I was disappointed that it holds a cake 10" x 4", which is not in the product description. Once I received it, I saw the cake dimensions on the manufacturer's label. I thought it could be used for higher layer cakes.

I am sorry to hear that the previous reviewer had such a bad experience with her caddy- because I absolutely love mine!
I have severe arthritis and the locks on the side are easy enough for even me to use! If I take the recomended step of dabbing a dot of frosting down before I place my goodies on the tray they don't slide around at all anymore!
The unit seals tightly keeping my goodies fresher longer (I use my glass cake dome and cakes go stale in one day).
As for clean up- I throw it in the dishwasher and it cleans like a dream. I will admit though that being a cake decorator I always decorate my cakes on a cardboard round (I actually use reusable disks that my hubby cut for me that I cover with wrapping paper to look good)- the reason I am rambling about this is that I don't cut cakes directly on the base (or any other cake plate for that matter) so it never really gets that dirty anyway.
Bottom line: I use the heck out of my cake caddy!
Pricey for an item that's $19, isn't it?

No. The product is not very durable
Good things:
All in all, this caddy is great because it's versatile. It's huge and tall enough so a 12.5" round cake that's about 5 inches high can fit in easily. The locking mechanism is also pretty neat. There's 3 of them so it makes it very easy to carry without any fuss of the cake dropping on the floor. The handle of the carrier also gives a comfortable grip. Carrier is also see through so you'll notice if the decorations have been messed up during the transporting process.
NOT so Good things:
NOT very durable. Locking mechanism that holds the base of the carrier may crack making it non portable.
This product is susceptible to breakage perhaps because certain stores just have had these items on their shelf for a long time-- that's only my assumption. Plastic should not crack unless it's placed in extreme temperatures or is abused. Should the temperature in the fridge crack a plastic? Very unlikely don't you think?
The price is also far cry compared to other products sold by discount stores (i.e Linens../WlMrt. Other carriers are sold from $4-$9.
The height is good but it can be problematic when storing it in the fridge, but aren't all cakes difficult to store regardless?
In terms of cleaning the base, you'll need a brush to really get the bottom cleaned up.

The locking latches are great. The single handle at the top is much easier to carry than other carries that have handles on the sides, needing two hands. The dome doubles as elevation for the tray. Excellent product.
Just the ticket

Sure, I would have liked one of those Art Deco metal cake keepers that I see at the antiques and collectible malls, but they aren't airtight by a long shot. And they have knobs on top, no handles. So I bit the aesthetic bullet and got plastic, and it is fine. This can accommodate a large cake. It is sturdy plastic, with 3 easy side locks that work well and do not seem to be fragile. I recommend cutting out a piece of non-skid waffle-textured shelf-liner to fit the bottom. I did this and my glass cake plate and the cake atop it stayed in place when I swung it around to test it. It should travel well. The seller shipped immediately. Standard shipping got it to the house in just 2 days.

I recently bought this item and have had nothing but good luck with it. I use it weekly for my cake decorating class at Michael's. It does keep cakes fresh for quite some time.
I'm also sorry to hear about the other reviewers bad luck with this product. I only wash mine by hand, and I also use cake squares and circles to prevent any build-up of dried-up cake on the base. I would highly recommend this product, as with most Wilton products!

What can I say? It is plastic, has great latches, and works great. I wish they had a comparable pie product, where you could carry two or more pies at once.
These are impossible to find locally - but arrived in about 4 days (during Chritmas no less) from Target.
