Slow start, but 18-month-old likes these now! By A1FM17QMGUAXN7 on 2007-07-16
I'd had my eye on these for a while, because our 18-month-old son loves music and has had a great time with the Laugh and Learn Piano from Fisher Price. When I finally received the maracas, though, he didn't seem at all interested. In fact, he seemed to dislike the noises they make. One is just a plastic maraca with shaker beads inside, which didn't much interest him. The other is a battery-powered one that lights different colors and has three settings (numbers, colors and music) in English and Spanish. After a while, he would pick up the one that has lights and sounds and check it out. Now he really seems to like it, although he gets bored if it's on the music setting, because it plays the same short refrain over and over again. (I get bored, too.) The reason I didn't give this toy five stars is because of the limited musical selections. All of the Fisher Price toys have numerous song options, which helps to toy to stay "fresh." This one only holds his attention for a few minutes at a time. I gave four stars for durability because we've only had them a month. In that time, though, he has chucked them around a fair amount, and they seem OK.
Awesome Toy! By A3QI2MPDPI3SA9 on 2007-01-18
I got these for my 1 year old Nephew for christmas, I wanted something he could grow with a bit but still enjoy now that was educational. He loved shaking the maracas and watching the colors change and he was even trying to mimic the voice counting colors and numbers a few times.
Definitely a great choice for any young kid who loves music.
Learn & Groove Counting Maracas By A1Z0B5X3NIF9QK on 2007-01-09
Bought this item for my recently year old twins. They love them. I was surprised to find that only one maraca was interactive. They are not very interested yet in the maraca that just rattles but I think this is a toy they will grow with. The twins love music so it is nice to be able to combine their love of music with learning.
I appreciate the fact that the maracas have a high and low setting for volume. I think the high volume is much too loud for a baby's ears.nw
Fun Maraca's By A1NZJX25M7EC4T on 2007-01-11
We purchased this for our 15 month old granddaughter for Christmas this year and she just loves them. She has more fun with these than anything else she received. They have various settings for learning numbers, colors, etc., which at this point we need to change for her. But, she'll bring them to us and ask us to change it to a different setting! She'll be enjoying and learning from this product for a long time. We're very impressed with this product!
Counting maracas - fun for several ages By A1352CCQNCWT2V on 2007-01-18
Both nephews, and both my kids, all different ages, were wild about these.
- It's the 1st toy my son grabs everyday!
     By A219866C08G219 on 2007-03-24
This is the 1st toy my son (age 1) grabs from his toy basket. He loves them. If he doesn't have both of them in his hands then he at least has one of the maracas. He has even turned the one on by himself a couple of times. If he can't get it turned on, he'll crawl over to me and hand it to me so I can turn it on. He loves to dance to the music as he shakes them.
- fun toy that's not too loud
     By A2EXKV9LBPCIB9 on 2006-12-18
I love this toy! Please do not purchase this toy for 50.00. You can find them at Wal-mart for around fifteen bucks. My 9 month old daughter loves to shake things and hear noise - so we bought this. She is shaking and learning all at the same time. Also, the sound can be low or high, and even the high is not very loud. I love the toy and we both dance around the house and have fun with it.
- LeapFrog is wonderful....
     By A1I3Z2IC5ZOAVE on 2007-01-15
These little maracas, which play in Spanish and English are an awesome toy. My son loves them. I have to say, I wish the other maraca lit up instead of just being a rattle, but that's fine. My son is usally only interested in the main maraca. My son got this just before turning 7 months old for Christmas. I'd have to suggest that you sit your baby up to play with this toy. Laying down leads to tears as they will bop themselves in the mouth, head or eye with the hard plastic toy. It's not that lightweight for little hands and they can't control it very well. Sitting up with this toy allowed for more control and less crying.
- A little disappointed
     By ASDIUF0SHMRLF on 2007-02-01
We received these as a Christmas gift, and thought they would be lots of fun for our 6 month old. They are fun, and I really like the concept, but was disappointed to see that only one Maraca lit up and only one made noises. So of course, my son only plays with the one that makes noise. The one that lights up is too heavy for him to hold, and it sometimes takes a good shake to get the colors/noises to change. Hopefully my opinion of these toys will change as he grows and learns to appreciate the different features of the Maracas.
- Good Maracas
     By A3PB28O50JABFG on 2007-06-16
These are pretty nifty maracas, overall. I wish they'd made little popcorn balls or something that the little one could see rattling inside. It's also a little weird that one is a "normal" maraca that you can shake on your own, but the other one can't be rattled, but has colors and couting features that are initiated by being shaken. I guess I was simply looking for plain maracas, but these are still kind of neat.
- Not Happy
     By A3I9MKCTDPWEO5 on 2008-09-05
My 1 year old is learning to control her hand movements. Thus if the shake is sometimes too hard she can accidently hurt herself. I think they should be made of something softer.
- Good fun.
     By A2CJNMCIQX2A0J on 2007-05-22
My niece likes the one that just shakes. The one that lights up apparently isn't as fun to her.
- Great Toy!
     By AD15G1RD32FDN on 2007-06-19
I bought this for my 6 month old son. It was his favorite for a long time. He enjoyed the sounds as well as putting them in his mouth. I only have one complaint and that's how hard they are. He has bonked himself a few times and cried. I am surprised LeapFrog didn't make them a little softer.
- Wonderful music for young children
     By A16PJ179KVVOF on 2007-09-18
These Maracas offer an immediate reward for their effort. Beautiful music that is very pleasant and not too loud. The colors are also a nice visual reward for the young child.
- Shake it up

My 2 year old loves these. I love the fact it teaches spanish and english, numbers, and colors. very fun toy for the little ones, and inspires music play.
- Cool toy
     By AFMHI3GZVBDBF on 2007-12-22
My daughter loves this toy, she's only 2. My oldest who is 4 tries to steal it every chance she gets. It's fun, to some it's annoying but I don't think so. It's loud on it's highest setting but my kids like it on the medium level sound setting. The last one broke because of a speaker malfunction. My husband didn't have a speaker to replace it so we bought a new one. Considering the typical abuse normal kids give to toys, I think this one lasted probably the longest out of our other kid's toys! We replaced it and my kids are thrilled!
This thing teaches:
Numbers
Colors of the rainbow
Has cool funny sounds
Teaches some Spanish
Yes I'd recommend this product. Probably to anyone under 3.
- Fun Maracas
     By A2NJELHC8V0RAS on 2007-12-29
My 1 1/2 year old grandchildren enjoy these maracas. It's educational and keeps their attention for a good amount of time. I am happy with the entertainment that it is giving my grandchildren.
- great fun but maybe only for calmer kids!
     By A3L0Y4J2GKCPOF on 2008-01-07
We purchased these maracas for my one year old son this Christmas and he LOVES them - - he shakes them and does a little dance when the tune plays. However, they seem to make him SO excited that they often end up being used, inadvertantly, as clubs! Whether it's the floor, me, or his own cute little head - - he inevitably bangs them too hard against something and its ended in tears a few times already. So just a word to the wise that these can be hazardous in the hands of an over-excited toddler!
- Beautiful lights!!!
     By AGS9UJV21W51L on 2008-01-07
My daughter loves these!!! She grabs them and shakes them and looks at the color and bobs her head!! It's adorable!! The colors are said as it lights up the colors so it is very educational I can also switch it to spanish!!!! I was a little disappointed that both dont light up but I guess that wouldn't be the best! ANYWAYS GET THIS!!! Very educational and perfect for any kid thats a fan of lights & music!
- Keeps attention
     By A21IA6T9FFWE21 on 2008-01-07
I bought this toy for my 8 month old son, and he loves it. He likes the sounds and music and especially the colored lights. I like that it is teaching number words, color words, etc. I also like that one maraca makes no special sounds (just shakes like a rattle), so when Mommy needs a break from the noise, I can have one! The only problem I have had is that my sons 4 year old sister keeps taking it away from him, because she likes it too!

Its a fun and exciting toy which is very appealing to young children. While having fun, it is also teaching in a fun way.
- Pretty great
     By A5JI9EG5PW9FH on 2008-05-06
I bought this on a whim at Babies R Us. My daughter, who is 10 months, liked the shakers at a church play room, so I thought she might like these too. I was right. She absolutely loves this toy. She immediately figured out how to tap the one shaker to get it to make noises and change color. She even shakes it when it's off in the hopes of getting it to light up. And it keeps her occupied for a shockingly long time. She likes the other shaker too, which is not battery powered, but just rattles. The toy has three modes, numbers, colors and sound, and each of them is pretty cool. Since my daughter is only 10 months I don't think she's getting too much education out of it....but you can switch it to Spanish as well. The music gets really annoying after a while, and I always end up turning it off after like 15 minutes. But my kid LOVES this toy. It's pretty amusing to watch her play with it.
- Fun for a developing baby!
     By A2TG259EXI9PJ0 on 2008-06-26
My 9 month old loves this toy. She understands that if she shakes it, she'll hear a new sound/word. She also loves the color changes. The toy is a little loud even on the low setting.
- Fiesta!!
     By A6RKWDNJSR8K4 on 2008-07-03
This toy cracks me up! It's adorable! I will say, my daughter gets a bit bored with it sometimes, it's a little hard to tell the "point" of the toy. You have to shake it in order to get it to say each color, for example, and sometimes shaking it is too sensitive or the timing feels off...but those are details that my 1 year old doesn't really care about. She likes shaking things and that is all that concerns her!
- Nice rattle...
     By A3K3U6PPTQCF2M on 2008-07-27
We are on the search for toys for our 10 month old to keep the smile on the face as much as possible. Lately our angel likes to shake stuff so we figured this is a good choice. One of the pieces is really a rattle the other one has the lights and sound. Definitely gets the shaking movements going for the baby. The light/sound unit perhaps a little too heavy, but still gets lots of attention. Nice.
- fun toy, a little dangerous
     By A36HNQ03UB0UXY on 2008-08-11
My son loves the counting maracas, the only problem is that the musical one is a little on the heavy side. When he was younger, he would sometimes bop himself in the head with it. Now he can probably crack a window with it. But, we let him play with it supervised. He loves the colored lights and the two different modes. He even noticies when it gets switched to spanish mode.
- IT`S INCREDIBLE!

My teens love this toy, but the baby could care less about it. Only one of the maracas work; the other is just a rattle. Don't waste your money!
