Customer Reviews

  • Excellent Value

    By ACTUSLIM5OZYU on 2007-05-10
For the price, the sound is quite good. I also like that they use a standard AC plug instead of an AC adapter and you can actually turn them completely off when away from the computer without having to uplug the adapter. Overall, I'm very pleased with the purchase.

  • Better Than Most - Especially For The Price

    By AWPODHOB4GFWL on 2007-11-08

For the price: These are tough, sturdy attractive looking speakers. In fact, better than most. The treble is excellent and the mid-range is near perfect. The bass is a high-bass, so don't expect your desk to rumble, but the overall quality of sound is very good. There is distortion after a ¾ turn of the dial. The orange "on" light is a bit bright (I'd prefer blue or green, but that is a minor concern). The volume control does make a pronounced difference in loudness, but the tone control varies only in the absence of bass. It is easy to set up and there is a convenient headphone jack and a single male plug for external music sources (not great for iPod users - you'll still need to use your computer's USB port).

  • Very Good Sound & Built "Kid" Tough

    By A3EZ2PLA8AFPIF on 2008-01-11
I can not really add much to my review which has not already been said. These are great sounding speakers for the price.
If you want speakers with accurate music reproduction, thumping bass and higher volumes, best to spend more money and upgrade to Logitech's Z-4 model. But for casual listening and computer gaming, the X-140 speakers are more than adequate.
My biggest positive is the durability & construction; very hard plastic backs with heavy duty metal front grills (which are virtually impenetrable to pencils, pens, and other kid wielded objects). So far, after 4 months of use, I have deemed them "kid proof". Those of you who have small children know what I mean. I highly recommend the X-140's for those on a budget or those who just can't see the logic in dropping big dollars when kids are around.

  • Crystal Clear Sound

    By on 2007-02-14
These speakers rock! The sound is very crisp and clean. I heard background singers on my cd's I have never heard before with either my Bose speakers or Sennheiser headset. All of the plugs and connecting cords are permanently attached to the back of the speakers and are much thicker than most. In addition, the power plug is a normal 3 prong instead of a fat dc converter. If you are looking for booming bass that fills a room these are not for you, but if you are looking for a quality pair of desktop speakers with clear detailed sound that also work great with a walkman or mp3 I highly recommend them.

  • Excellent speakers

    By A2PY21UDRRVQ7F on 2007-02-22
These are great speakers. Great sound, a lot of good bass. And best of all, there's virtually no interference from cellphones with these speakers (unlike my last pair of cyber accoustics). You can't go wrong with these. I even love the useful audio in and headphone jacks.

  • Good desktop speaker at its price range
    By A2K3XAK8BP8LA on 2007-12-11
I have been looking around for some desktop speakers and not thinking about spending too much money on it. I looked at many models on-line and also in the stores and finally I decided to buy this set. I like the design that it comes without a bulky power converter. At the price of $29 when I purchased it, it produces sound loud enough for my PC and it looks solid without the usual cheap plastic feel. I didn't give it a five star because its sound tends to be blur at extremely higher volume and at very deep base setting. Since I use real stereo equipment for listening to music, I wouldn't turn on the volume very high on this speakers anyway. But...let me tell you, I use this set of speakers to play a old Warcraft III game and it really sounds very well, loud, deep and stereo. For a set of desptop speakers, this will be my best choice for under $30.

  • AWESOME SPEAKERS
    By A2QPW5EHEW67AO on 2006-10-12
These speakers are awesome value for the money. The Bass is awesome & so are the highs. I have only a small office but for the money they can't be beat!!

  • Not full range
    By AZZR8DUVE5L8O on 2007-07-06
I bought these speakers based on the reviews... I was expecting these speakers to be full range but it lacks the bass that most speakers in this price range has. I must admit the mids are very good but it doesn't go as low as I thought. These are decent speakers, but for the money, I would have gone with a 2.1 setup instead. My fault for not testing these speakers prior to purchasing.

  • Okay for the money
    By A1YQALYAR5RT2 on 2007-07-25
Some pop and crackle at not particularly high volume, bass takes away some clarity from midrange. Okay for casual listening while sitting at the computer.

  • Logitech scores again
    By AMUTYOX234D90 on 2008-01-12
A fervent music fan (opera, orchestral, Broadway, big band, jazz), I never thought I'd see the day when I'd listen to most of my music on the computer, but that day recently arrived.

So, I decided it was time to think beyond the lackluster speakers embedded in my monitor, and I shopped around. Having previously bought the Logitech iPod charger/player, which I found surprisingly good, I was predisposed to the brand. Still, I was unsure about getting these speakers after reading some of the less-positive reviews on this page.

I'm glad to say my fears proved unfounded. You just can't beat the sound of these for the price. They are perhaps just a tiny bit short on both the high and low ends of the sound spectrum, but other than that nit, they provide very satisfying sound. I haven't regretted my purchase for one minute.

  • Sounds great, low price
    By AGLSPVC2DFBR1 on 2007-02-12
These are much, much better than the freebie speakers that come with typical computer systems. Both the lows and highs are much more realistic both for speaking and music.

  • Not that great
    By A37QKM4P7CRXM on 2007-03-21
You could certainly do worse for the price, but the clarity just isn't there. I use them at relatively low volume at my office. I recommend Creative Labs speakers over this.

  • great sound for the price
    By A2G20ZKT57FODY on 2007-05-15
These are really nice speakers. The bass is warm and the highs are crisp, especially given the price. I rotate them between my laptop and a cheap boom box I have. I recommend them!

  • Disappointing
    By A1Y3ECGECWDCAZ on 2007-10-25
I'm surprised at all the positive reviews, but I guess different strokes for different folks. I think these things sound awful...not enough low end, very "middy" and hollow for my ears, very boring, lifeless sound. I'm shopping for something new.

  • Whole lot of value for just a little bit of money!
    By AEJNWMXJS818O on 2008-02-10
This is one of those purchases where I felt I got every penney's worth. These speakers are inexpensive but made well and with completely acceptable sound for casual listening. If, however, you are wanting really good speakers for a really good music listening experience, you need to consider a bigger purchase. As for me, I wanted the following features: 1) The off/on button right in front, no unplugging. They have a port for MP3, and a port for headsets, also right on front. They are constructed well- heavy with attractive metal, not plastic, grill in front. These aren't ugly. 2) I wanted to be able to listen to movies on my computer with decent sound, on the rare times that I do that, and to listen to anything else I need to hear on the computer (videos) and 3) I wanted them to be compact so they would fit on my desk in a space-tight room (they are about 3.5 inches across the front and about 8 inches high). These speakers are great for all of the above. For the discerning listener, however, who really wants GREAT sound and alot of bass, you simply have got to be willing to spend more- probably ALOT more. Otherwises, incredible value for the money- I was very pleased with this purchase and recommend highly!!

  • Not bad for the price
    By AT1SAOP657M26 on 2007-01-10
Speakers have plenty of bass at low volume. They lose it when you turn it up, and the max volume of these speakers isn't anything crazy either. For a set of small desktop speakers I think they do great though.

  • Full Range fidelity at an excellent price
    By A1HYZUL6MFTJ7F on 2007-03-11
Although these speakers can't compete with a high power home theater system, for the size and price, these speakers produce very good sound. I use them with a Logitech wireless music system as a portable player from my PC or sometimes use them as external speakers for my Mp3 player. For these portable applications I wanted small size, big sound and reasonable price. Logitech easily met all requirements. I'm quite happy with this purchase.

  • Very Great 2.0 Speakers that Produce Excellent Sound!
    By AVIBAOVE8XIKB on 2007-11-02
These speakers produce excellent sound. If your not into surround sound systems and just want something small, these are awesome. They also have 2 jacks: 1 to plug in your headphones, and 1 to plug in an external source - like an MP3 player, TV, CD player, etc. They even have a Tone nob to control Bass instead of a clunky Sub-Woofer. I bought these to replace some old and dying 6+ yr. old speakers and they do the job better.

  • Don't Expect Customer Support from Logitech when they don't work
    By A1311CS7L9W3B5 on 2008-03-18
I've purchased Logitech's X140 speakers and they didn't work within a week of purchase. They have to be turned up all of the way before a low tinny noise comes out, but there's almost no volume working. I then went to Logitech's website, which doesn't list the speakers at all in their technical support. I finally located the manual on the speakers, but found the file was corrupted when I tried to download. I went to their 'Contact Us' page, filled out a long form about the issue the speakers where having. Once complete they then force you to sign up for a new account before you can submit the issue to their customer service. You shouldn't have to give up your personal information in return for customer service. Absolutely awful.

  • Excellent Speakers
    By A1MVP4DLMQKWWI on 2007-08-25
Pro: Sounds great! The look fits nicely with my black monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc...

Con: The bright orange colored light indicator (when the speakers are "on") is a little distracting, but only if I am looking directly at that one speaker with the light, so that is not really a problem. I would have preferred a cooler color such as green or blue for the "on" indicator light. Also, the staticky sound the speakers make when they are first turned on is annoying, but it only occurs at the instant the speakers transition from off to on by using the dial. However, I am starting to get used to this staticky sound after hearing it for a while now every time I turn the speakers on.

Conclusion: If you can overlook the two cons I listed, I would definitely recommend these speakers.

  • Superb Speakers for the price!
    By ANDFNYO34TXQ2 on 2007-01-09
These speakers are exceptionally good considering the price, and have ample power

  • Great Sound!!!
    By AQMK5UYH9TTA8 on 2007-10-17
These speakers have a great sound, with adjustable tone range. It also has a very easy access headset jack and another jack to plug in a MP3 player or any other audio device to use the speakers. I pluged in my portable XM Radio for a super sound. The only issue I had was the size of the speakers. I was looking for more portability with my laptop. These speakers are far to large for that. It was my fault for not reading the details of there size as it was clearly stated if I had looked close enough. However, the sound was so good, I decidied to replace my desktop speakers and these speakers work great.

  • Decent for the price
    By A3S7EYN8112ZUZ on 2008-01-12
I was really just looking for a pair of speakers to get my girlfriend so that she would be bored out of her mind while she was surfing the internet. She's no audiophile, so quality wasn't a big issue. These seemed to fit the bill. Once I got them, I wasn't disappointed. I wasn't ecstatic, mind you, but I wasn't disappointed. Good quality, good base response, and they seem sturdy enough.

The tweeter and woofer are connected, so when a decent amount of bass hits, you'll lose a little bit of the mid-high/high frequency response. Also, The volume knob is kind of stiff. You turn it on and at about 10 o'clock on the volume dial, it kind of gets stuck. It's stiff to the point where you've either got to leave it right at about the 10 o'clock position, or turn it all the way up to 12/1 o'clock. Other than those minor issues (I guess that depends on who you're asking) their good speakers. If you're serious about your computer audio, don't bother. But if you just want to be able to hear music and videos when you're surfing the web, go for it.

  • Worked for awhile...
    By A2ASIW0M55N583 on 2008-01-25
I was excited to receive these speakers due to the good reviews that I had read. The speakers worked fine with my new computer for a couple of months. Now, the sound is awful and the mix is out of whack. I wish I had better things to say about this set. I'm looking for a new set now.

  • Excellent 2.0 Speakers - Solid Sound - Solidly Built
    By AQJRKHAWU1TCU on 2008-08-16
UPDATE: Once I moved the speakers straight back as far as possible towards the wall behind them - and thus the sound bounces of the wall behind me - there's an enormous improvement. The sound is full, rich and deep.

    ===================================

But they cannot, and are not, a replacement for 2.1 or higher speakers. The mid- and high ranges are excellent, but the bass really needs its separate outlet. The overall first impression is a rather flat sound but if you have a good sound card and/or a good sound application most of these shortcomings can be alleviated.

They're built like brick outhouses - the most solid computer peripherals I've seen in a long time. And, in a fit of absolute genius, no separate power brick but an actual, honest to goodness old-fashioned plug that goes straight into the wall. (Hallelujah!)

  • Great value
    By A217D1YV070XQU on 2007-05-31
For the money, these are really nice sounding speakers. They're not theater quality speakers and don't claim to be, but for casual listening on the computer, I think they're great!

  • Good for the price, but a little bulky
    By A1TITHOSW4GLDP on 2007-10-08
These have pretty good sound, considering they don't have a subwoofer, but they are larger than you might be expecting (check the dimensions). Also, don't expect them to just blow you away with loudness, either...not gonna happen.

  • Great Quality and Value!
    By A33TON43WT9R1E on 2007-10-09
This is no 5 channel speaker system, but perfect for the user wanting quality desktop sound from games and internet when you don't feel like wearing the headphones. I use for BF2142 with 64 voices and works wonderfully without waking up the rest of the house with vibration.

  • Great Speakers
    By A14LVKBL3ULET2 on 2007-11-08
The are the best speakers that we have gotten. The volume is perfect for when my boys want to watch a DVD and they can't use the TV.

  • Great Speakers at a Great Price
    By A3K4ZA2T9NAXGA on 2007-12-19
These speakers are definitely worth the price. I have owned a Creative 5 satellite speakers with base and paid over a hundred dollars for it. It was junk. The base just hummed and the speakers were low quality. For decent quality and power get the Logitech speakers. "These are pretty good speakers," is all that needs to be said.
