Carsx$12.71
    (106 reviews)
Best Price: $18.98 $12.71
Cars is a typical Disney-Pixar animated movie in that it deals with an anthropomorphic character (here, a car) and the heartwarming values of family and friendship. (Alas, we'll have to wait a little while longer for the company to take on greed and selfishness.) The accompanying soundtrack is equally typical in that it's split between catchy pop songs and a score by Randy Newman. The clear highlight of the pop tracks is Sheryl Crow's boisterous, huge-sounding "Real Gone" (her best song in ages). Rascal Flatts also cover Tom Cochrane's 1991 hit "Life Is a Highway," while John Mayer rocks out on "Route 66" (Chuck Berry's elegantly lean version is included as well). For his part, Newman continues his distinguished association with quality animation by supplying a nimble score. It's fun to hear him deploy riffs that wouldn't be out of place on a Quiet Riot album on the bombastic "Opening Race," while the bluesy "Bessie" does George Thorogood with a tuba. The CD's overall Southern flavor is emphasized by the frequent use of banjo and slide guitar, as well as by score tracks cantering about, like "McQueen and Sally." And, as usual, Newman delivers a nostalgic, misty-eyed song--in this case "Our Town," performed by that master of sensitive laid-back charm, James Taylor. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

What Fun! By A3UV7L5ND3EH8T on 2006-06-15
My son and I saw Cars over the weekend and I LOVED the movie! The music was incredible, a perfect backdrop to the story and stunning visuals.
Frankly, I'm surprised I like this CD so much because I am NOT a fan of country music! In fact, I (ordinarily) despise it. But Sheryl Crow's rockin' Real Gone and Rascal Flatts' cover of Life is a Highway are AWESOME! I keep crankin' the latter because it's just a FUN song when done by Rascal Flatts! (Never liked the original, believe it or not.)
There's some oldie tunes sprinkled throughout, and my son enjoys both versions of Route 66. A lot. In fact, he's upstairs toggling between those two songs!
If you saw the movie and thought it was as OUTSTANDING (and heartwarming) as I did, this Soundtrack will engender those same "feel good" feelings. Randy Newman's ethereal, moving strings are magnificent, so the instrumental parts are excellent. "Tractor Tipping" is a rousing hoe-down of a song that makes me smile because I remember the hilarious scene with Mater and Lightning in the field!
Cars: The Soundtrack is a great CD for the whole family (unless you have someone who absolutely hates all forms of country music no matter what--like my husband!). But if you've seen the movie, you'll likely enjoy this fun soundtrack (even if you're not a fan of country music like me!)
P.S. This CD comes with a cool fold-out which shows the colorful folks from Radiator Springs.
Little Boy and I love it! By A3TPNC3TKGCCEI on 2006-10-11
My 3 YO son, who wouldn't sit through the whole movie, still loves everthing CARS. He knows and plays with all the characters, enjoys the video game, and LOVES the CARS the music soundtrack. He dances to the songs or has me play it while he eats his lunch or dinner. It's fun to watch him enjoy this album so much, especially when his second favorite is a toddler tunes CD that sings ABCs and 123s.
For me, I really enjoy this album. The fact that my son and I can enjoy the same music together is priceless. The upbeat tunes make it fun to clean house.
Although it's kind of odd to have a mix of songs and music only sountrack on one album, for this album - CARS - it works great. I have no complaints and I'm very happy (as is my 3YO boy) to own this CD.
This is a soundtrack the whole family will enjoy By AE31M52VLKOG6 on 2006-06-09
I loved all the tracks on this CD. The first track entitled Real Gone by Sheryl Crow is an energetic rock song with a nice beat. This song is about what it feels like to be young and free. Brad Paisley contributes a very pretty song here entitled Find Yourself. It is a beautiful song about trying to fit into a new environment and making new friends. Life Is A Highway is a good song about looking for adventure on the open road. There are two good versions of Route 66 here. I love the classic version by Chuck Berry. The new version by John Mayer is equally enjoyable. James Taylor performs a very pretty song entitled Our Town here. This song is very touching. My Heart Would Know is a very relaxing laid back country song by Hank Williams Jr. Sh Boom is just a very fun cute song. Randy Newman provides an excellent musical score. He really conveys the spirit of the movie in these instrumental tracks. I could feel the excitement and the tension of cars racing in the tracks entitled Opening Race and The Big Race. McQueen and Sally is another one of my favorite instrumental tracks. It conveys the spirit of friendship so well. This is a CD that the whole family will enjoy.
Great, but cannot listen on my computer By A1CDZM5YMB61PD on 2007-01-01
This soundtrack is really two soundtracks in one. The first eight tracks are songs by the original artists - Sheryl Crow, Chuck Berry, and even James Taylor. The second soundtrack is made up of the remaining tracks - 12 tracks with of the music that formed the backdrop of the movie (including one, which is really a Hank Williams songs, and could have been moved to the beginning).
I loved the movie, and I love being able to listen to the songs from that great movie. My one complaint is that I cannot listen to it on my computer, because the security is blocking it. I listen to music all day, while I work, and not being able to listen to this one is quite a drag. Now, it might be that I did something wrong. But, if so, they need to make the software better.
But, that said, it is a great soundtrack, sure to please any Cars fan!
Music that drives CARS By A2F7CCPK4QL359 on 2006-06-28
The new movie Cars soundtrack is a combination of old and new car tunes for a new cartoon with a score by Oscar winning composer Randy Newman.
Lets start with Newman's score. Its bold just like his other Pixar scores he did for Toy Story and Monsters Inc. I enjoy his score. Its lush and full of musical thrills. Newman is never bland with a mix of a great horn section including tuba and drums. The last three cuts of the CD (#18) Pre-Race Pageantry, (# 19) The Piston Cup and (#20) The Big Race showcase his adventurous side that could and should be played at any Nascar race.
The music part of the CD is a few remakes like Route 66, Sh-boom and Life is a Highway. The best cut is Sheryl Crow's lively Real Gone which coulkd work as a theme song for this film
So is it worth it? Get your MOTOR running and buy it! It is a great companion to remember the film by

- Excellent soundtrack for an excellent film
     By A2N9RL87HUICW0 on 2006-06-09
Pixar's Cars soundtrack is a great complement to one of the best films of the year.
"Real Gone" from Sheryl Crow is a great song to the opening scene of Cars, fast paced and makes you want to get up and dance with adrenaline. (5/5 stars)
"Life is a Highway" from Rascal Flatts, I must admit, is a bit corny and repetitive, but nonetheless a great remake. The song fits perfectly into cruising the interstate. (3/5 stars)
"Our Town" from James Taylor is, hands down, the best song on the album. I almost cried when they played it in the film. It's one of those "When She Loved Me" from Toy Story 2 moments. I wouldn't be surprised if this song gets nominated for an original song Oscar. (5/5 stars)
"Behind the Clouds" and "Find Yourself" from Brad Paisley are some of the most country-sounding songs on the album. That's all I have to say about them. (4/5 stars each)
"Route 66" from John Mayer is what I call an instant classic remake to a classic. Upbeat and edgy, this song makes you want to get up and dance. (5/5 stars)
Other songs included in the soundtrack are "Route 66" by Chuck Berry, "Sh-Boom" from The Chords, and "My Heart Would Know" from Hank Williams.
After scoring Pixar's Toy Story, A Bug's Life, Toy Story 2, and Monsters Inc, Randy Newman is back at Pixar with a great score. Although the score probably is not as standalone as his other scores, the score has its moments. Such moments occur in "Opening Race" and "The Big Race." "New Road" is a happy tune about the New Road of Radiator Springs. "McQueen And Sally" is probably the highlight, in my opinion, of the score and one of the most beautiful scenes in the film. "Goodbye" is another Monsters, Inc sounding sound, with a score so emotional that even the toughest will feel a tear down the cheek.
If you love Randy Newman, any of the artists presented in this soundtrack, or just plain Pixar, I highly recommend this soundtrack.
- Worth the money. Especially at Amazon's price.
     By A2R25NQQSOYOKU on 2006-06-10
The mix on this CD is great. There are songs for young and old alike. James Taylor and various country artists as well as a few oldies and updated versions of oldies. My kids and I danced around the house to them all. Pixar is the best and worth every penny you spend on their products. The Pixar movies are works of genius!
I bought my CD at Toys R Us for $16.99, but Amazon has a great price of $9.98. Buy it before the price goes up.
- Great CD to have as a memory of the movie
     By A1TKM36EYEQNSM on 2006-06-16
Anyone, even someone who did not see this movie would like this CD. The music is just excellent and it added quite a touch to the movie overall.
If you saw the movie it will bring a lot of it back. Since there is such a positive message to the plot, this is worth having for the message, the music and the memories.
I think this CD is for the whole family, young and old will just love this. I like the song, "Finding Yourself" which wraps up the story and is sung in the last scene. What a great CD.
- wish i could give it 6
     By A3KY45VSR20OTB on 2006-06-22
i have purchased many, many soundtracks and have been disappointed time and time again to find the music on the cd was a different version than the one on the movie, like on the "road to elderodo" and "polar express". if i didnt like the version on the movie, would i puchase the soundtrack? and then there are the soundtracks that do not include all of the music from the movie, like "anastasia" (and it always seems to be the music i really like)
the producers of this cd finally got it!!!!!!!! i think they included every possible music snipit from the movie even the music from the first scenes of the races. fabulous. the music is just great. this is a great cd w many styles of music. i can not decide which i love best.
- Very fitting music to a very cool movie :->
     By A24ZFFRQ4MG3XL on 2006-06-12
After seeing this cool movie, I was blown away by the soundtrack and had to go get it. It is fun and fantastic. I love the country vibe it has to it and there are some great songs by everyone from Rascal Flatts to John Mayer to Sheryl Crow.
Of course one of the best songs is Route 66 and there are two versions here. First is the original by the great Chuck Berry and the second is a remake done really well by John Mayer. Rascal Flatts do an excellent remake of Life Is A Highway and the vibe is great.
Randy Newman who has done so many movie scores it's hard to keep up, has done some of his best work here. He has an unmistakable sound that you know instantly is his, and this work will no doubtedly earn him another Oscar nod and hopefully a second win.
Whether you loved the movie or not, seen it or not, you will fall in love with this soundtrack. It's one of the best I've heard in a long time.

- This soundtrack rocks!
     By AP4183R3QOTIP on 2006-06-26
We loved the Cars movie and noticed the music in the opening scene and left knowing we would want the soundtrack ASAP. It's a bummer that half the soundtrack is instrumental (still good, though) but the songs by Sheryl Crow, Brad Paisley, Rascal Flatts and the rest are upbeat, sentimental and fun - a joy to listen to. The only complaint I have is with Chuck Berry's version of the classic song "Route 66". It's so annoying that he didn't check the pronunciation of the cities before he recorded this hit. He sings "Kingsman, Barscow" instead of "Kingman, Barstow." How embarrassing!! My brother lives in Kingman AZ and I'm sure the folks there won't appreciate this slip up. Luckily I can just skip to John Mayers version and enjoy that instead! I highly recommend this CD as fun road trip music for the whole family!
- The perfect roadtrip companion
     By A72ZVQQ3469M6 on 2006-07-02
If you've seen the film and loved it like I did, loving the soundtrack is effortless. Every song, both the orchestrated and various artist recordings, is tied perfectly to a scene/sequence in the film. "Real Gone" captures the energy of the opening race so well, but also stands alone as a great song. So on down the tracklist, each song brings back the images of the film.
It is hard to imagine what the movie would have felt like if ANYTHING different than what was chosen had been put into the film. Each and every song is tied so tightly to the scenes of the movie, yet that does not detract when those who haven't seen the film listen either. It is accessible to everyone.
One of my favorite soundtracks in many years!
- Best Soundtrack, Best Movie of the year
     By A3I08JWJJQCH5A on 2006-07-03
Disney's Pixar does it again! I'm 21 years old and thought this movie and the soundtrack is the best of the year. In fact, I've seen it twice in the last week and would love to go see it again. I just can't wait for the DVD to hit the shelves. Larry the Cable Guy steals the show and keeps the audience laughing throughout the movie. Rascal Flatts in the background just adds to the excitement. Check out the Cars website to see their video. In addition to great actors/actresses, for race fans it's great to see the King (Richard Petty) back on the track! Way to go Pixar! Fantastic job! Just remember to stay past the credits, there is one last scene everyone misses by leaving early. So sit back and enjoy the credits, they're just as cute as the movie!
- Driving music for a driving movie
     By A3AVJCB1ZD6ZY5 on 2006-07-06
"Cars" so far has been my favorite movie of the year and the music was no small part of my reason. The producers managed to create an atmosphere with their music and scenery that brought the whole experience of the movie to life. This soundtrack is a great mix of classic and contemporary artists. We've got Chuck Berry's "Route 66" and John Mayer doing a great reprise. Overall, this is just a great, upbeat set worth keeping in your car's CD player for those winding s-curved roads!
- Music for kids AND parents
     By A19HDN6X40G1P1 on 2007-01-20
My daughter insists on listening to this every time we get in the car...I enjoy it too...it's a nice change from her Dora cd or the one with all kids songs. These are real songs that kids and adults can enjoy.
- This is a "cover" of the soundtrack to Cars, not the US version.
     By AOCU2NK6NL9XV on 2007-10-18
It's odd, but the MP3 download version of the album with Fabio Cobelli, and various others, does not appear to be the same as the Disney Cars Soundtrack with Rascal Flatts.
- Great job by Pixar & Disney!
     By AVUXW6PULU417 on 2006-06-08
This soundtrack captures the mood of the movie brilliantly! Sheryl Crow's original song is great & upbeat. Randy Newman did a great job with the upbeat score, especially on the racing tracks. The older tracks and the updated versions sound good as well. Get this soundtrack, it's worth it!
- This was the weak spot of the movie
     By A3673NBQVA4J2M on 2006-06-14
It's a shame that with a very good movie that the soundtrack is not good. Sheryl Crow's song starts out very good, but then she wrecks it with a harmonica. The rest were not good either. The only ones that are salvagable here are the Chords "Shboom" which is classic, and Rascal Flatts had enough horse sense not to put harmonica on their cover of Tom Cochran's: "Life Is A Highway", and made it a nice groovy country song out of it; however, the rest are just terrible. I could've picked out better car tunes in my sleep. For starters how about Link Wray's "Jack The Ripper", or War Babies "Sweetwater", and also the Rip Chords with "Hey Little Cobra", and the other granddaddy of car tunes The Beach Boys "Shut Down". This is still a good movie, and no one should miss it, but the soundtrack is the main flaw.
- Great soundtrack!
     By A9ELYNBX86F04 on 2006-08-18
When I received this Cars soundtrack, I was pleasently surprised to find out that the cardboard case it comes in is holographic! It makes it more interesting.
It has all the songs from the movie, both instrumental musical score and the songs such as "Life Is A Highway", my personal favourite and "Real Gone", another good song! My only disappointment, as a fan of musical scores is it doesn't have all the background music from the film in it, but most of it is there and its a very enjoyable soundtrack.
It also has a mini poster of the Cars characters inside, which adds to it's fun! Overall, a great soundtrack with a nice mix of songs and I'd recommend it to any fan of the movie or movie soundtracks in general.
- AWSOME
     By A3EFHW77512WN9 on 2006-11-02
This cd has great songs. My favorite songs are by Rascal Flatts, Brad Paisley and Sheryl Crow. I also like the two versions of Route 66. This cd also has great score.
- Kids love it!!

- absolutely fabulous
     By A3M9GQYLZRBBO6 on 2007-02-12
This Cd is a must for all Disney/Pixar and route 66 fans. I listen it in my car, at home, every where.
This music makes me happy.
- Nothing better for a road trip
     By A1HROV7IKSDXYP on 2007-02-27
What an upbeat album! Perfect for the movie and perfect for popping in the cd player on a road trip. My kids and I have loved singing along at the top of our lungs to Rascal Flatts' way-better-than-the-original version of "Life is a Highway". Then add the talent of the always fun Sheryl Crow and the Oscar nominated James Taylor for his vocal delight in "Our Town". Everything else in between keeps your hand tapping the wheel. This soundtrack is a great buy and so much fun. A++
- another winner from Pixar
     By A33G2XG1S5NSH1 on 2006-06-08
This Pixar soundtrack, unlike the CDs for the comapny's first six features, is heavier on songs than on score. Many of the songs are not originals, as well, which further makes this CD a bit of an anomaly in the world of Pixar music.
But that's not to say it's a bad CD. Far from it.
First of all, the songs are almost all good. I'm not wild about Sheryl Crow's "Real Gone" or James Taylor's "Our Town" (written by Randy Newman), but they're decent, and come from memorable scenes in the movie. The cover of "Life Is a Highway" by Rascal Flatts is actually better than the original, and Brad Paisley's "Find Yourself" (not written by Newman, but sounds as if it had been!) is really good, too. Most surprising of all, John Mayer's cover of "Route 66" is pretty good; I'm not a Mayer fan, but he does a good job with this song. The rest of the songs are three classics from Chuck Berry, Hank Williams, and the awesome "Sh-Boom" by The Chords.
Which brings me to the reason I bought the CD -- the score by Randy Newman. There isn't much of it, only about 20 minutes in all, but it's good, and it seems to represent most of what little score was actually in the movie. In terms of how it compares to the rest of Newman's work for Pixar, I'd say it's not as good as "A Bug's Life," but probably the equal of the two "Toy Story" movies.
If you're a Pixar fan like me, you won't feel that your money has been ill-spent, but if you're buying primarily for the score, be aware that it's brief.

Absolutly amazing! I may only be 15 years old but I know for sure that this has some great tracks on it and some great driving music. I highly suggest this for all ages!
- Great movie - great soundtrack
     By A2KP04NFIXQLCP on 2006-07-13
I was lucky enough to get to see Cars a month before its release in England and so I bought the soundtrack from Amazon.com as that is not yet available here either. The movie is great and the soundtrack is excellent. I particularly like the way the CD groups the artists first and then goes on to Randy Newman's tracks. The packaging looks really good and of course is a reminder of Lightning's paint work! When you put the CD into your computer, you get a neat link to the Disney site. All in all, a great product!
- Very Enjoyable Soundtrack
     By A3P9D22KDEXVMN on 2006-07-15
This is a very enjoyable soundtrack. The cover tunes by newer artists are excellent. A perfect companion piece to a 5 star movie.
