Better than stock antenna By A1JZJT6JGSZE7W on 2006-04-17
I use this product on a Garmin GPS60CS. Before hand, I would get okay signal on any given day. And navigating by it in the truck was difficult because of lost signals. Once I hooked up this GA 25MCX to the GPS, WOW. I have never had sooo many and so high recepction before, EVER!. I almost had all 12 sats. @ full strength. And the plug is easy to use, just push it in and go. And just pull it out for removal, no tiny screw to mess with. The wire is slim and long (9ft), easy enough to hide away behing trim pieces. If you travel with a mobile GPS from Garmin, I highly recommend this product.
Pathetic Performance. Get the Gilsson instead. By A26OTAW7VHBJ42 on 2007-08-02
I ordered one of these Garmin 25MCX external GPS antennas thinking it was an adequate but less-expensive version of the Garmin GA27C. But the performance of the 25MCX was so bad that I thought it was defective. "Bad" in this context means that all four of the Garmin GPS units that I tried with it took way too long to acquire a fix and the GPS unit very easily lost its connections to the satellites. The 25MCX was essentially useless. I assume that the 25MCX must provide a very weak signal to the GPS compared to the Garmin GA27C and the "Gilsson High Performance active remote external" products.
More information: I tested the 25MCX with two different Garmin eMaps, a Garmin StreetPilot 2610, and a Garmin StreetPilot 2720. All with the same pathetic results: Way too long to acquire, way to frequent satellite disconnects. Amazon replaced the 1st 25MCX for me. But the 2nd one was no different. So Amazon replaced it, too. The 3rd one was just like the others. So, I returned it and replaced it with the Garmin-compatible Gilsson High Performance active remote external GPS Antenna. I currently own 3 of the Gilssons and over the years have owned 5 Gilssons. Perfect! And inexpensive. If you *must* have a Garmin, don't waste your money on the 25MCX. Get the Garmin GA27C. I owned one of these as well and used it with my eMap for sailing on Lake Superior. It works as well as the Gilsson. But, as of 8/3/07, the cost of the Garmin GA27C was $100 and the cost of the Gilsson High Performance active remote external GPS Antenna was $20. And their performance is equal.
Works well --- for a while -- Beware lousy warranty By A3UO195ZCOA59U on 2007-07-04
I got this for my GPSmap 60csx and my wife's Quest (Mark I). We wanted to be able to locate the units someplace safer (for the occupants) than on the dash when we were in the car. We were also experiencing loss of lock when driving in some forested locations (the Quest mainly).
The antenna seems to improve reception even compared to the GPS units in the same location, and is a lot better when you locate the antenna someplace where the reception is better and/or the GPS units could not fit or be seen. I always kept the antenna inside the car - on the dash, or on sunroof shade. But the magnet seemed adequate to mount of the body of the car. Problem I had with that concept is that the wire has to be bought into the car through an open window or something, and I did not need to do it, so I never tried.
The only downside is that the connector (which is a coaxial type) seems to be a bit fragile for the application. It was very snug and hard to insert/remove and after a dozen or so inserts/removes the inner conductor became sufficiently misaligned that it damaged the connector on the GPS unit, and the external antenna stopped working. I believe that it gets power from the wire as well as sending signals. The GPS switched automatically to its internal antenna so this was not immediately apparent. I will shortly be seeing how Garmin's warranty process works.
Edited:
Warranty process for the antenna is this: Garmin does not do repairs, and refers you to the place you purchased it from to "see if they can do anything for you." Amazon.com's return policy is only for 30 days (in original packaging) otherwise they refer you to the manufacturer. I have had this for 6 weeks so I am out of luck. Buyer Beware, I guess. My recommendation, buy it if you really need it but buy it from a bricks and mortar store that has an interest in keeping you as a customer if the product turns out to be defective.
Edited again:
I sent in my GPSMap 60CSx (its external antenna connector failed when the external antenna's connector failed) for repair under its warranty. I got back someone else's Rino 110. Now, given that a Rino 110 costs 1/2 as much as a GPS Map, and has a very different feature set (including a walkie-talkie and the ability to communicate with other Rino's - but I don't own any, but no route finding) it is useless in my application. So, not only will the antenna take out itself, it can take out your GPS too, and the warranty service for that sucks as well. I'd steer clear of this antenna/manfacturer unless you absolutely need it.
Edit X3:
Garmin eventually replaced the GOS unit that was lost, and the antenna. But I would still stick with someone who is interested in keeping you as a customer. I'd also be concerned that the plug is still a weak spot in an essential place.
External Antenna for Garmin GPS By ALBXZDQWPBL52 on 2007-01-10
Using a Garmin/West Marine 76 series GPS in my car or motor home was difficult due to satelite blockage by the vehicles' metal bodies. Using this antenna improved reception and accuracy by a large factor. I've used it for several thousand miles so far with good result, but am not ready to declare it's reliability.
Gate way to the road! By A2ZTKXV5ANYFQO on 2007-01-20
I love my Garman, and using the Antenna alowes you to have the device off of the dash bord and still be connected. I bought 5 for my friends that have Garman GPS, and 2 out of 3 have loved them. one has not tried it yet, and one not impressed.
- Increased reception 100%!
     By AV5M8YU41JCBG on 2007-03-08
This antenna has been great. I live in Arlington, VA in an area of tall buildings and before I purchased this antenna my StreetPilot c330 would take up to 5 minutes to connect and then drop the signal intermittently. With this antenna, the unit takes generally under a minute to connect and rarely loses a signal, and even when it does lose a signal, it picks it up again very quickly. Highly recommended.
- Works nicely
     By A2MAUT2UVXPVAR on 2007-05-10
I needed to install our Garmin C330 GPS in the middle of a minivan. Without the antenna, the GPS was barely able to pull in a signal. With this antenna installed the signal is strong and Garmin never misses a beat. Interestingly, I mounted the antenna near the windshield inside the car. I didn't even mount it outside. Good product. Great service from Adorama.
- 25 MCX Antenna Does the Trick !!!
     By A1W28IELVFZ6XI on 2007-07-24
My Garmin c330 operated awful in my old Buick Roadmaster wagon with the unit taking sometimes up to 15-18 minutes to acquire the satellites and then lost them very often during any given trip. The GPS was useless to me. The addition of this antenna totally solved my problem. The acquisition of the satellites is very fast and I haven't lost them during any trip. I highly recommend this antenna.
- Works just fine.
     By A3ID3Z8D4EN114 on 2007-11-06
Nothing much to say here. I use this in conjunction with a Garmin iQ3600, and it just works. The magnet base is strong enough, the cable long, and the antenna is small. The reception is much better when using this antenna. The price is low, compared to what you find in stores.
- works best with an unobstructed view of sky
     By AHIRIFRY1SATF on 2007-12-02
Antenna works as advertised but still requires unobstructed view of sky, connection to palm is VERY hard to remove.
- BIG BOOSTER IN PERFORMANCE
     By A27B3ND9AOZ1S2 on 2006-04-14
For my Garmin Streetpilot 7200, which I could not or did not want to mount on the dashboard of my vehicle, this antenna gave me a tremendous boost in being able to pick up plenty of satelites with great strength, without even putting the magnetic part outside my vehile. Just plugging it into the back of the gps unit was able to get me from "scanning for satelites" to "ready to navigate". And the attaching wire it comes with is thin enough to fish around and squeeze into tight places. I highly suggest trying this if you don't have perfect reception beforehand.
- Cause reception to be worse
     By A1OQCGKL9GCL0 on 2007-06-08
This item does not work very well. I have better reception when I use the internal antenna.
- Cheap and practical
     By A41GNFH6J6FMT on 2007-06-11
I did use my Garmin in Europe without antenna, The signal lost once passing through mountains.., However with Garmin 25 MCX Antenna that problem vanished.
It really worth to buy for driving on Alps.
- No More Lost Satellite Reception
     By A18A4AMMJ5KV7T on 2007-06-20
My new auto must have something in the windshield to reduce satellite signals. Thinking I may have had an issue with the GPS, Garmin suggested I reset the GPS to factory settings. I did per their instructions but no change. I looked up this remote antenna and purchased it. No more lost satellite reception. Satellite acquisition is very fast. Tracking has never been better and all announced instructions from the GPS has been right on the money.
- Antenna improves reception
     By A7LZJHFLT0YJH on 2007-07-03
I got this to use with my Street Pilot 2610. If made a significant difference in the speed with which the GPS synchronized with the satellites and the signal was always robust after it had acquired the satellites, i.e. no dropped signals.
- Works well
     By A3QB3HJBSBA5LB on 2007-04-10
used it on an RV from California to Utah and back, had to place it on top of the front fender because of the overhang over the cab, it stayed there the whole time and has more than enough cable to reach the unit.

Works like a charm! Solved out problem of no reception in our minivan due to the funky shaped front glass!
- Don't Waster Your Money
     By A2YX0C2JG0DFEE on 2007-09-21
The length was to short. It will not reach to the back of the trunk. I'm not going to throw it out my window and on top of the roof becaus then you can not close the window.. Waste of money. Poor design.
- Stop losing reception
     By A225VZN5U6GA6U on 2007-10-22
I use my Garmin GPSMAP 76cs for business everyday. I cannot tell you how frustrating it is to lose reception on the way to a customer's location. It had become all too common that I would not have reception or lose reception, or even better yet, have the GPS tell that I was all of the sudden over 1000 miles away from my location.
Those days are a thing of the past. Upon turning the GPS on, it usually finds 11-12 satellites will full signal strength within 60-90 seconds. Even in very overcast conditions or bad weather, I have yet to lose the signal. It will hold 5-6 satellites with varying strengths in bad conditions. I highly recommend this antenna.
The antenna has a strong enough magnet that it made it through the car wash when I forgot it was outside the vehicle. Having a GPS is an amazing convenience, having one that always works is just terrific! Thanks Garmin & Amazon!
- Fantastic Antenna
     By A28EU5KNZTQ2I8 on 2007-12-08
I always had trouble getting good reception in our van with my Garmin 76 GPS. As soon as I plugged this antenna in and slapped it on the roof of the car, the signal bars went to maximum.
- Useless garbage, get gilsson instead !!
     By A2QHASR3LUQX3H on 2007-12-19
This antenna is garbage. I bought it over the gilsson because of the garmin name & because I didn't want to spend $99 for the other more expensive antenna that garmin sells.
I will give it 0 stars of I could! Get the gilsson for abt 25 shipped. I finally trashed this & got gilsson instead. The gilsson maintains perfect satellite signal on my old streetpilot 2610, even under tree cover & tall buildings.
Just my $.02...
- working out great
     By A2364OZ2401MKA on 2008-02-09
Before I purchase the 25 MCX Antenna my street pilot would take a while before finding the required signal to start the navigation process and in some case I would even get to my destination and the unit still didn't find a signal. However, since I add the antenna I am now getting full signal strength immediately as the unit is turned on. The only problem I had was that at first I was using the antenna inside the vehicle and I would loose signal even in areas I would normally have signal without the antenna, but once I mount the antenna outside that solved that problem. I have a 08 Camry and found out from the Toyota dealers that the type of windshield that's on my car is the cause for that issue.
- It's ok.
     By A1Y72WJ3JDDWUG on 2008-02-25
This external antenna certainly helped me with my Garmin i2 model, which has been discontinued by Garmin. The GPS I have fails to acquire satellite whenever it is cloudy, under bridges, or in downtowns with high rise buildings like in Chicago downtown. But, when I had this connected, it didn't lose the satellite. The satellite acquisition also was faster when I had this connected to my i2.
- Garmin GPS external Antenna
     By A2ZOHLYO4OO56V on 2008-04-07
I purchased the garmin external antenna as a means of keeping my gps safe and dry in my pocket, while still maintaining a strong signal during hikes and the like.
When I first got the unit I connected it up and it worked fine. When I tried to disconnect the unit from the back of my GPS, it broke. Amazon is in the process of replacing the antenna, and I hope it was a defective model as opposed to a bad design.
Amazon also gave me a purchase credit for the cost of shipping as I was shipping from Canada, and they pay free shipping in the US only. I was very pleased with the service. Let's hope that the new antenna's conenctor will work better than the old one.

- Garmin 25 MCX Antenna for GPS and iQue 3600
     By A1164E85MNW6IK on 2008-05-05
I'm 100% + + satisfied with my new Garmin 25 MCX Antenna! Five stars. It's performance, coupled to my Garmin iQue 3600, was flawless. As my ultimate test, now that Continental Airlines allows passengers to use a GPS inside the cabin during flights, I took my new Garmin 25 MCX on vacation in April 2008. This is why I purchased the 25 MCX. After take off, as soon as the flight attendant announced that passengers may use electronic devices I started. After connecting the antenna cable to my iQue 3600, I tucked the antenna head up under the pull-down window shade, between the shade and the window, to hold it in place. The dome side of the antenna faced out the window. Everything worked perfectly! I was so pleased. During my 3,200 flying miles on this vacation I usually had connectivity with six to eight satellites at any time. I've been flying up to 100,000 miles or more annually on business for 17 years. I've often wondered where I was between points A and B and the name of even the smallest town below me. On this trip I knew everything I wanted to know at all times. I've also used the 25 MCX in town since my vacation with the same high performance satisfaction. I strongly recommend the Garmin 25 MCX Antenna!
