Great, even for non-gamers! By A1CEYXTRSSWVSC on 2007-05-20
Caveat: I am not a gamer. I bought this keyboard on a quest for something better than the mediocre, mushy-feeling, gimmicky keyboards that have lots of features but which fall short on the fundamental purpose of keyboard -- typing.
The first thing you notice about this keyboard is that it is big. Really big. It measures 21.5" from side to side. I was so concerned about this keyboard taking over my limited desk space that I almost put it back in the shipping carton unopened. That would have been a mistake -- this is a fabulous keyboard, especially for those of us who grew up on the original IBM PC/XT, and AT keyboards.
No, it doesn't have the clicky sound of the original IBM boards, but the layout is nearly perfect and the feel is excellent.
I had been using a Logitech MX3000 keyboard, which met an untimely death by coffee. I was happy enough with the MX3000, and I almost bought a 3200 to replace it. But I didn't really need a cordless keyboard, and I never really cared for the mouse that comes with the Logitech 3xxx cordless desktop sets. Now that I have them side-by-side, there is no comparison. The G11 feels solid without being stiff; the MX3000 feels mushy and imprecise. The F-keys on the G11 are full-sized and are located where my fingers think they ought to be!
The provided keyboard profiler software is unobtrusive and easy to install. I have found the "G" keys handy for storing passwords, my e-mail signature, and other short snippets of text. The backlighting feature is more useful than I imagined. I don't miss the extra buttons on my MX3000; the G11's volume control and media buttons cover about 99% of my needs. I would have liked a standby button, but I can understand why you wouldn't want one on a gaming keyboard.
$69 is a lot of $$$ for a keyboard. But if you spend most of your days typing, it is money well spent!
Awesome Keyboard By A1MQ4J8JKQ6PQ0 on 2006-11-26
I have owned MANY keyboards, I usually stick with a design and only buy that kind once I get used to it. This keyboard was recommended because of the ability to add Macros, Gamming setups for those of you who play games (WOW). It's lighted, the keys are perfectly spread apart so I am not hitting the wrong keys at the wrong time. It has a lighted display, so I can see right on the screen what the volume is, Time, etc. It also has two USB ports very easy to reach at the back of the keyboard, which is VERY convenient. I had to write, anyone questioning buying this keyboard should have reasurrance that this keyboard rocks!! Even if you don't play games, it's still very nice to have the lighted keys (typing in the dark) :)
Hope this helps.
Mixed feelings By A3PUSNZ68S0IUK on 2007-08-31
My favourite brand but not my favourite product. Don't get me wrong, i like it alot but... i was expecting more. i almost gave it a 4 because it is Logitech but they weren't as impressive as usual with the G11. Let me start with what i like. The backlit keys are to die for...especially with the option to turn it off if you want the room completely dark to watch a DVD or something. The 2 'extra' USB ports it gives seem kool as well but i haven't gotten around to using them since my DELL UltraSharp 2007WFP 20.1-inch Widescreen Flat Panel LCD Monitor with Height Adjustable Stand provides 4 USB for the price of 1. It aloso looks really good and the media keys come in handy.
Now for the not so great. The keys are not clicky at all. i preferred the feel of the Logitech Media Keyboard Elite- Black ( 967559-0403 )that i owned once. Although it is a gaming keybaord i do type so Logitech needs to take that into consideration. Maybe they can develop adjustable "clicky-ness" in a keyboard to satisfy the various tastes. Next up is the volume knob at the top. On numerous occasions my finger is just going around in circles and the wheel aint spinning. What's up with that? It seems the surface is a little too smooth...more grip Logitech..more grip. The G-keys...hmmm. i can't really make a honest review on those because i haven't quite used them yet. I read the reviews and realised they were not suitable for first person shooter games...which i mostly play, but i bought it anyway. i tried configuring them to avoid the WASD keys and the surrounding ones to use with FARCRY but nope. The G-keys are closer together than i expected and discerning each one may take a while. there is also a little switch that turns on or off "game mode" but what it really does is disable the windows-logo key to prevent you from accidentally jumping to windows in the middle of a game. That was very useful..i keep it on.
This score of 3 might have been a 4 if i did not unwrap this keyboard the same time i unwrapped my 'lion' the Logitech NEW G5 Laser Mouse which over-shadowed everything around it. Buy or not to buy? I would buy it again.
Covers every base really well - one ergonomic shortcoming By A2RQLJLKMJYVSE on 2007-06-28
The keyboard covers all the bases from game keys, favorite keys, macros, media - you name it. Everything works flawlessly and as per design. Easy to use interface.
The only short coming, at least for me, is that the underneath adjuster legs that allow its far size to raise up are WAY too small. Raises it only a tiny amount. Almost useless and a suprising thing for them to gloss over. I need a keyboard to be angled more downward toward me and these lifter legs are only about 1/2" - if that.
Also, this is not a shortcoming, just an FYI. It took my brain a while to adjust to the extra 4 inches of keys on the far left side of the keyboard. Over years, your brain gets used to where keys are relative to the end of the keyboard and my fingers keep gravitating toward the far end of the keyboard and mistyping. Its kinda hard to describe, you will see ;^)
But overall, this is slick, sleek and well made!
Windows Great but for Macs it sucks By A2H961ZP4IYSZO on 2007-10-25
What the package doesn't tell you is that this is a product solely intended for Windows. While the keyboard, of course, works on a Mac, none of the special "G" keys do, and it cannot perform many basic Mac functions, like ejecting a CD. For Windows ***** but for Mac *

     By A35IVKX8JITVB5 on 2008-03-04
I purchased this because I wanted to have something that could help me write and use the keyboard successfully at night without light on and keeping others awake. I am a hunt and peck not a real typer anymore. The trade off for visibility at night and day time is a trade off. You give up your ability to see the keys in regular light by two thirds to gain sight in dark by 1/2. granted it works well, though I Have not tried all features yet. Its size isn't all that much bigger than some other modern keyboards I have used. I have already hit the caps lock a few times while hitting "a" though.
The very least they could have done was made and outline in white paint of the letter around the clear part then you could see the letter better. For typers this should present no problem but again if real typers feel the keys why do they need it lit up anyway? I will try it for a while but may return it. Right now I have to have the backlight on all the time and that is not what I wanted when I bought this. Right now I have a headache from using it in regular light.
- Great Keyboard
     By A1D3CJ4G7CN402 on 2007-02-17
I was sick and tired of using a wireless keyboard that cuts out in the middle of gaming or typing so I purchased this thing... best keyboard I have ever owned.
- Great keyboard even if you don't game !!!!
     By A138XTMDX2EYJ9 on 2007-09-20
This keyboard has a great feel to it. The keys really feel like the old IBM keyboards back in the good old days. The lighting on it feels really good, it is not hard on the eyes, and has the nice option to turn it off during the day.
From a gamer view the keyboard works almost flawless, the profiler software is really easy to use and has worked with almost every game I have unless it's a really old one or a bad port from a console.
The media controls are really good and since they light up you can use your media player in the dark.
My only complain is that the USB ports on this device are not USB 2.0 so this limits the type of objects you can connect, even my Kingston Flash memory doesn't work as good as it should, otherwise this will get a 5 stars.
The keyboard is really large so if you have a small desk or don't have much space on yours I wouldn't recommend it.
- Very good, very flexible keyboard.
     By A26Y3GDR2X0V6V on 2008-02-05
Great keyboard. I could do without the backlighting (and the LEDs on the key surface make the keys feel slightly awkward at times depending on where your fingers touch them). The keys are where you expect them to be for the most part, though I have stumbled a couple of times and mistaken the F1 key for the F5 key and it's very usable.
The reason you buy the keyboard isn't for the backlighting, though - it's all about the 18 programmable keys on the left side of the keyboard. Very convenient placement, good key separation, and solid software behind the programmable keys makes it a very good purchase, despite the high price.
I knew about the 18 keys when I ordered it. What I didn't know about was the M1, M2, and M3 buttons above them. What these do is allow you to move between pages of hotkeys, effectively tripling the # of programmable keys to 54.
The Memory record button is very useful too - it's intuitive to use (for me at least) and automatically associates your keymappings with the program you're using so I can have one set of 54 bindings for Visual Studio, one for Firefox, one for Team Fortress and not need to tell the keyboard which set I want to be currently using (though I can force it to use one set if I really wanted it to).
The import / export feature is nice and Logitech was kind enough to store the key binding files in XML format so they can be easily manipulated.
Very good keyboard. The only downsides of it are the backlit keys which are excessive and feel a little funny, the centered placement of the media wheel (it'd be more usable if it was above the F3 key and nearer to where my non-mouse hand usually is). The software could be slightly improved to allow me to have certain keys stay the same on different pages while letting others change (it'd speed up configuration, not introduce new functionality). I can't gripe about the width, since the key size on the 18 programmable keys is great and the spacing is perfect.
- nice keyboard
     By A1X2LENOF84LCQ on 2007-09-24
This keyboard lights very evenly and makes the letters very easy to see in dim light. The keyboard letters seem to be too close together I think. I find it difficult to get used to typing with this. I would have preferred a non gaming keyboard like this with the typing kyes better placed, but overall it is very good and functional.
- The best backlit keyboard so far!
     By A39B4UNHYVSAYE on 2007-01-09
This keyboard in my opinion is by far the best backlit keyboard I have found and used. Other KB's light everything but this only lights the actual letters which makes it easier to see in the dark. I really don't look at the keyboard much when typing but when I'm playing games or working on music etc., I can see what I'm doin in the dark with no issues.
The volume dial and other shortcut keys make things very simple and if I had to find one thing I don't like in the few months I've used this item, it would be the tabs that tilt the KB up are not high enough. However, this is a minor issue that maybe logitech can resolve in later models. I say buy it!! :)
- Great Keyboard
     By A1P2K8B40670J3 on 2007-03-12
I have had this keyboard for over a year now and first off have to say that I do love it. I am an avid gamer but I am also a writer so I type * a lot *. That being said, I am also female and have longish nails. Within about 3 months the keys had no letters left on them because of the letters being scratched off. I also agree with the other user about the volume control being very extreme and I do not use it either. Those are my only complaints about this keyboard, other than that I love it and would recommend it to anyone. Gamers will also love being able to use it with Vent and having the LCD showing who is talking.
- has keys you can press, and yes, they are alight
     By A1C0SOX7DPXY65 on 2007-05-13
Nice keyboard..... could have more of a riser to give it more of an angle, it's almost flat even with the little feet in the back.
Nicer and cheaper than the g15 that has the nearly useless lcd screen on it. VERY few games supports showing anything on the screen, and even the ones that do, who the eff cares?? If your gaming, your looking at your monitor screen, who has time to look at a screen on your keyboard that at most shows the same stats on your monitor??
- Types well, but the backlight isn't that bright.
     By A2HKV4YE1YTNQP on 2008-01-04
I agree with the gushing review of how well this keyboard types. Compared to the crappy Dell keyboard that came with my PC, this keyboard is a dream. Haven't found the G keys as useful as I thought. By the time I remember what they were setup to do, I could have just done it my self.
Pros:
* The keys have a nice tactile response.
* The keys are positioned where the "ought" to be, not half-sized or squished together.
* The volume control and mute button work all the time. Very handy if you're on YouTube and the audio is suddenly very annoying (or offensive).
* A convenient switch disables the Windows "Start" key, preventing you from accidentally switching out of a game in a moment of trigger happy panic.
* Two USB ports, handy for plugging in your mouse and game controller.
Cons:
* The backlight is a joke unless you are in a really dark room. It's like there is a single LED behind the entire keyboard. It is like Logitech has never seen the PowerBook keyboard backlight. I expected the lighting to be bright enough to be seen in a normal room, so I could keep the overhead light off. The only keys that really benefit from the lighting are the media control buttons.
* The media control buttons don't work with iTunes unless iTunes is the current application. Why? My crappy Dell keyboard has similar play/pause/skip/back buttons, and they work iTunes all the time, with no software setup. In fact, out of the box, I was able to press Play on my Dell Keyboard, and iTunes opened up and started playing. Why can the Dell keyboard control iTunes out of the box, but the G11 can only control iTunes if you load the G11 software and have iTunes active. The whole point of have media keys is to control audio playback without having to switch out of your current application.
* Mac Users: DON'T buy this keyboard. No Eject Button, and the G keys just waste space.
- Nice idea, but poor construction
     By AJ86NMM55CZCK on 2008-02-24
The layout of the keyboard is great, the LCD panel is wonderfully useful, and the extra programmable keys are awesome.
However, some construction flaws make this keyboard pretty disappointing. The keys
do not have uniform tactile response. Some keys jam or stick unless you depress them perfectly vertically. The backlight has 2 brightness settings, both of which are far too dim to be useful. And the fold-out legs on the bottom of the keyboard are flimsy and too short. If you want your keyboard to be at an angle, you have to prop it up on a book or something.
A much better choice is the Saitek Eclipse II, although it doesnt have the extra programmable keys or the LCD.
- Excellent gaming and general keyboard
     By A7Y5XOAIXWHL7 on 2008-05-17
Logitech products are never mediocre. They're either awful or great. The G11, fortunately, falls on the "great" side.
If you're in the market for a nice keyboard (whether you're a gamer, a heavy computer user, or someone who enjoys aesthetic and tactile perfection, the G11 is a sound investment.
I bought the G11 after deciding that I wanted a really well made, wired, back-lit keyboard. There are far to many cheapo keyboards, stocked with useless media buttons and silly ergonomic designs. I decided, as I'm a heavy gamer, that a gaming keyboard was the way to go. The nice thing about computers is that, usually, what's designed for a gamer works REALLY well for any other user.
The G11 is no exception.
The back-lighting displays very nicely, whether seen straight on or at an angle. I have NO trouble with the brightness, and the keys don't look at all blurry. The blue lighting is quite sleek looking, and serves its purpose really well.
The G keys (G1-G18), in coordination with the M1-M3 keys give you 54 macro keys. This is a feature I didn't think I would use, but have grown to love. I'm able to do everything from saving username and password combos (thus able to them inserted at the click of a button), to binding spell set-ups and weapon choices (Oblivion, CS:S, etc.). I also have most of my oft-used programs set to a key, so all I have to do is a hit a button to load my favorite game, firefox, etc.
The media keys work for me, although I almost never use them. Same goes for most of the top row of keys. I keep the keyboard in "gaming mode", thus preventing the Windows key from working, and I only adjust the back-lighting when watching a movie. I've found the ability to record macros to be very useful.
The action on these keys is very satisfying. Typing on it feels great. It's immediately apparent that this is a quality keyboard. Not too clicky, not mushy or overly soft, the G11 hits the sweet spot. It's styled as a desktop keyboard, rather than a laptop (full layout, full sized keys with full action). I prefer this, as it gives a more tactile and concrete response.
The keyboard fits well on my desk. It doesn't seem overly large, but it may be tight on some setups. The included wrist-rest is actually useful ( I initially didn't plan on using it).
Downsides? The software isn't the best in the world. It takes a little playing around to figure it out, as it's not entirely intuitive. Also, the USB hubs should be 2.0, but they're not. I never use them as a result, but I'm not upset about this. Finally, when resting flat, the keys seem to face back away from the typer. In order to even this out, you have to use the little feet on the bottom/back of the keyboard. They are very short, and if you like your keyboard at an incline facing you, you will be disappointed. Other than that, I have NO complaints with this keyboard. It's truly amazing and well worth the price.
Absolutely grab one if you're in the market for a gaming keyboard, a back-lit keyboard, a programmable keyboard, or just a nice keyboard in general.
- Pretty good keyboard with only a few minor issues
     By A2T6PVIQBIUEVB on 2008-05-27
I purchased this keyboard about a month ago because I was interested in the macro keys and how useful they'd be for gaming. But before I get to that, let me give a few statements about the keyboard in general.
1. As many reviewers have said already, this keyboard is fairly large. However, I have plenty of desk space, so that's not an issue to me.
2. The backlit keys are very nice for those who sometimes type in the dark. Not necessary if you're just touch-typing a letter, but quite useful if you're playing games and need to hit a particular key quickly. The lighting seems fairly even across the board with only a few minor areas that seem a bit darker. There are two levels of light (as well as "off") and I wish that the second level were brighter. The difference between "low" and "high" is not much at all.
3. I have not yet used the media keys, so can't comment there.
4. Tactile feedback is pretty good. Now that I'm used to the key placement (it's shifted over a tad from my old keyboard), I find it pleasant to type on. Only issue here is I don't like the placement of the Esc key - It's shifted over about 1 cm from my old keyboard I have yet to adjust...but that's just me.
5. Two USB ports on the board are a nice touch, especially if your computer isn't within easy reach.
Overall, as a general keyboard, I'm very happy with the G11. It feels good and looks good.
Now, about those macro keys...
The G11 has 18 macro keys and 3 Mode keys, which basically are telling you which setup your 18 keys are on. This basically gives you a total of 54 (3x18) total macros you could set up if you wished! These 54 keys can also be separately programmed for any number of Profiles.
The G11 requires software to be running in the background so that you can set up the Profiles. The programming of keys is extremely easy and ranges from specific key clicks, to loading a given program, to entire key sequences based upon one macro key press. The example they give in the tutorial sets up a key so that when pressed will highlight all text in the document and then delete it.
The profiles are basically different setups of what a given macro key will do. You can set them up for a given game or program. Theoretically, when that program is loaded (defined in the profile setup), it should load that profile automatically. So for example, say you have a profile for Doom 3. The idea is that when you click on the Doom3 icon and load the program, the keyboard software will load the Doom3 profile and all of your macro keys that you've already programmed are ready to go. Cool in concept, but I have had trouble getting it to recognize that a given game program is loading. After the game loads, I go back out and look at the Profiler software and it often hasn't changed. Why this is, I don't know. I haven't had time to research it too far. And yes, I have made sure that my "default" isn't locked on (a feature that you can set). So what does this mean? Well, when I start a game, I have to manually load the profile. Not a big deal, but a tad annoying when the software supposedly is set up so you don't have to do this.
- Like it...mostly
     By A2241HSKHAHPGZ on 2008-09-21
Pros: Good key action; audio controls included
Cons: too dim; USB ports require self-powered items; tilt angle too shallow
For the most part, I like it, but I'm looking for a replacement. It's just too dim. Sorry Logitech, "off" does not qualify as a brightness level, and all we get is off, dim and less dim. The keys are just not bright enough unless the room is almost dark, and even then the light from the monitor make the keys hard to see. They really should have gone for a higher contrast color pairing than blue on black. The USB ports are a joke, really. I'm not sure what they mean in the description by "full speed"...is that USB1 or USB2? Just spell it out. In any case, you'll need USB items with their own power sources, since the keyboard does not have enough power to run even a small USB drive. The keyboard barely tilts - barely enough for cables to squeeze under.
With that said, I do like the key action and audio controls. It is a fairly comfortable keyboard for extended use.

This is a great keyboard with only a couple minor flaws. The hotkeys are awesome once ya get used to them however i sometimes nick one and open soemthing i didnt want to open. The media controls are a good idea but poorly executed. The volume is not a smooth change, instead it actually is about 20 different volumes, so as you turn it up there are sharp changes in the sound. Also the best sounds i have found are generally in between the ones you can select so i end up using my volume control on my head phones rather than the keyboard. the depth of the keyboard is pretty deep too, if i have it at an angle, the corner hangs off of my desk.
- Backlight is key!
     By A3F6S51DD4M113 on 2007-05-13
The quick and dirty: I had to buy a new keyboard when I dumped a full glass of wine on my old one. This one is great. Backlight rocks. The macro keys are all but useless. The keyboard is a bit thick so your fingers will take a bit to get used to it. The thing is a bit wide, too. The LCD version is relatively useless for gaming since you have to take your eyes off the screen to look at it, though there's a subculture that codes all sorts of things for it. I highly recommend this keyboard.
- Outstanding product for game players or power users
     By A3D54GK2FVEZB5 on 2007-07-27
I use this keyboard for playing WOW online. It's very easy to assign keystroke combos or macros to the programmable keys on the fly... I find this a very useful keyboard. I also like the blue LED back lighting for the keys. This feature makes it easy to see the keys in dim lighting.
- G11 vs New G15 keyboard
     By A1ZZG79ZNQFF4A on 2008-01-22
I'm a serious gaming fool and was dismayed to see the New G15 board had reduced the number of programable keys from 18 to 6 as opposed to the "old" G15 The programable keys are the heart of the board, able to record macros as well as any key action. I am happy again to see that the G11 is the "old" G15, with all 18 keys intact. To me, the New G15 only offers eye candy at the cost of the best advantage the G11 ( and the Old G15) have, the number of keys to program. Apparently Logitech saw the error of it's ways and is keeping the old board alive under a new name. My guess is that the New G15 will fade away and the G11 will live on.
- keyboard started glitching within 8 months
     By A2BLARQZBMALQW on 2008-05-02
My G15 keyboard started glitching within 8 months of purchase, my Enter, K, and I keys were the 1st to go, then keys started double typing and when I contacted Logitech's customer support they had me hook it up to a 2nd pc without there software. I hauled the keyboard
into work and hook it up (what a pain!)and yup the keyboard is junk.
Logitech's customer support had me fill out a bunch of info but I didn't have my receipt so I'm out my 80$, I went back to my old keyboard, its 10 years old and still works perfectly!
Logitech should be ashamed of them selves for selling substandard products at inflated prices! No matter how many bells and whistles a keyboard has it should last longer then 8 months!
- Dependable (One Year After Review)
     By A2M0MXUUWXIEQV on 2008-08-11
I have owned this keyboard for a year now and love it to death. I have fiddled with many differant keyboards throughout the years and this is by far the best I have ever worked with. It has proven to me to be dependable and rugged as I have dragged it to lan parties, work, an even now to Afghanistan.
The first and foremost thing one should note about this keyboard is its huge size, this keyboard will consume a sizable amount of desktop real estate, and may or may not fit in many desk's keyboard trays. But with its cable management, which are little groves under the keyboard you are able to hide many wires such as speakers and mouse to make a more presentable desktop appearance.
The second thing one will notice is the plethora of programable G buttons on the left side of the keyboard, and like the rest of the keyboard they are backlit with blueish lighting that is easy on the eyes in dim light. Each key is able to be programed with the included software to perform any number of custom created macros which is pretty usefull in allot of strategy and MMO games. You also havethe ability to create on the fly macros so you don't have to leave your game to do so. With three differant sets you can program up to 54 macros that can be executed at the push of a button.
The third thing you will notice about this keyboard is the backlit LCD display that in its simplest form acts as a clock, cpu monitor, and email checker. But when linked with a supported game such as WoW can be so much more displaying in game stats such as health, ammo, lives, time played, ect. Coupled with the LCD is a very functional media control that includes a nicely done volume circle, pause, play, forward, backwards.
This keyboard also solves a common gaming issue which is the windows key. If pressed during gameplay the windows key can abruptly interrupt you play session by minamizing your game. However with the flick of a switch the G11 transforms it's self into game mode which disables this key temporarily to prevent minimization.
I have used this keyboard daily for about a year now, and one problem that is noted with backlit keyboards is the buttons eventually fade and wear iut ti the point where you can no longer see the keys. I have not had this issue with this board as all my keys remain visable and useable.
All in all if you can afford the desktop space this keyboard consumes and require an enormous amount of programable keys this is the keyboard for you. However if you would prefere a small keyboard with less programable keys check out the Logitech G15 or a keyboard from Razer.
- Awesome for Windows Vista, not so awesome for Macintosh.

I love using this keyboard on my windows machines. It is easy to set up and is very intuitive in its game settings. The added keys allow for some neat macros to be used in World of Warcraft. These allow for added pwnage against people with standard keyboards.
I tried using this on my Mac Pro OSX 10.5.x. It did function as any normal keyboard but the extra keys didn't seem to do too well. I was able to tweak it a bit but they were never as good as when I was using it in Windows Vista.
All in all a wonderful piece of kit for your Windows based machine.

This is a great keyboard. I don't worry about the gaming macro aspect so much, but the lighted keys are wonderful. We keep the office light low at home while gaming, and when my hands get out of position I can easily glance to see where to reposition.
- It's nice, I like

My only bone with this keyboard is the price. I do like the backlighting of the keyboard cause most of my time on the computer is at night. The macro capabilities are interesting, although I haven't found a use for them yet.
