  • "Jump" Best Maxi-Single of 'Confessions' Era

    By A3PMEJAYKF3VUC on 2006-11-08
Out of all the singles released during Madonna's "Confessions on a Dance Floor" era, I feel "Jump" is by far the best. The song itself is Madonna at her best; a sort of inspirational, pop pick-me-up inspiring people to not allow the pressures and trials of life get you down and go for what you want and never to "look back".

Single wise, this is the first maxi-single in ages to actually include an extended mix. Not only is the extended version of "Jump" true to the original but it adds in great vocal effects at the start and ending to really give the song an epic-dance feel to it. The Jacques Lu Cont mix of Jump removes the upbeat dance feel of the song and adds in a more mysterious, darker tone that actually gives the song new life. The Axwell mix and the Mixshapes are both pretty good as well; very club-ready and unlike some of the past singles, they actually make good use of the vocals and don't completely hack away at the original song and the message.

What also makes "Jump" stand out from the other releases is the unreleased song from 'Confessions' titled "History." To me, it's one of Madonna best b-sides and is album worthy. Heavy-dance beat with a plea for people to take a look at the world we live in and to actually do something to make it better. This, to me, is Madonna at her best; not only does she bring a nice dance beat with great production and a nice show of her vocals, but she also has lyrics that actually SAY something and have meaning.

This is probably the last single from "Confessions" but wow, this is a way to close out another album era. This is a must own and draws strength from the variety and great production each mix was given. While the "Hung Up" and "Get Together" singles both seemed to be a bit repetitive and not do the album-version of the songs justice, this single actually does a great job of offering listeners the song as it was on the album and different interpretations; from a darker, moodier, version as captured by Jacques Lu Cont to the techno-club ready tracks made by Axwell and Mixshapes. Plus, as an added bonus you have the epic-feel Extended mix and the unreleased, remixed version of 'History'. BUY this single, you won't be dissapointed. Are you ready to jump?

  • Don't believe the hype

    By A3P3W761AJQL3H on 2006-11-13
Every time La Ciccone releases something, it's not long before her fans start chirping about her "doing it again" or "the best yet". This is rarely the case and "Jump" is no exception.

The single edit of this song takes out the spoken bits of the song which in this reviewer's opinion are the most important as they set the stage for the tone of the song as well as cutting out the nice "West End Girls"-esque intro. Ditto for the extended version - this is just a poorly-drawn out version of the song with some choppy editing, not the quirky, fun 'extended mixes' of yore.

The Jacque Lu Cont mix (suprise! Another mix by Jacque Lu Cont aka Stuart Price aka Paper Faces aka Man With Guitar aka....) is ok but no different than the other 10,000 identically structured remixes he has done. The Axwell remix stinks of mid-90s house - the sort of thing you may have found on the "Bedtime Stories" singles, not something worthy of 2006. Ditto for the Junior Sanchez mix - also dated, and also failing to bring the spirit of the original song into the remix.

The final track, "History" is for sure the anti-climax of this record. The track has not only one of the most annoying intros ever, but hideous lyrics "I've looked all around the world/Nobody has it better than we do". The "American Life" album would've blushed at lyrics that self-serving. It is also worth mentioning that the song sounds suspiciously like the Paper Faces (Stuart Price) remix of Scissor Sister's 'Filthy Gorgeous'.

    Avoid this disappointing single.

  • Best of the Four Singles from Confessions

    By A2BAIBDBM1TP8P on 2006-12-04
I've read a lot of reviews of Madonna's latest singles from Confessions on a Dance Floor. While I do agree that they are not as good as past maxi singles, I don't think they're as bad as all these people make them out to be. You know when you buy mixes like this you always take a risk because usually there is only a couple of good ones and the b-side is an added bonus. I was very dissapointed in the Hung Up single, the Sorry single had good points but was way worth the price just for the remix of "Let It Will Be"-which I had just discovered seeing the concert on TV two weeks ago! I loved it! Get Together was an improvement over Sorry, just because I think the song is slower and it's nice to hear remixes of it. Jump, however is good from start to finish. Nothing brilliant, but worth getting, if only for the unreleased song "History". If you're a big Madonna fan, you'll enjoy the b-side a lot, but I don't think casual fans would really go for it. It's in the same vein as "Get Together", only more upbeat and longer. Very nice song. I would like to see more b-sides like this rather than all mixes on these singles. I felt like "Fighting Spirit" should be on one of these releases rather than on the limited edition of the album. Don't always decide on your purchases based on these reviews. If you're a Madonna fanatic, get them all. If you're not, then just get "Jump". It seems to be the best.

  • Improvement Over Last Single - Great B-Side!

    By A32207GKRIJYDI on 2006-11-16
    1. Jump [Radio Edit] - 5 Stars
One of the better radio edit releases for a Madonna track. Short and sweet, yet doesn't take away from the album version.

    2. Jump [Jacques Lu Cont Mix] - 4 Stars
It's time for Madonna to move on, enough of Stewart Price's "mixes" that basically take the album version, and bland it down just a bit. Not a bad mix, because "Jump" is such a great track to begin with - but nothing groundbreaking here.

    3. Jump [Axwell Remix] - 3 Stars
I downloaded this remix off of Limewire, and deleted it immediately. I thought for sure it was some bootleg mix - I was wrong. This isn't a horrible mix, but the entire beginning "zipper" sound has to go! It gets better towards the end, a bit more club/house sounding.

    4. Jump [Junior Sanchez's-Misshapes Mix] - 3 Stars
Probably my least favorite mix on the CD. The ending is just atrocious. But, there are some good parts to the mix.

    5. Jump [Extended Album Version] - 5 Stars
Pretty self explanitory - a great song to begin with, so extending the album version just makes it better!

    6. History - 4/5 Stars
I have to admit, the mix I downloaded on Limewire was better than the mix included on this CD - however, "History" is a great track, it kind of sounds like the "little brother/sister" to "Jump". Also, a great message behind the song - extending Madonna's view on how good we have it, and to not take things for grantite.

  • Some things should be left alone.

    By A2U3XA8QL4IPJO on 2006-11-14
I gave this single 3 stars because its only redeemed by the extended version of Jump and the track History which admittedly is'nt great but not horrible. Apparently there is single mix of History I've never heard and should have been included on this single instead of the very forgettable remixes of Jump. None of the remixes add anything to the already perfectly produced original version. The remixes take the joy and the good beat out of the original.

  • A great single.
    By A164RXBAREEUIX on 2006-12-16
Okay, Madonna has gotten really cheap when it comes to sleeve art. She used the Gap Ad photos for sleeve covers on Nothing Fails, Love Profusion imports, and the Revisited EP. The cover for Hung up was from an already existing photo in the full album, Get Together looked like a publicity shot, and Jump.. well..
But the single is far better than it's appearance.

    RADIO EDIT
I personally think making a radio edit of a song that is already less than four minutes long is pretty silly. There is nothing wrong with this track, it sounds precisely like the album version, the missing seconds are hardly noticed.
    JACQUES LU CONT MIX
I love this mix. I think Stuart's mixes have been very hit or miss. His mix of Get Together was terrible. He removed all the decent parts of the song and added some crappy bass-line. But I thought his extended version of Hung Up was by FAR the best version on it's single. THe only reason his mix of Jump isn't my favorite here is because the other mixes are equally impressive. This mix has a trance quality to it, although I think it's still too Pop to be considered a 'trance track'. He chooses to loop the line "Just Take My Hand" and "My Sisters and Me' to a steady beat with throbbing synths and it's delicious. On a dancefloor it's magic. It's also not too long, like some of the mixes from Ray Of Light.. the ones that stretched out into double digits.
    AXWELL MIX
The first mix I heard, it somehow was leaked onto the internet in August, months before it's November release. Of course whenever you downloaded something unauthorized, the track inevitably has a certain unofficial sound to it. It just didn't really impress me until I played it on my CD. It's got a great club beat. It's fun. Although my least favorite of the mixes, it's still a better than any of the mixes on Get Together.
    MISSHAPES MIX
My favorite by far. Of all the mixes, this one still thrives outside the club. An edited version is available on iTunes, but it's the full length mix (which isn't even all that long) is by far THE BETTER CHOICE. This mix is totally creative and fun. It's very pop, very danceable, enough removed from the original to sound like a brand new song. This is hands down my favorite mix from all four singles combined. No question in my mind. This mix is fabulous.
    EXTENDED VERSION
Awkward and unecessary the extended version feels amateur at best. It has a very 'lazy' feel to it. The only real difference is the opening, which is a minute or two longer and features Madonna's line "I can make it alone" overdubbed about 100 times. This goes on a good minute before the bassline comes in and the song opens. The song is still great, but when you've got a perfect album version, one wonders why this even exists. It's not like they even extended it all that far. Maybe if this track was 10 minutes, or even just 8 minutes...

  • Average Mixes
    By A1BX8J5KDOKK7P on 2007-03-11
Although I had to have this cd in my collection, it's a bit of a disappointment. The only good thing is the extended album version, the reason why it bought it in the first place. I heard better remixes by Axwell before, the same can be said about Sanchez. Too bad that [Paul Oakenfold] didn't remix this song. I liked his version of "Sorry" a lot and was hoping the same here. Or an [Above & Beyond Remix] like "Nobody Knows Me", those are both real good dance trax. Let's hope with the next single, Madonna comes to her senses and picks other people to mix the tracks.

  • "Are you ready to jump?"
    By A3NQ40KK21XL1V on 2007-03-13
This is the last single of the great Madonna's album Confessions On A Dance Floor, maybe is one of the most expected single of this collection since its video. Here you can find 5 versions of "Jump" and a new song not available in the album "History". Is really good. Are you ready to try it?

  • Big Mistake of History is not the original it's a remix
    By A2D8FQPVJ9YLWQ on 2006-11-09
I love the remixs of jump I love the extended version of jump I'm just not to happy that they made a big mistake with the song History they put a remix of that song that's not the original the original sounds better it has a better beat and it has more words to it like this for example. (if we were one then is easy said and done you can play a part make a brand new start come together and live forever)if you know she does'nt even say that on the remix of History of this single jump I know becasue I heard the remix and the orinal of the song History I can't believe warner. brods. made that big mistake I been waiting to get the song of history for months and know this happen

  • The original version of 'History' not included.
    By A268WIE7T1CRVY on 2006-11-11
While the "Jump" remixes are very good, this version of 'History' takes away from the serious message of the original version of 'History' which was only about 3 minutes but with lyrics and music that really hit hard. 'I have a dream, but dreams are not for free. We all need to change or just repeat hisotry. If we were one, well it's easier said than done. You can play a part make a brand new start. Come together live forever." The remix just dosen't cut it and dosen't even feel like the same song.

  • Good, but...
    By A1MIWY5P4X6M4 on 2007-01-13
...not up to Madonna in her prime. Its hard for anyone to sound good in the tinny world of current dance music. Between its over engineered treble and its over burden of bass, the music gets lost somewhere.

In this CD, Madonna does the best that she can with the material provided. What comes out is a CD from talented artist of non-memorable music that serves less of proof of her real artistry as it does confirmation that no one can work it like she can.

I would only recommend this for hardcore Madonna fans.

  • can't beat the original mix
    By A3OMYI2X3UYSGO on 2007-01-13
i bought this single as i like the song and thought the remixes would be good but the original album mix is the best i'm a fan of remixes but this singles remixes were a disapointment

  • ARE YOU READY TO JUMP?
    By AFN1X0UU9CJB8 on 2006-11-09
I just absolutely LOVE this maxi-single!!! I just can't get enough of "Jump" the remixes and the exclusive b-side, "History"! I just plain love this single and I can't wait to see what Madonna has in store for us fans next!

  • ARE YOU READY TO JUMP WITH THESE GREAT REMIXES ???
    By A2OOND75TN5HGR on 2006-11-09
Jump is a great song by it self but these remixes make it sound even better. Jump is in my opinion the best single, out of the other three that were release(hung up, sorry and get together) eventhough hung up will always be my favorite song of the confessions album jump doesn't stay to far behind with great lyrics and a nice beat. History is a great b-side song with a great message and a clubby feeling. The Axwell remix is the best one.. GREAT SINGLE!!!!!

  • madonna - jump
    By A1EY8WDVB988DV on 2007-01-09
My favourite song from Confessions album, and this single has more remixes on it than anything I can get locally in Australia

  • Madonna does it again!
    By AWI99KCSH659I on 2007-01-16
Along with the remixes of Jump, there's a bonus track called History. This song is not in any album of hers and it never will be. So don't miss it!

  • GREAT SONG
    By ADENGEIPGDTFJ on 2007-02-01
My favourite song from the last album.
This edition contains a non-album track. GREAT!

  • lame single
    By A2FD5X2EAZSP6Z on 2007-01-03
I don't know why this song is good. I find this song the lamest of all singles released from Confessions. Her Jump video sucked too. Madonna, you're almost 50 now. You shouldn't dye your hair bleached blond from the Express Yourself & Vogue days. And you shouldn't dress like a skater/street punk. God Madonna you are such a poser. What's next the surfer girl beach girl look. If that's you're next image reinvention you better know how to surf. I can't forget that fact that you were trying to be all cowgirl in your Music album. Did u grew up in the country or were you raised in the midwest. No. So why were you trying to be all cowgirl. One of the singers of the girl group Seduction from the late 80's was right about you your such a poser.

  • let down.
    By A2OJ49FFOYB7RP on 2007-02-02
What an amazing song, and it is my favorite on the album.
I was really looking forward to the cd single being released, and waited around 2 months for it to finally come out.
When it did come out in Australia, it only contained the radio edit, junior sanchez mix and new song history.Looks as though we only got Jump part 2 here in Australia.
I was very disappointed that the other remixes were not included, and I did not like the junoir sanchez mix at all.
I was really looking forward to hearing the Jaques Lu cont mix, as I have enjoyed his past work for Madonna, and also the extended album version.
Unfortunately neither were included on the cd single in Australia.

  • Excellent mixes
    By A2ODC22JSZHP6H on 2007-03-08
This is a must have for those of you that collect Madonnas music, not only are the mixes well done but it a comes with a unique never released song titled "History". This music single like all of Madonnas music has a good range of different sounds not just your typical remix single in where all the songs usually sound the same.

  • Better to buy to Confessions Live CD/DVD collection instead
    By A2AT05GHFWOKRU on 2007-03-23
I thought this "Jump" compilation would be a good workout CD, however, only the first and last song is really worth listening to. I like the song "Jump," but you're better off just buying the Live Confessions Tour CD or CD/DVD collection instead. They are way better! Don't waste your money on this one.

  • Get ready to Jump...
    By A1R9U3LJ9K208I on 2006-11-09
This track was one of my favorites from Confessions. Great beat and catchy lyrics. The remixes on this release are not bad. I think Junior Sanchez's Misshapes Mix is probably my favorite of the mixes. The extended album version is not bad either, staying very close to the original, only longer. I have not heard the original version of History that another reviewer mentioned, but I like the version on here. It fits in nicely with the Confessions tracks. It seems to capture the mood of that CD. If only the video for Jump was as good as the song...

  • Jump [single]
    By ATIM3PA3FPT4Z on 2007-01-11
    It's very good cd single.
It have very good radio edit, 4 mix's and History what is Madonna new song.
    I love this single!

  • Not a great JUMP in right direction!!!
    By A2CIUHV7TWVP64 on 2007-01-12
I'm big Madonna fan,but last 2 of her maxi-singles s...s!!!There is nothing going on with mixes, you can't actually wait until the end of the song,it is so dreadful!!It is a great song but I wish that she would wisely find somebody who could make a great remix...like BT,Above & Beyond,Tiesto,Armin Van Buuren.....I'm givin' a 2 stars just because I'm a long time fan and i'm collecting all hers cd's!!!

  • It's better than "get together"
    By A1H8F7PBYG6X7G on 2007-01-20
This CD single is 10x better than the "get together" one. History is awesome, the extended album version is awesome, the Jacques Lu Cont mix is the bomb. Do a bump, put the i-pod in the ears and go outside and listen...... Isn't that the point of re-mixing?
