Terrible game By A1AHR22MP2IO3E on 2007-02-22
I think this game should be recalled. There are too many issues to list but a couple are: extremely slow load times, too many areas in game where disk needs to load, bad point of view on characters (meaning you can't see where the character is going because the screenshot is showing an area that is of no importance), maneuverability of characters is terrible. I have never written a review of a product but hopefully this will save people money and they will buy a different game.
Don't Buy It By A201NMY5KV9XN0 on 2007-03-16
Sega really flopped on this one. I treid playing it for a few hours..the camera angles, yes you can adjust them..but as soon as you start running again, they resume their same terrible view point. This is the biggest waste of my money...Don't buy it!
Insultingly bad By A1TQLLV976FMI3 on 2007-02-22
Buried deep underneath the interface, sparse save points, and pathological load times, it looks like there might have been a fun platformer in here. But you'll never find it. This game is just outright offensive. It's one of those rare roughs in the diamond that make you wonder if anybody. Ever. Played this. At Sega. Sega is a major company. I can't connect that fact with this game. I bought and own this game. It is one of my deeper regrets of the last month. I'd take it to a resaler and get my $5 store credit, but that would just lower the price and raise the risk that some other poor sod is going to actually have to sit through the three hours of excruciating pain it took to fully convince me that this game has absolutely no merit.
The opening video is pretty. If you have a good display, and get a copy of the game for free, it might be worth popping the game in to watch that. Immediately after the video finishes, eject the disc, and ask yourself this question for the ages: is Blu-Ray also a better _microwave_ format?
LOADING all the time, don't buy this game! By AHOJQ44WRC461 on 2007-02-14
I wish I had rented it, cause it is ALWAYS loading, you spend at least 70% of the time waiting for it to load. Not only that but often times you don't actually play/control sonic during the game. I bought this game because of the good times I had with dreamcast, all honest, this one is a #@*!% of #$@% !

Sonic The Hedgehog Is Back.
My words about the game: Well It's the best Sonic The Hedgehog game ever.
Incredible levels, lovely graphic, levels that I could play over and over again.
There are few camera problems in the game and sometimes
it freezes if you are at the wrong spot in the game.
To be honest that does not bother me at all, the only little thing
that bothers me is the loading, there are too many loadings.
Other wise it's Sonic The Hedgehog after all ^^ I haven't beaten the game yet. Im working on it, but the story is almost like the other games that Dr. Eggman comes
for the seven Chaos Emeralds and rule the world and also
a new character added called Silver The Hedgehog wich
makes the game more interesting. There are these levels with Sonic were you run in a super speed.
That makes the game even more fun to feel how Sonic
really can run and not like the other earlier games. I think it's the best Sonic game ever and should be played by all fans.
- Stay away. You have been warned!
     By A13K8I9OJHLO8U on 2007-01-31
If you read through the net, you will find very similiar comments on this game regardless of the platform. 95% of the reviews for this game are bad. A few personal comments. While the CGI for the crossover scenes between levels are decent (not that great but ok), the graphics during the game play is dissapointing. The basic game play is aweful too. I found myself dying not because of being killed by a villain but rather from me falling off some cliff (or rather) due to bad camera angles. It's not fun when you don't have a reason to die and yet you do. If you want to be frustrated for hours, then get it. Or else, save your money and buy a better game.
- Worst PS3 Purchase Possible
     By A2VDYPI9MW2NOV on 2007-02-25
I am another who deeply regrets wasting my $60 on this game. If you can stand the CONSTANT loading, then maybe you could tolerate the glitchy graphics, and average (AT BEST) storyline and gameplay.
Total disappointment. Honestly, I enjoyed the original Sega Genesis version to this one, HANDS DOWN.
Save your money for Rainbow 6, or Battlefield Bad Company
- The Opposite of Fun...
     By A3ASE4TZL0QYZV on 2007-12-09
Allow me to join the chorus of 'boos' for this game. The only Sonic game I've ever played was the original game on one of the Sega systems. When I saw this game pretty cheap at Target, I thought hey that oughta be fun! Turns out, it is the opposite of fun. Bad Control, bizarre camera angles (one moment, you are running or jumping straight ahead, the next moment, you are flying 90 degrees off into oblivion because the camera just changed..) LOOOONG load screens like every 5 seconds (brought on by the fact than you will DIE every 5 seconds through no fault of your own). It is just generally awful. Buy this for your worst enemy...maybe...but not for anyone you care remotely about.

So far I have played most of the three characters
Lots of fun stuff to do and great story. Graphics rock as does the sound and levels. Don't listen to people who hate as they are older fans where as the game is geared to new players of Sonic.
The controls are a bit hard to get at first for younger gamers where as they are easy for older. Once you get the hang of it you are ready to play this great game. The more you progress the more ways the game gives you to destroy your enemies. With the small Town Missions plus Levels and Bosses and a whole 3 character episodes to play you will be waiting for the next level to be open. Also with the whole of the cast as playable characters there is lots to do.
The story has been greatly written and makes you want to see and hear more. As you continue to play and watch and listen to the story you will find you want more of the story told.
So my advice is if you want to be careful rent it first but if you get the real game learn the control and then watch and listen to the story.
Don't listen to what others say and think for yourself.
HAVE FUN!!!!
- Do not trust the five star reviews. Sonic isn't good anymore.

Why are so many people singing this game's praises? I have it for the XBox 360 (same exact game) and it's the worst Sonic game yet. Sure, it looks pretty, but that's about all it has to offer. The controls are unresponsive and twitchy. Get used to falling off ledges to your death. You'll do it a lot. This game is riddled with glitchy gameplay. The camera positions itself so you can't see where you're going sometimes, and if you move it, when you move it resets itself. If you get this for your child/boyfriend/husband, all they will experience is frustration. No time went into testing this game and all the funds were spent on visuals rather than programming. This game was literally rushed to market unfinished.
Here are some reviews of the XBox 360 vesion, which is more or less the exact same game...

- Horrible
     By A21TKSXRT456SA on 2007-02-10
This game is not worth spending the money on. The controls are very hard to master and keep a handle on Sonic. The load times verses the actual play time are rediculous. It seems as though the levels are very short and un-eventfull. The angles of camera change often and dont offer the best view most of the time. I was very disappointed in this game and wish I would have rented it before I bought it.
- DO NOT BUY THIS GAME!!!
     By AFPDS60PRNVPH on 2007-02-07
Sonic is a game that you should only rent. I've played a good handfull of PS3 games, such as resistance, madden, need for speed and tony hawk and none of these games were as hard as sonic is to master. I do not like the gameplay at all, text boxes get in the way, there are more than one action assigned to a certain control and sometimes the game freezes my playstation 3. There are many problems wrong with the Sonic game and i could probably go on. Half the time you don't even control sonic and he will fall off the track. SEGA should have spent a lot more time perfecting this game. The graphics, however, are a nice feature... state of the art graphics and the enemies are beatable. Those are the only two things I like about sonic. I stood it out and beat the game but it was hard. Final verdict- the game is a good game if you like to get mad because sonic won't do what you tell him to do. I've played a lot of PS3 games and this is by far the worst, besides marvel alliance.
- Don't buy
     By A1VH23UTJ0HZ on 2007-07-05
I played Sonic's other version and expecting to play a nice platform shot-m-up game, but such a disappointment. I am just glad it was a rent, I didn't paid $60 for it. Even if it gets discounted to $10, I will still not buy it.
- Suck-tastic
     By A2HAPQOPAUGCIE on 2007-07-13
Alright, I love Sonic. The entire series has kept me entertained since I was yay-high. *lowers hand to knee length* This game, rather simply, SSSUUUCCCKKKSSSS!!!! This, I am sad to say, WILL be the last Sonic game I buy because as of late Sonic games have been getting worse and worse.
The loading is aggravating to say the least.
Camera's should almost ALWAYS be behind the character and be able to toggle to the sides at the player's discretion.
And when you designate a control for a function, maybe, just maybe, that button should control that function. Not let you fall off a cliff innumerable times.
- Sonic - For Better or For Worse
     By A2LHDUMLCGNCBO on 2007-02-01
It's been awhile since I've had experience with the Sonic series. The last time I actually picked up a game with the blue hero, it was back on the game gear, so I had my hopes up when I found that it would be coming to the PS3. Not only was I getting Sonic, but it'll be in 720p? What more could you want?
The intro is beautiful. The scene really makes impressive use of ps3 hardware (though I'm sure future games will push that even further). The beginning game play is decent, and the level seems interesting enough.
To continue on the graphics though, while some cut scenes seem very well designed and impressive, others seem like they were quickly thrown together, and that they would barely push a ps2 to its limits.
Controls are an issue in this game. When you're jumping and then attack, the control is completely in your hands, but if you need to rebound off of objects to cross a long distance, the only thing the player needs to do is time the pressing of the proper button. Also, when powering up to get some speed in a run, you can only launch off in one of 4 directions. The lack of 360 degree control is slightly frustrating in that aspect. There are also times (specifically, when Sonic is snowboarding) where the controls are absurdly unresponsive. While putting a super fast creature into an extreme sport known for speed sounds, the implementation of it is completely botched.
The camera can be a bit annoying as well. At times, you'll be trying to line up the next direction you're heading off into, and as soon as you cross a certain threshold, the camera will catapult you into a different view. You, however, will be holding the direction you want to go, which, relative to your new camera angle will change, and you will suddenly switch directions. There are also times when you need to line up dropping things on to a target however the default camera will be pointing upward, so you will be blindly bombing those below you.
Perhaps the worst thing I've encountered in the game is the saves. They are extremely far apart, and it is possible to play an hour without a chance to save only to loose all your lives due to a problem mentioned above and have to replay all that lost time.
Pros:
Sonic
Simplistic Levels (good for younger gamers)
More Sonic
Sometimes impressive cut scenes.
Cons:
Controls
Camera
Distance between saves.
Conclusion: If you're a huge Sonic fan, get this game. If you can look past the various bugs and issues, it's a good time. However, those bugs can sometimes distract you from that fact.
- 3 Hedgehogs, 2 Worlds, 1 Huge Battle
     By on 2007-02-05
Fianlly it's here the best game ever SONIC THE HEDGEHOG!!! Man I waited forever to get this game and it's fianlly here. I was very surprised that Blaze The Cat returned with Silver in the game though. When I saw the preview I just knew I had to get the game. I was kinda disspointed in the previous Sonic Riders game due to the fact you couldn't really battle anybody but thats all over now. The game is full of bosses including the great Sonic VS Silver battle! There is nothing bad about the game not even all the loading screans bother me and you can change the camra in the game Gamespot just lied to all of you pepole if you read there review about the game. I also was happy that the game had more than just action stages beacuase you can also go into the town and do Missions my favroite is Vs Sonic Man beacuase some werido thinks hes Sonic and you have to race him and it is funny! All my friends love Sonic and some of them owen the game (One of them has the Xbox360 version) and they all loved it. Deffintly reccomended even if you don't know what Sonic is. Now that you've read this Click On the ADD TO CART button and order this game now!
- Do not buy
     By A39M6BXCK6XCHX on 2007-02-14
This game is, in a nutshell, unfinished. The core of the game is flawed because not enough time was spent on programming. The long load times are not an exaggeration, go to youtube and search for sonic load times. The video's are not doctored, it will really take 5 minutes to do a mission which requires 1 minute of play. And the worst part is many of these glitches and load times could have been fixed. Easily. So shame on you SEGA for trying to deceive your fans by calling this beta version a completed game. THATS NO GOOD!
- Not at all what I expected OR hoped for !!
     By A1SBTYSRVCJI1D on 2007-02-26
I have to say, that when I first put this game in my PS3 that my disappointment was immediate. The graphics, for what one would expect on the PS3 are very underwhelming. After playing games like Call of Duty 3 and seeing some of what PS3 is capable of, it is very disappointing to see PS2 level (at best) graphics in a game that costs the same as Call of Duty 3. The initial levels are boring and dull and do not suck you into the game at all. The initial cut scene is beautiful and gets your hopes up only to dash them moments later. PS2 games like God of War had MUCH better graphics. I am very disappointed so far with what Sony, Sega, and other software firms have offered for PS3. After screwing up the launch, I thought for sure that they would be looking to gain back some momentum by releasing strong, graphically beautiful titles that harness the power of the machine, but not so far, at least not with Sonic the Hedgehog. I recommend you skip this one, at least until the price comes down a lot.
- Sega Hates Children
     By A1MRPX3RM48T2I on 2007-12-22
Imagine your child coming up to you in tears because "Someone shot Sonic! I was standing there and he died! And his body was lying on the ground and I don't know why they shot him!" This is what I get for not watching every minute of this horrible game.
My daughter and I have played every Sonic game we could get our hands on. Some of them are wonderful, some were pretty awful, but THIS is the one I have to tell you about. In the beginning, I was fascinated by this long, glossy, Final-Fantasy-looking cinematic. But once the gameplay starts, it's a hideous awful disaster. This Sonic game doesn't know if it wants to be a role-playing game or a 3D action game, but both are unbearable: "missions" to wander around and figure out who to talk to (there's a "puzzle" that has no pattern, for example--you just talk to everybody until one of them coughs up an answer...but he lies to you the first time to make you go around again), and worst of all, levels where you tear along at a high rate of speed, and then plant face-first into death. Touch the controls and screw everything up. Don't touch the contols, and screw everything up. If I tried to make a video of the gameplay, it'd be an endless montage of death after death, many of which you don't even know what you did wrong. The only way to get through is to be a robot: "I pressed the X button last time, now let's see if Triangle does anything."
- LOADING....LOADING>>>>>LOADING>>>>>>>
     By A2N8E3VQ4I4TBU on 2007-02-06
This game takes way too long to load. I can't believe the amount of time I waste waiting for things to load. I thought that one of the things they were going to cut down on with the ps3 were the number of transitions and loads necessary to play even the most hardware intensive games. At least games like call to duty 3 have a story line that plays while things are loading. Then to top it off the game just isn't that much fun. I was bored in the first 45 minutes I owned the game. I went and traded it in for tonyhawk. Much more entertaining for my money. I would definitely rent this one before buying it.
- Return Of The Hedgehog
     By on 2007-02-06
This is the best Sonic game outthere at the moment and I wouldn't trust any 1 star reviews. I was very surprised by Sonics speed he can run superfast at certian points in a level and can even turn into a small sonic so he can run fast at times to. I don't think the loadings a big deal just wait about 20secs and youll be playing. I also thought that the gameplay was good the controls are easy. But the best part of all is they fixed the glitchs from the Xbox360 version. Im deffintly getting anyother Sonic game that come out for the PS3. I hope Sonic countiunes making good games. Overall Sonic makes a great return for the nextgenaration.
- Good graphics. Terrible gameplay.
     By A2FOHYGGY02198 on 2007-02-20
This is hands-down the worst game I have ever played. I would much rather play tetris on an original gameboy than the new Sonic on the PS3. Poor gameplay, quirky camera, lame new characters, lenghty distance between saves, boring levels. Rent it first, you WILL be dissappointed.
- Tedious and repititious
     By A16852IZ66YGO1 on 2007-03-08
I enjoyed Sonic quite a bit when it was a frenetic scroller on the DC and even the one that's out for PSP is reminiscent of the originals. Sadly, the 3d environment, twitchy controls, and unforgiving timing critical events, leave you wanting and frustrated. You're forced to repeat segments in multiple zones until you're sick to death of seeing the sequence and hearing the same droning cutsey dialog. This is exacerbated by a lack of save points. Visually it's decent, but hardly a showcase for a next-gen platformer. This one is likely to spend most of its life on the shelf.
- Sonic in his greatest adventure!
     By on 2007-04-14
Sonic 15 (that's what I call this game due to his 15th Birthday) is one of the greatest Sonic games ever. There's lots of characters, speed and levels! I like the idea of Sonic trying to save a princess, who is the damsel in distress. This game is awesome! Don't listen to those 1-star reviews! Get this game! I RECOMMEND IT!

- Sonic Enters The Next-genaration
     By on 2007-01-31
This Sonic game promied to be true to it's roots but its really like Sonic Adventure not that that's a bad thing but it's just that it looks like a reamke more than a new game the gameplay is fast enough to make you hurl up and the graphics are colorful and cute in their own distinguished mannner.
However the Sound does'nt really wow you it just makes you sit there and wonder why Steve Urkel is voicing Sonic in a Game the game isnt all that long but its fun and addictive and it's multiplayer is also pretty cool
- Unfortunately, not worth it
     By A2820664KZWD30 on 2007-02-01
I was too disappointed with this game. After waiting almost 2 months to pick up my pre-order, I ran it for about 2 hours, but only got in about 45 minutes of playing. The game Loads about 4x as many times as any other game. Every 5 minutes its "Now Loading" something else, it loads slow, and often it just goes through the "Now Loading" to have a character say something, then loads again for the level...
- Best PS3 game out there
     By on 2007-02-06
I really like this game beacuase not only can you play as Sonic you can also play as other charecters like Shadow and Silver and short apprences by other Charecters. I think this game is alot better than that Resistence game that has no point at all and is just mindless dumb war stuff. Im going to play this game right now and you should buy it too if you like Sonic!
- Don't trust the haters
     By on 2007-02-11
I don't know why these people hate on this game so much this sonic game is probabley the best sonic game I ever played its way better than the dreamcast sonic games so I give this game 5 stars the missons on the game are difficult but challenging this game is real good espcially that you get to play with the great sonic as well as silver new character and shadow too.
- A really bad game. For Sonic fans only.
     By ARMT26SADFCQK on 2007-03-12
I was waiting for this game to come out for PS3. The only positive thing about this game that I can say after playing it for over two weeks is that it states that it supports 720p, but actually shows on my HDTV as 1080i via component connection, which was a nice surprise. The niceties pretty much end there.
I would say the quality of this game is ok, but the gameplay is really awful!
The motion control is bad, the camera is even worse.
When the Sonic is running forward, hits something and loses a life, he ends up stuck, beating his head against a wall for several seconds, or just flies away to never-never land. The worst thing is that if you lose all lives, you have to start over. The save points are far-far-far apart.
Don't bother with this game unless you are a hard-core Sonic fan, and just want to have this game, period.
There are better games out for PS. Resistance. Motorstorm. Ridge Racer 7. Virtua Fighter.
