Seventh Generation Bathroom Tissue, 2-Ply Sheets, 500-Sheet Rolls (Pack of 48)x$56.23

(113 reviews)

Best Price: $56.23

Seventh Generation Bathroom Tissue is made from 100% recycled paper, with a minimum of 80% post-consumer materials. Whitened with an environmentally safe process--never with chlorine bleach--this tissue is the healthy choice for your family and your environment.

Made from 100% Recycled Chlorine-Free Paper
By choosing Seventh Bathroom Tissue, you'll be making an important environmental difference immediately. These paper towels are not whitened with chlorine and are made from 100% recycled paper (80% post-consumer, 20% pre-consumer). Hypo-allergenic, unbleached, fragrance-free, and made without dyes or inks, this tissue paper is safe for septic systems and ideal for low-flow toilets.

Post-consumer paper is paper that has been recycled at home or at the office. Buying post-consumer paper helps finish the job you started--of saving the earth's natural resources, including trees, water, and energy. And using products made from post-consumer recycled materials helps reduce the need for virgin wood pulp, which means more trees are left standing. Trees naturally absorb carbon dioxide--a greenhouse gas that's the primary contributor to global warming. In fact, a single tree, over its lifetime, absorbs about one tone of CO2. To put it another way, a ton of recycled paper saves seventeen trees.

If every household in the U.S. replaced just one roll of 500 sheet virgin fiber bathroom tissue with 100% recycled ones, we could save 448,000 trees, 1.1 million cubic feet of landfill space (equal to 1,700 full garbage trucks), and 161 million gallons of water, which is a year's supply for 1,270 families of four!

About Seventh Generation
Seventh Generation offers a complete line of natural household products designed to work as well as their traditional counterparts, but use renewable, non-toxic, phosphate-free, and biodegradable ingredients as often as possible, and are never tested on animals. Seventh Generation products are healthy and safe for the air, the surfaces, the pets, and the people in your home--and for the environment outside of it. Every time you use Seventh Generation products you make a difference by saving natural resources, keeping toxic chemicals out of the environment, and making the world a safer place for this and the next seven generations.

Customer Reviews

  • Seventh Generation also offers a softer alternative

    By A2PX368BO1LJ2K on 2007-11-10
Seventh Generation offers two types of bath tissue: 500 sheet and 400 sheet. The one listed above, at 500 sheets, is the thinner, tougher, more abrasive type. The one to get instead is the following, also available on Amazon (sometimes):

Seventh Generation Bathroom Tissue, 2-ply White Unscented, Case Pack (48-400 Sheet Rolls)

The 400 sheet variety is not only great for the environment (80% post consumer recycled/ whitened without chlorine bleach) but also soft and comfortable. Amazon currently lists it as 'unavailable'. To encourage Amazon to carry the more comfortable one, add that one to your wish list. Or once it is available, purchase the 400 sheet one instead.

The 500 sheet variety will remind you of being in a gas station restroom. If you end up buying this in bulk, you'll find yourself secretly buying traditional toilet paper to pull out of the cabinet when you have guests...

  • This company is doing it right...

    By A2GYXT9MKFU5RB on 2006-03-24
Okay, so let's be upfront... This toilet paper could be softer--don't expect Charmin softness. But it's really not bad. I rated this product a 5 despite the softness factor because this company is doing it right. You can feel good about this paper being made from 100% recycled materials (80% post-consumer!). In addition, this paper is not whitened using any chlorination process, which is better for all of us. I think that as more people show they are willing to buy products made from recycled content, companies can put more money into making them more luxurious. Go Seventh Generation!

  • Excellent quality product!

    By A26A64X86VL1R4 on 2007-01-11
Seventh Generation is a company that specializes in eco-friendly products. The name for the company comes is taken from a quote of the Great Law of the Iroquois confederacy: "In our every deliberation we must consider the impact of our decisions on the next seven generations." A philosophy that can easily be extended to decisions both large and small.

In this case, the bathroom tissue is made with 100% recycled materials and is whitened without using bleach. Using recycled products not only saves trees but reduces land fill.

As for the comfort and utility of this product it is a quality toilet tissue that is reasonably soft and absorbent. So if we can be comfortable, hygenic and eco-friendly, why not?

  • Well, it is good for the environment

    By A2PNOU7NXB1JE4 on 2006-07-12
I confess I'm a Northern Quilted toliet paper fan. I ordered this to be enviromentally friendly (EF) and was enticed by the coupon. It is as another reviewer noted, rough on the "quilted" side, but soft on the smooth side. I will likely order more, but when company visits, I will revert back to Northern. This product's texture is quite similar to the inexpensive paper used in public restroom facilities. Also I find I use more, so I may be be as "EF" as I had hoped.

  • Great stuff!

    By ANT6EBDDNZUYM on 2006-06-14
Try it you will like it. It really is better paper, compares to Scott individual wrapped rolls. You will be doing your self a favor by not using paper that has been chemically treated and it's better for the environment too. Free shipping, fantastic!

  • keepin' it green--despite the texture and the price
    By A2R6RA8FRBS608 on 2007-08-29
Seventh Generation makes a fine brand of bath tissue--even if it's not exactly Charmin soft. I prefer the texture of Scott bath tissue so for me this product was really not bad at all. I enjoy knowing that I am helping to keep our planet "green" when choosing this bath tissue.

This bath tissue is made of completely recycled paper--80% of which is post consumer material! Great! All this DOES reduce pollution, just as they advertise on the wrapping of the roll of toilet paper. The wrapping is great and the bath tissue is whitened without using bleach. I am very impressed. Predictably, this bath tissue is not just kinder to Mother Nature; it's easier on those of us who are sensitive to scents. It is hypoallergenic; and it is perfectly safe for toilet and septic systems just as Amazon notes above. Of course, there's always a limit to how much paper will go in one single flush down the toilet; but most people have an intuitive sense about this so it shouldn't be a problem.

Of course, bath tissue never "goes stale," so if you catch a sale on this product stock up on it! The rolls can be stored in the package they come in; or you can store the rolls individually in various places throughout your home where they will be needed.

Actually, there are some concerns. Seventh Generation bath tissue is comparatively expensive to most other brands of bath tissue. People on a budget may simply not be able to afford this product. Moreover, some people will protest the feel of this paper since, as I wrote above, it's not exactly Charmin soft. I'll take off one star for these two issues even though I personally like this very much. I know that in time Seventh Generation will figure out a way to make this product softer--and cheaper.

Overall, if you don't mind the texture and the price, this is excellent bath tissue. I myself recommend it highly.

  • Excellent tissue, but this is WAY overpriced
    By AAJIGWE242MSN on 2007-09-03
And we thought it was expensive at Central Market! Do yourself a favor and check your local store. We paid 9 usd for 12 rolls which works out to 36 for 48 rolls. Guess this is how Amazon keeps the prices on other items down ;)

  • mountains and mountains of paper!
    By A8SP5MWYVD00D on 2007-09-16
I was a little apprehensive about buying this in such a large quantity only because I have "tissue issues" when a toilet paper falls apart when you use it. You ladies, know what I mean. There is nothing worse than toilet paper lint. You won't get that with this product! Also, my 7 year old was having urinary tract infection symptoms for months and since we switched to this brand she hasn't complained ONE TIME about itching or burning. I attribute that to the way they whiten their paper and it being hypoallergenic! I also figured out that our family of 5 (2 of us being females) goes through one roll every 2 1/2 days so this case of toilet paper will last us about 4 MONTHS! Can everyone rejoice with me at only having to buy TP 3 times a year? Look, the bottom line *smile* is that it's better for your body AND better for the environment so feel good about buying this product!

  • Environmentally friendly, but not super-soft
    By AWNWOMUT9HS2D on 2007-11-25
I have come to use a lot of Seventh Generation products lately, this being one of them.

    Plus:
    - not packaged with plastic
    - available in bulk
    - chlorine free (chlorine is quite harmful to the environment)

    Minus:
    - it's far from the super-soft tissues I grew up with

No, it's not super-soft. It's not uncomfortable though, and you will quickly get used to it. I bought the 1-ply by mistake last time though, and it was horrible. It was way too thin and is a hassle to use. Stick with the 2-ply.

  • seventh generation is soft enough for me
    By A5BGWFJ7BWK0L on 2006-05-27
I actually find the softness of those big name brands to be annoying. Their lint production alone is enough to turn me away.
I have used many seventh generation products for years and find their toilet paper to be the best of its kind. It is 2-ply which is very nice and it is made with 80% post-consumer materials!

  • The Bad Reviews are Ridiculous....Don't Listen To Them!
    By A2IGXQRZK89B47 on 2007-10-28
I have used this product for years. Amazon Grocery is the best deal online, especially if you buy it every few months when there's a $20 coupon for $79 spent on Seventh Generation...

If you're used to that "soft" toilet paper and dissing this brand, all I can say is....give it time, you'll get used to this....the people who gave it bad reviews because of "softness", I'm willing to bet, did so the same day they got the 7th Generation brand, at which time you might notice a difference...

Is your bottom really worth cutting down virgin forests to make "soft" toilet paper for spoiled you? Or using chemical bleached T.P.? (Maybe your bottom is more sensitive because of the chemicals in that "soft" T.P.!!) To me, the soft brands always shredded when wiping, little pieces of T.P. would stick to your privates, and that's disgusting...this doesn't do that...And, it is NOT coarse like the kind in public restrooms, as one reviewer said!! I've used this a long time, and this is MUCH softer than the kind in public restrooms! Remember, for thousands of years until "toilet paper" was "invented" by humans, humans wiped with leaves/cloths/ etc...nothing "soft" like Northern or Charmin!

Also, if your bottom is so sensitive that only the "soft" brands satisfy you, maybe you have some other skin problem down there that needs to be checked medically...or too-frequent urination due to some medical problem...(Like when you're sick, blowing your nose all day, the area becomes raw and even the softest tissue hurts...) Or too acidic urination due to poor nutrition or some other medical problem. Or maybe your hygiene down there isn't good, causing irritation!!

I recommend trying this product 'till it's gone before judging--I'm willing to bet once you get used to it, if it bothered you at first at all, you won't be complaining, and that "soft, quilted" T.P. processed with bleach and produced from clearcutting virgin, ancient forests will be the kind you'll no longer care for! , I even use the paper wrapper from this product to wipe with, LOL

  • SHIFT Happens
    By A10GB1QMKTTSH1 on 2007-06-26
We have recycled religiously for years everything from aluminum to paper. It is time to start BUYING RECYCLED products to help create demand for them. This bathroom tissue met our need for buying recycled products conveniently.

How does it perform? It's soft, strong, a bit harder to tear from the roll than non-recycled brands we were using.

  • Just because I care about the environment doesn't mean I want to wipe with sandpaper
    By A3GKQY58QM8KT4 on 2008-02-28
I specifically purchased the 2 ply sheets of toilet paper (instead of the 1 ply) because I enjoy a softer gentler tissue on the toilet. You need to use a more than you would of other thicker brands, and it doesn't feel so nice either. I can only imagine how much worse the 1 ply would be.

  • Not that soft, but it's fine for me.
    By A2SO1NKGS6ZTLJ on 2006-08-26
Echoing other reviewer's sentiments...the quilting is not as good as what you might find in something like Quilted Northern or Angel Soft, but I wouldn't say it's as rough as the stuff that comes on those large industrial-size rolls at the airport. There's hardly any lint, and the paper is quite strong. I haven't had any problems whatsoever.

  • Saving the Planet, Burning Your Bum
    By A2S8OIFS5AMED2 on 2007-01-17
Just be prepared... it's pretty much on par with industrial quality toilet paper.

  • Publix Supermarkets sell the same thing.
    By A1YOMTFIC07QZB on 2007-02-11
If you live in the Southeast, Publix sells a 100% recycled toilet paper and it is the cheapest one you can buy in the store. The mark up on Seventh Generation is sometimes warranted, but not in this case.

  • A no-brainer recycled paper product to buy
    By A2SU6GK7WIP5CN on 2007-03-07
It's easy enough to haul the bag of newspapers to the curb each week for recycling. But we consumers need to create a demand for products made from post-consumer recycled paper. What better use for recycled paper than for something we flush down the toilet after each use? Although the appearance of this product is not quite up to Charmin standards (rolls a little uneven looking, can be a little difficult to start) it does the job without any problems and is soft enough for me, at least.

Buy this product and keep trees doing their job removing CO2 from the atmosphere!

  • love this toilet paper
    By ABYFV6KC2ESFS on 2007-05-09
For those sensitive to dyes, perfumes, chlorine and other unnecessary TP additives, the 7th Generation toilet paper can be a life saver. The box it gets shipped in was mighty crushed by the time UPS threw it on my front porch, but the TP inside was fine. Buying it in bulk this way is far cheaper than getting it at the grocery store.

Stuff costs more than normal TP but its socially conscious (hopefully). Great bargain when buying through Amazon.

  • A top quality toilet paper
    By ABLKO3TSRPKPP on 2007-08-29
I decided to try this brand on auto-ship a few months ago. I'm as pleased as a person can be with a toilet paper.

Health & Safety: It's unscented, no dyes, and no chlorine bleach. Can't get much more hypo-allergenic than this!

    Recycling: Made with 100% recycled paper (80% min post-consumer and 20% pre-consumer)

Comfort/ease of use: I've read that other people find the paper "rough," but I think it's just perfect. It's strong enough not to fall apart during use and soft enough to be comfortable. It's two-ply and comes on a large enough roll to last. My previous favorite brand was the regular Cottonelle--I find the texture, strength and absorbency of this brand to be similar.

Packaging: The packaging is simply a paper wrapper around each roll and all the rolls are shipped stacked in a large cardboard box. Unpacking is a snap, which is especially important to me because I have mild arthritis and have trouble ripping open plastic packages. I'm also an avid gardener and composter, so it pleases me that all the wrappers, empty tubes, and the outer box can go right outside into my compost pile rather than filling up my trash.

Convenience: I love that it comes via auto-ship! One of the worst things for the house to run out of is toilet paper. I also love that I no longer have to wrestle bulky packages of toilet paper from the store to the car and the car to the house. Now toilet paper just appears on my doorstep!

  • saving the earth one flush at a time
    By A2Q3CARG6CUNS3 on 2007-09-14
Great product, even the packaging is recyclable and made of recycled paper products. NO PLASTIC WRAPPERS!!!
I am in the process of converting all of my friends from using bleached, over-packaged toilet paper to this option.
Seventh Generation Rocks! I love their philosophy and product line.

  • Yucky toilet paper
    By A3CN9CCJUNIPKT on 2007-09-15
We have a big, old Whole Foods here in town, that for some reason only carries this brand (Seventh Generation) but not the other brand of "green" toilet paper that we like. I've bought these a couple of times and regretted it on each occasion. This brand is both flimsy and rough, and the rolls are packed extremely loosely -- you're not getting a lot of paper for your money. I'd use this paper in a pinch (sorry, couldn't resist the pun) but I have often gone out of my way to avoid buying it.

  • The Paper Could Be Softer and Thicker
    By ASHV1PQLRGSAV on 2007-10-20
I've enjoyed toilet paper made by Seventh Generation that I bought in smaller packs at the grocery store, so decided to get a case online for work. While it is good to have a roll with 500 sheets, somewhere along the way they lost the softness. The rolls that are individually wrapped and sold by the case do not feel as soft and are thinner than the store bought ones. I would have to use an extra square to make sure, so to speak, which used up more paper.

The people who work here noticed the difference, as well, and so I won't be buying cases of this again. I ended up finding a similar product (a case of 500-sheet rolls) by a different company that was much softer and had the same Post Consumer Recycled Paper content as Seventh Gen., so I have switched. Too bad it is not sold on Amazon :( (hint, hint... find other enviro toilet paper products to sell, guys!)

  • do the right thing
    By A3R6PI47EF3F83 on 2006-12-18
OK, it's not as soft as the "premium " brands. But then, those brands aren't environmentally correct. They kill trees. I waited for weeks to see this product was available through Amazon Grocery. That tells you something. It's in demand. People want to do the right thing by buying products like this one. Finally, last week the item was back in stock. I ordered a case that day. With my Amazon Prime I had it at my doorstep in 2 days. On the day it arrived I checked and sure enough, it was out of stock again. "Currently unavailable." Keep checking back. It's worth the trouble. Be patient. Support the environment. Trees are beautiful. Don't flush them away.

  • A Great Recycled Product!
    By AA1HGLBR664VQ on 2007-02-21
Toilet paper you can feel good about! If you are a reading this then you probably at least have some kind of concern for the environment. What better way to do your part than with a product you use every day. Not only is the toilet paper from recycled material (minimum of 80% post consumer!) but it is not packaged in plastic like every other toilet paper you find at the store. Each roll is wrapped in paper and the only other packaging is the big cardboard box they are shipped in.

After reading some of the reviews I was wondering about the quality and softness of this paper, but I decided to give it a try. I am glad I did as I love this paper. I dislike the fluffy brands that get lint every where. This paper is not like that, so if that is the kind of paper you are use to and like be warned. It is still a step or two above public restroom paper. It is better than what we have at work, so it from my perspective its quality is great. In reality the softness and quality is going to depend on your opinion and point of view. I find it to be soft enough for me. It does not feel uncomfortable at all. Your opinion may vary though. I plan on continuing to use this toilet paper so I hope Amazon continues to stock it, as it is rather expensive to buy from the stores in my area.

  • Excellent product
    By A3VO9OYG0QHKN9 on 2007-05-15
I have chemical sensitivities to all kinds of products. This is the only brand I have found that does not cause me problems. I suffered for years with itching and infections. Since I switched to 7th generation that problems is totally solved.

  • Great Bathroom Tissue
    By A2L1OMDYO793KO on 2007-09-02
My family has tried several different brands of 100% recycled bathroom tissue and Seventh Generation is the best in terms of quality and value. Purchasing by the pack of 48 rolls means not having to worry about running out.

  • Great product
    By A3GBUCJS146RRN on 2007-09-02
I love this toilet paper. Although is not as soft as the leading brands, it's not as bad as I thought it was going to be. It also makes me feel good that I'm somehow helping the environment.

  • Super product!
    By A15E0FB5RYLWLB on 2007-09-26
Well, we have always used the super soft toilet papers but let me tell you, this product is not only better for the environment but also for being "user friendly". It does a great job of doing what "toilet paper" is supposed to do :) just because it isn't TOO soft.

I love the environmental products to get folks used to thinking about what's going on in the world and this product is no exception. Try it, you'll like it.

With Amazon's "Prime" shipping, you get it in just a couple of days with free shipping. Why bother going to the store when such a great deal can be delivered to your door?

  • A really top notch bathroom tissue
    By A1ZIX3J7TUO8D on 2007-11-19
This bathroom tissue is much better than I expected. It is as soft as a middle of the pack tissue, with the added benefit of being easy on your conscience. Obviously it's not as soft as velvet, but it's plenty soft to use on noses and on less delicate body parts. We've been using it for about a month and haven't had any problems with the perforations, the wrapping, the thickness or any of the other things you'd be concerned with.

I think the price here is good. I like this tissue so much I'm converting to all sorts of seventh generation products.
