup and very sensitive. Random spray drives them away. Also very humane, no traps, no poisons, no mess. Even keeping most birds away!

  • Havahart Spray Away Motion Sprinkler

    By A21QYCR7568UMZ on 2007-01-09
When I eventually got it working to "defend against cats" it worked Well ...however the top adjustments are too delicate and one of the units broke almost imediately ...(as I live in new Zealand it's too much mucking around to send it back to the USA)
But the one remaining unit is great...

  • A little too sensitive

    By AV5WZPC1C84KL on 2007-06-15
Haven't seen any cats in my backyard since setting up this motion sprinkler and that is a good thing. However, it does tend to go off for no apparent reason.

  • Not worth the money
    By A1FODE665RQ6P on 2007-09-18
I purchased this unit to scare the deer. It worked for about 2 weeks, then worked only a little for another 3 days, then Stopped entirely.
A lot of money for 2 weeks worth of ??????

  • NOT WORTH THE MONEY
    By A85TAAB3U7VUT on 2008-01-17
I purchased this to deter cats, so far I have gotten the mailman and UPS driver, it will not sense a small animal, you cannot lower it less than the stake or angle it down or it will not work at all.If you want to get people or cows then this is for you.

  • Not up to snuff
    By AK7ABIFXMAA9B on 2008-03-15
Bought it to aid against jack rabbits eating flowers in the lawn. Never stopped the rabbits, but did spray the neighbor a couple of times. That's why I rated it a 3 star.

  • Works great
    By A3E8KIZ79FGRIZ on 2008-05-13
I have had mine for a year now. I decided to review after seeing all of the negative reviews here since mine works very well. Once you get the sensitivity and spray pattern set there were no issues at all. The cats stay out of my garden and the racoons away from the pond. Battery life is about 4 months if it's used a lot. The only negative is that on windy days swaying branches set it off.

  • Kids love it, animals hate it
    By A2V1CGO1WP6EU4 on 2007-07-09
Bought the motion sprinkler to keep deer and rabbits out of my vegetable garden. So far, so good. Has chased out our dog and cat as well. Had to play with the sensitivity knob to keep it from continually going off. Needed to soften the ground to insert the plastic spike. Good area coverage. Kids find it fascinating!

  • This product really works
    By A3KXG3X1BJAXFG on 2008-03-15
It goes through batteries fast, but it does work. I like the fact the sensitivity can be set in varying degrees. We put ours on a hose to try it out, and to find which spot it works most efficiently before hooking it up directly to our water supply. I think the company may find that making this product a bit more sturdier would be a good thing, even if we had to pay $5 or so extra.

  • Excellent Product
    By A1UIF1IL9W7SX6 on 2008-06-12
This product is pretty good in that it can be set to different sensitivity. It does keep all types of animals out of my garden without harm to them - which I particularly like.

The only problem I have come across is that the top of the nozzle gets loose and starts too drip water. Tightening needs to be done often to ensure there is no wasted water.

    Otherwise, awesome product.

  • Works great!

After reading some of these reviews, I was uncertain if I would be happy with this product, but my deer/dog problem was ruining my yard. I ordered 2.

These are plastic units, which is why I give them 4 stars. The hose connections should be brass, in my opinion. Hence, all the leaking complaints on the reviews for these sprayers. Fortunately, I was able to circumvent these leaks by changing out the provided rubber hose washers, using Teflon putty on all of the threads and by attaching a "quick release" type of attachment (from Lowes) to the hose attachment threads - this way I won't strip the plastic threads on the sprayer whenever I switch hoses for the sprayer. Just an easy click and the sprayer is in a new location. Now the unit has no leaks at all, inspite of being connected to the hose all day and night.

The motion detector works fine (note: it does have a "delay" between firings to prevent continued firings, so expect this). The sprayer portion is just like a lawn waterer, which can be adjusted in terms of range of fire and in terms of the width of the spray pattern.

This year my day lillies were not devoured by the deer and the neighborhood dogs have had to change their daily bathroom patterns.

  • THIS THING WAS EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED
    By A38PM5NOC2EXST on 2008-10-23
I had a new neighbor in our typical residential neighborhood- houses 20 feet away from each other- who decided his 2 large dogs should be able to roam free----- and they decided my pristine yard was a great place to leave 3 or 4 lb piles of feces on....daily. I now have this set up and it works perfectly- the neighborhood kids think its a hoot too-
Five big stars- works perfecly for my needs-

  • Havahart Spray Away Notion Sprinkler
    By AK1IACPO0M4EH on 2007-06-09
The sprinkler system is the best thing I have found to keep Deer out of my gradens. We have used many other products from spray to noise makers and this one works the best.

  • expensive trash
    By A2WHX7B3DM8SHJ on 2008-04-13
It worked once, when we first hooked it up. Then, once we positioned it, it hasn't functioned since.

  • This is GREAT!!

I installed the repellant to protect my fish pond. It works wonderfully!! No raccoons have had fish dinner at my house since I installed it!!

  • Works fine, but has a narrow "view"
    By A8FD74BMFX4SR on 2008-07-10
I bought two of these just over a week ago. At the maximum sensitivity setting it will spray water to you if you walk 30+ feet away, so that is a positive. However, at maxmium sensivity one or the other will go off (every 1/2 hour or so) without any obvious trigger. I will look out at its coverage area in the morning and the ground is slightly damp (which is fine for my purposes, since I'm trying to get grass to sprout). I haven't had it long enough to know the effect on battery life. I'm also suspicious of the effect of cottonwood "fluff" in the air, falling leaves, or rain. I do know that if water from a sprinkler falls within the detection range, the motion detector will go off (at max setting).
I had just tilled and grass seeded an area about 35' by 50' and there are lots of deer which pass through my yard (I've seen 14 at one time). I should have put the motion sprinklers in place a couple days before seeding and raking, as it seems to take a day or two for the deer to start avoiding the seeded area. Because I put the sprinklers in after seeding there are a number of deep hoofprints in the ground, but I don't think there are any new ones lately.
Notice: The detection range (a fan shaped area maybe 90 degrees wide) allows deer to wander up behind or beside the sprinkler, get detected when they enter the detection zone, then bolt when the sprinkler goes off. I suspect a number of the deep hoof prints in my newly seeded area are a result of deer wandering onto the seeded area from behind the sprinkler, then digging in their hoofs when running away after they entered the detection zone. The sprinkler covers 180 degrees or more (like any pulse sprinkler), but the detection zone isn't that wide so you would have to have a number of sprinklers to overlap detection zones to keep deer from "sneaking up" behind a sprinkler.
In any case, I haven't seen any deer anywhere in my yard for the last week, when I usually see at least one a day, so they appear to be avoiding my whole yard entirely now.
Note to Havahart: Since the sprinkler is about 2 feet off the ground so it covers a big area, how about having a setting where you can just water the ground like any other sprinkler, then reset it to "detect mode" after watering.

  • Great tool!
    By AYC7ND4M77M3N on 2008-07-22
It took a few tries to get this adjusted just right but I got it now! Boy the cats are perplexed and staying out of my garden! The only drawback is forgetting it is there and walking into the trap myself!

  • Spray Away works, but has some drawbacks
    By A2DXU3ZNXB9YNR on 2008-09-16
The motion activated Spray Away has been helpful in keeping deer out of my flower beds. If you have a large area to protect as I do, the sensor angle is too narrow to protect more than a small area. The battery does not last very long. I leave the system on during the day, but turn the water off. Even so, I've had to replace the battery in about a month of usage. The range is decent, about 25 feet max. Overall, the product is worth it to keep the deer from destroying nearly every living green thing in your yard or garden.

  • It's simple and it works
    By A1ZS99NSRKD8NK on 2008-10-22
Deer around my home continually ate the leaves down to nothing on my two small hibiscus trees. With this water spray, it is noisy enough and sensitive enough to really work. In two weeks both trees now have good size leaves. I do not understand anyone not being able to figure out how to set this, it is simple enough for a 5th grader to do.

  • Even good on small dogs!
    By A32VS2TGC3RYXO on 2008-06-18
My dogs love to charge the fence to bark at the neighbor's dog. We just moved in and don't want to get off on the wrong foot...so, I bought this fun little toy. Day one, immediate results! The corner where the dogs used to frequent is now protected with a barrier of water. It went off once or twice and that was enough to learn. The other good benefit out of this is it waters my grass! A definite must.

  • motion sprayer from china
    By ALVRG2ABEXRXU on 2008-06-28
The product came in assembled wrong. It sprayed all the time. I had to disassemble it and change the valve spring assemble position on the electric valve piston.

  • deer zapper
    By A1SA5U8GEODKWB on 2008-07-21
When this is setup reasonably this seems to do a good job of keeping deer away. The smaller criters really don't care, raccoons are probably smart enough to turn it off if they care and turn it back on after so you won't know. The sensor is wind sensitive so if you set it too high, it will be triggering all the time on windy days. It would be nice if it had a toggle switch to turn it on and off so the setting could be left in one place. Better would be a button to turn it off for 1 hour so you could work in the area and not have to worry about turning it back on.

  • Havahart Spray Away
    By A171U5YP8BKSGC on 2008-08-27
Not at all worth the money. I would not recommend this product at all. Two units were ordered, and only one sort of worked for a little while. Not impressed with this product and the very high cost for what it is is outrageous.
