Good as they get By A3C6HONXBB72AB on 2006-11-09
I've been driving a Logitech Momo (black) for about 3 years, and loved it. Until now.
This new wheel, pedal, and gearshift set is, in a word, awesome.
With 900 degree wheel rotation, stronger force feedback, a clutch, and gated shifting the level of realism is unbelievable.
Did you ever want to go racing, but couldn't afford the time or cost? With this set and Live For Speed, GTR2, rFactor or (one of these days?) iRacing's as yet unreleased programs you can. And after some practice "in the privacy of your own home," you can go online and race LIVE with folks all over the world. You heart WILL pound and you WILL sweat!
Okay, maybe I'm weird, but at 60+ I still manage to find time to race 10-15 hours a week! And there are no long, tiring drives to the race track, no hotel and food expenses, no long waits for the other classes to get off the track, and no long drive home with a wrecked car on the trailer behind you. An hour behind the wheel is an hour racing.
I have a heart valve problem and there are times I wonder if this is really safe after all!
Fantastic product. Fully PS3 compatible. By A1R1VGIONY886F on 2007-07-04
I'm not an eloquent guy, and certainly not a frequent Amazon reviewer, but I just thought I'd clear up questions if anyone else is in the same boat I was (PS3 owner looking for a wheel).
I love driving sims for PS2, and thought the G25 would be a great way to get my dad to play some games too. I wasn't sure how the G25 would work with the PS3, but lo, it's flawless. Hooked up via USB, the wheel can fully mimic the function of the Driving Force Pro, so Gran Turismo and ToCA give you everything they've got. It also has a lot of future potential with the Gated gearbox and clutch-pedal that most current games don't use. The only reason you might keep a sixaxis handy is for the "home" button to quit to the XMB (ps3 OS).
"Feedback" is an understatement, as the word makes me think of the N64 rumble-pack. Most of you potential buyers are already aware of the wheel pulling you out of turns, or giving enough feedback so you know just when you're about to lose grip through a corner. But the G25 can be so subtle that it almost creates a "3D" feedback map. I'm not sure how to explain it, but when your in-game left rear tire hits a rumble strip, it feel like that specific tire has really hit a rumble strip. I have no idea how they do this with just two force motors in the G25.
In any event, the quality of the road-response is absolutely worth the price, which is already pretty decent here with free shipping. The DFP was tempting, as I've tried it on a PS2, but this wheel is much more subtle, much better looking, and will be the gold-standard for future driving games. No regrets here, just a happy father-son bonding experience and less wear on our real-world cars.
The G25 is top-drawer all the way By A2NDWCVX2ZT8QV on 2006-12-26
After having one of the trusty ol' Thrustmasters many, many years ago, and then making do with various joysticks for a decade of piddling around with my Sims, my wife surprised me with this Cadillac (neh, a Ferrari and Rolls Royce all rolled into one). All I can say is, Wow... With nearly six-decades on the planet, younger/faster reflexes will often beat me, but the G25 is a great equalizer for those of us who'd really like to hang around the track in real-time again, but don't have enough hours left in the business week to keep a car competitive, let alone haul it back and forth... Anyone who has hung around real race-teams even at the local/amateur level will love the realism of the G25, and the easy trip to the exotic tracks of the world -- all while sitting behind first class equipment and not needing a second mortgage to do it.
Installation was quick on my workhorse XP machine -- although there is a basket of wires to get sorted through, but essentially a no-brainer... The G25 seems totally comfortable with my older Sim software (but now offers a compelling, and irresistible, reason to upgrade), and the separate mounting of the gearshift console makes getting the ergonomics right, very easy... Haven't begun to use all the features yet, but my track times dived almost immediately - largely due to the accuracy, precision and correctness of the movement - subtle moves translate into subtle moves, not jerks and sporadic twitches that separate this machine from lesser mechanisms... The smell of leather after a sweaty hour of racing Steve Kinser or Tony Stewart adds measurably to the realism and enjoyment, and the force-feedback is almost transparent... it does the usual wheel twitch when something "hits" the front wheels, but also handles the more subtle feel of the front-tires starting to let go at the beginning of understeer/push... nice, really nice... the grin factor is huge.
Great for the money By A21KO1RQ5AXBL9 on 2006-10-29
First the good.
The feedback is strong and prescise. Very smooth steering and it will immerse you into the game. NFS Most Wanted and GTR 2 are great with this wheel. The shifter is awesome, although you do not want to beat it up. A ginger approach makes it work best. The pedals are very solid with good tension, although you have to have very small feet if you are going to use all three. I use my clutch for the brake forgetting the middle pedal.
Now for the bad.
The clamping system works, but for how long? Plastic screws are only going to last so long, and you have to really tighten them for the wheel to stay put. There are mounting nuts on the bottom, but are you going to drill 2 holes through your desk? Microsoft has a superior clamp in my opinion. The shifter works well, and I am sure it will last with care. Be nice to it though. The pedals are to close together. Other than that, they are perfect.
Overall, I highly recommend this wheel. For the money you can't get a better wheel.
G25 : Not perfect, but still a very good bet By ASRKQNWF3X2UZ on 2007-09-28
I have been using Logi MOMO (the original red one) for the last 7 years, so I am immune to the "wow-factor" which seems to affect many people when they move to a nice wheel from a less than stellar one, or even a keyboard. Its a given that G25 is greatly superior to the vast hordes of me-too wheels out there, and comparison with using a keyboard is downright embarassing. So we wont even go there. Suffice to say that the G25 is among the better ways to spend your (or your dad's) well earned money.
No, this review is from the point of view of a person who has logged thousands of hours on a very high quality wheel, and then comparing the G25 experience with the previous one. So lets get on with it... :-)
Appearances : A good friend of mine once said... "i'm telling ya, the leather, and metal and paddles, is about perfect...". That applies to this wheel as well :D. Very sleek appearance, and a pleasure to behold.. the wheel and the shifter. The pedals, though, look a bit.. umm... un-elegant (bet hey, they're down there, out of sight..).
(Of course, my friend was talking about his own G25 when he made that comment, but it wouldnt be so funny if I had told you that right off the bat, now, would it..? .. ;-))
Installation :
Pros : Is a snap, and very intuitive. Everything connects in to the wheel. A smart little touch by Logitech, using different types of connectors for each cable, so you cant possibly plug a cable into a wrong socket. Attaching the wheel and shifter to the desk is also as easy as it gets.
Cons : 1. Now to the first thing I disliked about this wheel. Everything connects to the wheel. That means there are FOUR cables coming out of the wheel, and on to your desk. Thats 3 cables too many for me, adding to the clutter. Also, if you like to "stow away" your wheel after you've done your gaming, it could get cumbersome really soon. It is also not possible to remove any cables once your wheel has been attached to your desk, since the connectors are on the underside of the wheel. That has been a bit of an issue for me (not a showstopper though), but others may not be bothered by this at all. But at least, now you know.. fore-warned is fore-armed... :-)
2. Second con for me, the clamps on the wheel (to grip the desk) are a little on the smaller side. My desk curves a bit, so the clamps reach the edge of the tabletop with VERY LITTLE to spare. Its ok for me, but a little more curvature, and you can't use the clamp. Period.
Hardware (Wheel) :
Pros : 900 degrees of rotation, which is more than what you could conceivably need. Solidly constructed, and offers a good grip. A couple of little indentations just above the 3 and 9 o'clock help ensure your hands dont slide off during the heat of the moment. The wheel mounted butterfly-pedals are brushed stainless steel, sturdy, and offer a satisfying click. I read somewhere that Logitech is moving away from the "click", but this is clicky enough for me..:-). Another nice little touch here.. the pedals are "tall" enough that you are not limited to the 3&9 o'clock driving positions to be able to access these pedals. I use the 3&9 grip for my racing, so no advantage for me but for those who don't, rejoice.. :).
Cons : 1. Only two buttons on the wheel. Sure there are MANY more on the shifter-unit, but when you're in the middle of an intense section, the last thing you want to do is to take your hand off the wheel (AND eyes off the screen) to locate and press a button on the shifter. Im my opinion, a wheel should at least have 4 buttons.
2. Also, the two buttons are not positioned very well. They are exactly at 9 and 3 O'clock. So whats the problem with that? If you GRIP the wheel at 9 and 3, then the NATURAL position of your thumb would be closer to 10 and 2. To get to these buttons, you either have to change your grip on the fly, or bend your thumbs in an unnatural position. You could probably get used to it in a while, but if your coming off off a wheel with perfectly placed buttons, then it takes a bit of an adjustment.
Hardware (pedals) :
Pros : Fully functional clutch. And that too one with full "travel". 0 to 100, you may call it, as opposed to 0/1 ON/OFF button style clutch you'd get to see in some models. The stiffness of the three pedals (clutch, brake, gas) is respectably close to real life. Not the flimsy stuff (specially brakes) you find in other sets. Nice touches, but the feature I was most impressed with was the little retractable spike-belt at the bottom on the pedal set. This grips (and I mean GRIPS) on to your carpet, keeping the pedal set stationary under moments of heavy braking. This is a brilliant idea, I'm surprised it hasn't been implemented before. So simple, yet so effective. No more putting blocks behind the pedal set for me and bracing these blocks against the wall to keep the pedals from running away from me.. :-) (ahh.. the things we pseudo-racers do to get our kicks.. lol)
Cons : 1. The inclusion of clutch means that we are little cramped for space down there. The brakes and gas pedals are a little too close, and you can often get your ankles (and heels) tapping each other if you do left-foot braking. For right-foot braking folks, this is a gift from heavens, I suppose... but I prefer some space between my gas and brake pedals.
2. For all its stiffness, the resistance in the brake pedal is still not progressive. This makes it difficult to tell, just by your feet, how much braking you have done (and of course, more lock-ups). Of course, in all my years of sim-racing I have yet to come across a set which does that, but in other sets you could replace the brake spring with something more suitable (squash ball, tennis ball, dead squirrel ;)) to get that progressive resistance feeling. If you dont know what the he11 I am talking about, try it out (not the dead squirrel though, they tend to shrivel up after a while, not to mention the stench.. lol, but if you can get a fresh one ever day, go for it... ;-D). I assure you, progressive resistance on a brake pedal makes a HUGE difference to the consistency of your braking. In G25 however, that modification is not possible, since the brakes are in the form of a piston assembly.
**[EDIT (Nov 19, 2007) : I have since found out that such a mod is indeed possible, it's just a little more involved]
3. No swivel-tops at the top of the pedal. Some people abhorr them, some love them. I am in the second category. The swivel top ensures that no matter what angle your feet hit the pedal, it feels natural (because the top swivels to align itself with your feet). Fixed top pedals offer a very limited range from which your feet can "hit" the pedal comfortably. And as you press down on the pedal, that angle changes, and you have to adjust your feet to accomodate that change (If you dont know what a swivel top pedal is, check out the pedals on the red Logitech MOMO force racing wheel. Its no longer sold but at least is listed out here on Amazon so you can check it out)
Hardware (shifter) :
For all the noises I make about my experience in sim-racing, my experience with shifters amounts to ZILCH... :P. I've always preferred the wheel-mounted paddles for my gearshifts, and dont see that preference changing anytime soon. What'd Jim Morisson say about driving?... oh yeah.. keep your eyes on the road and your hands upon the wheel... ;-). For what its worth, the shifter looks nice, and competent. I'm just not the right guy to review it. Even if I use the shifter with G25, I have no previous experience to evaluate it against.
Driving experience :
The first thing I noticed with this wheel was how weird some tracks look when you end up facing the wrong way... ;-D. The feel of G25 is noticably different from my MOMO. Not worse, not better, just different. I noticed that I was over-steering (hence spinning) a lot more with this wheel than I was with my older one (I know what you're thinking... 900 degrees of rotation, but thats not it. You can actually set how many degrees you want, and I set it to 270, which is what my old wheel had.. to make the transition smoother). To compensate for that, I had to use a lot more throttle in mid-corner compared to the old one. Thats not necessarily a bad thing. As long as I can control the car and get it going where I want, I dont care if I am using only the wheel, or wheel+throttle+brakes. I personally prefer the wheel+throttle+brakes, thats why I love my old Momo so much since it was so good at that.
The force feedback is pretty strong, about the same as red MOMO which I thought was too strong (hey, I am a small guy.. lol). Fortunately (as with the Momo), the FF can be fine-tuned to your liking, and with these tunings, the FF felt very nice. Precise enough to let you know what the car was doing, but subtle enough not to tear your arms away.. :-). Just like the red MOMO, and that's a compliment.
Overall experience was positive, even though I have had more spins in the last 2 days than I did in the last 2 yrs (the darn "getting used to" process..:P). With a little more time, I think I could get used to this wheel and be competitive again. Currently I'm about .5-.7 seconds slower with G25 than I was with the Momo, on an average track. And thats a good sign. I didnt expect to be that close to my Momo timing so soon with a new wheel. This could mean one of two things, a) this wheel is extremely good (which is a good thing), or b) the G25 handles more like the red MOMO than what I currently think (which is also a good thing).
Now, if I can only get used to the lack of progressive resistance in the brakes... :-). If there is one thing that could make me regret giving up my Momo, THAT would be it.
**[EDIT (Nov 19, 2007) : I have since found out that a mod for this is possible, it's just a little more involved than what I did for Momo. There's goes my major complaint.. :-)]
- Worth the *big* bucks!
     By A14VWK3RF7VCH on 2006-10-21
Considering the Logitech website states that this product isn't available until Oct.31st, I don't know why people are ancy. Mine came 3 weeks ahead of Amazon's estimate.
ANYWAY... Phenomenal build quality, largest diameter wheel available, and sturdy pedal base are among the highlights. The shifter unit feels flimsy, but as long as you don't overdo it, it should last. Its still just cool enough that they were able to pack in a gated shifter with a sequential option. I've played rFactor, GTR2 and Richard Burns Rally with the wheel and the feedback is awesome. GTR2 probably does it the best. If you're ready to step up from consumer wheels, and you can't afford the prosumer BRD and ECCI stuff, I don't think you'd be disappointed with this.
- Solid construction, but it wasn't for me...
     By AN81JUYW2SL24 on 2007-05-14
The Logitech G25 is well built and a top tier PC steering wheel/pedal setup that would be well suited for gamers interested in motorsports.
1). Steering Wheel.
The wheel is very small and for good reason. It takes up a huge section of my computer desk and if the wheel were larger, it would be monstrous. The force feedback (FFB) is very finicky and requires constant tweaking to get it right for each type of game. This is not a setup and forget deal! There are dozens of people on the GTR2 and rFactor forums constantly tweaking the FFB settings trying to get it right. It just doesn't feel like the real thing even after spending hours fine-tuning it. I don't "feel" the right amount of resistance while making a turn. The steering wheel is too stiff or overdamped most of the time. Trying to make a simple low speed turn required excessive effort. The stainless steel paddle shifters always got in the way and I thought they were going to slice my fingers at one point. The "leather" is very cheap plasticized leather like the stuff you find on GM cars.
2). Shifter.
The shifter is the worst part out of the entire G25 kit. The short-throw is fun for the first few seconds until you find that the lack of resistance in the "gearbox" and ease of accidentally shifting into the wrong gear makes it feel like a kid's playschool toy. Overall the shifter felt very cheesy and it was easy to miss your shifts.
3). Pedals.
The pedals are spaced way too close together to even feel remotely realistic. The clutch pedal has no resistance (hydraulic and cable clutches have SOME resistance, more so than the throttle at least), the brake pedal feels too stiff all the way through and you could bottom it out. On a normal car, bottoming out the brake pedal means your hydraulic system has overboiled, has failed, or has air in the system (bad juju). The throttle does feel realistic because most modern cars have drive-by-wire where the throttle pedal is linked to a sensor that transmits the data to the PCM so the throttle motor moves the plate (in essence, the interface is the same as the G25 throttle). I found that my size 12 shoe kept touching the throttle whenever I used the brakes. There was no dead-pedal location to rest my clutch foot.
Bottom line:
The G25 would be a great tool/toy for youngsters trying to figure out cars, interested in motorsports, or going for their license. I found that the G25 just didn't feel realistic enough to me and I felt it wasn't worth the price. I spent over a week trying it out with GTR2 and I couldn't get my times even close to what I had with just the keyboard because I found that my times were consistently faster using the keyboard. The steering response with the FFB wheel was very vague and useless. The shifter felt like a toy, and the pedals just didn't feel right.
My biggest complaint with the G25 is the high cost because you're essentially just buying a good wheel and set of pedals. The DFGT has both of these for 1/2 the price, so Logitech could have cut the cost of the G25 by not including an overly complex toy of a shifter. Basically take the DFGT wheel, mate it with the G25 pedals and include a simple sequential shifter and paddle shifters. The clutch can also be left out because less than 1% of driving games have a clutch and only a few games like Viper Racing seemed to have modeled the clutch accurately. GTR, GTR2, Race, Race 07, and GTR Evolution include a clutch but it serves no real purpose.
Update:
I ordered the Logitech Driving Force GT since I read that Logitech used lessons learned from the G25 wheel and improved on the Driving Force Pro wheel to develop the DFGT wheel. I know the pedals aren't going to be as robust as the pedals on the G25, but at least the DFGT is 1/2 the price of the G25.
I would recommend that Logitech sell the G25/DFGT wheel, a sequential shifter, and G25 pedals w/o the gated shifter at a lower price. Modern direct-shift gearboxes use paddle shifters anyhow: Nissan GT-R, Audi DSG, Lamborghini Gallardo, etc...
- Finally a wheel with all the features!
     By A2092HXJRKDZG2 on 2006-11-03
I've had a few wheels before, but finally Logitech came out with a wheel thats simulation grade. The 6 speed shifter works great, and as for the clutch, I've found that there are plenty of games that support it, including GTR2 and Need for Speed Carbon thats just coming out. Besides the lengthy setup and steep price, this is a great wheel for a great racing experience.
- Good While it lasted
     By AJKU3731SJ7RE on 2007-05-12
Well I bought the G25 six weeks ago and things went pretty well. The installation was easy, The wheel has plenty of features and the only problem I had was that my desk has a rounded top edge and this caused the wheel and the shifter to not clamp well enough to keep from rocking. The clamps on my old MOMO reached further back and didn't have this problem. But the wheel worked fine for about six weeks. Then I noticed that the center location of the wheel was drifting left or right while racing with the wheel. It would be centered at the start of a race, but would be 90 deg off by the end of 1.5 hours of racing. Annoying, but not desastrous. Now the wheel no longer works at all. The pedals and buttons all work fine, but the wheel outputs NO SIGNAL to the game at all. I have racer friends who have the wheel and have not experienced any problems of this nature. I tried removing and reinstalling the software, but this did not help the problem. I had to get my "Old" MOMO from the attic in order to race. I will have Logitech replace the wheel and hope it was just a problem with this particular wheel.
- G25 wheel - GREAT handling, some defects
     By A3G0GWZEVLAMPS on 2007-02-23
I actually got this item at the same time as I purchased the Sparco racing cockpit (with a Siena seat), for playing Gran Turismo 4 primarily (although it also works great for NFS Most Wanted or F1 Championship on the PS3). The good news is this wheel is a huge improvement over the Driving Force Pro, and it seems Logitech has paid attention to the reviews in designing the G25. The overall physics of the feel and feedback is more accurate and lifelike, the action is much quieter than the zipper noise we used to endure, and now the wheel will actually straighten on its own like a real car does. I find that this is most helpful during rally or any kind of drift driving that is steering-happy, but even the twitchy Formula car is easier to handle. I also think that this wheel is more of the correct size, even for Formula 1 enthusiasts. The paddle shifters are of course better than the little buttons. I hardly need to say how much better it is to have leather and steel instead of plastic and rubber. And the pedals, even though the clutch is not yet supported by many games, are far better in terms of the weight of the brake pedal and the board overall.
Now for the bad news - within a week I started experiencing intermittent double-shifting from the right paddle (any gear, could be 1st to 3rd or 5th to 7th) which is really annoying even if you catch it quickly with your left paddle. I read that some WD40 could fix this, so I applied some and it seemed to help. Also, the new shifter mount hangs down quite a bit and is wider than the pro cockpit can currently accommodate (I have it mounted to the side so I can still use the other buttons which are no longer on the wheel itself). Finally, I don't really think the position of the brake and accelerator are quite right for heel-toe, despite what the product description claims.
Nevertheless, if you can get this wheel it will make driving games feel much more realistic (which makes them easier somehow, and more enjoyable). Within a few weeks I had little trouble clearing all the GT4 license tests with gold times. I'm sure the added accuracy of this equipment would help anyone improve their game.
- So much fun
     By A33D66MJJ73WKE on 2007-10-04
After searching the web to see what wheel(s) work with PS3, this was one of the most frequently mentioned, so I bit... and very glad I did. So, if you've got a PS3 and contemplating getting this wheel but not sure if it will work, rest assured it will.
For best results on a PS3, hook the USB cable to port 3 (or 1?), and restart the system without any other usb cables attached (no controllers), and then you are all set for some serious fun with this thing! Just use the keys on the gear shifter to get your games up and running.
Of the freely downloaded demos I've tried from the Playstation store, I found the following to work with this wheel, most with some degree of FF. Keep in mind I do not use the gear shifter, so I can not comment on the workings of it on these games.
Ridge Racer
GTHD
Sega Rally Revo (only worked when restarted as above) -- has serious FF!
Motorstorm - peddles do not work, but the buttons on the wheel will take their place. The Boost feature is on the shifter control, which is awkward, but it does work. No FF, tho.
Stuntman Ignition - no FF.
In addition, the two full version games I own both worked, with FF intact: DiRT, Need For Speed Carbon. I believe the DiRT demo does support the wheel.
- Simply Amazing
     By A3SPCTZA6T3ZBH on 2007-02-02
I bought two of these wheels for my game center down here in San Diego. I have to say that this is simply the best wheel I have ever played on. The pedals don't have feedback (something I wish someone would work on), but they do have a certain amount of resistance which only adds to the emersion. The 11" wheel is perftectly solid with 900 degree rotation. Size really does matter.
With tons of customers continually on the wheel in our racing chasis, I have not once had a problem with the hardware failing. We here at the Lost Sleep Club HIGHLY recommend this wheel.
- Addictive...
     By A3DTJE0UK0L1BC on 2007-01-30
Powerful force feedback. Wonderful product. Solid quality.
Highly recommend this wheel with SIMs like rFactor, GTR2 and RBR
(Richard Burns Rally), though personally my best experience is
with XPand Rally Extreme which somehow manages to really convey
the track quality via vibrations in the wheel...
Default support in games not always present (but can always be
customized). It's 5 Axis (which basically means that you can
press the break and the accelerator AT THE SAME TIME, something
that works really well in rally simulation games). I could use
more buttons on the steering wheel (though shift stick console
has plenty).
Wheel fits table fine, but shift stick console makes less sense when
attached to the the table so I've installed it on a small side table
for added reality.
Shifting gears does *not* require clutch to be pressed (i.e. there
is no interaction). H-pattern shifting is too 'light' for real-world
feeling.
Software that accompanies the wheel is sub-par. Someone could have
spent a little more time on getting the settings for popular games
together.
Problem: Cables are TOO SHORT.
The cable from the pedals is simply not long enough to reach from the
wheel, back down over the table, to the pedals. This may not be a
problem for the average desk, but it is on my dinner table, and is
highly annoying (forces you to direct all cables towards you, running
the risk of tearing one in the heat of the moment.
- Don't hesitate to buy this wheel
     By A3KOAIRG0CC0NR on 2007-03-06
If you haven't bought this wheel yet, buy it. It's worth the price. I picked this up in November of 2006, and I haven't regretted it at all. The build quality is fantastic, and everything seems to be very durable. The resistance of the clutch, brake and gas pedals seems to be about perfect. The gearbox works very well in manual mode. It does feel a bit light, but I've slammed the gearshift around for months now with ill effects---you can be very aggressive with it without worrying about breaking it. Also, the force feedback is very strong---comparable to the force feedback found in arcade racers.
There is still limited support for the 6-speed gearbox, but more games are coming out with support for it every day. I use it primarily for GTR2 and GT legends on the PC, but Gran Turismo HD is supposed to support it, as well as PGR 3 and Forza 2 on the Xbox 360. All in all, this wheel/pedal/shifter combo is a great value. I don't think I'll have to replace it for many years.
- Not nearly as good as other reviews would have you believe

After purchasing this wheel, I don't know why it gets so many overwhelmingly good reviews. The G25 is poorly constructed, has some design issues and didn't meet my expectations.
The wheel itself consists of a plastic housing with a metal wheel. This sounds nice until you realize that the wheel and paddles are just stainless steel stampings with unfinished edges. The center button on the wheel fell off when I removed the protective film. The "leather" doesn't feel like the real thing and the whole wheel is thin and hard. There are only two buttons on the wheel, meaning you have to reach over to the shifter to navigate your way through the game menus. The real issue with the wheel itself is the gear mechanism used for the force feedback. You can really feel the notches as the wheel rotates, which does NOT emulate a real steering feel. Logitech should have used a finer pitch gear for smoother movement (or used a belt drive like Fanatec.)
The shifter is the bane of this wheel. Its all plastic and the gates have no resistance. It feels like a toy. Because the action is so terrible, I usually opt for the paddle shifters just to avoid frustration.
The pedals are probably the best part of the setup. The pedals feel nice and the action is reasonable. The only gripe I have is with the brake pedal. It isn't progressive like a real brake pedal, and only becomes firm once you bottom it out.
The unit attaches to the console or PC using a USB cable. The cable is short and doesn't allow you to mount the wheel very far from the source.
Overall, I don't feel the wheel is worth the price. The problems detract from the driving experience and make it feel like you are using a toy versus a true simulator. I bought this wheel based on all the reviews posted here, but in my opinion the wheel is not deserving of all the praise. I would try this wheel out in person before shelling out the cash for it. Your money would be better spent elsewhere.

This is the best racing wheel on the market. Period. All the other wheels(including Logitech's own MOMO) look like toys compared to this. High quality materials and craftsmanship and the shifter is amazing. Great force feedback. This racing wheel and a copy of GTR2 is all you need to burn some serious rubber. The price is a little higher than what I usually pay for gaming devices but hey you get what you pay for..

After getting used to having a clutch(car dosen't stop pushing in a clutch) The wheel is great with good throttle and steeering control. The only fault that I have with it is I would have liked more of the buttons be on the wheel rather than the shifter. Running dirt and paved short tracks doesn't leave any time to look or fumble for a button. Being 64 doesn't help either. lol

Recently buying Gran Turismo 5 Prologue caused me to want to take my racing game up to the next level. Enter the G25 racing wheel. Playing GT in cockpit view almost seems like I am racing in Daytona. The feedback this wheel gives makes me feel the road and what I may be doing wrong or right. This wheel is set apart with it's shifter and clutch.
Of course a big plus is the complete compatibility with GT 5 Prologue. The learning curve is actually steep if you are used to using a regular controller as I am. Although I guess if you want to learn how to be a semi pro this is about as cheap of an investment you could make. This does make racing games a lot of fun. The components are rather heavy and well made. Now you may be asking, Where would I put this stuff? A desk or table would work fine. Although I am betting most of you don't have a table high enough or a desk available in your t.v. room. That's where the Playseats Evolution Gaming Seat comes in. I don't want to sound like an advertisement but if you are going to buy the wheel you will inevitably need this set up. Of course Amazon has it available and it makes the experience that much greater.
I would advise any racing fan who either has a PC, PS2, or PS3 to get this wheel. It really adds that experience you could only find in an arcade. And at one buck a pop that really adds up. This is about the cheapest piece of passion you can buy. And considering the prices of fuel right now this is about the cheapest ride you can buy.

I'm a 73 year old male that has been sim-racing-on-line for eight plus years. I feel this is the best, bar none, wheel for sim-racing EVER!!!
If any of you have the Nascar Racing 2003 by Sierra, this is the wheel for you!!!
I wrote the below review for my fellow NR2003 sim-racers. I feel it says it all!
Well here it is: It's been 3 months now that I've been using this here Logitech G25 wheel...and I LOVE it!!
Some questions that you might ask me, and my answers:
Q: Did the G25 make you any faster?
A: I can't say it did. But, for sure, NOT any slower! LOL
Q: Did it make you a better driver?
A: I think maybe it might have. But mostly because I want to be a better driver!
Q: Is using a clutch and an "H" shifting pattern hard to get used too?
A: It was at least a week before I really can say I got used to driving using them. But "NO" it was not hard.
Q: Does the wheel feel the same as when you first got it?
A: Yes and no. Yes it is still as smooth and easy to steer and shift now as it was NEW! In some ways easer, because I'm used to it!
Q: Why do you think it's better to have a clutch peddle and an "H" pattern shifting?
A: In one word: "REALISM"!!! But also you can shift from 4th to reverse in one motion, instead of "click", "click", "click" and "clicking" to get there! And my last three words: FUN,FUN, FUN!!!

This is a minor addition and variation on a very thorough review by Ravi "travi_74"
I have been using several Logitech Wingman FF Reds (plastic version of the original red one) in a home network for the last 5 years. I had been waiting for some time for this wheel since that other company went out of business. (The one that the original GTR worked with) I have known about these better wheel and pedal setups, but just couldn't justify parting with 400-600 dollars for a toy. (Translation: My wife would not be pleased) Now that Logitech has made a high quality set for a more reasonable price, I gave it a try.
This review is from the point of a driving enthusiast. Real driving practice without the wear and tear. Real driving aside, I have enjoyed numerous driving games that were fun but not simulators, until GTR and GTR2. Add this wheel and that's as close as you get to real driving dynamics and road response.
All setups have a learning curve. This one is no exception. It was very easy to adapt to though. Once you adjust for preference, you will find it hard to use any other wheel again. The feedback is very accurate and essential for best track times.
Set-Up: I love and hate the auto calibration. Some times it flakes out and requires re-plugging of the USB cable to get it right. On rare occasions between track changes their was some loss of road feel, but quickly remedied with a return to the garage and start again. This may only be the GTR2 game. Not often enough to ruin the experience.
Look and Feel: Wheel and Pedals, strong enough to play without fear of breaking it. Tight and responsive gearing and paddle clicks.
Major Gripe: The Shifter and those buttons are another story entirely. I agree with Ravi "travi_74" on the good for maybe teaching someone to drive stick before they grind a real clutch. It is difficult enough to compete in simulation games with anything other than paddle shifting. The realism factor of gated shifting is lost here. The tiptronic shift mode is easy enough to simulate, but who uses that. Not in the cars I like drive. There are so many things wrong with this from a realism perspective. Putting aside all the physical problems with a tiny laterally mounted short shift, gears that are too easy to shift and the springs that are way to weak to prevent missed shifts, I could put up with that. But the sensors are not up to snuff. If you pull it out of a gear, it still registers as in gear. That is a seriously flaw in realism. WHERE IS NUETRAL?
Maybe this is only in GTR2. Since that is the only program I have used with the G25. I have my doubts though. I don't even want to talk about the button placement. Sheesh. The button short-cuts are a necessity, but the placement really couldn't have been worse. I never expected to use the gated shifter in competition, but it would have been nice for the occasional drive through the country.
Overall: Well worth the investment. And the Amazon Pricing is always competitive.

I would rate this prodoct overall a good product. It has how ever had a few problems. The table clams mechamism does not seem to hold properly on all surfaces and tend to slip off the edge. which can be a problem if you are in the mid of a tricky corner or trying to avoid a another vehicle. The tightening knobs are also difficult to turn and tighten. Hex bolt might be a better idea.
- From Driving Force Pro to G25!! Wow, what a difference.
     By A1XY4E5J66D7HT on 2008-05-11
This G25 is simply AMAZING. It receives 5 star votes for every category except value. This wheel's build quality is superb except the shifter like everyone has mentioned. This received a 4 star for value because come on.... $299msrp $220ish on every site? This is sooooo expensive.
I upgraded from a Driving Force Pro,which I got for $70 so upgrading to something that was 3x as expensive took a long "sit on it" time. I have wanted this wheel since it was first introduced and then after 2 years of "sitting on it" I finally bought it. Driving racing sims with the clutch adds a whole new level of fun. The DFP was good, probably the best before the G25 came along. Too bad the DFP had plastic pedals that don't give you a lot of resistance, a force feed back motors that gives you a lot of noise.
The G25 has amazing feel to it. The leather itself is worth some money in my book. Both the wheel and the gear shfiter are leather wrapped! The paddle shifters are aluminum that gives it a better feel than the DFP's buttons. When you shift with the g25 paddle shifter, it feels more smooth and sturdy.
The best part about the G25 is the pedals. They have amazing quality and feel to it. The pedals are also aluminum so they definitely feels better. They have little balls on them just like real pedals in my car. The best part is, the difference in resistance among the three pedals sealed the deal for me. The Gas pedal is sort of loose, you can lightly stomp on it and make it go all the way to the ground. The clutch is heavier than the gas pedal but the length is the same. In my car, the clutch goes far down!!! The brake is the party piece!! It has such strong resistance that compared to the DFP, it is so much easier to control. Example: driving Laguna Seca in GTR2 approaching the corkscrew, in the DFP, I'd brake hard but I always have to pull my foot back so I don't lock up the wheels. In the G25, with the resistance, I just have to push down with a certain but firm force, then push down even further for that last little bit of braking power.
I know a reviewer had said "clutch doesn't seem to do anything." Well in my games, the clutch does do something and it's important.
In GTR2, you can enable the clutch but it'll still let you shift it into gears if you don't clutch in. The problem is when you're down shifting while in clutch mode. When you downshift without clutching in, you wheels are going to lock and make you spin out, probably not what you want on the Nurburing. Secondly, if you can heel-toe for downshifting, it makes the transition so much smoother. Also if you are not moving and in gear without clutching in(obvious for those of us who drive a manual), it's going to stall! Of course if you don't turn clutch mode on, the computer game would do that for you and then you might as well just buy a Driving force pro.
In Test Drive Unlimited, clutching is absolutely essential. If you drive a manual in that game, and not clutch when you shift up or down, you're not going to get in gear then! Also if you don't work on your footwork you're going to stall the car when driving from a stop. For some unfortunate reason you spin out and don't clutch in, your car's going to stall too. This stuff makes it so fun for me!
Highly recommend this if you have $220ish to burn. (sell your GT4, sell your DFP, sell a couple of lemonades...)
Games I play: GTR2, Richard Burns Rally(with RSRBR08), Test Drive Unlimited, and Live For Speed.
Pros: the feel is everything!!!!
Leather wrapped wheel and shift knob
Brake and Clutch pedals resistance
Paddle shifters
900 degrees
PC compatible!!!! PS2 and PS3 too but I dont own them
Gear box can be a H-shifter with 6 speed + Reverse OR set it to sequential!!!! Up to you!!!
Cons:
Price - slightly more than what I could afford but I'm skipping lunches to afford this
Shifter is flimsy - Didn't go into this too much in the review but shifter isn't like a real car. You put very little effort in moving the shifter. Too much and you could break it.
Honestly this is the best steering wheel I've ever played with.
DFP is good, like climbing and winning king of the hill. But with the G25, it's like climbing a mountain! Yep, that much difference!
- Review Edited... Not really Vista Compatible - Shifter problems...
     By A35Z12H2G089VU on 2006-10-12
I must knock it down to 3 starts now...
The shifter does not center correctly in sequential mode. Been through two of them. Many, many others reporting the same issues. Throw forward to engage is much longer than throw rearward, and sometimes it never disengages rearward engagement, causing you to miss shifts and run off the track.
The software is NOT fully Vista compatible. The profiler is pretty well busted at this point.
I'm not sure how they can use the "Vista Compatible" label, and not have software available.
Same goes for the G15 Keyboard. Says it's "Vista Compatible", but the software does not work.
Neither has Vista downloads available as of this writing.

I placed my order on October 5th and for several days now it says 'the item is shipping soon' which normally means it's being packaged but it hasn't actually been shipped. I haven't called Amazon yet but might do so today to find out what's going on. I want this wheel so bad.
- games do not impliment the "clutch" pedal feature great for Hard truck series though(unlike all others)
     By A1N2D7LLBAY25B on 2006-10-28
Supposedly someone listened at the Logi office of the NASCAR MOMO discontinuation for a cheeze model of nearly equal price. That does not excuse this exorbiance. The clutch pedal is not implimented in games and until it is you are paying for a dead hand(or foot). This wheel and the transmission (hump) style gearshift is quite cool and gee whiz is the first re-action, the console buttons are only useful, again if the game doesn't back out of it. Hard Truck series backs out of any digit button or other past # 10 with in a few minutes play time as it is not designed that way and can cause software corruptions. One would usually need this for race car games, but it can be used in other driver games making it more diverse and no need to buy a separate unit for compatiblity probs. However. in as and most games do not even use more than six or eight buttons or macros at a time, the extra buttons are redundant gimiks. The styl'n Corvette style trans-hump shifter with the console buttons is nice to look at (stick a virtual transmission hump of carpeted cardboard on the ground under it for realistic effect) and the gear can shift better than a rudder(better used as a turn signal) other than that, either go down on price or give us key-to-button config in games that do not support it. Heel-toe shift is simply a way of saying shift with the clutch, how lameo is that?

As a simracer I must say... These is no other wheel after the G25. The H-shifter and the metal paddles are simply perfect. The pedals are heavy and have different intensities (eg. the brake is harder than the throttle). Perhaps I could do with more buttons on the wheel, but everything else is perfect. You can even disasemble it to mount it on a custom cockpit.

- Best gaming wheel ever
     By A36G0A7R6A2WFE on 2007-05-08
Ever since I got this wheel in early January (it is now May), I can't stop playing GTR2. It is really a joy to use. Thanks to the 3 pedal setup, I now know how to heel-and-toe like a pro. The pedals are pretty realistically weighted; the brake pedal is the hardest to press, the clutch second hardest, and the throttle feels like - a throttle. The wheel feedback is so strong that my shoulders can actually get sore. The only downside is when the shifter is in the conventional "H" pattern mode, shifter feedback is totally unrealistic. It is virtually impossible to antipate if a shift will land in the 1st, 3rd, or 5th gate, or similarly in the 2nd, 4th, or 6th gate unless you shift slowly and deliberately. But such slow shifting is uncompetitive. Fortunately, sequential shift mode works very well, and staying with realism, corresponds to that fact that most GT's have sequential shifting anyway.
If you can afford the bucks, there is no better gaming wheel.
- Very, very good wheel.
     By A24DZVWMBEHQ04 on 2007-05-13
This is a VERY good wheel. It took me a while to get it to work with Windows Vista, but there is a trick to that. When it gets to the part in the software where it detects the device, unplug it for a few seconds, then plug it back in. If that doesn't work, then try leaving it unplugged until that process has started. About the wheel, everything about it is great. The Force Feedback is very strong, yet quiet, and the 900 degree rotation works well. The pedals all have fairly realistic tension and it even has a clutch and H-shifter. Overall, this is probably the best consumer wheel out there, and even rivals some of the high-end arcade ones. It is expensive, but it is very worth it. BTW: Live for Speed and GTR 2 both work great with the clutch and shifter!
- The best entry level high end wheel on the market.
     By A361PSXEZLCVUA on 2008-03-01
The G25 is much more precise than the DFP. It is smoother and quieter. The bumps on Daytona (GT5P-Japan) come to life, even the washboard entering turn 1 when you hit it just right. Racing with the G25 is no longer a "tug-of-war" as it is with the DFP. The pedals feel rock solid and surely can handle whatever you dish out. Having large paddle shifter allows you to make use of the thumb rest, unlike other wheels on the market. Having a separate shifter allows you to place it wherever you want.
Mounting the G25 to a Playseat Evolution is the ultimate set up, this side of a fully mechanical motorized cockpit. Mounting the shifter to the shifter add-on with for Playseat will give you a sense of being in a real race car. Which leads to a more immersive racing experience.
Amazon's price combined with 24 hour shipping for $4 is, by far, the best overall deal on the internet, this side of Black Friday sales. There is even an online store trying to sell an open box unit for $249 with no warranty!
I'm glad I'm a Gran Turismo die hard and I'm so appreciative that Playstation is not playing any sort of proprietary games with peripherals like "the other console" owned by Mr. Money Bags.
The G25 coupled with a Playseat Evolution is a must buy if you are looking for a realistic racing experience.
See you on the track...
