Great activity for quiet time By A21B3KVF7Q4NJX on 2007-08-31
I bought this for my 18 month old because she is really into books, puzzles and stacking blocks. She picked up the beading concept right away and was thrilled with this new toy. I think the bright colors and variety of shapes are interesting to little ones and it's a great activity for teaching hand/eye coordination. The beads can also be used for stacking. We do this activity before naptime or bedtime as a quiet transition. This will be a perfect toy to grow with her as she gets older and starts learning patterns and color families. Another great product from Melissa & Doug.
Just okay. By A28G0CCPZUZZZ0 on 2007-10-23
Let me just say- I love the design & colors! My 4 year old has tons of fun creating patterns & making games out of the beads (blocks) & string. However, the paint chips easily, the blocks get dented & the overall quailty is "just okay". This is not a toy I see lasting through both of my childen (4 years & 4 months). I enjoy HABA's quailty better when it comes to wooden toys.
A calm activity By A36YBQ9FM8UCAI on 2008-01-02
This set of lacing beads is a big hit with my two year old. The beads seem durable, I haven't noticed any paint chipping, and they're big enough for small hands to grip. I like that the holes in the beads are wide enough that it doesn't cause any frustration while my child plays with it. The lace ( a colorful shoelace) is pretty long so I wouldn't recommend allowing a youngster to fiddle with this set alone. Great product. A good bang for your buck.
The toy is fun, but quality could be better By A1X96TALMFQV2O on 2008-07-18
My 2-year old son was interested in the toy from the moment he saw it. He enjoys stringing the beads and then dragging then around on the string. He can be entertained with it for quite a long time. The colors and shapes are fun and attractive.
The quality of the product leaves something to be desired. After playing with the beads on a hardwood floor for one evening, the paint has begun to rub off the edges of the pieces. The holes in the pieces are not sanded finely enough, so sometimes the string gets snagged when one tries to pull it through. Also, and I don't know if that is intentional, or if any other similar product does it differently, but the piece of the rope that is covered in plastic is too short: you have to hold the string about 1 inch away from the plastic covered part to fit it into the bead to be able to grab the string on the other end. An adult can do it of course, but it's hard to do for a 2-yo.
Great stationery activity for my 2-year-old By AMFI1I5DQ78S1 on 2008-05-14
I got this for my 2-year-old daughter when her baby brother was born to try to find something that would keep her still for a few minutes while I'm feeding her brother. It works pretty well for that - initially she would sit for 15 minutes trying to string the wooden "beads" but now she usually asks for help or loses interest after a few minutes. I think if I spent more time helping her she would like these more - they're definitely interesting to her but it's still too hard for her to string the beads on her own. However, she has learned her numbers better from the number beads and overall she really seems to like these.
- Love M & D toys!

This is such a great toy! We purchased it for our 4 year old sons birthday. He really enjoys stringing the beads and tying the string around various things in our house. It is great for small motor control!

My granddaughter is 3 and loves these beads;they are easy for her to use, colorful, and durable. I have given my grandchildren other Melissa & Doug puzzles and games and they are some of their favorites.
- Perfect lacing beads

My daughter just turned two, but already enjoys playing with these beads. I love the bright colors and how chunky they are. It is easy for her little fingers.
- Great toy ... a lot of fun!

My 2-year old son rec'd this toy for Christmas, and I have to say, it's another quality item by Melissa & Doug! The beads are very bright and colorful, and the laces go through the holes very easy. You can also stack the blocks into a tower. My son has been having a lot of fun with these blocks and figured out how to lace them right away. The blocks come in a little wooden tray which is nice for storage. I would highly recommend this lacing set. We are very happy with it.
- Not much interest

I bought this for my 33-month old son as his first introduction to lacing and I must say that I'm slightly disappointed. However, I think that if your child has already done some lacing in the past, then this would be more enjoyable for the child.
I have bought some lacing cards for him, and he seems to enjoy those more. I'm going to pull out this toy after a couple of months, and then update my review.
I think that this toy would encourage creativity in kids but may not be of much educational value, if they already know their shapes, numbers and colors. However, for an older child, say 4-5 years of age, I think the toy would help to reinforce some math concepts. I can see how it would be fun lacing the beads. I had a 4-yr old boy visit us and he seemed to like it, so age does matter.
- Great toddler toy

My daughter is 2 years old and she loves this toy. I believe it is teaching her dexterity and concentration skills. Some of the pieces are small so I would caution parents to supervise younger children when using this toy. Overall, I recommend this because it is a nice, classic wooden toy.
- Great, durable product

My 2.5yr old loves to play with this and it is a great toy to break out when prepping for dinner. I like the study box, although it would be better if it had a lid. It is an easily portable toy that can be used to entertain away from home. Great product!
- nice toy-would recommend it!

pretty good bang for the buck. It is nice, great price and looks like better quality than you'd expect for the price. Now if I can just convince my 3 year old to actually play with it the way she is supposed to! she drags the necklaces around and says it is a dog/cat/whatever animal that's popular that day.

- Melissa and Doug's Deluxe Wooden Lacing Beads
     By A34FT6H51GJG55 on 2008-05-13
I love the Melissa and Doug's Deluxe Wooden Lacing Beads I recently purchased for my 20 Month old grandaughter. She watches me when I am beading necklaces, and always wants to help. Now she can make her own beaded necklaces that are both eye catching, because of the bright colors, and easy to make. As an educator, I see value in the number matching and pattern making skills that we can also develop using the beads as she gets older. LOVE THEM! Kathy
