Great bread...even better pizza crust! By A3IQ71NTVRFAV on 2007-02-19
We've been using this bread mix for about a year, as it's the best gluten-free bread mix I've found. I usually make the sweet bread and it's very good, although it would make a great savory bread with herbs as well. I didn't even think to try to make pizza crust with it, as we were using a mix specifically for pizza crust from another popular gluten-free brand, which I didn't really like (too light and thick like a deep dish, but without flavor). I just tried Pamela's bread mix for pizza crust and it was amazing. Not too thick and a bit chewy just like "real" pizza crust. I did add the italian spices which are optional but suggested in the directions, and it was wonderful. The first decent pizza we've had since we've been gluten-free!
Good texture, flat flavor By APCDN1JK6B81P on 2007-11-08
I had high hopes for this gluten-free bread mix, and although it had many good qualities, I probably wouldn't buy it again because I didn't care for the flavor. I made it in my breadmaker and it rose nicely and held its shape reasonably well after I took it out of the machine. I let the bread cool before I cut it as all gluten free bread can fall if cut while hot, and the bread sliced very well. Each individual slice had a spongy, soft bread texture. Actually it was almost a little TOO soft for me, but those who like soft bread might enjoy it. I cut a slice and put margarine and honey on it, expecting to have a tasty bite of fresh bread- but something about the flavor bothered me, and I had difficulty enjoying it. I have had almost every kind of gluten-free bread on the market and have been gluten free for a long time, but I don't know how I feel about this new Sorghum craze. Although it yields decent nutritional value and good texture, similarly to bean flour, if there is too high of a ratio of sorghum to neutral flours (White rice, tapioca, etc.) I think that the flavor is negatively impacted. I prefer a more subtle mix, like Bette Hagman's four flour blend, which has less sorghum and thus gets the good qualities of the flour without negatively impacting flavor. I toasted the bread for sandwiches for a few days and my husband ate it without complaint (he is not gluten-free), but because I didn't like the bread and it reminded me a little of playdough, I don't think I'll buy it again. My entirely subjective opinion aside, if you are looking for an easy gluten-free bread mix for your machine, I would recommend that you try this mix, because only trial and error will help you find a bread mix that suits your palate. I prefer homemade bean flour blends, Bob's red Mill GF bread, or The gluten free Pantry's favorite sandwich bread, but you may find this mix fits the bill perfectly!
One other note- Most of the 99 reviews listed for this item are actually NOT for this specific mix- they are for the full spectrum of Pamela's products on Amazon. So, while people like this mix- 99+ people have not (yet) rated this item.
It does make an AMAZING bread !!! By AHA3EU8E216Z6 on 2006-08-28
This past December my 7-year old son was diagnosed with allergic to wheat. This is a little guy that LOVES bread !!! He is also allergic to dairy. So, I searched and tried many kinds of wheat free bread mix/recipes and he might eat 2 bites and then stopped with sad face or he would cry. He said "it's yucky, grainy, tasted bad...". I often hid my tears, 'cause I knew I needed to be strong for him. Once I even ordered a bread from a bakery chef, $6.50/loaf, and my son took one bite and that's it!
Then in June I checked out Amazon, and found this product. The review said it's moist and not grainy, and I was so desperate, so I ordered a box of 6! That ended my search!!
When I put the 1st loaf on the dining table, my son could not stop eating it (and of course, I cried secretly in the kitchen!). I also ordered the cake mix, and chocolate chip cookies mix. I can't express how thankful I am to see my son's bright eyes as he enjoys his bread. By the way, I like it too. Thank you to the people that make Pamela's Products !!!!

Really no difference in the flavor than regular pancake mix. My children ate it with no problems and said it tasted the same as regular. Great for my daughter that's allergic to wheat! Give it a try. I paid $6.89 for just one at the local health food store. This is a much better deal!
I wanted to add that I posted this description under Pamela's Pancake mix. I have also used the Chocolate cake mix and the bread mix. Since this is posted under all 3 for some reason I will comment on those too. The Bread mix is very good. It does take a little tweaking, maybe it's my bread machine. It is very good, everyone in the family likes it. We have made pizza crust out of it for my little girl and she loves it. We have made the cookies from the pancake mix and she loves them, we add cinnamon and sugar to them before baking. The Chocolate Cake mix is very good, it is more of a dark chocolate than a milk chocolate. We make cupcakes out of them and freeze them. Nice and fluffy. She loves them too. All in all I would say that if you can't have wheat, Pamela's products are the best choice for flavor and texture. Don't buy that already made bread. It was awful, sorry I don't remember the brand but Amazon sells it.
The BEST Wheat Free Bread Mix! By A35SRQCYYKL2V4 on 2007-07-26
I have been searching for a good-tasting wheat-free bread mix since I found out I cannot have wheat. This is by far the BEST that I have tried. And you can make it in your bread maker. I also cannot have dairy or eggs, so I use Ener-G Egg Replacer (about 2-3 eggs worth) and it works great! My friends and family who can eat regular bread prefer Pamela's over any bread that has wheat in it!
- Awesome baking mix
     By A1POT9M48VN8AW on 2006-05-01
I bought these for my girlfriend who can not eat Gluten. I kept one of the bags for my self cause they make such good pancakes. We first made crepes. They were light and yummy. We put in some fresh fruit and chocolate (yum). The next day we made pancakes and waffles. Sooooo good. I don't have to eat GF pancakes but i doubt i will go back to my usual mix. This mix can also be used in other baking applications. Buy the case now!
- The Best Gluten Free Baking Product out there!

A year ago my daughter was diagnosed with Celiac's disease. I have tried everything there is out there to give her the closest thing there is to "normal" food. Pamels'a baking mix by far is the BEST! My husbands Mom also has celiac's disease and agree's this is a great product, she came to visit for Christmas and we made pancakes out of it while she was here and she went home and bought some right away. My son who is the pickest eater ever and is not allergic to Gluten LOVES the pancakes and waffles from the mix he eates more that my daughter who is allergic to gluten. I recomend this product to anyone who is allergic to gluten, it lets you enjoy the taste of breads again without cheating.
- Yay Bread!
     By AP61JGRTHSQBJ on 2007-04-16
I discovered that I was gluten-intolerant about a year ago and have been looking for good-tasting wheat-free products ever since. My primary roadblock has been bread - every single loaf of gluten-free bread I've tried has been beyond disgusting. I've been to health food store after health food store and haven't found a single loaf that I can eat without gagging. I thought it was hopeless until I read the reviews of Pamela's Amazing Wheat-Free Bread Mix. I decided to give it a shot, so I borrowed my sister-in-law's bread machine and fired up a loaf.
Simply put, I was amazed at the results. Does it taste like regular bread? No. Well, almost. Is it light-years beyond any other gluten-free breads? A hearty, resounding YES! If you've eaten other gluten-free (GF) breads before, let me give you a comparison: it holds up better than pre-made GF bread, but it still feels like it could fall apart easily. Putting a slice in the toaster helps with that. It's a little on the chewy side. It tastes like it doesn't have any salt in it, so adding some butter really helps. It kind of looks like banana bread, if I were to compare textures. Make sure to have some milk on-hand because it makes you pretty thirsty when you eat it!
I would say this is 90% - 95% as good as "real" bread. Thank goodness, my search for wheat-free bread is over! And Amazon sells it for nearly half the price as my local health food stores! If you're the only gluten-intolerant or Celiac in your family, I would recommend picking up a bread machine. It makes one loaf automatically. All I did was to follow the direction on the package and the loaf came out perfectly. It was as simple as dumping the ingredients in the machine, making sure the settings were right, and hitting the "On" button. So easy, even a caveman could do it! I put the bread machine to work at about 9pm at night and woke up the next morning to freshly-baked GLUTEN-FREE bread. EDIBLE bread. Awesome! I used a older Zojirushi machine, but some of the newer models like from Breadman actually have a Gluten-Free setting on them. There is hope for decent-tasting bread for us gluten-intolerant people! THANK YOU Pamela's Products!!
- The BEST GF mix made!
     By A36GMYYG8VAI08 on 2006-05-23
My son and I have been eating gluten free for many years and I have tried every GF mix that becomes available. Pamela's Ultimate baking and Pancake Mix is truly the best! The rest of the family cannot tell the items I make are wheat free and gluten free, a tell tale sign that this mix is really good. It doesn't have a gritty texture like alot of the other GF mixes out there, and makes the most wonderful muffins, pancakes and crepes. I'm eating a delicious blueberry muffin as I type and order my case! I paid $5.69 for one bag of the mix when I purchased from the store, but Amazon has it here at $4.00 a bag when you buy the case. A great savings and I know I'll go through the case quickly!
I'm trying the chocolate cookie recipe on the bag next and as any GF eating person knows, it's difficult to find a good GF chocolate chip cookie! I'm sure these will be as equally satisfing as all the other foods I've made with this mix! Try it, you won't be unsatisfied!
- Deserves 6 stars!
     By A2ZTSS5KWXFN59 on 2006-06-21
This makes the best pancakes ever and can even be used as a substitute for evil gluten-filled flour in recipes. We've made bread, cookies, pancakes, cakes, brownies, and even pizza crust. We have to keep buying this frequently since we go through it so quickly. It has even passed the taste tests of those without gluten problems. Fantastic!! A celiac's dream come true.
- A great GF mix!
     By A3B3IFJG6L478O on 2006-08-21
I have made pancakes for breakfast nearly every day since I bought this mix- they are light and fluffy, just like pancakes should be. I have also used the mix as a flour substitute in recipes and to make a breading mixture and it works great. I will be sure to always have some of this mix on hand!
- The BEST chocolate cake mix!
     By A3A72QZJ24CIWV on 2008-01-19
This is a wonderful, rich cake mix. My family and I are in love with this stuff. It makes 14 cupcakes, big ones. We freeze half for the kids to take to school for treats, the rest are consumed almost immediately! My advice is to let the mix set for 15 minutes before baking, the liquid absorbs more and your cake will be even more moist! I will be using Pamela's for a long time!
- light & fluffy pancakes
     By A1V1MCQRY4VODZ on 2006-07-07
Pamela's pancake mix makes light, fluffy & tasty pancakes and waffles. My husband says they look just like his (glutened) pancakes. I was absolutely thrilled to find a mix that is this good. I was frustrated having to make them from scratch all the time, and not having a very good pancake to eat. I have also used it to make Pamela's recipe for scones. These are delicious. Thanks so much.
- Amazing Cake mix
     By A1K827HOSZG48I on 2006-07-17
I was completely surprised when one of my customers brought this cake mix to me to use for their wedding cake, I made it and it was wonderful. They paid $5.25 per mix, so once I realized how easy it is to use and how wonderful it is I began my search and was so excited to find it at such a good price. I tried mixing in different ways, according to package directions and also separating the eggs and beating the whites and folding them in as the final step in preparation. It was an effort to see how much height I could get. Beating the whites separately did give a little more height, but all in all I determined it was not worth the extra trouble. It is wonderful as it. I used one mix in a 10 inch square pan, baked three layers and stacked them. It made a very tall, nice, rich brownie-like cake. I don't need gluten-free but am so crazy about this mix I have a case now, for my personal use. I highly recommend it.
- Great Bread
     By A60TPGOUVWCSM on 2006-07-31
I used this to make bread in my bread machine. At last a gluten-free loaf of bread that does not crumble! This bread is more like wheat bread than any other mix or recipe that I have tried.
- Wow, this is truly amazing!
     By A20O4LXU2BS57M on 2006-03-29
After recently finding out my daughter has food allergies, I have been searching for foods that she will eat and love, especially bread. As a mother, I don't want her to feel deprived. I made this bread on the weekend and it was gone in 2 days. It's wonderful! In order to make the experience less traumatic we have removed all of the foods that she cannot eat from our household... wheat, dairy, & egg. Pamela gives specific instructions for making this bread dairy and egg free. We all love it. In fact my younger daughter (age 2) was extremely [read fit-throwing] upset this morning that we were out of the bread we made. We're instant fans. Thanks Pamela!
- Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou
     By A183ZZOD89H3A2 on 2006-08-02
Thank you for making a pancake mix that makes really great pancakes and tastes just as good !!! We were using a different brand of pancake mix and the pancakes were flat and tasteless, so
we thought "what's to lose?" if we try another brand. It is sometimes hard to find Pamela's products on the shelves, but we persevered and now we can get them on Amazon, thankyou, thankyou, thankyou.
- Bread is back!!!
     By A1FRKU0JPW4JM9 on 2006-09-11
I just baked a loaf of this bread in my new bread machine (the machine is zojishuri or something) and it came out FANTASTIC! It is light and fluffy, but NOT crumbly like so many store bought GF breads. I added some italian seasoning and onion powder to make it a savory bread. I can't wait to make more bread with this mix!!
I gave this product 5 stars because as far as I can tell it has no short-comings! (I did slice and freeze the loaf because GF breads are notorious for going stale quickly).
- Far from luscious...
     By ACBWHBWRJBETQ on 2007-03-29
I have eaten other Pamela products and have been really impressed with the quality. I was really disappointed with the luscious chocolate cake mix. It was decent at best when fresh and a few hours later when the cake had cooled down the texture changed and it became really dense and chewy, very unpalatable. I spit out the bite I had taken and threw the rest of the cake away.
- best bread mix on the market
     By A3UG1KBRLW3WME on 2007-08-04
I have been using this mix for about 8 months now. It makes all types of incredibly good breads. I throw in all sorts of things such as nuts, cranberries, raisons, etc for variations. I have added ground almonds or peanuts for a hearty filling bread. I have purchased and tried about 20 other mixes and many were inedible so it was such a treat to find this mix. I set my bread maker for just plain white bread. I do not use the gluten free setting since the white bread setting gives me the best bread.
- Best gluten free bread mix
     By A3BHXAR2J66N75 on 2006-05-18
My wife and son have gluten allergies and most gluten free bread is quite dense and/or dry. Pamela's Amazing bread is not only moist, it is light and fluffy. I am a wheat eater, and I love this bread. By far the beast gluten free bread (mix) I have ever tried.
- It isn't so much this item as it is all the listings---I want to buy less than case lots.

It isn't so much this item as it is all the listings---I want to buy less than case lots.Amazon story of opening grocery sales was carried on the news. They said smaller lots are available---I cannot find any--So either way--if you do carry smaller lots the website needs to be reworked to make them easier to find OR you need to actually carry smaller lots.ind them
- If you have to go gluten-free, pamela's is the best.

The best of the gluten-free pancake mixes for sure and taste just as good as the wheat pancake mixes. I eat these sometimes as a snack with no syrup.

This is the best bread mix, I have found so far. And buying it through Amazon, saved me $10.00.
- The Best
     By A2OONF6P683W69 on 2006-08-25
I recently found out that i was allergic to gluten and shouldn't eat wheat. I thought "fun with food" was over for me, b/c almost everything is made from wheat. I was soooooooo pleased to find Pamela's Ultimate, the pancakes are the best. I think they're better than Aunt Jemima's brand. I eat mine with pink grapefruit marmalade or maple syrup. Finally comfort food that's healthy too.
- The best gluten free bread yet.
     By A1L895VANW3NTG on 2007-01-10
This bread is very easy to make. It can be made in a bread machine or in the traditional way. It doesn't crumble, has a good consistency and taste. I've tried many kinds but this is the one I keep on hand all the time. It freezes well (in slices), too.
- awesome brownies - pancake mix is really good too!
     By A2X663MMJ0XYKQ on 2007-02-09
i have tried 3 pamela's products: the brownie mix, the pancake mix and the bread mix. first the brownies -- best i've ever tasted - i'm addicted to these things! i tried doing the applesauce substituted for oil and i don't recommend that - the brownies were too dry. the oil recipe is definitely the best -- also substituting espresso for water was yummy -- the pancake mix is really good too. i've made the pancakes and the waffles - the waffles are the best i've ever tasted, with or without gluten. my co-worker used the pancake mix as a substitute in a regular recipe that called for all-purpose flour and said it worked great. finally, the bread - my friend made me a loaf of bread in her bread machine and it was pretty good --not dry like most gluten-free products. the only thing was that when i tried to toast it, the bread remains moist - it won't toast! weird...anyway, i recommend all three products and buying them off amazon will save you $1.50 - $2.00 off the package price at the supermarket! A++++ on these products!

Hey celiacs, this is the best bread I've found by far. I make it at home with a hand mixer, it's simple to make and nondairy. Moreover, it's so tasty that nonceliac friends like to eat it too (but I rarely let them). Well worth the cost.
- Pamela's Wheat -Free Amazing Bread mix
     By A2C5GGOSNFSQPZ on 2007-05-07
This makes unusually good bread that is bendable and chewy and a hint of sweetness probaby from the sorghum grain they use. It makes really good, "normal" pizza crust and flatbread too. My favorite GF mix. Also dairy free.
- Love it
     By A2O7DAZHBH57VF on 2007-05-17
I love Pamelas Baking Mix. We use it all the time for my son with Celiac Disease. He loves the pancakes but also muffins and banana bread. We also use it for chocolate chip cookies and really yummy cornbread Pamela's web site has some great recipes for the mix and some helpful baking hints. You can substitute it for flour in your regular recipes - just account for the baking powder and other ingredients that are already in the mix.
