  • must set video output on ipod

    By A1XDX443FFJOOP on 2007-08-03
I got this recently so the kids could watch their shows loaded on the ipod on the TV. Audio worked fine but I couldn't get video at all. Had it back in the package to ship back to Amazon and then found the following instructions on another website:

The AV Cable allows you to connect your iPod/iPhone with color screen to your home entertainment system. Now you can view your videos, pictures or slideshows with audio on your home television.

Setting Up Your iPod Video Options Before Watch iPod Video on TV
1.Turn on your iPod, choose Videos -> Video Settings from your main iPod menu. This screen will show three settings: TV Out, TV Signal and Widescreen.
2.Select TV Out, make sure you select "On" that will produce TV signal.
3.TV Signal: If you live in the U.S., your TV works with the NTSC standard. European countries mostly use PAL.
4.Widescreen: You can choose "On" to produce a widescreen signal (16:9), or "off" to export the traditional TV output (4:3).

SO...after changing it to "TV output ON", it works! Shows downloaded through a website other than itunes are a bit fuzzy (they look fine on the ipod screen which is much smaller, also fuzzy in full screen on the computer). Shows downloaded from itunes are sharp and clear on the TV. Also used this to hook up the ipod to my stereo, works great for that also.

  • Does NOT work with new iPods, like 3rd gen iPod nano !

    By A1R6D96JCZ3U5V on 2007-10-03
It's not enough to say "for iPod" anymore. The new iPods that came out in September 2007 are different in many ways. This cable will NOT work for a 3rd generation iPod nano. The reason is that you cannot set "tv out" to On on an iPod nano unless the proper cable is plugged into the dock connector. Plugging a cable into the headphone jack (which is where this cable goes) will not allow you to change the "tv out" setting. For more info about this bad decision by Apple, just google < ipod nano "tv out" setting >, and read about "TV Out locked in new iPod classic and nano". Yes, apparently this cable will not work with the new iPod classic, either. The cable that works is apparently the one that Apple will sell you for $50.00. Yup, FIFTY.

  • Cheap, attractive and works great!

    By ANSFRRLSKV39G on 2007-06-04
I bought this product from the vendor ClearAV, and it arrived quickly, worked great and was packaged attractively (in the typical clean white box with iPod style package design). Cable is about 3 feet long, which is fine for my usage with my AV receiver. iPod sounds great through the receiver and the video image is reasonably sharp on my HDTV (it's not high def, but it's an analog signal, so I didn't expect that). Overall, a great little cable for the price (about 5 bucks).

  • Does the job for less money

    By A720S06Y6KV49 on 2007-01-22
I just can't see paying Apple a fortune for a cable that does exactly what this one does. The only reason it's not 5 stars is that the color bands are on the inside top edge of the plugs, and that's a little annoying. I wish they were simply on the outside of each plug like normal. Also, I would like to see these offered in black. We're not all obsessed with Apple white! Other than that? Plug it in and you get video and audio to your receiver, TV or other device. And you get it for less. Who doesn't love a bargain?

  • Compatibility Issues with New iPods

    By A10ZBR6O8S8OCY on 2007-10-10
This cable DOES NOT work with iPod Touch, or 3rd Generation Nano. It will play AUDIO, but WILL NOT display video. Apple has gone the route of locking out their products to only 1st party and 3rd party licensed accessories. They will not allow you the option to set "TV Out" unless the "proper" cable is used.

The cable is very sturdy and is made of good quality materials. On the back of the packaging, it says "WORKS WITH 4G AND 5G iPod WITH COLOR SCREEN". I give my rating based on the quality of the cable material, and price, but I cannot test out the quality of the video output since it is not compatible with my iPod Touch. In order to watch your videos on the TV with the Touch, you will now have to shell out $50 or so to buy Apple's overpriced cables and accessories.

AGAIN, NO VIDEO OUTPUT WITH THIS CABLE FOR 3RD GEN NANO AND IPOD TOUCH.

  • Caution
    By A1YRLEHIFAC5A on 2007-12-07
This is an well made product. The only problem, this cable only works with the earlier versions of the iPod. I have the new iPod classic and the cable doesn't work. Should have done better on my homework.

  • Beware!! the new gen ipod classic does not work with this cable!!
    By A1BET5JNWMQSJ7 on 2008-04-17
I ordered this hoping to test my brand new ipod classic on TV. Once it arrived...(expedited shipping and all) I found out it wasn't working. YES I did set the TV out fx. I found the reason on the web... The new generation Ipod has a chip that prevents 3rd party cable from outputing to TV. You have to buy the 50 dollar cable from IPOD to do this... I think I'm going to buy 200 blank DVD's for the price and watch on DVD player... and I prob. won't buy IPOD again... should have gone with other company. Is it me or APPLE is more like Microsoft now?

  • No video with iPod Classic 80Gb
    By A2P82TZP0ATIH4 on 2008-01-07
I should have read farther into the reviews, the iPod Classic 80Gb won't send video out of the headphone jack.

  • Doesn't work on iPOD classic!
    By A3EL0A4U1P84QM on 2008-02-13
I have an 80 GB Classic iPOD and it completely didn't work on it. Nothing will work on newer iPOD models.

  • Works with TV but not portable DVD player
    By A3IXAOSFHQU7F3 on 2007-04-21
I purchased this AV cable from one of the 3rd party sellers. I brought the cable to connect my iPod to my portable DVD player (reason for the four stars) but the picture quality was very bad and I had problems with the picture appearing on the screen. The box stated the cable was 'made in China' but there wasn't any information in the box about the cable nor the company that made the cable. But it works great connected to the TV. Picture quality is great and I had no problems with using it with my TV connection. I would recommend it to use connecting your iPod to the TV but not a portable DVD player.

  • Works great and saves money!
    By A30WGPCL5M544K on 2007-09-21
    I bought this iPod A/V cable for the price, even though it seemed shady b/c its cheap, and it works flawlessly! I can't believe that I was considering paying for other expensive A/V cables from Apple or Monster that do the same thing. It's 3 feet long and the color bands are on the outside, which make it easy to hook up to your TV. All of my Videos, TV Shows, and Movies are sharp and true to their original form. The only thing you need to be aware of is changing your video settings to TV Output on your iPod. I've seen tons of reviews for all brands of iPod A/V cables complaining that they don't work, when it is the user/owner who didn't take the time to figure out that you have to change the video settings. This is the best $5 I ever spent for the results that you get!Here is what you have to do;

  • nice cable
    By AOS34TDYUV30N on 2007-11-01
works good for audio, but does not work with 6th generation video ipods. guess you have to go though the dockin port?

  • Doesn't Work with New Generation (iPod Classic)
    By A39B8WXZNSDWJ9 on 2007-12-29
I should have read more about it before buying it.
Simply doesnt work for my iPod Classic 80Gb.

  • DOES NOT WORK for NEW iPods!!!
    By A2VIMSPT03CO98 on 2008-01-14
I'm sure this is a great product, but NOTE: IT DOES NOT WORK with the latest Classic iPod (80/160 G).

  • great for showing vacation pictures on the tube
    By A2RLQ7IBCBYUOV on 2006-11-08
these wires are great for showing vacation pictures on the tube (or any other pictures or video) to share with friends without passing around the tiny screened ipod. even better if you get a cordless remote.

  • Couldn't get it to work
    By A3AEZHWERQHH3T on 2007-01-25
I experienced what seemed to be a common problem for many people that have purchased av cables for the ipod. I was able to get the audio but no picture was available despite following the advice of other reviewers to set my TV out signal to on. It didn't help that no manual was included in the box to assist with troubleshooting.

  • Precious little cord
    By A12CWT7ATYZUCV on 2007-02-22
Increased the usability of my ipod video multifold. Built is strong, though I have only used for couple of months, it has the apprarence of those long lasting cords.

  • Perfect
    By A3MBVO7HHAF7XS on 2007-03-13
Did exactly what it was supposed to do. No problems at all. Much better than passing the screen to each person one by one. I love it.

  • Everyone with a Video iPod should have!
    By A3005SNKY8BPWT on 2007-04-06
I don't why Apple does't send this with every iPod, the TV shows look great on my TV!

  • Nice Cables
    By A28856U9KKTWJV on 2007-05-04
This audio/video cable seems to be very good quality. Sure beats the heck out of the $99 set from Apple to be sure, you can buy 5 or more of these for that. Not that you'd need to though, they seem to be a well made, high quality cable.

  • Audio and Video Cable for Ipod
    By A268CJKHY5OXGS on 2007-05-14
This cable aconomically allows an individual to connect their iPod to an alternate listening / viewing device rather than always listening or viewing through their computer or earbuds. Great product for the cost.

  • Why pay $30?
    By AK9G9DKV97BNP on 2007-05-22
I thought this offer was too good to be true. After seeing the price at the Apple store ($30 + tax) I had nothing to loose ordering this cable.

It works perfectly, great price and shipped in just a couple of days.

  • Disapointing
    By A2ETMJM4FR4M1S on 2007-07-29
This cable is universal which means it is not made specifically for Ipod's. The picture on the tv set was extremly fuzzy and distorted. However, when I purchased a new cable that was made for IPOD specifically, that one worked great.

  • What was expected
    By A2IBJOHZA8X7MP on 2007-10-21
The cable is good; it works with all video ipods with the exception of the newest generations (ipod nano, ipod classic, ipod touch). Simply plug the composite side into any TV input and the other end to the headphone jack of your ipod, and your ipod is connected to your TV (booth video and sound). Next, in video options click "TV On". This will make it so the video is broadcasted to the TV rather than displayed on the ipod screen. The video quality isn't the best. The videos on the ipod are compressed files, which causes an increase in pixilation. The composite wires also cause a loss in video quality, but its mainly just blurring. I have these hooked up to a 19 in TV and its looks fine. However, if you plan on hooking it up to a TV over 32", I'd get a higher quality cable (s-video), plan on sitting further away, or just forget about the ipod and use a DVD.

Pros: Simple to use, inexpensive, works
Cons: Causes a blurry image, itunes compresses ipod videos to the point that they are un-watchable on large TVs.

  • Does the job it was designed for very well
    By A2PRW52Q3ZN6VN on 2007-10-31
Great price (you could pay a LOT more for this from other companies), but I just wish the cord was longer. But simply buying an extension for the 1/8" part was all it took to make this perfect.

  • Cute cable, works very well
    By A3IVN2U8TYSIDX on 2007-11-21
Not too much to say except that it works very well on my Video iPod. It looks stylish too! Good value, recommended.

  • Cheap and (largely) effective
    By A3BF5UN7NIA2HE on 2007-11-30
Cheap method for connecting a video ipod to a TV. You may need to pull the jack slightly out of the ipod to get the best picture.

  • Great Product
    By A2ZE5HGV8V25QA on 2007-12-01
Bought this item because i didn't want to pay 30 or more dollars for an A/V Cable, my friend has one made by zune that he paid $35 for and the picture has lines going through it, however this cheap cable works better than his, better picture and sound through it compared to the one made by zune, even when plugged into my friends zune! Overall a good buy!!

  • Does not work with Ipod Classic
    By A1RR6INFO7NQBJ on 2008-01-13
This does not work with IPod Classic, i really wish that i can return this.

  • Won't work with my ipod touch or my ipod nano!
    By A8DJ4J73BS92H on 2008-02-25
The audio works with my ipod touch but no video! No audio or video with ipod nano. Can't reach the seller at all.
