Super Price for a Super Machine By A2YRX8J4WM5BRX on 2006-07-21
First let me say I've owned many multifunction units over the years. I've paid 3 - 4 times the price of this unit and have not been as satisfied as I am with the 4315.
I mainly use this unit for copies and faxing. I make approx 200 flyers on it a week not to mention daily faxes. It has never let me down. The print is clear and crisp. I paid 89.00 for it and couldn't ask for anything more for the money. There are many improvements over the 4215. It's very easy to set up and use.
Love it!
Excellent Product By A30CTI12KTMAW7 on 2006-07-30
I bought the 4315 about one month ago, primarily because it has a sheet-fed scanner. I have scanned 200+ pages and have not had one problem. The software is very easy to use. I set the software to scan documents as "searchable PDFs." Also, it is much faster to scan documents with the 4315 than my flatbed scanner.
I also printed a few brochures using the color printer, and the quality was great.
I would highly recommend the 4315.
****************************************
Here is a 2008 update to my 2006 review: Since then, I have been using the 4315 regularly and have not any problems. In fact, it has worked perfectly. I primarily have used it for scanning. Using the settings of black and white, PDF, and 300 dpi, I have scanned in hundreds of documents --which converted to more than 1 gigabyte of PDFs.
One of the great things about the 4315 is that it is a sheet-fed scanner, so I can put in several pieces of paper, and they automatically feed in one at a time.
The software is very easy to use. In preview mode, you can preview your scans and modify them via a variety of options including "resize," "sharpen," and "B/W threshold."
Also you can add additional pages to a scan. So for example, to convert a 60-page document to a pdf, you would place several pages in the autofeeder and scan them, and then select "Scan Additional Pages" and repeat this process--until you have scanned all 60 pages.
The quality of printing is quite good even for very small fonts such as subscript. I do not use it to fax because I simply scan in documents and then use XP's fax utility or faxaway's service.
Small, Yet Powerful Machine!!! By A1A535TCGNMVPI on 2006-08-31
If you're looking for a machine that will let you fax, copy, print from your computer and scan, here is the machine for you! It's small, takes up little space AND if you're using it home for occasional use, you can fold up the top and bottom to take up even less room!
It's very user friendly and I'd say it took me longer to open the box and unpack it than it did to set it up and get it running!
What's very cools is that the machine aligns up the printing by itself. Put a paper through once, it prints on it then you put that SAME paper through again face down and it aligns up ALL by itself!
The only thing I'd give a warning for is to make sure you by a USB cable (not included) AND buy a black HP #21 and color HP #22 ink cartridge extra as even through they're included they're "test" cartridges and there is VERY little ink in them. And if you will be using it for photos you need to buy the Photo Ink HP (this is not included even in test ink).
Otherwise it's a great user friendly machine!
Plus if you buy through AMazon (not a 3rd party seller) you pay less, no sales tax and free shipping! You can't go wrong!
Well made multifunction printer By A3UEDRY9W1YBC1 on 2006-07-21
I work in an investment firm .Everyone in the office received a new HP 4315, approx 3 months ago. Well we had canon units before and these blow them away. For ease of use and dependability these win hands down. I have never had a paper jam or a fax lost yet. They work as advertised and better, and we put them through the ropes.
A very well made multi - task printer.
What a great printer for a great price By A2W22XWVW9UL6V on 2006-09-10
I have never owned a printer that I was overly impressed with until NOW! I got sick of paying hundreds of dollars for multifunction printers that were difficult to use and set up. So for this go around I decided to keep my budget under $100 dollars and I read many reviews and decided to take a chance on this printer. Boy am I glad I did. The set up on this was so easy. I was literally printing and faxing in minutes. I haven't used the scan mode yet but I'm sure that is as easy to use. I have DSL and even with that complicating factor I was able to set up this printer/fax/scanner and believe me I'm very technology phobic. The printer speed and quality are great and its not an ink guzzler at all. I"m thrilled with this purchase. I've never written a review before but this product is too fantastic not to rave over!
- Love this printer
     By A308K77QG83EAC on 2006-09-17
Ordered this product from Amazon and it arrived well before scheduled date. I was very please. Has a nice small size and perfect for small places. Beautiful print jobs. Just make sure to check the manual for DSL connection. You may need to buy a "Y" connector for DSL hook-up. (I did. Not expensive)GREAT PRICE. Be sure to buy a USB cable if you don't have one. Buy both at Amazon...good deal.
- Inexpensive value
     By A274XHRSDS7ELB on 2006-08-24
First, got delivery (with regular shipping) in less than 24 hours - warehouse must have been just down the street! So, was positively predisposed.
Printer and fax set up was simple, sharing existing (VOIP) phone line. Printer is great quality and reasonably fast. Copies are slow enough to discourage heavy use, but convenient for a few copies.
Only downside at all? Small ink cartridges - keep spares handy.
- Nice, compact all-in-one
     By A1DUVEKBWJPBNF on 2007-07-13
This is a very nice unit. I agree with the general sentiment of most of the other positive reviews.
It is extremely compact, especially for an all-in-one. With this, however, don't forget that you lose the glass scanning/copying surface area. This means this device is completely useless if you want to copy a bound object (books, magazines, etc). It can even be tricky for small items like purchase receipts and checks. Keep this in mind when buying such a small unit.
If this is a necessity for you, I also own a Lexmark x5470, and it costs around the same. I haven't owned it long enough to have any problems, but the HP seems like a more sturdy outfit if the glass panel is not a necessity.
- paper refused to feed ever.
     By A3UB9N7VNLFZYN on 2006-08-28
Bought this brand new. Only one of the two paper rollers worked so the paper would never feed. Called customer service ahd they said they could not helop me other than to encourage me to return the unit. Must be a manufacturing problem. Very dissappointed that HP would not have tested this in the factory. I am very ticked! Will not buy HP again.
- It prints okay but don't try to fax, copy or scan !
     By A3N9TJOBTRP6WF on 2007-04-10
I purchased this HP all-in-one new from Amazon in Feb 2007 and it worked great for about two months. Then I started getting a half inch wide black strip down the side of every page I try to scan, fax or copy. After spending 45 minutes on the phone with a nice young lady from India and jumping through numerous hoops and maneuvers she finally transferred me to the hardware support people who never picked up the phone. I give up. I guess I'll use this to print and receive faxes and use my old Epson 4490 Photo scanner to scan and send faxes. What a waste of time and money! Don't buy this piece of garbage. Better to spend a little more and get something that works more than 2 months.
- HP Officejet 4315 Lives Up to Its Name
     By A2N1QR72ARM6ML on 2007-07-28
The HP Officejet 4315 All-in-One Printer is a great buy. It encompasses printer, fax, scanner, and copier functions in one machine. The design of the product is attractive and does not take up a lot of space. This is especially important for a home office where space can be limited. The setup was easy using the quick reference guide and I found no problems in this step.
Please note that one will need to purchase a special USB A/B cable to connect the device to your home computer. I purchased the "Cables to Go 6Ft USB A/B Cable" and it worked great.
I have used all four functions of this machine regularly and have yet to have a problem with it. I have recommended this model to other friends and they have the same positive opinion. I would highly recommend this product as it has an attractive, intuitive design and performs all four functions well.
- AN AMAZING MACHINE, Very easy to us.
     By A1CXSQ4QGNNCCE on 2006-08-24
Without going into a lot of detail, I am very impressed with the HP 4315 Officejet. I love it. Before I buy anything, I read all of the reviews. If it does not rate 4-5 stars, I probably wouldn't buy the product. Five stars are not enough for the HP 4315. Software with this machine is excellant.
If you are looking for an all in one printer, copy, scan, fax, I suggest you look no further and go straight to the checkout with this one.
My last printer was a Canon i950, no comparison.
- Vista users beware!!
     By A11F3SA45BJQSU on 2007-06-20
I even called HP and specifically asked them before I ordered this item if it was compatible with Vista. They put me on hold to "check for sure" and came back to tell me it was. Guess what? Nope... won't work! So now I have to go through the hassle of returning, fighting to get shipping reimbursed, etc. Don't do it!
- Nice Printer
     By A11FKD5WM1ZFGG on 2006-11-10
This printer is good and cheap. The only bad part is that its scanner is a fax-like scanner, which cannot scan books.
- Ink Cartridges-Can't live with them, can't live without them....
     By A2NUJZX9413K00 on 2007-08-12
This All-In One works good providing you with a nice spectrum of tools at a reasonable price. We have used this machine for over five months with our printing requirements being very modest, usually print about 30- 8 1/2 X 11 black copy pages a month. What we have found is we are going through at least one cartridge a month of black ink. This is in draft - fast copy mode. Currently we buy two cartridges at a time insuring we are in ink and won't go down. We bought at a Big Box retailer so Amazons price, shipping and without an additional sales tax works well. We have found buying cartridges at Staples, Office Depot and Office Max and getting a $3.00 credit for an empty cartridge works best. Internet pricing for replacement cartridges are offset by shipping and handling. We also discovered that these cartridges are NOT refillable. The machine is good but would suggest you shop and shop again for the very best deal as the cartridge renewal process is annoying and at times, a pain in the wallet.
- Flawless!
     By A3V956ZH6TCV9F on 2006-08-28
I was really only looking for a replacement for my scanner, since my old one was not XP compatable. After looking at prices, though, I thought - what the heck? I can get a scanner, printer, copier and FAX machine for just a few bucks more!
It arrived quickly (as always with Amazon!) and in fine condition. Unpacking was simple, set up was a breeze, and everything checked out fine.
No worries, Mate!
- I love this printer
     By A225URZVPLNY90 on 2006-09-02
this is a compact very smart all-in-one and it makes great copies, so easy to use.
- Good printing
     By A165B22J07IED1 on 2006-10-28
This is a good machine, but why couldn't they include a USB cable, which is required to hook it up to a computer, which is required to use most of the software applications? For this reason, I say three stars on this one.
- Compact printer
     By A1BYMIVQ9Y75GZ on 2006-11-03
Takes up little space. Produces clear concise copies. Makes a lot of noise. Cartridges sometimes get stuck after printing and have to open printer or turn off computer to get them to work again. Cannot copy books because it does not have a flatbed. Good for light use, but I wouldn't buy it again.
- A step down
     By A1S0KW10REHYVH on 2006-11-09
This printer is definitely a step down from my previous printer, an HP T series 3 in 1. The paper feed is an issue, and even when there is paper in the tray, I get an error message that the paper tray is empty. It will not take any specialty papers, such as:labels, postcards, or thicker card stock. It would not even take regular weight colored paper. This purchase was a mistake!

     By A2ECRPBIX396Z9 on 2006-11-10
I have had very good service from this machine. Copies are very good and the machine is fast. The only problem I have with the machine is that it goes through printer cartridges kind of fast. It would be better if the printer cartridges were larger. Otherwise, a great machine. Have been using HP products for several years, and all have been very good.
- nice home copier/fax/printer
     By AKLOKUHZLJTUP on 2006-12-27
I got this model a few months ago, for a newly opened home office, and it has been very reliable and of good quality. i like the user-friendly manual and very easy to follow video graphics, e.g., how to get rid of paper jam (which doesn't happen very often). got it with HP black ink cartridge, which is also good quality, and the cartridge is very easy to install. It does go through the cartridges quickly, so 4 stars instead of 5. Overall, a great all in one copier/fax/printer.
- HP Officejet 4315 all-in-one
     By A2U01NVQ9OXBGL on 2007-09-30
I'm trying to settle my mom's estate long distance and realized about the second day that I'd need a fax machine. I ordered this all-in-one and couldn't be more pleased with it. It arrived in a few days even with free shipping. It faxes with no problems, but it's even handier as a small portable copier. I use it at home, but can take it along when I travel to her home because the fax and copier functions work independently from the computer. The controls are fairly intuitive and easy to use. It is rather slow on "normal" settings, but when I set the copies for fast, both the speed and the quality are quite acceptable, and it uses less ink as well. I've done a boatload of copying and am still on the trial cartridge.
Not all of the software would install on my computer for reasons I haven't bothered to figure out, but the all-in-one seems to work fine anyway. I don't know how it would be for huge volumes of copying or printing, but for my purposes, it's perfect.
- Inexpensive, but functional
     By A3HR3DJCTS30UL on 2006-11-06
I bought this to replace the "free" Epson all-in-one that I got when I purchased my MacMini. The Epson was a disaster; it worked (barely) at first, then needed all color cartridges to be replaced ($$$)and then refused to work after 2 sheets had passed through with marginal readability. Thus far, this machine has done all that I've needed, though I don't make extensive copies on my home computer. I don't FAX, so I've no experience with that element.
As a side issue, the Air America advertising blackout by Hewlett Packard has made me extremely unlikely to ever purchase their products again. There are other choices and this kind of reactionary stand by a producer/retailer is sufficient to make me look elsewhere.
- HP officejet 4315
     By A1KWXM9NRVTC40 on 2006-11-09
The printer and copier are better than others but the scan has two little problems, it need to read a short time but the quality is great but it isn't the best and the second to read more than one sheet it need more than one file. The printer is excellent but it use the ink so fast, then it result so expensive.
- Best all in one I have ever used
     By A1BJARZPYZRE7T on 2007-01-05
This does everything. It faxes, it copies-even copies both sides when you select that option. It prints beautiful. I got a digital camera and the prints came out beautiful! It scans just about everything, even small things that I didn't think would work, it worked great. A great deal for the small amount of money I spent and it only takes 1 color cartridge and 1 black ink cartridge which is easy on the budget. I would recommend this little all in one to anyone looking for a great performance all in one printer. The software is also pretty easy to use. Every time I use it I am so thankful that I bought it.
- Printing on anything except paper is problematic
     By A3R00DGDGF8PMJ on 2007-02-19
If you do a lot of printing on cd labels, business cards, etc. this is not the printer for you. The printer has an annoying habit of forgetting settings when the paper is changed resulting in a lot of wasted ink. The printer would either ignore margin settings (printing to the edge of the page, which would be fine if that is what I had wanted) or printing in such a way that the ink smeared (this is on card stock designed to be used with ink jet printers) even after several minutes exposed to air. As you can imagine this gets old after 10 wasted sheets of specialty paper and ink cartridges that go from full to empty.
This is a problem with every all-in-one I've purchased from HP (like the F335) so it is definitely a problem with HPs internal workings. Customer support didn't seem too surprised with my problems and suggested that I take it to a tech center for "tweaking". Um...sure. Just what I expect to do with a brand new printer.
Again, printing on normal paper isn't a problem, so if that is all you do or just need a home fax machine with occasional printing needs this printer is fine. Just beware of using anything else!
- HP Officejet 4315 All-in-One Printer
     By AGPQA3PE0QL7P on 2007-04-06
This is a workhorse of an all in one. Lasts about 3 yrs. I had the previous incarnation and it held up pretty well. Could be faster on some stuff like scanning and faxing but for the price it is a good value.
- Okay for occasional use, but.....
     By A1QNH1M696EZZY on 2007-07-03
I purchased this all in one printer based on the positive reviews that I read on this site and others. I was looking for a small, inexpensive, yet effective all in one machine for mostly home office uses. I've used it for copying, scanning, faxing, and printing. I've found that the printer is extremely slow. EXTREMELY. I've used it to print from both a Mac and PC (running Vista) only to find that it took hours to print larger documents. It also seemed to use quite a bit of ink for a not so big text print job. So, be sure to have ink cartridges on the ready. It handled my copying and scanning jobs fairly well, so if you're primarily buying it for one of those uses it would probably be okay. I keep getting error message about a "cartridge" whenever I send faxes. I'm usually able to get them to go through, but it sometimes requires more babysitting than I would like when trying to send faxes. This unit is probably sufficient for occasional use, but anything close to moderate or more will stress both you and the machine.
- good simple fax machine
     By ARB3NFF55BCT7 on 2007-09-15
the fax machine is a replacement for an earlier HP model which no longer was able to print-and no longer able to receiove faxes since the roller from the printout paper didnt work. The new model seems to work okay but it lacks a phone, you need to use a separate phone if you want to call before faxing. Also some of the construction seems a little shoddy-particulary the cheap plastic printout tray. Overall the machine was very easy to setup and use. Ut was a very good buy-an inexpensive decent fax machine-I dont use it as a scanner and copier since I have other scanners and copiers but I needed a simple inhome fax.
