Dogz gives you a chance to raise a great puppy, without having to walk them or change those newspapers. Watch as they grow, play, and learn together -- reward them for good behavior, but make sure they stay in line. Make sure take good care of them, because they'll run away if they feel neglected. • Don't get too attached to your pet.....

    By A2X9AXCWH4MT4I on 2006-11-26
As a parent I was very troubled to learn that the dog in DOGZ "dies" after a mere 3 weeks. This totally put me off of this game. We borrowed the game from a friend to give it a try and although the game itself was fun for my kids, having them train the dog and have it "die" on them was just disturbing and plain sad. So after trying out DOGZ and being rather disappointed with it we went out and purchased POCKET DOGS instead. The gameplay and graphics there is closer to Nintendogs for Nintendo DS and my kids love it. Plus it has the added benefit of being able to keep the dog without a set time limit.

My advice is to borrow or rent (if you can) "Dogz" but if you want a keeper then go for "Pocket Dogs."

  • Repetitive but fun alternative to Nintendogs

    By A1H4587XKC7AMX on 2005-12-07
If, like me, you don't have a Gameboy DS and don't foresee getting one soon, and were disappointed that Nintendogs isn't being offered in an GBA version, you may just enjoy Dogz. The graphics between the two don't really compare, and Dogz is a different concept, but it gives you 18 choices of breeds to choose, and it's a petcare simulation that can be fun and addictive.

Your character in the game is a 3rd grader, and your Mom and Dad have decided to let you have your own puppy. You go to the petstore and choose a pet - the choices offered are based on 3 questions you answer at the beginning of the game, as far as what gender of dog you like, what size, and how energetic you like your dog to be. Once you get your new puppy home, your job then becomes to see how well you can care for and train your dog for the next three weeks.

The graphics are simple, comparable to the Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town GBA game. The text is easy to read but repetitive, and much of the action during the game is repeating things in order to help your puppy "learn." You teach the dog to sit, stay, respond to its name - and not to poop on its bed!

Overall, this game is very easy. Older players (I'm 28!) might find this game TOO easy and annoying; it can be completed with one day of continuous gameplay, actually. Younger players will enjoy its simplistic goals and graphics. Like I said in the title, this could be a fun alternative to the Nintendogs phenomenon if you don't want to purchase a DS system.

  • Great Game!!!!!!!!!!

the game is just like nintendogs but its for gba and there is one version compared to three versions. and u dont have the touch screen on a gba so its different but i still think its fun.

  • Very Entertaining!

My nine year old daughter loves this game! She has been asking for it since her older sisters received a similar game for their Nintendo DS systems. Though it's not as graphic and detailed as the DS game, she is very happy with it and has no problem moving though the game. She plays it often and is always full of smiles and giggles as she plays!

  • Holy bajeebers!!!

    By on 2006-04-01
This game is fun! Okay, not only do you get to get a dog, name it, and teach it tricks, but you can also do things for yourself, such as play with toys, sleep, eat, go to school! Theres a back yard too, and your dad plays golf! After you teach it sit and stay, you can go on walks. After the 3 weeks, you save your file onto Freinds Forever and you get to keep it forever, and make a new file. You can have 3 files! This game is awsome, so buy it!!!

  • Fun,easy, and really cute!
    By on 2006-06-29
This game is a lot of fun. I'm having a blast traing my Shiba-Inu, Twiz.First you pick a pooch, there must be a thousand choices. Then of coarse, you name it. At home you can feed your dog, teach him or her tricks, listin to music, play mini games, walk your dog, and clean the house! This game is great! The only thing is that you have your dog only for 20 game days. That's around an hour in real life. If you have a young or sensitive child this may not be the best. The dog is "took away from you" shortly. But don't worry! You can visit your pooch anytime!Just go to "Forever Together Mode" in the start menu.I REALLY recomend this game for un-sensitive children! Have fun! :)

  • Dogz Gameboy Advance game
    By on 2005-12-27
I really wanted this game and I finally got it for Christmas. I thought it would be more fun. You take care of your dog for 3 weeks and then that's it!!! I thought it would be more fun. I should have asked for Pocket Dogs instead.

  • This game is so cool
    By on 2005-12-14
For all u people who say this game is a rip off from nintendogs your wrong. This game was made for people who dont have a ds yet.I dont have a ds and i really wanted nintendogs,So my mom got me this game.It really fun!!!!!!!!!

  • Fun at first....
    By ACUGDSUV65ICV on 2005-12-27
I bought this game becuase it looked so cute and all. But I was quite sad that after a days hard traing and all it was time for the puppy to go! One day in that game is like 3 minutes long! Also there are tricks that arent in the real game but in together forever mode! Overall it was good but I still wish it was longer and had more space for saving dogs and more breeds!

  • Fun, but short...
    By on 2005-12-29
Ok, this was fun at first, but you only take care of your dog for 3 weeks and each day is like 5 minutes!!!You can only have 3 different dogs. This game is WAY to short. Get pocket dogs instead.

  • Dogz!!!!
    By on 2006-02-06
This game is so much fun! First, you have to pick out a dog. There are 18 adorable breeds. Then, your adventure begins. You have to train your dog, feed your dog, and so much more! This might sound like a lot of work, but in this game, work is fun. I think the Dogz for Nintendo DS is more fun, but I still think this game is fun too. Oh, and also, you have three weeks to do all of this stuff. Then, when your three weeks are over, you can put your puppy is always together mode. I love this game!

  • I love this game
    By on 2006-06-29
This game is so much fun! I'm a blast playing with my dog, KoKo.All the dogs are adorable! The graphics are also good. This game never gets boring! You get to train your dog to do cool tricks. When you walk you can buy stuff like beds and leashes and food. The house is nice and so is the neihborhood. The dog's easy to train as long as you can take about 15 minutes to do it. The one and only low point is that time passes by too quickly. But that doesn't matter much. Please buy this game 6-12! :)

  • Its so fun me and my brother!!!

  • Originally a PC CD-ROM game
    By A4BZI57X7AXBE on 2005-12-17
I am so thrilled that Game Boy has this game! My children (ages 7 & 10) have been playing computer games for years. I finally purchased Game Boy's now that they're responsible enough not to lose them. This game has been and will probably always be one of their favorites. It was a favorite on PC and is the most played on their Game Boys! As far as being a "rip off", the original Dogz on PC is at least 6 years old. We have Dogz 1, Dogz 3, Dogz 4, and Petz 5 (dogz AND catz interactive). They're all a lot of fun! Enjoy this game. Silly fun for dogs lovers of any age!

  • AWSOME!!!!THE BEST!!!
    By on 2006-02-02
This game is so fun!!!I got it about three weeks ago,and fell in love with every dog.All 18!!!So if you want a virtual pet,buy this game!!!Trust me people!!!!!!!

  • Quite a Disapiontment
    By on 2006-03-06
I was excited to finally get the game of my dreams. Well, it's not any more! For starters, they don't have very good dog breeds. Only 18! Each day is around 5 min. long. Your day is like this : you get up, are FORCED to eat breakfast , are FORCED to go to school , and you are FORCED to eat dinner, The lines the parents say are ALWAYS the same and are TACKY!!!! A friend of mine agrees that the game is a rip-off! You only have the dog for 3 weeks, and the weeks go by quickly. PLEASE ! Take my advice. Don't buy this game. If I would have known , I wouldn't have bought it!!!!

  • Wow! Confusing at first but charming!
    By on 2006-05-31
When you start your life off with a puppy, it's first really confusing and even frustrating. As soon as I got home with this game, I put it into my Gameboy Player on my gamecube. (which is a MUST have! it's so cool to see your gameboy games on your TV) Anyway, first I couldn't find the dog I wanted, frustrated I ran outside of the pet shop and found out I could go to another one! I found the most cute lab, even though I wanted a Shiba Inu....
After we got home with the puppy I started training him. After he learned sit and stay I started to get really annoyed. Why can't I get the stupid injections? So I waited for Saturday to come around and we went to the vet to get his vaccinations. Walking him was so much fun! Plus this game is so realistic. There are chores you have to do sometimes, and you have to eat. You can even feed yourself snacks from the drawer. It was cool lying down on the couch next to my dad too. After I understood it the game was sooooooo fun! Way easier yet more challenging than Nintendogs. Not that I'm against that game, but this one is much more fun! In Nintendogs you know when the dog is hungry and you can't really "bond" to say so, in Dogz though, it's so much fun guessing! Worth the money!

  • This game was not very good
    By A3H8OYQ7QT8K80 on 2006-12-09
My mom bought me both this and pocket dogs. She bought pocketdogs from amazon and this from toys r' us both for my birthday. I played this first because it looked so cute ! But then after a couple of hours i thought, wow this is such a waste of money. So then, i went and tried out pocket dogs! it was a blast. The graphics are cute and the dogs are adorable. i love the games and how you can buy stuff from your house and stuff! i reccomend pocket dogs a lot more then dogz. If you want a game that you won't get too bored of Pocket Dogz is the one.

  • Horrible! Dont buy.
    By AZTEA084SQJ3C on 2005-12-31
This is a rip off of nintendogs. Get a Nintendo ds, Buy nintendogs instead and youwill be waaaaay happier.

  • Terrible game for small children
    By A3MID91TJESFHS on 2006-04-17
I will probably end up selling this game because I think it is terrible for small kids. My [...] son played it all day and "raised" his puppy. The dog ended up dying!!!! It doesn't mention that anywhere in the instructions for the game. Think carefully before buying this for a child.

  • don't listen to those reviews that say the dog "dies"
    By on 2007-04-17
Before buying this game i read all of the reviews and i noticed that most of them say that the dog "dies" well in truth it really doesn't die. it is taken away from you and then the game asks you if you want to save it and if you say yes then it saves it fopr you. after you save it you can go back and play with it any time you want. it does this so that after a certain amount of time if you don't like the dog you have you can switch and get a new dog and not feel obligated to stay with your one. sodon't listen to those reviews that say your dog "dies". after your dog is taken away just go to the main menu and switch it to forever together mode with your dog.
so if you took my advice buy it for your kids and tell them your dog will be taken away but you get him/her back.

  • The dog died
    By A38X4XFC30AI02 on 2006-01-12
We got this game for my daughter 2 days ago who just loves dogs but can't have one because of allergies. She didn't play on it a whole lot, and already the dog "died" on her. She was so upset (very sensitive girl). I think it's a bit much for a child when the screen comes up with "your relationship with your dog is over" or something like that. This game could have been written a whole lot better.

  • THIS SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    By on 2006-01-29
THIS GAME SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PLEASE DONT GET THIS. YOUR WASTING YOUR TIME AND MONEY. YOU ONLY CAN PLAY FOR 3 WEEKS AND THEN YOUR PET DIES. TAKE MY ADVICE. DONT GET IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Fun
    By on 2006-03-25
This game is really fun; its somewhat like Nintendogs, well its got the same idea. You get a dog, (there are a lot of them) name it, feed it, play with it, brush it, cleen after it and more. You can walk it but it takes a while because he needs his shots before he can go on a walk. You play as a third grade girl/boy, she/he goes to school, (you don't do any school you just see her/him come in and then back out) eats dinner, needs to go to sleep just like an real person. The only let down for me was that the game ends after 30 days, but after that you can make a new game and visit your old dog and teach it new tricks! But over all this is a great game for all ages. I give this 4 just because it ended after 30 days but other than that its a great game!

  • how the game works
    By A681QDMXFP334 on 2006-04-14
i thought playing the game would of been awsome but it ended up being short and sortive fun. i was able to get any dog, name it, train it walk it and pet it. i got to play my own games and have my own chores. it is ok for a kid the has a low attention span cus if you get bored or distracted you can repaly it anytime but for someone who wants to play a game for hours.. not a good idea. other then that i thought it was ok. my brother liked it. he 8yrs old.

  • Dogz is an AWSOME Game!!!!!!!!!!
    By on 2006-12-26
I have this game. I got it for Christmas. I play it all the time. The game asks you 3 questions and they give you a selection of dogs based on the questions you answered. You find the perfect dog!!! I have not stopped playing it. It is not boring at all. You get to walk your dog, brush him/her,feed them, give them water. The only thing that I do not like about this game is that you can only buy one thing a day. Otherwise it is an AWSOME toatally FUN game to play!!!!!!!!!!

  • Ha Ha !!!
    By on 2006-01-29
This game sucks so bad i forgot to laugh dont ever get this game its short boring and my dog died in 3 minutes

  • You ppl dont know wut ur talkin about.
    By on 2005-12-17
This game was not copied from nintendogs. its a version of "Dogz" for the computer, u just cant breed them :(

  • Dogz, Cute, fun, simple
    By on 2006-06-26
Dogz is a simple game (for the first five minutes). You take a little quiz to see what dog you might like. You pick a dog. You might find it in one trip to the store or 9 trips to the store. I picked a beagle. And then you go home and name. Now the game gets harder. You must train your puppy to sit, stay, lie down, go to the bathroom, and more. Once you teach it about three things, it gets easier. After three weeks with the puppy, you are forced to leave your puppy. You can visit your puppy if you like. But after you're finished visiting, you are forced to do it over again. I reccomend this game to girls for cuteness

  • Top List
    By on 2006-07-09
This is the top on my "Things-to-get" list. I have read the reviews, and yes, this is NOT a rip of of nintendogs. It used to be a pc game. I just bought Catz today and am raising a Abysinnian Sorrel named Dingo.
