Here are a few things to keep in mind: Expect the Worst In general, it's wise to choose a tent that's designed to withstand the worst possible conditions you think you'll face. For instance, if you're a summer car camper in a region where weather is predictable, an inexpensive family or all-purpose tent will likely do the trick--especially if a vehicle is nearby and you can make a mad dash for safety when bad weather swoops in! If you're a backpacker, alpine climber, or bike explorer, or if you like to car camp in all seasons, you'll want to take something designed to handle more adversity. Three- and Four-Season Tents For summer, early fall, and late spring outings, choose a three-season tent. At minimum, a quality three-season tent will have lightweight aluminum poles, a reinforced floor, durable stitching, and a quality rain-fly. Some three-season tents offer more open-air netting and are more specifically designed for summer backpacking and other activities. Many premium tents will feature presealed, taped seams and a silicone-impregnated rain-fly for enhanced waterproofness. For winter camping or alpine travel, go with a four-season model. Because they typically feature more durable fabric coatings, as well as more poles, four-season tents are designed to handle heavy snowfall and high winds without collapsing. Of course, four-season tents exact a weight penalty of about 10 to 20 percent in trade for their strength and durability. They also tend to be more expensive. Domes and Tunnels Tents are broadly categorized into two types, freestanding, which can stand up on their own, and those that must be staked down in order to stand upright. Freestanding tents often incorporate a dome-shaped design, and most four-season tents are constructed this way because a dome leaves no flat spots on the outer surface where snow can collect. Domes are also inherently stronger than any other design. Meanwhile, many three-season models employ a modified dome configuration called a tunnel. These are still freestanding, but they require fewer poles than a dome, use less fabric, and typically have a rectangular floor-plan that offers less storage space than a dome configuration. Many one- and two-person tents are not freestanding, but they make up for it by being more lightweight. Because they use fewer poles, they can also be quicker to set up than a dome. Size Matters Ask yourself how many people you'd like to fit in your fabric hotel now and in the future. For soloists and minimalists, check out one-person tents. If you're a mega-minimalist, or if you have your eye on doing some big wall climbs, a waterproof-breathable bivy sack is the ticket. Some bivy sacks feature poles and stake points to give you a little more breathing room. Also, if you don't need bug protection and you want to save weight, check out open-air shelters. Families who plan on car camping in good weather can choose from a wide range of jumbo-sized tents that will accommodate all your little ones with room to spare. A wide range of capacities is also available for three- and four-season backpacking and expedition tents. Remember, though, the bigger the tent you buy, the heavier it will be, although it's easy to break up the tent components among several people in your group. It's also helpful to compare the volume and floor-space measurements of models you're considering.

Great, solid tent By A12G9EMNL5VJIN on 2006-07-28
We camp 20-30 nights a year and just declared our old tent "dead". Bought the Wenger Lugano and are pleasantly surprised at how sturdy it is. We often camp in windy areas and will feel very safe in this one.
The tent is very easy to put up. All verticle poles are same length and all archway poles are, as well. Very, very easy to set this one up.
My favorite aspect of the tent is the terrific headroom for someone who is 6'1". Least favorite: Sewn-in room divider. I don't always like the tent divided into two areas.
Great for camping By A1UMIMGVENYYPB on 2006-08-14
This tent is easy to put up and take down. There was plenty of room for five of us. It is well made and stood up to the different weather we had in the mountains. The tent folded into a reasonable size bag. I can't wait to use it again!
Fantastic!!!! By A1FR4U5Q2D10R8 on 2006-07-17
Easy to set up (15 minutes top!) excelet quality, one full day under the rain and it was perfectly dry inside. Lots of big windows keep the tent nice and cool.
Huge tent. Clever design in some ways. Big hassle to set up and stow. By A2EGREBX94GUFH on 2007-02-24
This is a really big tent. It seems to be reasonably well-made, and has nice features like an interior divider, multiple doors, and a "doormat". The setup instructions are printed on a flap that's permanently attached to the storage bag. The design is a hybrid between the bulky but sturdy "family" tent and the lightweight "dome" tent. It is built like an oversized dome tent, except that the fiberglass hoops are replaced with steel "ribs". The ribs are partially shock-corded together. The design works well: the tent is quite usable once it is up, doesn't take a ton of space to store, and doesn't need three people to lug around like most family tents. The space inside is high and enormous, more like an RV or an efficiency apartment than a typical tent. Almost every panel can be zippered open or closed, so the tent can seem more like a private room or a screen porch.
However, setting this puppy up in anything but a light breeze can be a real challenge. You must roll out and stake down all of the corners of the tent before doing anything else, and it'll imitate a parachute--a big parachute--while you're busy with the stakes. If you're on ground that's too hard to easily drive the stakes into or too soft to hold them, you're SOL. Finding a level and smooth area big enough to handle the tent's footprint can be a trick at some campsites. It takes two people to put up the ribs, as the parts don't lock together and want to fall apart while you're pulling up the tent roof with them, but once they're up, the tent is pretty stable. Wrapping the ends of the rib parts with duct tape to make the fit between them more snug helps a lot. (I think that if Wenger had designed the rib parts to rigidly lock together, putting up this tent would be far easier.)
Finally, putting the tent away in anything more than a breeze is really fun. It is also *extremely* difficult to roll and fold tightly enough to get the tent into the storage bag, never mind the rib parts, stakes, doormat, or fly. A few spare compression straps help a lot. As does a willingness to get down on the ground and wrassle with the tent.
Overall, a good and clever tent that could be excellent with better design work. If you like to stand up and walk around in your tent, this is one of the cheapest options out there, and arguably one of the better ones. If you're looking for a family tent that is easy to set up and stow, keep looking; this tent can be a real handful. (If you're willing to live with a camo look and no floor, some of the larger "hub"-based quick-setup hunting blinds might make an acceptable alternative.)
Wenger Tent By AZEXG627XKWUP on 2006-07-09
I just got back from camping with this tent.. I also purchased a tent locally for my children to use. The Wenger tent has such superior quality over the other brand name tent, I was impressed. Thanks again, for helping me find a great deal on such a great product!
- Great deal, okay tent.
     By A19S6DR1DPM6CI on 2007-02-06
We needed a large tent, and this one was $60 during the deal a day promo before Christmas.
Here are the dings:
-The fabric is not ripstop
-The tent requires staking down, which means you need ground that will hold the stakes. (No loose dirt, no concrete, etc)
-The bag is HUGE, and still very hard to fit everything back into it.
The plus:
-The tent is HUGE.
- Easy to put up, great in the rain & HUGE
     By A1IZXY0XV39M5N on 2007-07-17
This tent is GREAT!!
We meant to put it up beforehand & apply seam sealer (as I do with any new tent) but we did not have the chance. As it turns out it didn't matter a bit.
Even having NEVER seen the tent intructions, we easily put it up in 20-30 minutes. It actually took longer to put up our dinning fly than it did to raise the tent. As we were putting up the tent it started raining. As we finished & put in our gear, it started POURING. We all sat in it for a good half an hour while a thunderstorm raged outside. It was humid outside & in, but we were DRY. When we took the tent down after 4 days there was water in between the ground tarp & the tent(I always use a separate tarp under) but we and all our stuff were fine.
There is a canopy with a mat that easily fits a chair or 2 while still keeping you dry. The zippers didn't stick at all. All the doors & windows have ties to keep them up/down. It has great ventalation. There is a 'muddy shoe' zippered compartment next to the door, but I use it to keep all the tent bags, extra stakes, et al together.
We did have extra stakes & pleanty of rope included. Square poles are helpful too.
And it is SO spacious. We had a queen air bed & room for our gear in 1 room, 3 kids and all their stuff in the other, with plenty of room to spare. There is even a 'back door' on the side so you don't have to walk all the way through the tent to get to the back room. (or walk over sleeping bodies to get out the front)
When we were done it came down fast & easily fit in the bag it came with.
It is sturdy, waterproof & well made.
We plan to use this tent happily for years to come.
- Good Value
     By A1YUXUBCA4SQY6 on 2007-01-16
We like this tent. We camp out just about every other weekend when the weather is good and have been doing so for about 10years now. Along the years we have used different types of tents mostly the ones with fiberglass poles and I can say that this 'rigid-type' pole setup is pretty sturdy and well constructed. The tent is really easy to set up and dismantle, has plenty of room for a family of four and the build quality is pretty good. The place that we live does not see a lot of rainfall so water proofing is not a major issue. However we did notice that on very cold nights with high humidity condensation does tend to form around the seams inside the tent. The anchoring pegs that come with the tent are a bit on the light-duty side but most tents seem to have the same issue; just get some heavy duty pegs and you are ready to go. Though I give this a 4-star rating, I am already considering ordering another set as back-up. That's how much we like this tent.

     By A20224BPB9TDT7 on 2007-01-19
Nice spacious tent with two rooms. Problem is the footprint necessary to set up tent. You must find a large enough camp spot for this tent. It's worth finding the right spot. I use the extra room for comfort, like inflatable furniture.
- Sweet Tent!
     By A1X8VGVEYGDM4Z on 2007-01-03
I purchased this tent before Christmas and was skeptical of the great reviews that it got. I thought it may be too good to be true. Let's just say that I'm VERY pleased with it. It was very, very easy to put up, easier than smaller "dome" tents. It's perfect for any type of camping(except backpacking since it's large). For summer camping you can unzip most of the walls to let the air flow. The divider between the rooms can be unzipped and tied back, or you can use it to make 2 separate rooms. All windows and walls that can be unzipped have built in ties so they neatly roll up. Also really liked the 2 entry ways and the "porch" for extra cover. The quality and care that was put into this tent is amazing!
- Great tent, complements from all, best Amazon buy ever!!
     By AAAFFVZC2FCG8 on 2007-02-14
If any of you got this during the Amazon wish list event during Christmas, you knonw how great a deal it was. I love this tent. It is HUGE!! I used it twice so far, and everyone loves it. Basically a portable house for 6 comfortably. I had a full size mattress in one of the two identically sized rooms and still had about a three foot border all around it. You can open all the windows for a true outdoors experience or close everything up and stay completely dry. Nice duffel to carry it in also.
- It's big, and it leaks.
     By A3827XF05EZTA2 on 2007-05-17
Shipping time was excellent and tent has room for my husband, me, our two year old, our dog, a king air bed and a child's air bed, plus gear. This pretty much fills it up, but we aren't packed like sardines.
Set the tent up the first time in the yard for practice. I put it up and broke it down by myself - super simple. For one person to be able to easily assemble a steel-pole tent says a lot about the tent's ease of use. The 2nd time I set up the tent (camping this time), we had a moderate rain overnight. This tent leaked from every seam, every zipper, nearly everywhere. Chinese water torture, anyone? The only place the tent didn't leak was the floor, so the floor did an excellent job of holding in all the rain! Nice big mess. Splash splash, our two year old had a lot of fun. It's a good sized tent, therefore it holds a good sized amount of water!
I can't tell that this tent is much different from a cheap-o you could buy at KMart or WalMart. Maybe the folks who are raving about it don't have a lot of rain where they live. In addition, the fabric does not strike me as terribly sturdy.
I really did like the mesh ceiling - assuming you could guarantee no rain during your camping trip, the idea of being able to leave off the "rain fly" (hah.) and see stars at night sounds pretty neat.
The necessity, however, of having to lug along an extra tarp to string up above the tent in order to stay dry is really, really disappointing.
I don't recommend it for family camping; it's just not worth the hassle.
- best i ever had
     By A17KXJA0OK8UBP on 2007-06-08
i have bin camping for 30 years. let me tell you i had a lot of tents. this is by far the best. it went up in a flash. with all the windows open its great to watch all the stars. we even had a hard rain all night and not i drop of water inside. dont think twice bye this tent.
- Sturdy construction, Quick set-up....
     By A1CZ7PH2JNRUCL on 2007-06-19
This tent is fantastic! Heavy-duty metal tube stock poles are sturdy and allow the tent to go up literally in minutes. With the rain flaps unzipped, it is more like a screen room to maximize breezes on warm days. At 16x10 feet there is ample room to move around and the 'stand-up' height is always a big plus! The ground mat is a nice feature for helping keep dirt/leaves, etc. from getting tracked inside the tent. Because of the slope of the tent front, the canopy awning just allows you to get a step or two out of the rain, but it does help shade the interior as the sun moves around the sky. Overall, I am very happy with this product.
If there is a drawback, its the carry/storage bag. It is much to tight of a fit, requiring precise folds and a lot of 'compaction' when folding up the tent for storage; but this a a minor flaw considering that the tent is such a great product. I solved this problem by switching out totes with another tent that I have.
- GREAT DEAL
     By A14BLNECPJ3U2C on 2007-06-22
This tent hits every single point of concern I could possibly have when deciding if I made a good purchase. It has already outperformed tents costing 3 times.( I have a few of those) Wenger just knows its business and delivers. I recommend this tent with no reservation at all. This is the family tent to beat in the under $250.00 catagory. I agree completely with the prior reviewer.
- An Outdoor Mansion
     By A22AD8M2SSOFHJ on 2007-07-31
I was a little skeptical that a tent this large could be easy to set up. Needless to say I was skeptical this tent would look as good as the pictures. After taking everything out of the package I was amazed how quickly everything came together. The tent took roughly 30 minutes with two people to set up. Everything is made very well with the poles being much stronger than in previous tents of mine.
Once the tent is set up you have outdoor living at it's best. The tent comes with several windows that make it stay cool during the day. It even has a mat to wipe dirt off your shoes. I was amazed how large this thing is. Room for several adults or many children. We had three adults and two dogs with plenty of room to spare.
For anyone looking for a quality tent at a superb price this is it....
- Great Deal! Great Buy!!!
     By A11OG1XXE4Y6M1 on 2007-01-20
The tent is definitely very nice, spacious, and easy to set up. It is equipped well enough for rough weather. The only difficulty was rolling it back up, but i would absolutely recommend this purchase to anyone. A great investment!!!!!
- Very Roomy
     By A1IOHZ9UDTSM1X on 2007-05-25
Fairly easy to assemble by 1 person. Very roomy, we can stand up in it and all 4 of us-2adults, 2small children-can fit in 1room with a queen air mattress and each child with their sleeping bag air mattress. Nice that it has 2 entries so if someone is sleeping in one room you don't have to pass over them.
- Easy set up, sturdy tent!
     By A38IU8ZIRP7NGF on 2007-05-29
This tent is huge and easy to set up. Roll it out, stake it down, put in the poles, and it's up. Easy to take down, as well. On our first trip out, it endured some very high winds (20 - 30 mph) and passing rainstorms and withstood both without incident. Very pleased with this tent.
- Liked by a tent snob!
     By A3KI3UCV4RD7YB on 2007-10-01
No kidding I have owned over twelve tents in my life. I normally stick with the high end name brands, such as Kelty or The North Face but I purchased this tent to accommodate myself and two large dogs without paying a fortune.I set this tent up by myself and without any problems in 10 minutes or less. I am 5'6" female. I staked it down, inserted and assembled poles and erected it. I liked that every window has a panel option so you can control light, ventilation or privacy. The poles are sturdy and there are three sets of poles that are identical which takes much of the guesswork out of assembly. I cannot foresee the poles ever bending. In the bag, it's a lug to carry and the tent is hard to roll small enough to fit in the bag. If you have kids or dogs, this tent is a charm. There is plenty of room for you, your family, your dogs, and your gear. You will like being able to see out on each side. A complaint I do have is that the rainfly does not provide good coverage for rain and it would seem like the tent sides, about mid pole area, would have a loop to go around the poles but it does not, so the sides sag in a little bit. Overall this tent is great, surprised me very much considering it's price, and you should not hesitate to buy it.
- Thumbs Up
     By A3O6S9MFGRKJW2 on 2007-08-01
Yes, I have this tent and purchased it for a summer of state park camping. I personally like it because it's like a giant screen room with a tent floor. If it rains, you can seal it up quick and it doesn't leak, at least in my experience. That is, unless you keep the roof off as you drift off looking at the stars. THEN you're in for a soaking suprise. I've figured out how to do most all of these things alone (single mom style) It's simple to assemble but you need someone to assist in raising it up. I've already figured out how to put the canapy on top alone and to take it down and fold it tight enough to stick in the small bag it goes in. The bag is small so don't be lazy rolling it up! Also, I'd say that four people can fit comfy in it and five would be pushing it. It will of course sleep more, but there'd be no floor room. This is if you use inflatable mattresses. For sleeping bags only, you can fit more people. So for a 4-5 person family on mats it's fine. 8 people? Uhmm. No. I like the two doors and the shady awning, though it's a little small, it does help. The tent is well made and I've heard some nice comments on it. So it's met my expectations which were- simple, screen room/tent effect, large & tall enough (I'm 5'9 it's fine), water proof and not too heavy to lug around from car to camp. It's worth the price!
- We love this new tent !
     By A3VYS6REZ57P1T on 2008-01-12
Having read 30+ reviews on this tent, I couldn't wait to check it out, so I set it up in the yard the day after it arrived. It took us just 18 minutes to set it up on our first try (while one of us was reading the directions) The tent is HUGE! You can actually enter the tent by slightly stooping over vs. crawling in on hands and knees. Very roomy!
I set up a 3x3 card table and two lawn chairs in it and still had room for 4-5 people and gear. The room divider is is nice with the zipper.
If you don't need or like the divider, simply unzip it and tie it back out of the way. All the windows (9 of them) are a huge plus. Unzip all the windows, and it turns into a screen house. Very cool. I put it up on a windy day, and left it up for several hours. It held up to the wind just fine. The steel poles are very sturdy, and easy to put together. One of my favorite assets of the tent so far, are the snag free zippers. Here's where I got really skeptical! I already have 4 tents on the shelf in the garage with zipper issues. If you have kids, and do a lot of camping, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. These zippers are more heavy duty than any I've seen yet, and they don't have that little flap of material over them that almost always ends up stuck in the zipper. I took the tent down by myself in the same wind that I put it up in. No real problems here. I just folded it up so the width was the same as the length of a pole section. You do have to compress it while you roll it up (as you do with any tent), and it all fit back into the same bag it came out of on the first shot. I really like the design, size, colors, and overall quality of this tent!!! We do a LOT of camping. Anywhere from 8 to 12 trips a year. Most trips are 2-3 day trips, with a couple 7 day trips as well. Most all our camping trips are in remote and primitive areas with no facilties. I am not at all worried about finding a site to accomidate the size of this tent. We can't wait to take it out for the first time. Rain, sleet, snow, or shine, we're planning to go next weekend for the first trip of the new year! (01/18/08)

- Big tent but holes

- BIG tent, perfect for the average car camper
     By A2FOTE7LW7WQXJ on 2007-07-16
Bought this tent after Christmas '06. I just got back from a camping trip using this tent and am VERY impressed. I did a dry run and set it up in my backyard last week. Extremely easy to setup. It can be put up by 1 person, 2 make it easier. I like the poles being square tubing. 99% of the new tents use fiberglass poles. The poles for this tent are sturdier in my opinion. Once it was up I couldn't believe how big this tent is. This time camping was just my wife, son and myself but could have fit another family of 4 in the other half. The tent is separated by a sewn-in ripstop wall. It can be unzipped making 1 big area. We used it as a 2-room, so the bedroom area can be cleaner and the other room for changing and keeping our gear. Quality of the materials and construction is excellent.
- Love this tent!
     By A2DJDWV2ELUF6X on 2007-07-31
After reading all the reviews on cabin tents and driving myself half mad on which one I should purchase, I decided to purchase the Wenger Family tent. I just used it this weekend in New Hampshire and loved it!
It was easier to put up than any small dome tent. I was able to put this by myself within 15 minutes while my husband watched our daughter. Love all the windows and being able to walk around in it without bending down. Yes the divider in the middle really isn't necessary but when you tie it back you can take a paper clip or chip clip to push it back further and it works perfect. I would recommend this tent to anyone. Best buy!
- Oh yeah!

Won this during the Christmas fiasco of "Vote for Deal of the week". Yeah so I voted for this bad boy and got it for forty bucks!! Can't go wrong. The box is super huge and heavy that it came in. Honestly haven't used it yet, but regardless for the price amazing purchase. When we use it, I will update with actual product review.
- Wenger Lugano 16- by 10-Foot Family Tent
     By A30G1CF4FYDJI4 on 2007-07-09
Wenger Lugano 16- by 10-Foot Two-Room Eight-Person Family Tent with Canopy This tent was a big hit. I shopped for a tent with good ventilation and it was definitely well ventilated. My granddaughter, a friend and I used it at Ichthus while camping with many other families. The porch was a nice feature for relaxing in the shade for my morning coffee. The only drawback that I see with this tent is that the storage bag is too small. There was a small tear in the netting but the tent was quickly replaced. I love the Wenger Lugano 16- by 10-Foot Family tent.
