Almost perfect complete office suite By A20CB0XXWS57J9 on 2006-08-15
I recently upgraded to the HP6310 from the HP7110 a machine I was more than happy with. The move has been excellent, all functions are faster particularly color printing, the unit is significantly more compact and the quality of images are also a serious upgrade. The unit has almost no shake and is extremely quiet in operation, particularly in comparison with my old 7110. In addition the price differential between this machine and the much inferior HP5610 is very small.
New features include the ability to take several formats of camera memory cards and read directly from them to print contact sheets, six ink color with inkjet photo ink and up to 24 x 8.5 prints. There are also wired and wireless network options etc but I have not used them.
Installation was a breeze, I was up and running in maybe 10 minutes, the controls are intuitive but if needed the instruction book is unusually easy to follow.
Why not five stars: it drinks ink and the cartridges are small -that gets expensive.
If you can live with the ink issue this is a great machine for the home office or small business.
Machine Good/Company Bad By A1WAUS33L3PRV on 2006-05-18
I would've given this All in One a 5 were it not for the fact that it is manufactured by HP. You see, I thought the "receive" feature of my fax machine was not functioning for some time. It turns out that HP has a "fax back" system whereby faxing to the number will in turn generate a fax back to the number from which the fax came. It is 888-HP-FAXME. Turns out that the tones from the system, which are simulated fax tones as I understand it, actually come from a computer and can cause the receiving fax machine to not recognize the tones as bona fide fax tones. So, for several days I tinkered with settings and such and finally threw up my hands in utter disgust. Then it dawned on me that it could be HP's own fax back system that was causing the problem. I got someone to fax me five (5) faxes in a row and all were successful. I call this scenario insiduously ironic, as it was HP's own system designed to test functionality for receiving faxes that was causing the problems.
The machine itself works well and has pretty intuitive settings (although a bit cumbersome and awkward to navigate through). It's a good looking machine with robust features. I only use the copy and fax features as I have not hooked it up to a PC. I would imagine the scanning and printing features are fine. Keep in mind, though, that these inkjet All in Ones are not fast copiers (not sure about printing), though maybe they're faster when operated through a PC.
I bought it during a rebate offering at Staples, so got it at a good price. Now that the faxing dilemma is over, I'm satisfied with it.
Good value for the money By A2PL9P6RMKO1JL on 2006-07-02
Pros:
- Small and portable.
- Uses external transformer (110V-220V)
- Decent print and scan quality
Cons:
- Slow printing / copying speed
- Unlike network printer where you can just install the driver and start printing from the network, scanning over network requires you to install the monstrous 300mb hp software which runs some kind of window services in order for network scanning to work.
Perfect little all-in-one printer! By A3258AIQI17ZEU on 2006-09-09
I have a home office set up so that I can sometimes work from home. I was tired of having 3 different printers (laser, inkjet, inkjet with scanner and copier) and a fax machine. This nifty little guy replaced all four machines! It works wonderfully. The print quality is very good, better then I expected. For someone that uses it to print presentation materials, the occasional personal photos, send faxes, scan, and make copies, this machine is a great addition.
I did have some trouble initially installing it to my pc. But I've heard it takes a little trouble in the begining for Windows XP's. Eitherway once the installation is fully complete (which I did by myself without any HP assistence, by just working at the kinks) it is good to go and a great asset. I've even used it to print business presentations materials already and they came out better then at my local Staples copy center.
In my humble and not printer savvy opinion, I believe this is a great machine at a very good price for all the other machines it eliminates.
It does everything just fine, and the network access is great. By A3Q1BOVCGI23RR on 2006-08-25
We got the 6310 because we needed a fax, our color inkjet had broken, we'd thought about needing a copier, and our scanner was very old.
This unit does a great job as a fax: it is easy to send multi-page paxes directly from your computer or from the unit itself. While it took a little bit of configuring to get it to output confirmation pages from sent faxes (you'd think it would do this by default, but it's a feature you have to enable), it's (so far) been a very reliable and hassle-free fax, which is more than I can say for some standalone faxes.
This does a pretty good job as a color (and photo) printer. It's not a dedicated color printer (like some of the Epson units that cost as much as this all-in-one), and that shows in its speed and overall fidelity. But it's pretty darned good, and will meet the average user's photo needs and almost all user's non-photo needs.
The copier works well. It takes a little while to get going, but once it starts, it's reasonably fast on low-quality mode. Multipage copies are easy with the sheet-feeder.
The scanner is fine. It's not the best or worst of scanners. I think it can be unbelievably slow sometimes, and the fact that it does not allow multi-page scanning with the built-in sheet feeder is dumb. I'm hoping that a 3rd-party vendor will release a driver allowing me to take advantage of the sheet-feeder for scanning.
One huge thing in this unit's favor is the network access. Scanning over our wireless network means that my wife and I can both use the scanner without dragging different wires into our notebooks (hers runs Windows 2000, mine runs OS X).
I'd give this unit 3/5, but the network connectivity really pushes it up to 4 stars.
- This is a Fabulous AIO
     By A1P9Z5H9OA50I9 on 2006-11-19
This AIO is fabulous. Here are some of the features that I have tried:
1. Network Connectivity: (Excellent)
I was very interested in the network connectivity aspect, both wired and wireless. It turns out that all you need to do is connect an ethernet cable from the printer to a wireless router and it works without any glitches. Any printer with the HP software installed will be able to see the machine thru a 802.11 wifi network and print to it. We print to this machine from anywhere in the house and even from our yard!!
2. Print quality: So the black and white and color prints have been quite good. I have not tried any super high quality color printing yet.
3. Print speed: More than acceptable to me.
4. Scanner: (excellent for everyday scanning)
Real easy to use. Works really well. You can control the scanner from your PC or from the AIO itself. If scanning from the AIO it will let you choose anyone of the PC's that is connected to the network and will also allow you to create jpeg or pdf files.
5. Fax: Excellent for everyday faxing.
Both scan and fax can done using a document feeder or by placing a single sheet on a scanner.
Again it is a no brainer to use the fax.
6. Installation: Only gripe (very small). It takes about 20-30 minutes to install the software drivers. But it might be worth it as it works flawlessly after you go thru the install.
7. Replacement of cartridges: Very easy and robust. I used to own a Canon AIO..was very hard to replace cartridges. Very delicate. During a cartridge replacement I broke a fastner and a spring and that was the end of the machine.
HP really knows how to build printers!!! They are the best!!
- HP 6310 has awful software
     By A2GNR0L0Y0UOWQ on 2007-04-14
I installed this machine on a home office network via Ethernet. The install took awhile, and changed registry settings without asking. Uninstall did NOT restore the system to it's original state; only hours of manual resetting did that. How many users can restore the registry?
Further, the software/drivers do not like the printer turned off or missing. If you install this on a road laptop, you can expect a program, HPZinw12.exe, to search for the missing printer every 100 seconds or so using all available CPU time. If you are unlucky enough to be in the middle of a client presentation, the chances are good that you have just lost the job.
If you turn off the printer in the office, your office systems will also search for the printer and display an unclosable dialog asking you to switch to an unknown program while using most of their available CPU time. (Please note that 6 hidden dlls are also running at all times.) This software is totally equivalent to a virus except for duplication.
I returned this system and will never buy another HP product.
- Great all-in-one for home use
     By A2IIK3DIQ2XYE3 on 2006-12-18
I purchased this all-in-one from Amazon about three months ago to connect to my wireless network at home. So far, I have had no problem printing from my wireless laptop computers anywhere in my house. The quality of color printing is great with reasonable speed. The fax and copy functions are convenient and easy to use. I have only used the scan funtion occasionally, and it seems to work well. Most importantly, it has survived my pre-schooler's copying of socks, pens, stuffed animals, and such. So far, I am quite happy with this purchase. It looks like the price has come down some since when I purchased it. So if you need a device that does everything under the sun: print, scan, fax, and copy, AND is network ready so that you may share the device with all of your wireless and hard-wired computers, this is a good one to get.
Costco carries a HP ink pack with two black 98 and one color 95 that is reasonably priced.
- A Boat Anchor
     By A2CY51T3TK4U2G on 2006-08-04
had a 6210 that worked great for 1 1/2 years and then died. luckily had extended warranty so exchanged for this 6310. i have been fighting this for 3 days now and swapped out the new unit for another new unit. installed over and over but can't get scan to work. print function works fine, even when computer says unit is disconnected but it is hooked up and turned on. scan just will not work and get error message that no connection to unit, even though print works and all usb drivers installed. hp trouble line no help, just uninstall and reinstall over and over and over, etc, etc. something missing, but who knows what.
- Never buying an HP Printer again!
     By AHXLXHJ1ZVW5Q on 2007-04-05
I've tried to install this Printer on several machines running Windows XP via Ethernet and every time on each machine there has been a problem with the installation (which btw takes about 25 minutes to complete).
This scanner's TWAIN driver does not work well at all with any version of Adobe Acrobat Writer (I've tried versions 5, 6.0, and 7.5). One cannot scan documents directly from Adobe Acrobat to create a file. HP Support does not recognize this as their issue. As I am someone who relies heavily on Acrobat Writer (which costs twice as much as this printer), I cannot tolerate this incompatibility.
I am sending this printer back and going with my father-in-laws advice. "HP is no longer a quality product, but another brand like Brother"
Overall, I am very disappointed in this product. It is sad to see that my old HP Bubble Jet Printer (which is 10 years old and still working fine), is built with a much higher standard of quality than this current 6310.
- This is a great machine
     By ACLSX70J5GM3N on 2006-09-09
My husband and I run a small business from our home and have owned hp printers in the past. I must say that I was skeptical about getting this printer because the hp printer software is always so buggy. I am pleasantly surprised that I was able to put the software on two separate computers with no problem.
My reason for purchasing this particular machine is the ability to print wirelessly and I am not disappointed. I am able to print from my laptop without any problems. This machine makes my life a lot easier because I don't have to worry whether the main computer attached to the printer is turned on.
My last hp printer didn't have an automatic feeder and now I'm not sure how I lived without it. I have saved so much time copying and faxing because I don't have to stand at the machine and put each piece of paper on the glass.
I really am pleased with this machine, it's exactly what our home business needed.
- Excellent all-in-one for home or office.
     By A1M0PG21YK612F on 2006-07-02
You can't ask for much more in a machine. It does it all. The photo card slots are just another plus. Set up was about as easy as it gets. The only negative is that none of the companies include a usb cord any more. I would highly recommend this product.
- Conflicting Reviews. My experience was bad
     By A24RC7K9PGXEFW on 2006-10-20
I read the many good reviews for the 6310. I had a very bad experience. Could not hook to through the network. Hooked with a USB cable but could not scan. Tried for company help. On line chat took forever and just sent web pages I could have opened and read. Hard to even break through to techncian on the phone and then no help. Just told me to reinstall. Installed several times to no avail. Too many variables. Some people have a good experience but mine was unfortunately no so.
- avoid this machine
     By A2NJ5BH5HQPZYX on 2006-06-30
just upgraded from my older 6110 all-in-one to the 6310 because of continuous error messages, grinding noises, interruptions, etc during scanning. My 2 yr. service contract for the 6110 w/ Staples just ran out. I could have gotten a new software service contract with HP for $55.00 for one year or 2 weeks to resolve my specific problem at $30.00 (neither contract covers hardware.) But for circa $250 why not get a new 6310 and an extended contract for another $35.00 from Staples?
Boy was I pissed when the 6310 gave me the same error messages that I got on my 6110, and cut off in the middle of a scan the second time I used it. Nuff said. Still looking for a good all-in-one.
- NEEDS TO GO TO REHAB FOR ITS INK DRINKING PROBLEM
     By A3KGDRED5O7K87 on 2007-01-26
This printer sucks! It started out working wonderfully. Then all of a sudden (after the third month in use) it started printing very slowly. Then it decided it wouldn't print at all unless I completely shut down my computer everytime. Something is wrong when you can only get 200 sheets of paper out of text only documents from the black ink cartridge. It also uses the color ink when it's not requested. I only needed the color ink a couple of times (not for pictures) and it went just as fast as the black. I used to love hp. They are now making garbage. I'm thinking of looking at the OKI brand. Don't waste your money on this one!
- be careful with paper jam
     By A2N7H2RWFQC1YC on 2007-01-26
I had one paper jam in 6months. eversince then, screen kept saying "paper jammed" although there was no perper at all. Manual said you shouldn't remove a jammed paper from the front, should use back door because the feeder is very sensitive. I pulled out a peper when only the begining of the paper was jammed. I thought that shouldn't completely ruin the feeder though it's very sensitive. I had to return it because there was no way to fix it. Otherwise it had nice functions, fast, pretty fast wireless response. I liked it except the sensitive paper feeder.
- Excellent all-in-one network printer
     By AYMT1X9BWS2K0 on 2006-10-01
When I got married, my wife and I had seperate inkjet printers left over from college that were getting on in years, relatively slow, and required one of our laptops to be up and running to use. We do a decent amount of printing for grad school, and I have an older scanner that also requires a computer to be on to use. So we started looking for an all-in-one printer in a good price range with network capapbility and faster printing and copy times. Any laser printer is out of our price range, and so the HP Officejet 6310 has nicely fit our needs. The only thing it lacks is automatic duplex printing, but I have yet to see a network ready and duplex all-in-one inkjet machine. You can manually duplex print, so it is not a big deal for us, and it can also be hooked to to a single computer by USB if needed.
The biggest surprise for me was the quality on the draft print setting is very good, especially color printing. I can print color figures related to my school work and not have to refer back to the pdf file to understand what it means. I also like the scan features. If I want to do a basic scanning job, I can do it all from the printer itself. Once the software is installed, you choose a computer on your local network and a list of compatible programs will show up that can accept the scan. Another great feature is that you can scan and copy from the document feeder, which is a must for large multi-page jobs.
The card reader on the front of the machine is very nice for digital picture printing. It will print a master sheet(s) of all the photos on the card, and then you can select by number which photos to print. HP also makes photo quality inks for the 6310, and while we have not used them, it is nice to know that better ink is available if we want to print pictures.
If I could, I would've given this printer a 4.5, but I am giving a 4 instead of a 5 for two reasons. The ink cartridges are small (about 10 mls of black and 5 mls for each color in one color cartridge) and HP ink is expensive. However, we get around this by almost always printing in draft mode and using third-party ink refill kits. [...]
The second reason is that to be able to scan directly from the printer to a computer, you must have HP's software installed. It is bulky (450-700MB!), takes a long time to install, and had issues with antivirus and firewall software during the install itself. I had to manually go into the task manager and figure out which files were for the virus scanner (symantec 10) and shut them down. Also, if you want to play around with the scanning resolution and color settings, it must be done from the computer. When it is finally up and running, several printer related programs will run in the background with a total usage of 20 MB of RAM, which is not insignificant if you have an older machine or are running memory-intensive software. To To HP's credit, the software is pretty easy to use though.
Overall, I would highly recommend this printer to anyone looking to consolidate and expand their printing needs into one machine.
- Farewell to my allegiance to HP
     By A3KXM530V2O0N5 on 2007-01-10
I have owned 3 all-in-one HP printers over the years and intended to replace the G85 with the 6310. While checking out the features of the 6310 we noticed that the multipage document feeder did not pull the documents into the printer. The unit seemed to be copying ok when a single sheet was placed on the glass and printing and fax were ok. When I opened the unit to look for anything unusual I noticed the ink docking trays had accumulated a small pile of ink and this was unacceptable. We had the same problem with the G85 which is why we replaced it. However, the G85(a very good unit by the way)was a few years old, not just a few days like the 6310. The 6310 was returned and we bought the Canon Pixma MP810 and are we glad because the quality of construction surpasses the 6310 even thought the unit cost a little more.
- Functionally works great, some little quirks in configuration management
     By A3MCVYUA4Q5PZS on 2007-04-14
The printer and scanner both have worked flawlessly and up to specifications. I have a mix of Windows XP and Vista laptops and the software installed without problem. A few quirks though:
- When the printer is used in network mode (not USB mode) there is an option to secure the settings by pointing your browser to the IP address of the printer, going to the Network Settings, and clicking on the authentication bar. I set the password there, it "implies" the username is Admin. The next time I went to access the network settings, I couldn't get the password to take. I tried different possible usernames, and eventually called the HP help desk. There is absolutely nothing on the HP website or in the 6310 manual around security. After fifteen minutes of begging just for the username on the security logon and getting walked through all sorts of other options, the HP support person told me there was no security option on the printer itself. This was just after the support person walked me to the authenticate tab. Sigh. However, I was chatting with a person at work and she told me the username field needs to be blank. Tried it and it worked fine. Blessings be to my fellow geek. :-)
- I was having problems keeping the printer consistently identified to the laptops using my Linksys router. So I set it to a fixed IP address. I moved to a NetGear router and couldn't get the printer to attach to the router. I reset the printer to factory specs, and still couldn't get it to connect. I reconnected the old router and lo and behold, when the printer resets to factory specs it does not clear the network settings. I reset it the printer to dynamic addressing while attached to the Linksys router and it now works fine with the Netgear router.
A specific benefit for me is that I was able to acquire 8 reams of A6 paper in a garage sale (slightly longer and narrower than US paper). My cheaper HP printer couldn't adjust to A6, but this model works great to many paper sizes.
- HP 6310 Four in one printer
     By A6E5OFPL1WR3G on 2006-07-27
When I purchased this printer there was only one review which sounded pretty good. I found this device easy to install & setup with an outstanding print quailty and and easy to operate. I use this printer for photo print, fax and scaning. Kept my old HP842C for regular email and routine/draft printouts primarily to save the ink cartridges on my HP6310 since the ink cartridges are smaller. Rate the HP6310 4 out of five stars. Only drawbacks is that it tends to vibrate a little much during fax operations
- Very good printer.
     By A37QUQPYFMR9Y9 on 2007-07-25
First, I didn't buy this from Amazon, I bought it from the store. Circuit City, if my memory serves me. However I know numerous sites rip off Amazon's comment list, so my comment will be spread across the World Wide Web thusly.
Second, I bought this particular machine because I needed all four functions: Fax, Scan, Copy, and Printing. I also needed a printer that could be networked, Ethernet or wireless, doesn't matter. An ADF was a requirement, just in case I had multiple documents to copy or fax. Color was desired, not required, laser was desired, not required. But my price point was not to exceed $160 (it's a printer. No way should it cost more than the computer sending signal to it). So I settled on this one. I've had it for nearly a month now. Rather than innundate you with nonsense, here's the quick and dirty.
~ The GOOD ~
- It's fast enough. It's not as fast as some lasers I've had, but it gets the job done here.
- Color quality is superb. Given it's not an actual "Photo" printer, I'm definitely big on how the output looks. If your input photo is high resolution, a high resolution print is what you'll get.
- Supports Ethernet, so if you have a wireless router, you can plug this sucker right up to it and print wirelessly to it. Absolutely awesome (but see one of my negatives below, which may have been an isolated incident).
- The actual printing itself is very quiet. I'm in a place with vaulted ceiling and echo is a given, so I like quiet appliances.
- Nice, small compact unit.
- Seems to work very well with glossy photo paper.
- Multiple different types of memory media supported, with slots in the front.
- Supports Bluetooth IF YOU GET A USB BLUETOOTH ADAPTER. It doesn't support it natively, no.
xXx The BAD xXx
- The paper grabber and shifter mechanisms are loud. Not TOO loud, but loud enough to be somewhat distracting.
- The output tray is directly above the paper tray and there is no room for you to put your hand in to add more paper without removing the output tray. Not a big deal, but really annoying if you're switching paper types frequently.
- The printer seems to be picky about assigned IPs in a network. I run a wireless home network with my router as the DHCP server, and if the printer ever has its IP number changed, it freaks out and won't operate properly. I had to manually assign an IP to the thing to get it to work.
- This thing is a straight INK GUZZLER. I printed three pages of black text and already the indicator was down one bar. Also, if you print photos, expect the color ink to go down rapidly.
- Fax doesn't always go through and I know it's not the destination. Sometimes it just won't transmit, even though you run it again and it works, it's something with the way this uses fax.
- Scanning forces you to use HP's bloated software. Irfanview would not use its own UI to accept the scan from the TWAIN.
- I installed the full HP software included with the printer and it effectively broke my entire networking setup on that computer. The computer would no longer communicate with the internet even though it was clearly connected to my router. It worked fine before I installed the software. I was forced to manually assign an IP to it, too.
- Inability to change your outbound fax number. I don't receive faxes using that number and would prefer not to give it out at all.
Bottom line - would I recommend this printer? Sure. I'm certain the laymen user wouldn't bother with networking or anything. But I want everyone to know what they're getting into if they choose to get this machine. It's a good machine with issues.
- Utter trash

This terrible printer, my fifth from HP on their pay-us-money-to-fix-your-stuff plan, now resides in the bottom of the local dumpster. I've had it with HP forever, as apparently have scores of CNET reviewers.
I won't support HP's pay-as-you-go "service plan because none of their items work as advertised. These aren't printers, they're shredders. A close friend had the same difficulty. I'm back to my pair of reliable Brother printers...
This unit was the third "upgrade" HP shipped my on my nickle, and all three models and all five units either shreded paper, chronically failed software installations, or droped networking.
Never again, HP; go back to wiretapping, apparently you know how to do that even if you don't know how to build a printer, stand behind it, provide comprehensible "tech support", or write a working piece of software.
As a business owner I depend on my hardware -- my classic HP 5L laser was unstoppable. But something's changed at HP...
- Nifty little machine
     By AYM986VRIXVBC on 2006-08-08
I would have given it a 5 stars if it didn't use so much darn ink!
The tiny ink cartridges sure don't last long.
The print quality is great. It prints quickly off the computer.
The copy speed is a little slow - seems all these all-in-ones copy rather slow.
I was able to set it up & have it running in just a few minutes.
I do wish there was a way to print a fax report one by one instead of turning the option on to print them all. Who can remember to turn on the feature before sending that all important fax?
- Overall Great networkable All-In-One!

This is a great All-in-one if you have a home office or many computers in your home. If you don't need a networkable printer, go with the 5610. But if are going to use a printer with multiple computers, you can't beat this one. I'm fed up with Epson, so I decided to try HP. I'm glad I did. It works fine with my Apple AirPort Extreme and all my Macs.

Very good Unit .... Software Installation had to be run 3 times to complete installation(suspect bad software disk).
- Great for the small/home office
     By A3S9DOTT4Z8JF9 on 2007-10-24
I've used a lot of printers, inlcuding HP, Lexmark, Kyocera, Xerox, Epson, and so on. Out of all of them I have to say I got the best long-term performance from the HPs.
This particular machine is meant for the small/home office light duty work like everyday printing, a fax or two each day, etc. For that task it performs marvelously well at a very reasonable price. If you are planning a larger workload you'll want to look to a larger model.
I use all four features regularly, here is how I would rate each one:
Printing: The meat and potatoes of any all-in-one machine, this printer is no slouch. I've always had great quality, be it documents or photos. Ink usage is conservative (read: I don't spend a lot on ink). I haven't had any issues in a little over a year of daily use.
Faxing: Faxing out is quick and easy using the buttons on the faceplate. I usually stick to black and white but this unit will do colour fax. Incoming faxes can be either printed directly or stored to memory for printing when you're ready. I find this feature handy because I can do away with spam faxes by deleting any incoming faxes I was not expecting.
Scanning: While I scan some pictures, most of my scanning relates to electronic backup of paper documents. Scan quality is excellent, however I do have a small complaint. Using the scan-to button on the faceplate sometimes auto-crops documents that include pictures, which can be frustrating. Instead of using the faceplate button, I just launch the software and scan that way. The software interface is very easy to use, so this doesn't really amount to any lost time.
Copying: Copies look great, whether scanned from the glass or the sheet feeder. (The feeder, by the way, is NOT prone to jamming) Copying is fast once it gets going, but the time-to-first-page-out is a little long.
As for networking support, I have the printer networked using its built-in ethernet jack. Setup was a cinch- you just pop the setup CD (or download the setup file from HP) into each computer you want to use, follow the prompts and you're up and running in no time.
My only other general complaint about this machine is that the input/output tray design is a little flimsy. It hasn't broken, it just gets knocked out easily so you'll want to position the printer where the tray will not be bumped.
On the whole I am extremely pleased with my purchase. For the price, you will not find a better all around deal.
- Uninstallable Printer !!!!
     By A1Y3HBEH4JQEDY on 2006-11-19
My experience with the HP 6310 was a disaster. After installing/uninstalling for 7 days, I could not get this printer to work correctly. I spent many hours with HP email support. They would send directions to complete on the 4th day that they sent me on the 1st day !
I am by no means a stranger to computers, so if you are, beware this printer....
- Cheap Item, Poor Software, Worse Support
     By AGR1BBSJZ803K on 2007-04-22
I didn't purchase this one...it was a gift. I was hoping for a laser printer like one of the Brother All-In-Ones.
I opted to install the Lite version of the software from hp.com. I would suggest that everyone do this. The Lite version only has the drivers, none of the HP bull software that is included usually.
The thing that bothered me the most was the Automatic Document Feeder. I would start a scan job and everything is going fine, and then on the 5th or 6th page the whole process would just hang. I had over 500 pages of documents to scan, and this machine really let me down.
Amazing how Hewlett-Packard can't even write reliable drivers.
I gave the item 2 stars because I got it to print sometimes. No buy.
- The Grinder
     By AVVP2SSB4Z8RO on 2007-05-31
I purchased this printer in July, 2006. It functioned well, easy to install, although a hog on memory and a hog on ink. Fax easy to send and document feeder worked without problem. Then it started a grinding noise each time the carriage went across. It is still working, grinding its way back and forth. A friend owns the same printer and he said that his also started grinding and then it just froze up. He bought another printer.
I contacted HP and they offer replacement with like unit for $99 and a warranty of 90 days. The inital cost of $170 with only 10 months of satisfactory service makes me wonder if another $99 is a good deal. I used to think HP's were good as long as the drivers worked well with the computer platforms, and were reasonable in terms of ink use.
It really seems that the manufacturers are making cheap machines and making their profit on ink. I'd pay more for a machine that was made better and was ink friendly.
- Not thrilled with this product
     By A14NFZ4VSJ7DTQ on 2007-01-07
This All-in-One is a nice looking, compact product. It was easy to set up. The cover for the scanning area feels flimsy and I am not happy with the paper feed. It feeds two pieces of paper at a time even if I fan the paper prior to loading it. It is hard to judge how far to actually push the paper in when loading it. If the paper is pushed too far in it will cause a paper jamb. Clearing jambs?? Not EASY!!!! Even though the description tells the speed of copying - one does not realize how S L O W it actually is. Overall... not worth the $199 I paid for it. Sorry HP, I have always liked the other HP products I have purchased in the past!
