Nice idea . . . now they should finish the thought By A2TQQ1LEEQFULX on 2007-04-11
This is a great idea for a great marketing group . . . little kids who want to listen to music "just like the big kids." The FP3 has a few issues of it own, but the speakers were disappointing. The sound quality is not good. Even with the volume turned up it is difficult to hear. Another huge down fall is that a power cord is not available . . . so you can end up going through batteries pretty fast. To top it all off, my son has difficulty getting the FP3 correctly mounted into the speaker unit on his own. Overall we were very disappointed with this accessory.
Great idea but not perfect By A2SBKQH0IDD982 on 2007-03-23
My daughter loves her speaker and listens/dances to her "ipod" with it every day. When moved around (which is all the time) it makes a high pitched noise. We change the batteries, try to adjust the FP3 player in the speaker, turn the vloume down and nothing helps too much. So while the background noise is irritating, my daughter loves it so much that we live with it!
Speakers are a must have for the player and younger kids! By A35SHA8J69TOTU on 2007-12-28
I wish I had used this more with my older son (now 4) when we got the player. We were trying to get him to use it with just the headphones and for whatever reason, Fisher Price didn't think it would be a good idea to display either play or pause on the screen... so a parent can't tell if the music has started without taking the headphones away from the child, and well basically he would start crying and/or turn it off again before it started and we didn't use it much.
But, my younger son (just turned 2) discovered these speakers and the player sitting unused in the corner and has adopted it as his very own favorite thing. He has to have it everywhere, even in bed and at daycare. He can play the songs himself and navigate the menu, and since it has the speakers we can all tell if it's not playing and help him when/if he requires it (with the headphones its still another story... nobody likes the player with the headphones.)
So, for us the speakers are a must have. But there's another thing that prompted my review today:
I left this as a comment to someone else's review, but I thought it might be more useful here. We've had our player/speakers for over a year and it just started making this high pitched squealing noise within the last month.
I called fisher price today and they said this was a common problem. Even though the unit is a year old, and I have no longer got the receipt, they are mailing me a voucher for a new set of speakers.
They asked me to check the batteries in both units, and make sure the player was set correctly in the speakers. Our batteries were just replaced, and the unit works fine if you set it "just so" in the speakers but if you move it at all the squealing starts again.
Their number is 1-800-332-3457 press # for language (English is 1, French 2, and Spanish 3), and then they have an option for kids tough products (1) but it just kept telling me the line was busy and hanging up on me (!). So, after multiple attempts, I pressed (2) for "everything else" and got put on hold and actually helped.
Hope this helps someone...
Edit: I did purchase new speakers with the voucher from FP. The new speakers did not fix the problem. I purchased a new player to test the new speakers and it works fine with both sets of speakers (Old and new), so if you are having this squeeling problem, note that it may be the player itself.
FYI-The voucher must be used in an actual store, and not in an online store, not even FP's online store will accept it... and you can not return something bought with the voucher, only exchange, it shows up as being couponed off to zero. But the voucher is good for ANY FP or Matel toy, except for a few specific named toys.
We love this toy By A3OKNT8FKN7W0W on 2007-01-05
My son got the FP3 player for Christmas from Santa, and his grandparents got him the speakers. Just over the past week and a half we have had so much fun listening to all his favorite music together. He loves using the headphones, but the speakers are great when we all want to listen together. They're very lightweight, and the name Kid Tough is definitely appropriate. He loves to carry it around the house with him, and it can definitely handle the lumps and bumps that come with being toted around by a 3 year old. We really are all very pleased with this product. I'd highly recommend it to anyone who is purchasing the FP3 player.
Speakers compliment the player well. By A1VQNMNCUECUAN on 2007-01-10
I bought these speakers as a present for my 5 year old son for Christmas. The FP3 player fits in the speakers well, and it recognizes the player without any problems. It's almost a mini boom box for him. I enjoy them because it allows him to have a personal audio player and a speaker system as well. To my knowledge, my son hasn't dropped them, but they seem to be a rugged design.
The only reason why I gave this review 4 stars instead of 5 is because there doesn't appear to be a place for a any kind of AC adapter, and it only runs off of batteries.
- good product
     By A1757OXH0OPPHD on 2007-01-12
I wasn't sure whether we needed these speakers but they have been used with the FP3 player more than the headphones. The only issue we had was that the button to release the FP3 player is on the top near the handle and my son kept accidentally hitting the button when he would pick it up, of course the player would fly out but it is kid tough!! Once we figured out that was the problem he is more careful. The speakers seem kid tough too - they have been dropped a few times as well with no damage. It appers to have a maximum volume like the FP3 player which I didn't know when we bought it - the highest volume was easy to hear. We love the FP3 player and speakers and would recommend them to all kids!!
- FP3 Great Idea
     By A27K88BUXV0WSN on 2007-01-12
I wanted my daughter to be able to listen to music without headphones. This product, the FP3 Speakers, was perfect. She loves to walk around from room to room singing her favorite songs and carrying this around. It is easy to turn on and very kid friendly. The only downfall is that the price dropped right after I purchased it!
- Great Addition
     By A1N57VXCOXIOY2 on 2007-01-13
If you have more than one child, or your child plays with other kids, this is a must-have addition for your Fisher Price FP3 player. My son finds it easy to use, and this way there's no bickering over who gets to hear the headphones. They don't get too loud, but they are loud enough to provide music for a kid's bedroom.
- happy and quiet 3yr old
     By A1JDXZU7DAI0DF on 2007-01-19
THe speakers are a must for the FP3 player. Great for bedtime stories or sharing music. They seem to take the rough and tumble just fine.
- A must with the FP3 player!
     By A3PPEZA8ZWZFBO on 2007-03-08
I bought these speakers for my [...] daughter for her birthday about a month after she received the FP3 player for Christmas. She already enjoyed listening to the music, but she uses the speakers all the time now, and now my [...] son can listen too at the same time. The speakers so far have proven to be very durable, they have been dropped on our hardwood floors many times with no problem, and very simple to use, my daughter had it down in less than 10 seconds, so I'm not always having to help her with it. The speakers also get loud enough for a group to enjoy, but not so loud that I'm concerned she could damage her hearing if she was very close. I would definitely recommend these to anyone, especially with siblings!
- Great toy
     By A2KD3Q69E49UYZ on 2007-03-09
My three year old loves this toy. She now has control over her own music player, and there are no CD's to scratch. I highly recommend the speakers -- we never use the headphones.
- Well Thought Out Accessory
     By A3FVTLK0IFUAM5 on 2007-03-14
FP definitely thought through the current hot items for older kids, teens and adults and transitioned it into something little kids can actually pick up on quickly and use easily and without causing the parents any hesitation. The speakers are like docking the iPod (of which my son's older sisters have). He loves to imitate his older sisters so having his own iPod speakers just topped off the iPod (FP3 player) wonderfully. He uses the speakers to listen to a story or songs when falling asleep at night or while playing around the house.
Thanks FP!
- Love It!!!
     By A2SGS2GWEY4PXS on 2007-03-29
I bought this for my sister after Christmas when it was on the clearance
shelf at target. I almost didn't get it because it was green and her
player was pink but I'm glad I did!! She only listens to her player with
her stereo and not the headphones. She loves to carry it around the
house playing her favorite songs for mom and dad to hear. We haven't had
any problems with skipping or noises or any interference like that. The
volume is good too. I was worried it wouldn't get loud ENOUGH for her to
like it, but it can get pretty loud, or shall I say, loud enough, to
where you don't have to be super quiet to hear it. I like it because we
can play the stories for bedtime and the bluelight from the player stays
on the whole time for a nice nightlight. Plus the stories aren't too
long or too short and it automatically shuts itself off. The only thing
I would change would be that you could use an AC adapter or plug,
because not only does it run on it's own set of batteries, but it also
runs on the batteries on the FP3 player. Still we're just now needing to
change the batteries and it's been 3 months so that's pretty good. Not
as good as having a plug or a rechargeable battery, but good.
- Great addition to an already great music player
     By AXYDOG1NH097O on 2007-05-13
My boys both have the speakers for their music players. They take them everywhere. The battery life is great. The speakers are very durable. My boys love them.
- FIVE STARS!!
     By A3VZ25YO61YII4 on 2007-01-10
I'm trying to give this 5 stars, but it won't let me for some reason. I gave it a 1 on the educational value, but it is not reflecting that either.
Anyway, we have had no problems with the sound quality. In fact, we were pretty impressed with how good it was. The volume goes a lot louder with the speakers than with the headphones that come with the FP3. I love the portability of it and so does my 6 year old. He will carry it from room to room as he dances with it. Highly recommend...
