2-year-old tired of it quickly By A294QF4132TZSP on 2006-09-20
We received this as a 2-year birthday gift. When my son gets something new that he likes, he doesn't put it down for days. His interest in this lasted about 10 minutes. We are returning it, and will try a different computer-like toy.
The mouse is difficult to use, and personally I think having the upper- and lowercase letters on the same button is distracting. The screen is really small, and the top/cover snaps to a 90-degree angle and about a 45-degree angle, so he could never quite see it properly when sitting on his lap. Once, he lay on the floor to see the screen. That alone was enough for me to reject it--I hope to find one with an infinitely adjustable cover, like my own laptop.
He has a similar toy without a screen, the Alphabet Apple by V-Tech, which amuses him for a good 30 minutes in the car. If the "Laughtop" had cost $11.99, I'd be more forgiving, but for the price I expect more.
good toy with one little problem By A2T7SFV2NG6UZ2 on 2006-10-22
Someone got this toy for my son and he loves it and plays with it constantly. The complaint that I have is that every time the letter Q comes up, instead of the toy saying just the letter "Q" the toy says the sound and then the letter which come out like "qua Q" which sounds JUST like F**K Y*U!! the letter U comes out pretty much the same as "UH U"
My kid keeps repeating "Qua Q" all the time, even to strangers and I get the worst looks from people!!!
I'd love to complain directly to fisher price but all they have is a phone number, no email, so I'm reluctant.
Helpful Learning Toy and Entertaining By AE3089XLYVPEL on 2007-10-03
My 3 y.o. son got this as a gift three days ago and he LOVES it. He likes that he can choose the games himself and I notice that he's even begun to really recognize letters already. My only complaint is that the "mouse" is difficult to operate and it can be frustrating for him while playing the games that require him to use the mouse (fortunately, not all the games do need the mouse). I'm hoping that with use it will loosen up.
Fun on a limited scale---best part is how it looks! By A3DFH4CKPIT0N9 on 2008-03-30
My daughter is 3, and has been diagnosed as autistic (although we are not really sure at this point) and has narrow interests in toys. We bought this because she spotted it at a toy store and immediately said "I want to push it! I want to push the ABC letters! I want that computer!". It was one of the longest speeches she has made ever, so of course I had to buy it. I think it appealed to her because it really does look a lot like a laptop computer, exactly the kind of thing she isn't allowed to touch much at home as she has a natural gift for erasing files and changing major settings!
I can't say as I think she will really get long use out of it, however. It is a pretty limited toy---you push the letters and it says them, and their sound, and shows a picture, another mode plays a short bit of music for different keys, and lets the top keys be like a piano, another mode plays games which are beyond her at this point, but I really doubt many self-respecting 7 year olds would have any interest in---I think they are reaching a bit to say the top age for this toy is 7! However, she has played with it a fair amount so far.
It's pretty durable, it has to be to last around here. She has dropped it quite a few times and it hasn't skipped a beat.
One annoying thing---when you are playing with it and stop, the voice asking you to keep playing has the most sarcastic tone! I would like toys to model NICE manners!
Overall, fun as a computer substitute.
She enjoys it! By ALDS68U6GKONG on 2006-11-28
My almost 3 year old has autism and she really enjoys this toy even though some of the features are advanced for her right now. For example the two games that you can play with the mouse, a "pong" style and the maze game are beyond her now but she'll have that new discovery in the future.
With the two screen positions she can see fine and I can see the screen even when she's in the floor a distance away. It's not too small and it is intense enough to be acceptable for play. She really enjoys the "raining letters" game where they fall from the clouds and you must push the corresponding letter on the keyboard so the onscreen one drops in the water bucket. All the games have several levels of difficulty.
The feature she enjoys the best is the composer setting where you can play it like a keyboard and there are visuals to match onscreen.
She does not become bored easily with this toy and it was worth the price and is durable and portable.

Great concept....and at first my 3 year old used it a lot. She was able to work on her laptop while I worked on mine. But, we quickly realized that the mouse was not working properly (after the box had been thrown away). The LCD screen is a little on the small side too. If it were me, I would wait and purchase another brand or wait until this one was perfected a little better.
- Great toy for preschoolers
     By APZ8TNSNIBENP on 2006-12-03
I purchased this toy for my 2 1/2 year old son before a long plane trip to visit his grandma. He absolutely loves it and has played with it every day since we bought it. He is now three and he knows all of his letters and sounds. He also plays the mouse games very well -- I am amazed at how this "computer" has improved his eye-hand coordination. My only complaint (a minor issue) is that for the letter "x" the word is "fox" instead of something that actually starts with "x." Being a precocious three year old, my son refuses to believe that "fox" starts with "f." He always insists it starts with "x"! Other than that, this is a great toy that has provided us with hours of entertainment and is very educational.
- 2 Year old loves it!
     By A1SDDV3KYG16I2 on 2007-04-30
We bought this for my son's 2nd b-day even though the age reccomendation was 3+. He was mildly interested, but not ready for educational value the toy provides. At 2 an 1/2, this is one of his favorite toys and he is able to play all the games and knows almost all of his letters!! He blew me away the first time I watched him pick out each letter from his keyboard. Surely, he was matching up the picture of the letter at first, but I am confident that this toy helped him learn several of his letters by sight.
He also loves the mouse maze game. We did have some trouble with the mouse working, but my husband was able to fix it with minimal "surgery" and it's good as new.
The only trouble now is that he's mastered the tasks and we've had to move on to the VTech laptop because it has more variety and more challenging games. He still loves the Laughtop, though and we take it in the car in the evening because of the bonus of the lighted screen.
This is a good choice, although the price is a little high for the variety of activities.
- Amazing Results

I bought this toy for my 3 year old son to boost his letter recognition. He already knew the alphabet (or at least the song), but I had not tried teaching him letter recognition yet. My nephew had this laughtop, so my son has been asking for it for months. I finally bought it for him. Within a couple of days of using it, he recognized several letters (with absolutely no help from me). Within a week or two (which is how long I've had it), he knows pretty much all the letters (most upper and lower case, but struggles w/ some lower case), can tell you what word starts with each letter (or most letters) and can spell his name (which is only 4 letters). He loves the toy and takes it with us wherever we go. If he never touches it again, for him to have learned as much as he has now (with no help from me). I just gave him the "computer" and left him alone. My husband and I are amazed!
- This is worth the money!
     By A2D78GOF87ZVT0 on 2006-12-09
My son is only 18 months old when we got this toy because he loves the "grown-up" computer and laptop so much. We were hoping that typing on this keyboard would distract him from constantly trying to touch the real things. We thought he would play with the music feature and that he could grow into the more advanced letter and mouse games. While the toy hasn't worked for our original purpose (he still loves the real things better) it has taught him all of the letters and their sounds incredibly quickly! Within 3 days time he mastered the "raining letters" phonics game. He loves to play this game and is so proud when he finds the letters. He now knows his letters when I ask him to find one from his refrigerator magnet letters or when looking at a book with large print! He has been slow to talk so I love that he now tries to make all of his letter sounds too. He has no problem seeing the screen from any position. I love that it has both upper and lower case letters on the keys (this feature doesn't seem to confuse him). As a former teacher and a now stay-at-home mom I can't rave enough about this toy...
- Review for Fun 2 Learn Laughtop Laptop
     By A3ELD2R1UQQDXR on 2007-01-13
Seems to be made well to withstand abuse from my 2-yr-old. Nice that it has two volume levels. A great learning tool for toddlers and preschoolers. Way for them to associate letters on screen to letters on keyboard. Also teaches them how to control the mouse.
- Best "Real" Laptop Toy!
     By AD34TCPEP7P84 on 2008-01-19
My 18 m.o. son got this for Christmas after we told everyone how much he loves to bang on my laptop. This toy is not only one of his favorite toys, it is also the most realistic and educational "computer" for young kids. It has a working keyboard and screen, and has four levels of learning - letters, phonics, music and games. It also has 2 levels of sound as well as an off lever right on the keyboard. The mouse is attached and when you move it side to side it plays the alphabet song or when you click it, it will repeat the last selection. After about 2 minutes of inactivity, the laptop says, "laptop logging off!" and shuts off. It even looks like a real laptop - the screen folds down to close!
My son is still a little young for educational content on this laptop, but he loves to push the buttons and listen to the sounds. I highly recommend this toy for any 2-3 y.o. interested in computers or adult tech "toys"!
- Nice for the price
     By A17T2GWO0HZMU on 2008-02-06
We have found this toy to be:
1. Engaging-my 4yo son, who can navigate a real computer like a pro, is still entranced by having his own "computer."
2. Self-contained and portable-it gets carted lots of places; so far, so good. No cartridges to lose or destroy, no pages to bend.
3. Educational (in a limited way)-reinforces letter recognition and sounds. Fun-He enjoys the games, the funny pictures, getting "email," and the music maker (even big brothers & sis have fun with this part.)
4. Accessible-It's simple to use and manipulate.
5. Not overly annoying to adults-Two volume settings--thank you!
I expect the magic to wear off before a year, but we're getting great use out of it now, so that's ok with me. If you want something "educational" to teach your child to read, this is not it (try a few good books...you know, with pages and stuff.) Nor is it infinitely expandable for new levels of enjoyment. But if you're looking for a fun TOY with some educational benefit, I'd recommend this. (If you find it on sale, as I did, then I'd highly recommend it.)
- Great Learning Tool And Starter Computer!
     By A1Q9KZX1ZJ2OX on 2007-04-03
My son received this from his M'ma and Pop-pop for Christmas. He plays with it daily and learns more and more every time he's on it.
I feel that along with normal daily exposure to the basic development and language building blocks, alphabet, numbers, colors, etc. from your example, their world, other kids, and books... various educational toys will accelerate my sons understanding of the things he's going to need to succeed. This is one of the toys my son chooses to lie down with and figure out.
Another very impressive feature of the toy is the quality of construction. It's solid, heavy duty, resilient and well designed. I do encourage my son to play with it on the floor, but it has hit the floor from tables, couches, and his crib rail... that's not to guarantee that one of these times it will not destroy it!
And finally, HECK! He's two and he likes it!
- Favorite New Toy
     By A13WOFCH6PDHBE on 2007-07-13
My son (3) picked this out while browsing in Target. Usually he will look at toys while we shop and then put them back after a few minutes. Not this one. It made it all the way through the store and then he asked if "it could go home with us". He hasn't stopped playing with it since then. He already knows his letters, but he loves playing the game and matching up the letters. I would give it 5 stars, but the "mouse" doesn't do much besides make it repeat and the mouse game is pretty much impossible to win...I can't do it. But overall it is good for letter recognition. I wish that it helped them to start making words, but oh well. one thing at a time.
- He loves it...we hate it.
     By A14P3NFECN7OJP on 2007-07-19
Our son has loved this toy since it was generously "loaned" to us by a family member. We couldn't understand why they were so eager to let us borrow such a great toy...now we do. The voice of the computer is so annoying, grating, demanding and irritating that my husband and I imitate it regularly to torture each other.
But, as I said, our son loves it. We love our son, so we tolerate that insistent, maddening, saccharine pint-sized cyborg. It's nearly indestructible. A sippy cup accident killed one half of the keyboard but the half that still works is used daily.
- What a hit!
     By A146H6A41B26QT on 2007-10-25
We bought these computers for our two year old twin grandsons and they were an instant hit! After an elaborate birthday party with lots of fancy gifts, these computers were what they were playing with a day later. The boys spend a lot of time with Mom, books and flashcards, so they were ready for it--I think you need to carefully judge when a child is ready v. when the child will be bored or frustrated with it. After a day the boys were beginning to recognize a letter, the sound, and the little pictures that float across the screen for each letter, e.g., F--fish. The screen is black and white and very basic, but that didn't seem to bother them. The computer is relatively durable and easy to operate. I can see them outgrowing these toys in a few months but for this price that's OK.
- Great learning toy! My son loves it!
     By A34XT2FZUT6372 on 2008-10-28
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R2SL6O5YUF30X9 My son is 22 months and he ABSOLUTELY LOVES this laptop! He says it is his "puter" and he loves to carry it around with him. I like it because it's easy to travel with and we often take it to restaurants. It is durable, simple for him to operate, and he can now recognize letters Aa, Bb, Kk, Mm, Oo, Xx, and Zz (see video)! It's a bit expensive, but watch for sales. I found ours in August on Amazon.com for just under $20!
- Excellent product
     By A1VWOJNVMZJQN3 on 2007-01-10
This is an awesome learning and education toy. I would highly recommend it. I gifted it to my 2 yr old neice (a little under the age specified by the toy). However, this computer really helped her learn the alphabets and numbers and within weeks she was able to identify all the letters (Capital and small case). Two thumbs up for this "computer."
- everyone FAVORITE toy
     By AZOOWM9P8Q2T9 on 2008-01-15
My daughter got this for her third birthday and once she opened it, that was it. She didnt want to finish opening the rest of her gifts. Then once she started playing with it all the kids gathered around and someone was playing with it for about 4 hours straight. Every kid who comes over migrates to it - and also loves it. I only with they had numbers included. It is only letters and letter sounds with some games.
- Our 20-month old now knows his letters
     By A3O3X3XYEGUMTP on 2008-01-27
We got this for our son for Christmas in the hopes that he would have some interest in it to play with (he's been fascinated by our real laptop for some time, so we thought it would be nice for him to have his own). The Fun 2 Learn Laughtop says "Up to 7 Years" on it, so we thought it would last him a good long time. We thought maybe by the time he was turning three, he'd have his alphabet down. He mastered it in less than a month! Now he knows his upper and lowercase letters -- in fact, now he's fascinated with letters and points them out everywhere we go. This is all due to the Fisher Price Fun 2 Learn Laughtop. People are so impressed that our 20-month-old knows all his letters.
If there is any downside to it, it doesn't teach him to say his alphabet in order and it doesn't teach numbers, but that's fine by us. Well worth the investment, and it's launched his interest in letters and even numbers, despite not teaching the latter.
It also shuts itself off after a few minutes of non-use. Another huge plus. This is well worth $[...]. Highly recommended!
- 3 Year Old Daughter Loves This
     By A31BHX28NFZ3JN on 2006-12-29
My 3 year old daughter loves this little computer. She plays with it daily. In a matter of 3 weeks she has really mastered all of her upper and lower case letters. She enjoys the music and the games. I was sceptical of buying this at first, but it was well worth the money.
- Great laptop
     By A23B1WMAX5H0YV on 2007-01-01
This laptop is great. My 2 year old daughter absolutely loves it. She loves typing the letters and seeing them come up on the screen. She loves carrying it around too. We literally have to take it away from her before bedtime! It is also very durable because she defintely likes to throw it. I would definitely recommend it.
- My Three Year Old Loves It
     By A4SNZ3PXFDZ64 on 2007-01-03
It's very cute and very educational. The mouse isn't loose, so there's no chance of it getting pulled off. It is very kid friendly. My child's has been dropped and knocked and it still looks and works like brand new.
- Very entertaining for youngsters
     By A12EKQL5V6119Q on 2007-01-09
This item is very entertaining for youngsters. My 2.5 year old is enthralled with it and is getting better at recognizing her letters of the alpahbet thanks to toys like this. However, I don't like the green screen. It reminds me of computer screens from the late 80's.
- One of the nicest laptop on the market...
     By A2I7XZLTYYOD79 on 2007-10-03
Purchased this product for my daughters 3rd birthday after a recommendation from a friend. She plays with this quite a bit. It is NOT a toy that 3-year olds play with alone, but after awhile she is getting it down. It has four different features and she has learned letter recognition from this. It is not the most durable toy and the screen portion bends back and cracks if you push on it. The design for children should make this durable so that it doesn't break. It still works but the screen portion is flimsy! Recommend to purchase for over 2 1/2. Also, she received a Barbie laptop for her birthday too and this one is much better than the Barbie model!!!
- Good for our one-year old
     By A1KJEMGAHSY6B0 on 2007-10-12
We got this as a gift for our daughter's first birthday. I thought it was a silly gift for a one-year-old. I was wrong. She plays with it everyday. She is 19 months old and knows all of her letters!
My only complaint is minor. There is an arrow switch just to the left of the screen that she sometimes plays with. It changes the type of game that is played when the letters are pushed. She often moves it all the way down and then gets frustrated because it is hard for her to move it back up. This is likely our fault for letting a one-year-old play with a toy that is really meant for a child who is a little older and who might not have the same difficulties manuevering this arrow. This happens infrequently, so generally we are very happy we got this as a gift and very proud that she knows her alphabet already.
- Nice toy computer
     By A3VHI0VC0ZWEDX on 2007-11-08
Very good toy computer. Easy to use. Definitely a toy computer that will grow with a young child. My daughter is 3 and uses some of the features. She should be more comfortable with the rest as she gets older. It's lightweight and portable and great to take in the car.
- my son loves it.
     By A2EFYPB9SCZ5C1 on 2008-01-03
my son turned three in late december, and this isn't the first laptop for kids he has recieved, but this one is superior in targeting his age group. it is fun and there are cute graphics to go along with the letters....m for mouse, and so on. he easily grasped the maze game concept, and before i knew it he was feverishly using the mouse to move himself closer to the cheese in the game. if there is one complaint i can air it is the mouse itself is hard to use. it takes too much muscle for a little one, leading to frustration. i often have to step in to help him. even with my years of experience on this earth, i still couldn't always get the thing to work effectively. other than that, i think it is a great toy. the price is fair and my son really enjoys it.
- Computer
     By A30TNU0BDWLQLX on 2008-01-09
This is a good educational toy. My son just turned 2 and even though he can't play with the computer on his own, he will repeat the letters and play the games with an adult. This is really for an older child if you want them to play with it on their own.
