  • Absolute winner for Antec

    By A1WEGKFS8S6A68 on 2006-12-09
I build my own computers and for family and friends as needed. I researched several for the purpose of building a quiter gaming case for family use than the one we had which enclosed several 80mm fans and still gave the option of a side mounted fan and a window to show off the inner workings or even give you the peace of mind to make sure your fans still work and maybe that everything is still there. Well, anyway, this case has the power supply mounted on the bottom which allows for the top to house the 200mm fan which has 3 speed settings and is almost silent on the high setting even.

The P/S being mounted on the bottom allows for cool air that falls to be pulled through it and not cause premature wear and heat related shutdowns with that particular device. I have always considered the bottom of a vertical case to be better than the top for a power supply since many bulk manufacturers use only the fan in the P/S to pull heat out and this "cheap trick" significantly shortens the life of computer hardware by not allowing heat out of the case except through the unit which makes it even hotter. Power supplies and hard drives die early because of heat problems almost exclusively. The fans in this case are more than adequate to provide enough circulation with very little noise and plenty of room to expand and work. The case is also very light in weight as it is mostly made of aluminum. The handy tray on top works well for holding anything from ink pens to screws while working on the case.

It looks very well built and I must say that it is even better than the pictures can show. Combined with a good power supply, this case is an excellent start to a new system or, as in my case, a very welcome and fully featured upgrade to an existing system. The only thing lacking, which doesn't really bother me that much but may others if it is a feature that you feel you really need, is that it does not have a removable motherboard tray meaning that you will have to do most of the work while it is installed in the case. This is an extraordinary product for the price and a very nice step in the case industry for Antec.

  • few installation hiccups, overall great case

    By A8JE8K4NYDKZP on 2006-12-03
I just built a Core Duo computer using this case, and I'm very satisfied with the results. The case is beautiful from the outside and somewhat roomy on the inside. The fans are numerous and very quiet.

The largest problem I had was that this case puts the power supply at the bottom of the case. This makes for more room near the top, which is great, but some power cables (notably the 24 pin power connector and 4 pin power connector) were too short. I had to buy extension cables. It was also a little tough to screw in the hard drives into their cages, but with those points in mind, I am very satisfied.

The case glows blue in the front which looks great. The USB ports and power button on the top are great ideas. I'd buy it again, but I'd make sure to buy the extension cables at the same time.

  • It's okay, but..

    By A5SZ6BM5XJTJC on 2007-10-01
I was pretty excited about getting this case from all of the reviews I read, however I was disappointed once I installed everything.

    Pro's:
    - Plenty of width to support the large Zalman (9700) fans.
    - Provides excellent air circulation, system kept very cool. (I'm running a QX6850 Quad-Core with a 8800GTX Video card.)
    - Sturdy case, not too heavy.

    Con's:
    - Not enough space on the inside, very tight, and a lot of cabling you will need to shift around.
    - Very poor molex connectors for case fans. Be prepared for these to break on you (or pins get pushed in) if you disconnect/reconnect fans more than a few times. They use an extremely weak metal composite, and can bend/break very easily. Top mounted Firewire/USB ports face similar issues.
    - Case is not very long (width is fine for large fans, but that's it), and you will have difficulties installing 8800 series graphic cards. (This case was definately not designed for the 8800's.) They will fit, however you will have to shift around all of your front-loaded drives to make a single video card fit. If you're thinking about 2 cards SLI, you may need to remove one of the front fans.
    - Bottom mounted power supply. Some like this, I don't. The 8800 graphic cards fill the entire length of available space, and the PSU is directly below. This means that hot air is constantly blown into the graphics card, and there is no space for the air to escape except through the peripheral ports on the back. If you have a small video card, though, this won't be an issue.
    - Cabling is packed in so tight that you will need to adjust the clear/side panel (has protruding mounts for an extra fan, however they can take up a lot of space.)

If you're building a gaming or video editing workstation (especially with 8800 cards), I would not recommend this case. (You will definately need more space, and higher quality ports/cabling.)

  • Get the most out of your system without Water Cooling

    By A23142KOLFAYCZ on 2007-01-17
This case is a great choice for the Enthusiast gamer. It has 3 120mm fans and one huge 200mm blower. Even with the extra fans it runs quiet.
    Pros:
The cooling potential of a more expensive Water system.
    Six hard drive bays.
    Cool looks
    Cons:
Factor in a bigger power supply with long cables since it mounts at the bottom.
Earphone and Mic jack on the front. Nice but most on-board motherboards don't support.

  • Less Noise and Heat, Plus Great Looking

    By A12KGTNP0I3ANC on 2007-07-01
This case was purchased for the purpose of solving a problem with heat my computer was putting into my room, and for noise reduction. It hit a homerun in solving both problems.

Since I live inland from the Pacific Coast in So CA heat is a big problem in the summer months.

Heat from hard drives is not something I would have expected to be an issue, but upon opening my old computer case and putting my fingers on the hard drive cases I was surprised at how hot they were. From the picture of the Antec case you might notice that cooling to the hard drive area is provided by a fan assisted vented front. The hard drives in the case purchased, are now are just slightly warm to the touch. It is suspected that by not allowing the heat to build up in the hard drives they put out less heat even though the air flow is greater.

Venting heat out the top of computer case makes more sense to me, especially if the back of the computer is close to a wall as mine is. The use of a 200mm fan, about 8 inch diameter, takes into consideration the principle that heat rises, and builds up if it cannot. Taking advantage of the case size to make this a large fan, given it is the most easily heard fan, is a very good design.

The option of adding a fan to the side of the case adds additional cooling to any video card you might have and has worked well for me.

Some cases now use levered snap connectors eliminating the need for a screw driver. This case does not. Unless you are planning on changing your drives every month or buying 400 cases for a company I would not give this much consideration. The case I purchased requires only a Phillips head screw driver and the 3.5 inch drives are held in by compression. Meaning you do not have to thread the mounting screws into the threaded holes of the hard drive case. A final note is that all the drives you might want to install can be slid in from either the front or the back. Since the depth of this case is fairly long, this is not as much as an issue as it has been with older cases.

Fan speeds of low, medium and high are available for this case's fans. The good news is there is an individual speed control for each of the case's four fans. The bad news is you have open up the case to change the fan speed. If there are going to be variable speed fans I would have voted for external controls give my usage.

Summing it up from my perspective, this is a case that has reduced both heat and noise over the previous case I had, and it is much easier to work with. It looks much nicer than my older computer case and the button I use the most, the power button located on top of the case, is more accessible.

  • Great Enthusiast case and it's quiet!
    By A355DC5I388LI7 on 2007-01-16
What's not to like here? It's a big case that moves a ton of air and is quiet while doing it. The only thing else I would put on it is a carying handle for LAN parties. My former case was the Antec Super Lanboy so I had high expectations for this case. It didn't let me down a bit. This rig sits on top of my desk at present and it's more quiet than my old Super Lanboy. I read a few articles about space issues when you have a big card in it but I had no problems moving the parts and pieces around to match the different configs I tried. Setup: Intel E6600, ATI x1900 xt, 2gb OCS Platinum, Abit ab9pro,Raidmax RX630, DVD burner, floppy, Vista RC1 ... and still going....

  • Ultimate Custom Case
    By A2LW9C3RQ609XB on 2007-03-11
I'm very pleased with this purchase! Coming standard with a 200mm and 120mm exhaust fan, and two 120mm intake fans (not to mention the fans on your cpu-heat-sink and power-supply), this case has excellent air-flow. It also has built in mounts for additional 120mm fans on the clear side-panel, and on the 2nd harddrive bay. The clear side-panel looks excellent with the blue-led fans. The top-front audio, usb, and firewire ports are also very convenient. Easy installation and customization, and excellent instructions for assembly/modification. Not only would I recommend this case to others, but I already have recommended it to everyone I know that's planning on building a computer soon.

  • Very good
    By A2BFL0434N3V54 on 2007-03-19
I bought this case locally and I must say this is the best one I've had in a long time. Not much to it. Just put in the motherboard and PSU and away you go. Having the PSU on the bottom was a switch, infact I like it there. I have all of the fans running at medium speed and it is quiet, quieter than my my old case which had 4 92mm and 2 PSU fans. You could hear it in the other room. The ANTEC I can't hear in any room other the computer room and then only sitting next to it.

The case sits under my desk and the 200mm fan keeps it cool underneath. The blue lights are nice, really lights up the interior of the case.

Any who get this case should be pleased with it.

recent upgrade to my system chose this case due to space and design with all the fans running cools both system and user. easy feature of top usb slots very handy. would buy again

  • great case
    By A1WE47VJ1DDIQ4 on 2007-03-27
This case has so many fans you don't need to water cool. I love having the on button on top with the usb hook ups. Plus a little holding area for my sirus stilletto. case is a great size. the only negetives are but no big deal, is routing fan wires on the hard drive bays and and adding one more slot for 5.25 drive there is three if you dont remove one of the removeble hard drive bays.

  • ULTIMATE GAMER'S CASE
    By A20Q88EEJOUR24 on 2007-11-10
With four case fans included (three 120's and a massive 200mm top fan) and a distinctive look incorporating a chevron side window and mesh front, the Nine Hundred brings a lot to the table in both performance and aesthetics. I like the drive bay design and while the interior is conventional in most respects, it's very well executed and relatively easy to work in. If you're a PC enthusiast that values cooling performance in a chassis, make sure to give Antec's new Nine Hundred chassis your attention. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

  • Amazing Cooling with Antec 900
    By A1UKT9PMUR58ZA on 2008-01-07
pros: I have had absolutely no problems with the Antec 900. My gaming system stays cool. I recommend this case for those who love gaming. Easy installation of motherboard and especially wiring from my Ultra X-connect psu which look great with the lighting from the 120mm fans... : ) Also easy access with thumb screws on side panel. First case I have ever used with the psu on the bottom. If its hot you can't feel it, it's so cool. Try it...you'll like it!

cons: Longer control switches for the fans would make adjusting the speeds easier, have the control on the top like the usb ports. That would be awesome. Probably mean higher price, but its worth it. Would be nice to have a handle on the top, instead of a tray; almost looks like one is there from a distance...Oh yea I like lan parties and they hate to see me coming with this monster... -,-

  • Antec 900
    By A1A05IFMCA9QTE on 2008-02-15
This case is nicely, but tightly, designed with the PS at the bottom. Installing the hard drives is especially easy with the drive bays sliding out the front (8 thumb screws per cage, tho!!). You can attach signal and power cables with the cage outside and then slide it back in. This feature is espcially nice since space for cables is tight and some planning needs to be done ahead of time to optimize air flow. Also, my hands are large and working in tight spaces is a real challenge for me.

My case arrived with a broken top panel, but a call to Antec quickly resulted in a new panel being shipped to me right away, no cost. I suspect that the original box may have had some rough treatment along the way since there were many fit and finish issues with parts just not quite aligning during the installation of all components. One mystery was that 4 of the required mother board standoff screws were already installed and two of them were stripped necessitating some work on my part to get them snug again. I wonder if this case was a return job that was sold as new?

The fans are really quiet and you can barely hear them even after I installed an optional 120mm fan in the side panel. Gamers and modders will like the blue LEDs.

I really like Antec cases as I have this one and a 180. My problems with this 900 were unusual, but I would consider another one.

Wish list for Antec on the 900: increase the clearance between the mother board and PS and between the mother board and the drive bays by 1/2 inch. Also, check fit and finish QA.

  • Ice Cold
    By ADF6TBAOFOX0C on 2008-04-02
This thing not only keeps my system cool, I dont even need to turn the AC on in my house. I'm freezing! Did i say "IT OWNS?" Perfect size, i'll never buy a full tower case again. Mid size is more than enough room. Super easy installation for a first time builder, makes my $500 upgrade look like I bought a $1500 PC.

    Advantages:
    -200mm fan on top
    -Mp3 holder/cup holder on top
-I love how the PSU is on the bottom
-Slidable 3 slot hard drive compartments with 120mm cooling fans (ownz)

    Cons:
Spend some time doing cable management or it will look ugly in there!
GPU is upside down. Looks funny hah

  • Good Value - Great Performance
    By AFVN7CDNHM1QW on 2008-04-06
Purchased this case to house a fast graphics rendering system, not a "gamer". The issues normally associated with a rendering box are somewhat similar to the gamer in that running the quad cpu, drives, memory, and graphics card for long periods of intense computing can allow damaging or life-shorting heat to build up in the components. This case provides excellent ventilation and air flow along with plenty of space for drives. I could live without the clear side and blue led's but it still gets the job done well at this price. The "on top" controls work well if you set it on the floor and are very convenient, this is a well constructed, sturdy case.

  • A great case to keep your components cool.
    By A39T76EJIRCQE on 2008-04-08
I finished building my machine about 2 weeks ago, and I am very happy with this case. The fans keep everything running cool, and the bottom mounted power supply adds stability to the machine. I like the top tray for holding small items, like an MP3 player, and the front mounted USB connections are very handy. I didn't mind the lack of a removable motherboard tray, I don't plan on swapping motherboards out very often, so for me, it was a non-issue. It would have been nice to connect the fans to the motherboard for control, but I am running all fans on low, and everything is still very cool (even the 8600GT video card) and suprisingly quiet. I am very happy with this case!

  • Great Case for cooling, sturdy, and looks nice.
    By A2E8QJM4M8FB5Z on 2008-04-25
    Pros-

This case has amazing cooling capacity. Not only does it come with one 200mm fan but also with 3 120mm fans: all with blue LEDs. The fans themselves are quite even on full speed; especially when compared to a processor fan. The processor will always over-spin the case fans creating excess noise; however, with the cooling capabilities of the case my CPU fan now runs at lower speeds. There are access ports for USB and sound conveniently located at the top of the case which which is an added bonus. In addition, the case is aesthetically pleasing and built sturdy.

-Note: Don't listen to the fools that tell you that the power supply mounted on the bottom of the case blows hot air into the case and onto their video card. They are wrong; power supplies blow hot air from inside the case to the outside of the case. The way the case is set up, you have air blowing out at the bottom, top, and extreme top of the case along with two powerful fans at the bottom front of the case blowing cool air in. In addition, with the power supply mounted at the bottom, it leaves more air space for the CPU fan/heatsink, allowing for better dissipation and air flow: in tow, the two fans above and beside are more able to circulate air through and around the CPU unit.

I also have a BFG 8800 GTX OC. This is a very large card and I had absolutely no problems installing it. The only downside, is that if you have a full length card like the 8800, you are unable to install the optional 120mm inside mounted fan that fits behind the front panel 120mm fan. This is not a big deal.

    Cons-

The major problem I had was that I had to buy an extension cord for the 12v CPU power cord; my 24 pin mobo cord had no problem reaching its fitting. The 12v 4 pin extender for the CPU power was difficult to find.

Another problem was that took a while to set up. You had to take both side panels off, remove and reinstall quite a few finger style screws to install your CD Rom and hard drives. In addition, it was difficult for me to hide all of my cabling, but I also have 3 hard drives and a CD-Rom drive; as such, this was to be expected.

Lastly, there is no speaker or power LED, but the power LED is unneeded because if your case does not light up the room, its not powered. I wish Antec supplied a speaker for the case; speakers can help with diagnosing a problem in your setup. I may add one later, but we will see.

    Final note:

I bought the case primarily for the cooling properties. But I love the way it looks, appreciate the top tray, and found the top mounted USB ports very convenient.

Installation was not as easy as it could had been perhaps, but the design is extremely sturdy, and I think that was Antec's intent since gamers often haul their computers around. Overall I am very pleased with the case!

  • Amazingly quiet air cooled case.
    By A1UI4AEE3LXDON on 2008-05-16
I've had mine for about a year now, and I'm in the process of picking out new parts to build a friend a rig. This is the only case I will build a new rig in; I love it that much.

    Pro's:
    - Relatively small, mid case. Doesn't take up much room.
    - very, very quiet despite having several fans.
    - amazing air ventilation which keeps an air cooled system healthy.
    - rubber opening in the back for water-cooling tubes
    - feels solid/sturdy.
    - stylish, sophisticated look; yet still sharp looking.

    Con's
    - can get dusty since there aren't fan filters. However you should be able to clean it out once a year and do find.
    - some mobo's have their power connector at the top which can be an issue with some power supplies with shorter wires.

    Common complaints & rebuttal
    - too tight or hard to work in: - How often do you WORK in a computer? Set up, then maybe an upgrade in a year. Complaining about having to work in a tight area shouldn't be much of a complaint when 350+ other days of the year you have a cool, quiet, well put together computer you don't have to worry about.
    - can't fit in large vid cards (8800/9800): - Yes you can. I have 8800GTS' in SLI. No problem. It's tight, but they fit. It took me less than 10 min to add the 2nd one (which includes unhooking everything, pulling it out from under my desk, unscrewing the back, opening, a little dusting, sliding the card in, etc.)

  • gaming case
    By A2HHJV0VGJPOFT on 2008-06-05
beautiful case. LOTS of spots for fans. cant believe how much cooler my machine runs just with this case. the two fans up front not only look cool but work with the 2 in the back amazingly. the big boy up top sucks all the heat right out and dropped 11 degrees just by switching cases. could be a little more roomy inside as larger video cards might have an issue with harddrive placement because of fan placement.

  • Antec does it again
    By A1R0K1CF4VYJFU on 2008-06-11
This case is excellent. It could use a little more room for the hard drives so that they aren't so close to the gpu. They could have echieved this my making the unit a little taller, but I can't complain. It has 3 huge fans with 3 differnet speeds and nice ice blue led's. Rackmount style storage. I also ordered an additional floppy bay for my media card reade. Excellent case. Airflow is great and keeps drives cool to the touch. A+

  • Antec 900
    By A3VIBAQFQ69ITQ on 2008-08-01
I have had this case for a couple of weeks now, and it is an amazing case. It can be extremely loud if I turn up all the fans, but if I put them on low, it is very quiet. I wish cable management was better. However, the case I received is the 2nd version of the Antec 900 which has a couple of holes on the backplate to run the wiring. After spending a couple of hours routing the cables through it, the temperature dropped another 10 degrees.

  • Airflow heaven & quiet
    By A3OH101U0CPUC7 on 2008-08-04
The Antec Nine Hundred has been very popular since its release. It features 3 120mm fans (2 up front and 1 in back) as well as a "Big Boy" that vents hot air out of the top that measures a whopping 200mm. Each fan has an adjustable switch that allows you to choose one of three speed settings. In addition, the case will hold another fan on the side panel to cool the video card(s) and another that mounts on the back of a hard drive cage that can be used for either the processor area or video cards. One word of warning for this last fan mount, however, is that if you have long video cards then there won't be room for the fan inside the case.

The one thing that I could see being a problem for some users is that this case is in no way toolless. You must use a screwdriver for everything you install. While some can't stand that, it doesn't bother me and I found assembling my new PC inside the case to be stress free. The power supply is mounted at the bottom which helps make the machine less top heavy while also keeping the supply unit cooler. Airflow is amazing, and with all of my fans set at medium speed you can barely hear them at all. In short, this case is great for almost any build you might have in mind. Unless you plan to really pack a ton of drives and a water-cooling solution space shouldn't be a problem. This is a great case that runs cool and quiet while providing a reasonable ease of use and decent documentation.

  • Great looking, great cooling
    By AV25C0HXHMTA2 on 2007-06-03
Comes complete, good layout, somewhat more difficult compared to others to work with hard drives as there isn't a simple lever to release to gain access like other cases. But, it is quiet for sure, I am running at the medium settings for all fans, keeps my system cool. Not overclocking, but have a full system: 3 internal hardrives, 2 external hardrives, ASUS A8R32-MVP Deluxe, 2G ram, 2 DVD burners, ATI 1900 XTX, AMD 4400, etc. and I can finally close my case! Normally needed to leave it open to help keep it cool. For me this is a sweet case, looks cool too.

  • Antec Nine Hundred case
    By A22KL2CJVDMZ3E on 2007-09-11
I purchase this case for my 12 year-old son who wanted to build his own computer. He chose this case after reading the specifications and because of its looks (see-through panel and blue lights) and the price. He was able to follow the instructions in the manual and got his computer assembled and running without problems. We did call Antec customer support to clarify two things: 1) that the fans act as LED and 2)the audio port connection (AC'97 connector to Audio on mother board) on the motherboard. They were very helpful. He's very happy and proud of his selection.

  • Amazing ventilation
    By A1GT654BPYIESR on 2007-09-18
This case has wonderful airflow. Two 12cm fans on their lowest setting cool two 5.25"x3 drive bays thoroughly, and it's all sucked out and more by a huge custom fan on top and another 12cm fan on the rear. It looks stunning, too.

No built-in speaker and the use of molex instead of 3 pin motherboard fan connectors take a star away.

The case meets all my needs. There is plenty of space for any kind of CPU cooling solution. The plastic side panel allows me to see exactly what is going on inside the case and the blue fan LEDs make the case glow.

  • Works perfectly

I've had this case for about 6 months with a 680SLi motherboard, 650 Watt PSU, 640MB 8800GTS, E6700, 500GB Samsung HD, and no problems whatsoever. It was easy to hook everything up, and there was plenty of space. The ports on the top are very handy and I love its geeky styling. The huge fans create lots of airflow and are pretty quiet. Actually, I think the loudest fan inside is the stock one that came with the CPU. Some day I'll replace that fan with a quieter one, but it runs cool enough with that one, so it's not urgent. Also, this case seems to be plenty big, but not overly gigantic. Buy one!

  • Good Cooling Case
    By AQ26AHCOJ2249 on 2007-12-02
The case is large and has good room to drop in the motherboard. Build quailty is average but normal in this price range. Ventilation is very good. Instructons could be a lot better. The case does it's job and for the price is it an overclockers bargain. The only big negative is that it has difficult cable management.

I bought this case after a co-work had one shipped and I got a good look at it. It is super quiet, it looks pretty, and it keeps my components cool.

I like the top tray and USB/Firewire connectors. The internal is laid out pretty nice. I actually got rid of the both drive bay fan (inner) inserts even though I only needed space for two drives. The fans included were enough for me.

I ran most of my cables through the hole at the PSU area and fan/component plugs out the holes at the top left of the case so my rig is virtually cable free. This was easy with flat modular power connectors that came with the Corsair PSU I have.

In this case my stuff runs at low 30's celcius.
