Go with the JBuds By A3JIH1B4OGBPIZ on 2007-12-14
I purchased these headphones and the JBuds headphones at the same time, just so I could compare the two. (I figured I could keep the one I don't like when the other ones go bad...) They both had very good reviews, and these (the Coby's) were 1/3 of the price, so I was kind of hoping they'd turn out to be better than the JBuds. But I was wrong. You really do get what you pay for, I guess. The Coby's were fine, don't get me wrong. But you could hear a noticeable difference between the sound quality in the JBuds and in the Coby's, and the sound in the JBuds was without a doubt more clear and more crisp. The Coby's also had problems with staying in my ear. Finally, the JBuds come with 3 different sizes; the Coby's only have one size.
Spend the extra $10. Go with the JBuds.
Best earphones ... EVER! By A32M6P0MLXSSVO on 2007-10-11
I've used plenty of earphones in my day. I've used headphones, I've had the ones shaped like circles that you have to stick in your ear (with our without that piece that wraps around your ears), and I've used big MONSTER headphones that look like those ones that plane traffic engineers use.
Never have I had a pair of earphones that are as comfortable as these. Many times, you get those earphones that you stick in your ear and they are VERY uncomfortable. Not so with these. They are so gentle. Comfort aside, these earphones are EXCELLENT. I can't hear a thing when I have them both on (which I think is a BIG PLUS). And the sound quality is excellent.
And you just can't beat the price for earphones of this size and quality. I highly recommend them.
Okay but broke quickly By A277P59FPQSCBI on 2007-09-23
They are nice headphones, although be careful, when you get them the two stems are stuck together -- you part them by pulling them apart to decide how much separation you want between the two. I hadn't seen this feature before, and thought they were just stuck, and started pulling on them -- if you want you can pull them pretty much entirely apart right down to the plug. But after I started wearing them, I liked them. Except that I'm a heavy running, and somewhere along the way, one of the rubber ear buds popped off and that was that. If they're going to make these for sport use, they should be made a bit stronger. I owned the Sony's for two years and the buds are nearly inseparable from the headphone. So be warned.
Excellent for what you pay By A3GV3KRASR9HPC on 2007-11-17
I gave this product 4 stars cause I rated the product based on price/value, product quality and sound quality. Based upon all these I believe for $10 after shipping, you just can not beat the sound of these earphones. Yes, they are bass heavy and tend to muddy the overall sound spectrum a bit because of this fact, but it is easily overcome with an EQ setting on the ipod. The sound seems tight and crisp to me listening to pop, rock and some jazz on a EQ setting of treble booster. I couldnt listen to it at full volume to see where I could head distortion in lower or higher freq. The cable lanyard going into the buds seems kind of fragile. The silicon tips feel much cheaper that the tips on my Sennheiser CX-300's. Yet, these babies play the music on my ipod much louder than the CX-300's and do not seem to distort as easy as the CX-300s in the lower freq from what I have seen. Bottom line-5 stars = price/value, 4 stars = product quality and 4 stars = sound quality. If you are rough on earphones, keep your $10. But, if you are looking for a replacement earphone for your ipod and you are on a tight budget and arent an audiophilist, these may be for you.
you will throw away your old ones By A38HRQQZR5NL72 on 2007-06-19
i bought more earphones than pair of shoes the last 5 years including really expensive ones for $100. Curious about the good ranking here at Amazon and the cheap price i just ordered one set of Coby earphones. To make it short: these are better than everything i tried before. The sound is full, smooth and fantastic. I could write more, just go ahead and get one. You won't regret it.
- "Super Bass" is appropriate: it's all you can hear.
     By A2P0F4WZ5CDH1S on 2007-07-05
Having just bought these headphones based on the recommendations I read on this product page, I can say that they do not by any means live up to the exaggerated claims posted here.
These are a pair of <$10 speakers, and they sound about as good as that. They do NOT, as two other reviewers suggested, sound like high-end in-canal headphones in any regard. While they fit comfortably in my ears, the sound produced is muffled with very poorly defined mid and high range frequencies. Worse yet, within 5 minutes of listening to the killers, my right ear began to hurt and I had to stop listening. This was not fatigue from the shape of the phones, but simply the sensation of my eardrums crying out in agony.
That such cheap headphones would produce such poor quality sound should come as no surprise, and had it not been for the overwhelmingly positive voices in the comments section here, I would never have considered buying them. I just thought I would set the record straight. They're pretty crappy.
- Earbuds are not forever
     By A3T1AS79A36Z3R on 2008-02-19
I dare you to find a person who is still using his/her original earbuds. (or even their second or third pair.) Regardless of price, the things get lost, get tangled, get wet, get stepped on, etc. Thus, I'm always looking for ear buds that will stay in my ears, produce acceptable sound for activities outdoors where there's ambient noise, and survive routine use. If I want concert hall sound, I'll go to a concert hall or at least sit quietly in my living room with a big pair of Bose over my ears. For the price, these are really hard to beat.
- Very Nice
     By A11LNY2OLQSUSV on 2008-01-11
I love these headphones. I used to have horrible luck with headphones. I could never hear anything unless they were really loud. Not wth these. They are almost like ear plugs. You can barely hear anything other than the music and its great. The sound is really good, you don't have to have the volume way up to hear the music. You cannot find better headphones for the price.
- $20 sound at a $6 price, plus decent noise cancellation and comfortable to wear.
     By A6VPK7X53QNAQ on 2008-07-17
It would be unfair to compare these earphones to the some other more expensive earphones I own like Shure E2c Sound Isolating Earphones or Philips SHE9850 In-Ear Headphones with Advanced Acoustics. The Coby earphones cannot reproduce the highs and lows as faithfully as those earphones in the sub $100 range. However, you get good sound for a tiny fraction of the cost of the high end earphones.
Sound Quality:
The Coby earphones compare very favorably to the in earphones in the sub $25 range like Philips SHE9500 Ultra Sound In Ear Headphones or JBuds Hi-Fi Noise-Reducing Ear Buds (White). The sound of these Coby earphones is decent, they also have good bass and pretty good noise reduction. The noise reduction is not as great as some of the sub $100 earphones I have used but is good enough for listening on a plane ride. This is probably the best noise reduction you can get in the sub $20 range!
Comfort:
These are one of the more comfortable in ear phones I've owned. The flex rubber sleeves are thinner than usual and fit comfortably in the ear. I can wear them for hours without feeling any discomfort. They also don't fall out which is a big plus. The only in ear headphone that was more comfortable than these is the Philips SE9850 that came with memory foam sleeves that molds to fit your ears.
Make:
The make of these earphones is ok. The cord is quite thin and does have a tendency to tangle a bit. When you get them you have to tear apart the cord as per your preference, there is a little plastic sleeve midway to ensure you don't end up tearing them all the way down. They did seem a bit flimsy to me but in 2 months of use these earphones have held up quite well. And seriously, even if they do get damaged after a few months it will take only $5 to replace them.
Overall:
If you're like me and like to have more than one earphone lying around, this is a great product. After I lost my $100 Shures when they fell out of my pocket, I prefer to take these with me for more active trips. They sound good, don't fall out of my ears and hold up well to moderately rough use...and if I lose them, no big deal...just get a new pair.
- Not What You'd Expect
     By A3R9U3RXRZWK39 on 2007-12-27
I've had these for just over two months now and I have to say they are worth a bit more than what I paid.
First off I must admit I'm no audiophile, but I do listen to a lot of different types of music: electronic, classical, pop, rock, reggae, rap... Through it all, these headphones have performed superbly. They can get fairly loud (I usually keep it lowish cause I don't want to lose my hearing), and have decent, though not spectacular, bass response. Mids and highs are okay as well.
So far they are more durable that a pair of $30 sennheiser I bought earlier (cable sleeves practically fell of that model).
The only mark against these phones is the short cable...its only about three feet. That's great for a player strapped to your arm, or on the belt, but frustrating otherwise.
Overall a fine pair of phones for an amazing price.
- Biggest Bang for the buck
     By A1C8VJ01OJ7ISA on 2007-08-08
Based on the recommendations of the reviewers, I decided to try out these earphones. Let me tell I was blown away by the sound of these earphones, once you properly fit them into your ears. They are sensitive so you don't need to turn the volume all the way up.The highs are crisp and clear, the midrange is quite pronounced and and the bass is warm and rich. Try listening to Madonna's Confessions on a Dance floor and the track "Future Lovers". When I heard the bass from that song, it sounded like it was from a sub woofer. You don't need to spend $100 for earphones. Try these out you won't be disappointed.
- From China with LEAD
     By A244J7IUYGQHZZ on 2008-07-11
From the back of the package: "Handling the cords on this product will expose you to lead, a chemical known to the State of California to cause cancer, and birth defects or other reproductive harm. Wash hands after handling." I'm glad I saw the warning before opening the package.
[...] I would hope that you do the same.
- Great More than Bargained for!
     By A236NL674PSL71 on 2007-05-17
These earphones are just as loud as any overly priced ipod earphones and are even better. They have the best bass with clear voices so you dont just hear a thrashing noise with barely any singing in the background, also one important thing I almost forgot was that they are LOUD.
Now sound volume is an important factor for people who go through busy streets, bus and train passagers, or even joggers(sweat resistant) who want to block out the outside noises from disturbing them.It completly closes you in to only your music and can even be hard to realize when someone is calling you.
I was suprised to get such a great pair of earphones for such a cheap price. I am really pleased with them and if you buy them you definetly will too.
- Very Nice Earphones
     By A3EOE3ZLNWSAKN on 2007-06-30
I'm surprised at the quality of these earphones. After about 20 hours of break-in time the frequency response is very good. Bass is getting better as I use them. I wear them mainly at work. I work in a noisy environment and though not perfect at noise canceling (I work in a metal fabrication shop) they sound good at low volumes. I'm able to wear them the full 8 hour day with no fatigue. I can't do that with the ear plugs provided at work.
- OK comfort, disappointing sound.
     By A1JKXVAZI65022 on 2007-10-31
Bought these to replace standard iPod earbuds, which do not stay in my ears. While the Coby 'phones stay put, I'm not near as happy with their sound. "Super Bass" may be fine for music, but I listen to a fair amount of spoken word (NPR, podcasts). I find that these phones overemphasize lower frequencies and make the human voice sound muddy and unnatural. Perhaps I should have known that "Super Bass" meant unnatural reproduction and tried another brand/model... but earlier reviews were generally positive, and the phones _were_ cheap. Live and learn, eh?
- Good for two weeks
     By A10JHKYCOBOXW6 on 2008-02-23
I read the other reviewers comments on these earbuds about the tips coming off, but thought I'd take that as fair warning to be careful and bought them anyway. Well, after only two weeks I came home from the gym with my ipod and my "new" earbuds, and noticed the plastic tip was gone when I sat them down. I don't think my ear swallowed it, but never saw it go. These little guys work just fine if there was a way to replace the buds. I should've glued them on.
- WOW
     By A2O8XXPBE5DLQZ on 2007-06-07
Tell your audiophile buddy you paid a hundred bucks for these 'phones and tell him to give them a listen. He'll say they sound great and you got a bargain. Then tell him they were under $10 and they're made by Coby! I'm going to stock up on these for sure.
- New guy on the Block .... Bose
     By A20JKN5WM7R1LA on 2007-06-09
I bought these earphones just to try them. I went to work and a friend had a bose noise cancellation headset we switched and the sound quality that came out of this tiny guy was amazing,He was shocked, Rich bass you can't beat for the price they are going for. Trust me i know my sound.
- Excellent sound.
     By A3JQ4OWPTFSVBH on 2007-07-25
I bought these earphones based on the reviews, and they work really well. You get good quality at low volumes, when "regular" earphones would give you a very low, subdued sound. They work fine not only for bass, but also for the mid and high frequency ranges. I've discovered sounds and beats that I dind't know existed in some of the songs I have in storage.
I don't know if they are Bose quality, but i didn't expected that either. They are just much better than your regular everyday earbuds, and you can't beat that for 9 dollars. Way to go, Colby!
- can't hear anything else..
     By A3NSYL4S7RFSAH on 2007-08-06
These headphones have great sound. The bass is very deep, while not muffling the treble. The only thing keeping them from being a 5 star product is the fact that they are earplug style, meaning they actually enter the ear canal. This enable them to sound the way they do, but keep you from hearing anything around you. My solutin was to have them sit out side the ear canal, they fall out sometimes but I can hear the outside world..
- Super Bass Digital Stereo Earphones-- really good
     By A10A7GV4D5A11V on 2007-08-24
These earphones have an amazing spectral range. They are balanced throughout. I have owned all of the "best" and most expensive. With those I had to set the equalizer to compensate for their spectral characteristics. With these, I just plug in and listen. And,... for <$12.00... who would believe????!!
- Beware of Cancer Warning
     By A2JOD25X94R214 on 2008-08-15
We purchased these really comfortable earbuds and were very satisfied on day 1. The problem is, in very very small print on the box Coby warns customers that handling the cord brings you in contact with Lead which can cause cancer. They warn you to wash your hands after use. This was a gift for someone who already suffers from this terrible disease, wouldn't it be nice if these were not allowed to be sold in this country? We returned them. Shame on Coby.Coby CVE92 Isolation Stereo Earphones
- awsome for a low price
     By on 2007-03-05
wow.. i bought mine for 4.99. these are amazing.. for a low price they rock i would compare it to the headbanger earsubs.. they are even gold plated for only 4.99. it was an amazing deal i couldn't resist
- Strange but ok
     By A28N4CU9FK5W86 on 2007-07-12
The design to fit inside your ears can be annoying.. but it does seem to block out some more noise.. and it's comfortable. Puts out better sound (certainly) than ipod headphones.. but also better than some of my more expensive ones.
- great phones
     By A242QIITWRNQZ2 on 2007-07-18
These phones rock. Clear sound, comfortable and cheap. Beat any phone I have ever tried.
- The Super Bass digital is SUPER
     By A3PJ6XOTXT73AO on 2007-07-23
It is so much better than the pair that came with the Nano, First, you do not have to put up with those worthless earpiece covers. They do not fall off, you do not have to crawl on your hands and knees to find them when they drop off. Second and probably more important, they fit and stay in my ears. The set that came with the Nano would fall out of my ears when I moved my head. Finally, the sound is fine also. I am glad I purchased them.
- Good and comfortable.
     By AAF2SYGZ2YKSI on 2007-07-24
The cord is long enough so you can ride your bike without hassle. Also the sound is good. Very good buy for the price.
- watch the silicon tips
     By ACB4QUXRSSDO9 on 2007-11-10
I like these much better than standard earphones. The sound was great, and they were more comfortable than earphones. Problem is, about 2 weeks after I got them, my daughter was using them and lost one of the silicon tips. they still work, but they're not very comfortable.
- Too big
     By A2LBEKWP6RIF5L on 2008-03-10
These were too big for me... would not fit in my ears. I think they're a size large. I had to give them to my husband.
- I love deez buds
     By A26VF18X91983P on 2008-02-23
I have had these now for about a month. sometimes, when I am jogging they come a little loose from my ear, but that may be because i keep my mp3 in my left chest pocket and the right wire might pull a bit. If it happens, I do the stick the bud more firmly back in the ear method for a moment and I'm back in business.
The sound on these buds is superb for $6 bucks and no shipping. So good that I almost can't believe my ears. So good that I even bought a second backup pair. Why not? The bass is great, and the noise isolation works well too. For this price and this quality of sound there should be no hesitation about these. And I thought Coby was a cheap brand. Live and learn.
