  • quick and easy setup, works great

    By A1OLMB02JBKTSP on 2007-11-24
Well, like any product, there are those who love it and those who hate it. Our family likes this wireless G adapter. My husband bought it, and he doesn't know much at all about computers. He plugged it in and Voila! He had internet upstairs and the wireless router is downstairs. He has used it for about 9 months now with no problems and we are buying one for our son's laptop becuase the internal in his just went bye-bye. Based on our experiences with this item, I recommend this as a low cost way to get wireless on your desktop or laptop.

  • Frustrating

    By A2V61A19OH4QNE on 2007-04-06
When this product works, it works. However it will occasionally shut down and then the only way to reconnect is to shut down the whole computer. If you are in the middle of several things like working on photos, graphics and the internet, you have to shut down all those programs, restart the computer to get the internet to work and then pull up all your work again. Simply unplugging the adapter will not do it and there is no way to "repair" connection except shutting down the computer. I've had it with this adapter.

  • Better Than Desktop Antennae

    By AWPODHOB4GFWL on 2007-09-30
I had used the internal card with antennae before, but had connectivity problems with it being behind the computer. I disabled that and purchased this antennae with the cable. The lengthy cable gives me the option of moving the adapter around until I can get optimal connectivity. As far as the "Speedbooster" goes; I have no idea if it works or not. I suspect it is just a gimmick. Otherwise this is a nice product.

  • Not good

    By A3MXU3CH4BJ465 on 2007-10-30
I have the router that it's recommended by linksys, with speed booster, the speed is not very good and the signal is week and they must be like 6 meters apart, dont recommend this product, although it does the job.

  • Linksys Wireless-G USB Well Known For Bugs

    By AF2ABVJAIGNHA on 2007-01-14
I doubt that Amazon will let this review go through.

I got the Linksys compact Wireless-G USB Adapter and later found that it took away my log in screen and made it impossible to switch users. The product works fair to poor. It goes down at least once a day and then it takes a few minutes to get it going again. When it works it seems ok, but the thru put don't seem a great as they say. Simply put I am sorry I bought the product but I still am not ready to get a good one from some other company.

Please do a Google Group search and of this product and Linksys. There you will see a host of complaints about this product and many other Linksys products.

  • Good Product.recommended
    By A1U59OW6J0YXL3 on 2007-06-02
I just bought this product because my built in wireless adapter was broken and I am too lazy to bring it to be repaired. easy to install and plug-and-play.

  • Difficult to get working
    By A3CUX8G6FBO2PW on 2007-06-23
I have both the LinkSys USB54GSC and the corresponding GSC router.

Setting up the router was a pain that was only resolved by _removing_ the Linksys software and letting Windows XPSP2 handle the wireless connection (using the laptop's built-in "b" adapter).

I had also bought this, USB54GSC, adapter and gave it a try. I followed the instructions on the CD, and... it _changed_ the router's SSID and neither wireless adapter could connect! I'm a techie and have spent a couple hours this morning fiddling w/ this.

I had to connect again w/ my lan cable to change the SSID and get the passcode. Then I turned off the 54GSC Service (and set it to manual so it won't come back on) and turned back on Windows Wireless Service... and both adapters are working.

So, w/ both the router and now the adapter, I couldn't get the LinkSys software to work. For both products, there is a sticker that says to RUN THE CD FIRST. My experience has been to _not_ do this. Things are complicated enough and time is precious. These LinkSys products unnecessarily created more complication and wasted my time.

  • I'm glad I waited to review it
    By A7OR6AI51JQ1B on 2008-06-11
I initially fell in love with this thing. My computer was too petite and filled with other junk for me to put in a wireless card, but has a plethora of usb slots, so I figured this was the wireless adapter for me!

For the first three months it was pure heaven. Fast speeds, always connected, even when I forgot and left it on for days!

And then the honeymoon is over.

Now this saucy little tart will connect me to the tubes for an hour, two if I am lucky. Maybe I need a life, but REALLY what I need is to be able to play my games without the internet crapping out on me. Every other computer in the network has no problem, laptop, xbox360, pc number two.

This little tramp however wants me to REBOOT MY COMPUTER to get back on the internet.

Upon further research, the is a well known problem. The solution? Go out and get a divorce. Or, you know, a REAL wireless card.

Luckily, I waited until the honeymoon was over to write a review.
Hopefully she's not sabotaging me right now, so I can't post this.

  • Buggy software
    By A2STQ9EKFLS91X on 2007-07-18
It does work better than my Dell built in adapter but the software that comes with it is buggy. It messed up Windows XP networking.

  • defective product
    By A3ANU9SYSFPEAS on 2008-06-05
did not work in my desktop PC; tried it in my laptop to be sure and it didn't work in it either. dell support did everything possible and it stil wouldn't work

  • needs more info
    By A2M5RRUOLYRQXN on 2007-01-09
bought it for an older computer. had done research on it. specifically looked for windows 98 compatible. when product arrived, it suggested 2000 and higher. good thing I have another computer that needed wireless connection and met the necessary criteria.

  • booster needs to be rebooted
    By A1K7BHV5PKYSRY on 2007-12-18
when i first received the product, it worked like a charm. recently i have to constantly reboot or reconnect it. i dont know if it has to to with my notebook or if its the product. but oncei disconnect the adapter and reconnect it, then i can continue internet connection.

  • Decent enough
    By A4COHV970WTK6 on 2008-03-24
Does not pick up a real strong signal from my router downstairs which is also a linksys. Probably would have bought one with an antennae instead.

  • Plays well with Vista
    By ATV2F17QFJHL1 on 2008-03-28
I bought this Linksys wireless adapter to along with the Linksys wireless router. Initially, it worked like a champ then it started to get buggy after a few months of constant use. The adapter had a difficult time finding a signal and if it did, the signal was weak. I left my computer on hibernate mode but it seemed to leave the adapter still running. After turning off my computer when I wasn't using it everyday, the card seemed to go back to its happy go lucky ways!

  • Good purchase
    By A9GNAYEOJFGJO on 2008-05-07
Easy to install and no problems connecting to my home network. Speed is a little slow and rarely gets above 36kbps compared to the 56kbps advertised. Fine for email and internet surfing but not so good for online gaming.

  • Warranty Service from Linksys is Horrible!
    By A2A8KOIXK0JS5S on 2008-06-09
I spent over an hour troubleshooting it before they finally told me it was probably bad, even after I told them I used it on three separate computers! I am waiting for over three weeks now and the replacement is still on backorder! They refuse to send a new one. Tech support is difficult to understand because it is in a foreign country. Just a warning if yours breaks while under warranty!
Just an update (06/26/08), I got a replacement one that lasted all of two weeks after waiting for almost a month! Here we go RMA all over again!

  • WUSB54GSC was underwhelming
    By A1JLFSLWVXCB2K on 2008-06-30
THis device did not work well at all--much worse than the built in wi-fi that came with my dell

  • Linksys WUSB54GSC wireless adapter
    By AJXPVOKHKI1GI on 2008-08-12
I am very pleased with this product and would recommend it to others. Just remember that at one point in the software installation the computer using the wireless network needs to be physically connected to the wireless router via an ethernet cable. After that, you just disconnect it from the wireless router, set it up wherever you want, and have at it.

  • not worth my time
    By A1TPG669VPQ3RV on 2008-08-05
I have a late 2002 Dell Optiplex desktop running Windows XP Pro SP3. I was using a Linksys USB wifi adapter, but ever since I've had it I've had my connection fail, sometimes as often as every 10 minutes or so. I decided to try something new, and since this had the highest score of the ones at the store, I gave it a go.

It wasn't worth it. After installing the software, and plugging in the adapter, the software program told me I was connected, but Windows said it had no connectivity. Tried repairing the connection, restarting, uninstalling and reinstalling. Same issue. Tried to use Windows Hardware Wizard to install drivers and got a warning that this hardware hadn't passed Windows flag testing. Interesting. Maybe its SP3, maybe my desktop is just too old, but either way I had no luck with this product.

  • bought 2 one works the other doesn't
    By A3GMRYV7VAYK5Q on 2008-09-14
We bought one of these for a Sony Viao desktop that we were moving into the living room and one for a Sony laptop because it's wireless card stopped functioning. For the desktop, we had a few minor difficulties. The signal was so low that once I tried removing it from the rear of the PC to put in the front it wouldn't recognize it again. I had to uninstall the software and re-install to get it to work. No biggie, and it was a bit glitchy, but once it was set up it worked great. For the laptop...it has driven my husband to the brink of insanity. It won't recognize the unit, he tries to uninstall the software and it locks up and then he has to manually go in an find and delete the files. After no less than 5 tries he still can't get it to work, much less recognize the wireless network that is feet away. He ended up just giving up and buying CAT wire to plug directly into the modem, which of course defeats the purpose of wireless mobility, but at least he isn't packing his bags for the funny farm! So one worked great in the end, with some work, and the other didn't work no matter what. I installed the the working one and he wouldn't let me help with his, so maybe it is user error. So, all in all, if you get it installed and recognized right away, it is a great product. If you don't it will make you want to smash it with a hammer. So this may not be the best review, but it is honest.

  • Great wireless adapter
    By A3T3QQXZ65EIQX on 2008-09-15
This adapter is easy to use and provides fast, immediate access to our wireless router for my HP desktop. It is plug and play after the driver is installed.

  • VISTA beware--Not 32-bit compatible!
    By A22H9I1V7797YR on 2008-10-21
My low rating is due to the false information on the web page, namely the statement that "This product is Certified for Windows Vista." IT IS NOT certified for 64 bit VISTA systems. Pay attention to 32 bit vs 64 bit systems! I bought one of these a year ago for an XP system. Now I need the same for two new VISTA systems. I was hoping to be able to use this one and just buy one more. I researched carefully before buying a second one to see if this brand and model would work. Since I got conflicting information I even called Linksys. They too said YES, it was VISTA compatible. When trying to install I was led on a wild goose chase to find the correct driver online. Finally a second call to Syslink tech support confirmed that this adapter IS NOT compatible with 64 bit VISTA systems. Spare yourself the phone calls and the delays to get to the truth. Having disappointed two grandchildren with my "Surprise!", we are now waiting for another brand and model to come in.

  • Good product, terrible seller stay away!
    By A3C2KTGH1FUADR on 2008-11-02
Got a used product instead of new. They offerred to fix it (after posting a previous review). But all attempts to connect with the "project manager" were futile.

My recommendation is stick with Amazon and stay away from [........]

  • Works right out of the box
    By A19GXKJ0GN2WTK on 2007-05-07
I bought this for my mother and it was the easiest thing to set up. I literally plugged it into her pc and it detected the networks automatically. She is using a secured network so I had to add a wep key but the connection manager is am extremely user friendly interface so it wasn't a problem at all.

  • Awesome Wireless Accesory
    By A3L50DN5ZG1K03 on 2007-09-26
Linksys comes to the rescue again. There is nothing like the Linksys wireless accessories. I am a student and I bought one of these adapters for my computer. It was a sound investment. Easy to use and easy to set up. I highly recommend one of these for anyone who needs wireless internet access but that cable is just barley out of reach.
