  • So far, so good

    By ABONDSP10LOJ2 on 2007-02-11

    ******UPDATE******
Well a little more than 2 months after I got the card, it happened. Went to go listen to my music and nothing would play. Tried formatting a bunch of times, but any files I put on the card get corrupted. I really dont understand what would cause a card to suddenly stop working, but it has. Anyway, I probably wont even bother contacting the store in which I got it or Transcend. But if for some reason I actually get a replacement or get this card to start working again, I'll put up another update. And as everybody should know, Amazon does not allow you to modify the star-rating, but obviously I would bump this down if I could.

(What follows is the orginal review I wrote on 2/11/07)
I had been watching this card since October '06 when it was $90. At the time there were only a handful of reviews and all bad. I bought the card in january when it went down to $55 (from Themstore), and so far it has been working flawlessly. The three main concerns people had about the card (which caused me to hesitate) were compatability, stability, and speed.

COMPATIBILITY- This card works in all three of my devices that I use it with: My Dell Inspiron 6000 with a built-in SD card reader, my Dell Axim x50, and my Canon PowerShot SD 450. It worked well with all three devices immediately. They all correctly read its size, and were able to read/write to it with no problems. I then formatted the card in my comp, and the final free storage space is about 3.83 GB.

STABILITY - I have been using the card for a couple of weeks with absolutely no problem, but I will definitely update the review if that changes at anytime. But for now, everything is perfect. I only mention this because at the time of the purchase, the top review was a one star stating that the card was unreliable.

SPEED - taking pictures on my camera is fast and easy. I also own a 1GB Lexar Media SD card and a 1GB SanDisk SD Card. The Lexar and Transcend cards seemed to work a little faster in the camera (noticeable when recording movies). My main purpose for the Transcend 4GB Card is for my Dell Axim for Music, Movies, and general data storage. I am able to acess everything instantaneously.

I also conducted a couple of file transfer tests for anyone that is interested. This was after I transferred 1.8 GB to the card from my computer (once again, using its built-in card reader), and it took about 15 minutes. I had other programs running at the time, but I was still curious. First I downloaded a 400MB file to each one of the three cards, and then uploaded the file back to my computer from each. Writing information to a card will always be slower than reading information off of it. Downloading = Writing. Uploading = Reading.

    Lexar: Download - 2:24 Upload - :55

    SaDisk: Download - 2:36 Upload - 1:01

    Transcend: Download - 3:03 Upload - 1:16

As you can see the Transcend Card was a little slower. However, after these tests, I was able to download a 311MB AVI file onto the Transcend Card in only 1:44, so it does vary. It is also worth noting that the Transcend uses the FAT32 file sharing system while the other two cards are FAT. FAT32 is used in storage devices that are over 1 GB and up to 30GB. I am not sure if there is any speed difference between the two systems, but wanted to point this out.

CONCLUSION - the Transcend showed to be a little slower when transfering large files. This is not a factor if you are only moving a couple of mb's which only take a few seconds, but its a noticeable difference when moving a GB or two. However, the fact that this card holds 4GB and is fast for everyday use is all I care about. Overall, I am very happy with the Transcend 4GB SD Card. And unless this review has been updated, feel free to assume that I still am.

  • Very unreliable product

    By A2WUYJJ7NPQ5H4 on 2006-10-04
I've had one of these for three months. It regularly would lose files and at times became totally corrupted. Transcend support will not replace the obviously defective card so I tossed it aside.

I am now using a PQI 4gb card that has none of the unreliability the Transcend card did.

  • Does NOT Adhere to the SDHC standard

    By A1URG32QVBC9U1 on 2006-11-24
While the card works on some (if not most) devices I have seen reviews of, I must say that it does NOT work on the Panasonic Lumix FX50 or the FX01 (the ones I have tried). So I would use caution with this card if you can't find a review that specifically states this card works with your device. I've bought a Panasonic card that specifically states on the card that it is SDHC compliant (and it works). At the time of writing the Panasonic card is $60 more expensive that this one, but it works.

The card does not adhere to the SDHC standard and therefore might not work in some devices (such as my Panasonic :S Anyone wanna buy an 4GB SD card btw?)

  • Unreliable SD Card

    By A1PX3UEFZHTY6G on 2006-10-08
I have to agree with the previous negative reviewer. I've had the card for about 2 months. At first I was thrilled with the capacity, but one day it just stopped working. Now it will not work with any of my devices or my computer. Tech support admitted that the card is only supported by about 10-20% of the items currently on the market that use SD cards, and that it can operate inconsistently or fail when used in electronics that do not support this new technology. I wish they had disclosed that upfront, since upwards of 80% of the electronics currently on the market are apparently incompatible. The company said they would replace the card, but that I might have the same problem again. I think that this is a great idea (4GB) whose time has not quite arrived.

  • 4 GB Memory Card (SD) For My Digital Camera

    By A2TSOV5RQW3ZO1 on 2006-08-29
With 8Mega pixels point & shoot camera, can take up to 1200 pictures. Took already 400 pictures with no problem. Excellent product

  • 4GB Transcend works great on a D80 Nikon
    By A15P4N2BAB8CZJ on 2006-11-07
This card was shipped with my Nikon D80 warranty. I've shot in JPG + NEF combination with no problem. I reformat the card on every load. I'd buy it again especially at $95

  • Stay away from this company
    By AWL1DCVMV59M8 on 2007-02-17

TheMemStore is a bunch of liars. Stay away from them.

  • Works fine
    By A4PPX0ATHKK3K on 2007-01-19
I have been using this card since Dec 06 - works fine - have been able to record video (640x480) at 30 fps on my Canon 800IS without problems - once I press the stop-record button it does not take more than a second to complete writing to the sd card, even for a 12 minute video which occupied 1.3GB

  • Product great but STAY AWAY FROM THE MEMSTORE
    By A293JNTY9ZGKH0 on 2007-02-18
Bought one of these Transcend 150x SD cards elsewhere and happy with it, ordered two more at a good price through Amazon from Thememstore. After about 5 hours they cancelled the order saying their "service was breached" and prices were changed. But of course I could resubmit the order for a price about 80% higher, thank you very much. Whether you believe them about the "breach" or not (I'm in the latter category) is academic- would you trust your credit card number to them? Well, they have mine now, if I have any issues they and Amazon will be the 2nd to know...

  • Great card for Treo 700wx
    By A14XHCO44SHNUX on 2007-05-12
I just purchased the Treo 700wx and although the manual says 2GB limit on storage cards, I was able to get this card to work. When you first insert the card, a message will appear throughout the day stating that a card was inserted and if you want the card to be searched. All you have to do to fix this is to put some files on the card (I put about 200MB+ worth of podcasts) and now it no longer asks me to search the card randomly throughout the day. You will notice when you go to Settings --> System tab --> Memory --> Storage Card tab that the memory will incorrectly display as a negative number until you start to store files on the card.

  • to all who have problems with none support
    By A1Y3GM3164KFFC on 2006-10-23
This card is great but make sure you check your owners manual or contact the manufacture of the device you are planning to use to make sure its compatible with your device.

  • Cero compatibilidad :(
    By A13SO603VHG8IV on 2006-12-08

  • Not what I expected
    By AKALL1LQJSWNJ on 2007-02-26
Ok so I can take the blame for not checking that my digital camera and palm device do NOT support a 4Gig card.. BUT the fact that the "security" notch moves itself to lock whenever I push the SD into a device is pathetic design. I've actually had to place a small piece of tape to prevent this from happening. If it sounds too good to be true...

  • Works like a charm

  • So far so good....
    By AVOVJJ6EF5UJQ on 2007-03-31
I have had the card for a few weeks and it is functioning well. I used this 4GB 150x card to replace a 1GB 50x card for my digital camera (Canon a620). I can't say that this card is any faster than the 1GB, but the speed wasn't terribly important to me. I needed the space, and I got it with this card. For the price I do not think you can beat it.

  • Fast Card
    By A29Y85LOFTA02O on 2007-04-14
Card lived up to the hype! Very fast! Please BE SURE you know you MUST have a SDHC compatible card reader for this card (of course you can load pics via the camera cable instead). MOST multi card readers are NOT SDHC even if it in a NEW PC so make sure. I got a SDHC card reader for under $25 and it reads all. Great large capacity card. Perfect for 10 Megapixel Cameras or even in your GPS! Go for it!

  • Transcend High-Speed Secure Digital Card (150x) - 4GB
    By ACBYRARB15WL7 on 2007-05-13
this SD card works great and it has a life-time guarantee
    and it's very fast - it's great -

  • Not compatible
    By AX2Q2SCT0071G on 2007-06-20
This card was recommended as an accessory for a Panasonic TZ3 camera on Amazon. It is not compatible as the Panasonic requires SDHC compliance. Testing with a Nikon Coolpix camera, it allows writes, not reads, a big problem. Check carefully before selecting this product for a photo application!

  • SD card 4g
    By A28CWL59UGW65E on 2007-07-03
the card seems fine but was marketed as being suitable for the new panasonic lumix. It Is NOT. it works fine in my old pentax optio but not the Lumix!!!!!

  • Really Fast!!
    By A2P4OLP4YLDI0H on 2007-01-06
This is a great SD card, I'm using it on a Canon Cybershot 900 with 10mp an can also record high quality video as smooth as a video cam.
    Great product!

  • A happy marriage for Canon S3 IS
    By A37V7AMCAEOB5C on 2007-02-11
Just got it in the mail today from Thememstore. Appears to work fine with my Canon S3 IS. Promises to shoot 3000+ shots. No lag after shooting a continuous burst of 20 pics. No lag after full-res video clips. Works fine with iPhoto on my Apple too.

  • A great little piece of technology
    By A2GJVFJ80ESVS7 on 2007-02-11
I purchased teh Transcent 4GB High Speed SD card for use in my Cingular Treo 680 cell phone/PDA. I use the SD card to store pictures, MP3s, videos, documents and have been really impressed at the speed/smooth data transfer between my 680 and SD card. I have used another smaller SD card from another well-known company and this card seems to perform much better with almost no lags - as compaired to frequent lags and longer waiting times with my other card. In Short, I highly recommend this card, at least for use in a Treo 680 PDA/cell phone.

  • Holds 1450 pictures on my 6 Megapixel camera
    By A247O94RR73D90 on 2007-02-19
In this case size does matter! I shoot approximately 300 pictures a month with this camera so I can keep 5 months worth of shots available for viewing while killing time sitting in a waiting room. This card does not work in my Lexmar media card reader so I have to download the pictures to my computer via the Camera. My camera is a Canon SD630, some older models my not be able to address 4 GB of memory so it is best to try one before you buy.

  • Great Product ...Great Price
    By A2L1IBA1LKDZS7 on 2007-03-08
I can not say enough about Amazon, if you shop wisely you can save a lot of $$$. This card is great. I use it in a 10 meg Canon and it is fast and so far reliable.

  • Works just as advertised
    By A1IK4WRHHU3VLO on 2007-03-09
This is working just as advertised. I have been using it for the last month to hold 4gb worth of music and have been using it daily. No problems so far.

  • lots of space
    By A39XF4201GNCCD on 2007-03-26
Great little card - lots of space to keep music, documents, applications and even backups. Great to transfer files between computers too.

  • Compatible with Panasonic FZ5K camera & Palm TX
    By AQ3THKWYIHGPH on 2007-04-17
I bought this with the idea of video for graduation videos with Panasonic FZ5K camera and viewing with the Palm TX pda. Works great on both.

  • not good for replacement for a regular SD cards
    By A146ARSMWDDIX7 on 2007-05-19
work fine as a storage device with any card reader/computers but not all digital gadgets take it.
