  • tomatoes came out great

    By A1J5GA07NF5N7R on 2007-08-18
just used the "back to basics 220 strainer" and the results were wonderful
the machine is well built, and the instructions were made designed the way you could follow them easily. most products i buy, the instructions do not have empathy for the user who must assemble and use the product.
it worked great on the tomatoes. the seeds, peels and core came out the "discard end" and the pure "pulp juice" came out the front. i processed 200 tomatoes without a problem. bang for the buck, you can't beat the production this machine will give you the tomato season

We have used this product for both canning tomatoes and applesauce and are extremely pleased with how quickly we get results. No more peeling mess. My 8 yr. old grandson loves to turn the crank. We all love the finished products, as well.

First time I have used a strainer--made applesauce! The strainer is easy to put together, and easy to use. The kids had a great time watching me strain the food too. It gets a little messy, but that's part of the process. What I love is that it seperates the fruit from the pulp.

  • the bomb

    By AWRJNLMNP9BLC on 2008-07-19
I don't do a lot of canning, but I make homemade ketchup. After years of using a foley, a neighbor showed me this. Worth every penny. So simple, but well made.

    By A1F7NJEEOUC907 on 2008-08-27
This is the greatest product ever!!!! If your into canning salsa or do anything with tomato's this is the product for you it's 4 times faster then boiling tomato's and dumping them in cold water. I like making sauce and salsa now for the first time in 20 years.

  • Must Have!

My mom has an older model of this strainer and it's fantastic. Making applesauce is so much easier with this than with a regular food mill!

  • Worth the investment
    By A2P5ABHZ2YTMJN on 2008-10-13
After having used the old fashioned way of juicing tomatoes for 30 years I finally purchased a strainer/sauce maker. Why did I wait so long? Saves so much time, and I get more juice. Don't hesitate to make this investment.

I had recently heard about this type of kitchen tool. After a search I found the current version of the back to basic food strainer. I got the tool in just a few days and it went right to work. I had 2100#s of apples to make into applesauce. With very little help, my wife and I made over 200 quarts of applesauce in three days. The food strainer made it a breeze.

  • Perfection in a package
    By A16YU3GRGCD95S on 2008-09-25
This has to be one of the most handy items that a home cook could possibly have in her kitchen. If you do canning this is something that will take so much time and effort off your hands it's unbelievable. I did an entire bushel of tomatoes in 24 hours and that's including cooking them down to a wonderful sauce. What would have normally taken me a week to do and with burnt fingers took me no time at all. I will never go back to the old way peeling tomatoes for canning and sauce again. This item was well worth every penny I paid for it plus some. It paid for itself in just this one season alone.
Easy to use is the understatement so what are you waiting for. Enjoy!

It works great, the only reason I didn't give it five stars is the clamp to hold it should be bigger I had a hard time finding a table to put it on, but after I got it set up everything was fine.

  • Made applesauce FUN
    By AFK0NIUEW61Q8 on 2008-10-03
Loved having the ease of chop into large chunks, boils and then send through the machine. I had so much applesauce made in an hour it was insane. I love it!

  • WOW!!!! This is fantastic!!!!

My mom and I started to make applesauce together about five years ago. We used the same method my grandma taught her many years ago - pushing the cooked apples through a cone shaped colander. The downside of the colander method is two bushels of apples is all my mom was up for even with us working as a team. Two bushels simply is not enough for my family so I was looking for a new method. A friend of mine received one of these Back To Basics sauce makers as a gift a year or two ago and she raved about it. I bought one and tried out a five pound test batch of applesauce today. WOW! I can not say enough about how pleased I am with this. It was so easy! Pressing the apples used to take forever. Now it is so fast we will easily keep ahead of the person cooking the apples. I can hardly wait till my parents visit in two weeks so we can make three bushels worth of sauce. It will be done in no time. Now that I have this sauce maker, maybe I will try making tomato sauce next summer. It is a good quality, well made product with one exception. The clear plastic spout where the waste comes out is really cheap. I treated it tenderly and it did not break during our first use but I am sure it is only a matter of time before it breaks.

  • This is a great product!

I was so excited to get this! I had an older version that I lost in a move, and that one went strong for years. This one is a great replacement. We make fruit sauces and tomato sauces and jellies and jams and other things every year, and I can't imagine not being able to do that. Thanks to this new mill we can continue our traditions. I highly recommend this for making applesauce with children. My children and my students always look forward to it every autunm. Just cook the apples, put them through this mill and eat! Well worth the money for years of family fun!

  • Time Saver!
    By A1AFWKPLPSB8OW on 2008-10-13
This food strainer is such an improvement over my old food mill! I've used it on tomatoes and apples so far, and really love it. It is sturdy and well-made, with the exception of the clear plastic spout - which broke after its 6th use. My suggestion would be to order an extra one right off the bat, since they're so fragile. They aren't available right now - my guess is that they sell a lot of them! Otherwise, I'm very happy with this product.

  • great time saver
    By A19AVGAV07USID on 2008-10-14
It helps a lot when making salsa as far as saving time but, the spout pops off quite often while we were making it when we would put dry vegetables through such as green peppers. I also feel there salsa blade is a little too fine for me.

I received this sauce maker just in time to do all my tomatoes and apples. It worked great and was a great time saver. I would recommend this item to anyone who likes to make jellies, tomatoe sauce, apple sauce and salsa. It is a product I could not do with out now that I have tried it.

The Back to Basics Food Strainer worked great. It worked just as well as my old Victorio Strainer and was even able to fasten to my kitchen counter that my other one couldn't. It's light and easy to clean.
