  • works 100% for a psp

    By A12I59002V44FJ on 2007-10-25
if you are buying this for a psp, then YES IT WORKS! It is awesome! People are saying that its slow loading movies, but I've had no problems. I had more wait time loading movies on my 4gb then on the 8. Have no doubt this is the real deal, an 8gb for the psp. movies/pictures/songs can hold it all!!

  • It's a memory Card.... but Beware of Fakes!

    By A3TR96WORVQ3ON on 2008-01-07
So I ordered the 8GB memory card from a retailer on Amazon. It came in, and everything looked as it should. Then as I started to use it in my Video camera, I was getting error messages and data corruption issues. I did some searching around on the internet and I found that the error is usually do to counterfeit memory cards. So I looked on the page and they gave a great list of things to look for. Biggest giveaway that mine was not really from Sony:
    * There was no product information paper on the inside in several languages
    * The UPC had MSX-M8GST/X, the valid UPC does not have the "T/X" at the end, and the actual number under the UPC was for a 1GB memory card.
    * Obviously the bad performance of the card.

I talked with Amazon, and got the seller to refund my money and I ordered it directly from Amazon. When I looked at the two packages side by side, there was an obvious difference. On the card, the print was very faded (and incorrect) versus the legit card.

So the card itself is great, but buyer beware of the fakes. Here is a good article that talks about spotting fakes: [...]

  • Compatibility Issues left unmentioned

    By A2QLRFUOIN2PU6 on 2007-10-07
I bought this card hoping to be able to take longer movies and have more pics with my Sony DSC H2. I must say it was a major dissapointment to find out that this card is not compatible for the full 8gb with my camera. It does work, but only up to 4gb....so what's the point (may as well be listed as a 4gb card). I'm sure I'll get someone who feels the need to lecture me on how I should've read the manual, or it's my job to know what is compatible with what. I actually agree to a certain extent, but understand that I did try to do that and the info was just not available at the time. I did look around and didn't see anything telling me that it wouldn't work, after all I do own a Sony camera and this is Sony's proprietary Memory Stick we're talking about. Even the camera guy at Best Buy could not give me an answer other than, "well buy it and see if it works". He may not be that smart, but it is his job to know stuff like that and we couldn't look it up. If nothing else, some kind of warning shoud've been listed on the Amazon page and since there isn't, I guess my review serves that purpose.

I give it two stars because it works, but not as advertised. If Sony is so willing to take my money on a new Memory Stick card, then they should at least put some resources into how their new stuff will be compatible with the older lines. Again, my camera isn't the latest (H7 & H9), but it is the model that was superceded by them (H2 H5) so its still fairly new. Sony should've foreseen the problem and issued a firmware upgrade prior to the release of the card, and now I feel like I've been duped into being a product tester for them. Unfortunately, I took the camera on a trip with the new memory stick, but ran out of memory because it was too late when I found out the issue. I've called them and apparently they are emailing me back (see the discussion below for sony telephone numbers if you are in the same boat as me).

Hopefully they plan on issuing a firmware upgrade to allow people who have bought recent cameras to be able to use this memory card. I enjoy my H2, and do not want to "ugrade" to the H7 or H9. To be honest, from the reviews I've read and pics posted in various forums - I think the H2 is a better camera considering the 15x zoom is really only usable to the 12x and that it doesn't have the "fine/standard option". If they do not issue a firmware upgrade, then it's pretty obvious that there's a good chance Sony actually knew all this in advance and possibly even planned it as a way to sell more camera upgrades. I'm not going to go so far as say that, but we'll see how they respond to this problem.

I always thought Sony made a good product on the whole, but at some point the choices they continue to make, in regards to always trying to make a buck on new customers rather than also taking care of the ones they currently have, becomes a major negative for me when it comes time to decide what I'll buy next. I refuse to be a Sony customer for life just because it's what I've bought in the past. I just shelled out nearly half a grand for all the stuff I needed with that camera, if their business plan is really to try and get people to buy a new camera every year then I foresee myself going in other directions besides Sony.

  • Amazing Space

First of im not a kid! I just dont feal like joining Amazon at this momment in time.
I recently purchased it for my Sony Ericsson W850I and what can I say its amazing! I have already put 1564 tracks on the phone and its loaded with themes and I have taken 147 Photos with 2 million pixels and videos and I still have room for 367mb! It is made from the strongest plastics and it dosnt feal its going to snap in your hand! My w850 is now the ultimate phone! I have tested it with the psp and my wifes digital camera and it all works (she has a 1gb card, just wanted to make the revew more helpful!)
Make your peice of technical kit an amazing one.
    I strongly advice this product.

  • 8 Gigs is a lot of stuff

    By A35H3PLJU0QHXN on 2007-07-26
Verrryyy Niiiccee as Borat would say, this product rocks. 8 gigs is huge for a PSP or digital camera. I use mine for my PSP and I have 3 movies, about 250 songs, 1000 pictures, every demo game made and all of my game saves and downloaded content on the stick! It is excellent, however it is not quite as fast as my old 4 Gig Sandisk card, but you really only notice when opening the videos folder and while transferring from a PC. It is still fairly quick and I definitely recommend getting one if $200 sounds like a good deal to you!

  • Sony 8GB Duo ...
    By A2ZV16KBQ4B1XK on 2007-07-02
this is the third card i have purchased (also own the 1 and 2GB cards) and it has amazing storage capacity... using my sony @lpha camera i shoot in raw mode and some of you will know that each picture is easily over 10MB- with this card i shot approx 115 pics and still have room for over 400 more! its a great buy especially in my case taking lots of large file pictures-

THE ONLY BAD THING!!! ... currently it is not being read by the "Magic Gate" card reader in my sony vaio laptop... my guess is i may need to update something on my computer (drivers)... but my 1 and 2 GB cards work fine in the reader... so a little bit of convenience is lost as far is transferring files is concerned... other than that GREAT BUY i love mine-

any more questions? hit me up aim=bacard10h

  • Great card
    By A1WBIIZ5KF7D6H on 2007-11-27
I just bought this from buy-dot-com, and it is great. I use it with my new PSP slim, and it works without any issues. It is actually pretty fast at transfering files with the PSP connected by mini-usb cable to my computer, about 2 seconds per 5mb mp3. Presumeably it would be faster yet if you use a card reader. A 799+mb video file takes awhile, but still it's reasonable and doesn't bother me in the slightest. 8gb is a decent size for the PSP, and I wouldn't go smaller. I'll grab another one of these for my PSP until the 16gb finally come out and become affordable.

  • Awesome reliability and speed
    By A5JLAU2ARJ0BO on 2008-03-12
I have two of these 8GB babies and use one in my PSP Slim and the other in my Sony VAIO UX280P micro PC. On the PSP I loaded 5GB with movies and TV as well as my favorite MP3s, and leave over 2GB for game saves. The speed of the memory stick on both devices (the PSP and the UX280P) is quite good. (Sony also sells "high-speed" cards with red markings, which are about 50% faster but also 50% more expensive.) I don't know if this 8GB memory stick is ReadyBoost-capable on Vista; I have a 4GB version which supports ReadyBoost in my Sony FE-series laptop at work.

I own quite a number of Sony memory stick media and they've always been reliable. I've dropped them, stepped on them (actually my son did that more often), and they still work.

  • Fake memorys pro duo been sold in Amazon
    By A3PCUYHVWF3YWQ on 2008-09-28
I'm totally dissapointed, i bought two Sony MSXM8GS 8 GB Memory Stick PRO Duo (Retail Package)from two different sellers, and they are fake totally fake, i wrote to the sellers and they said that they can't do anithing about, this is so bad, that this people be allowed to sell in Amazon, since they are fooling people, and taking our money just that easy, i tought that since was Amazon, this things would not happen, i was wrong, now i'm afraid to buy any other thing, cause i don't know if i'm going to get what i bought.....

  • Big and Small
    By A158O716142L3 on 2007-07-16
With something as big and small as this is at the same time, you really can't go wrong. It meets any needs I have, including running inside of my Sony HDR-CX7 camcorder, which does require at least a certain speed for reading/writing data to the memory stick.

EDIT: As of July 20th, 2007, Amazon has the lowest price available...took them a bit to catch up, but wanted to update my review to indicate that I would definitely order this product from them and to reiterate my approval of the item.

  • Great Memory for the PSP
    By A3UF45VFYJZJOI on 2007-12-08
The 8GB is currently the largest memory stick for the Memory Stick PRO Duo. More than enough space for your games, music, movies and pics. This is a must have for anyone who wants to get more out of their camera or PSP. The price is a bit steep, but I'm sure the price will go down in a year or so. The cheapest I've bought this for was $122.00 new, as of Nov07.

  • Good buy
    By A1CBBPUR0MHGHC on 2008-02-13
Definitely a must have if you're on a long vacation. I was able to save many still photos on my video camera during my stay in Trinidad.

  • Great for PSP
    By A1NRU88EPP7XTN on 2008-03-03
This massive storage chip is great for the PSP. More than enough space for you MP3's and videos. I'm looking forward to the 16GB chip.

  • great, like all other memory sticks
    By AOEBYPYE87ON on 2008-03-06
I have 1G, 2G, 4G and 8G memory sticks (this one for a memory stick camcorder, no photo). All of them works great. This 8Gb works great with the 1080i sony HD-CX7 memory stick based camcorder. It gives me 60 minutes of 1080i video.

  • Huge amount of space
    By AIB5KSXP9I7BN on 2008-03-08
Using it in my psp. I put half of californication se1, the first four eps of the office and five movies and I still got room on it. Reads just fine in my psp and transfers just as fast as my sandisk 4 gig card. Without the movies I can put about 23 psp isos and a couple of homebrew games and apps... The isos range from a couple hundred megs to about 1.3 gigs. Anyways it holds a lot of stuff and it works in my psp. That's all I need.

  • Very Disappointed
    By A1PDV0B6IIVR9M on 2008-08-17
I had ordered two memory sticks. When I received them, I opened one of the two packages and found that this was not what I needed. I called the customer service number to get the proper way to return the product and to see if I needed a return authorization. I could barely understand what the girl was saying. I sent back both packages (1 was open and 1 was not) by Priority Mail, (USPS) which cost me over $9.00. I waited and waited and there was no credit to my credit card posted. I contacted both Amazon and the vendor. The vendor claims that they only received the one stick but two empty packages. I only opened one package the other was sealed. The confirmation from the USPS stated that they attempted to deliver the package twice before it was successful. According to Amazon if the mailing was by Priority, I should have been credited within two days. The package was received by Outlet on July 31, 2008 and I was not credited until August 15, 2008 and only after I contacted both Amazon and Outlet. Then I was only credited for one memory stick. Outlet claims they received only one back. I will never deal with this company again, in my opinion I believe I was ripped off. Not a pleasant experience!

  • Best memory stick for the psp!!!
    By A25B0E98K8WAH7 on 2007-10-21
Okay, the Sony 8GB memory stick (MSX-M8GS) is fantastic, period. It not only works on the PSP, but on anything that uses Pro Duo, which includes cameras and so forth. It even comes with an adapter for devices that use the old Duo sticks.

What can you do with 8GB? Well you can hold a bunch of music files, photos, movies. I can watch whole seasons of my favorite shows, no joke. I had watched all of victory Gundam and still had enough room for more, and victory Gundam has around 30 episodes. Imagine watching all of the first season of heroes on your psp without changing sticks, sweet no?

I would only recommend this to anyone who feels that a two and four gig memory stick is two small or someone who wants a whole season of a tv show on their psp. A bit pricey, but well worth it.

  • What a rip off.... (read my story to find out how)
    By ABLG03M8Y4FAG on 2007-11-12
I saw it online and bought it. I was very anxious for my new 8gb to come in the mail. When it came in, I took it to my friend; so that he can add games on my Psp. While I'm day dreaming of what games I will play, he called me with the terrible news that I have just been ripped off. All along it was a 4gb posing as an 8gb. For anyone else who have fallen victim as I have, please call the company first and tell them that you don't want to be ripped off. I'm going to go and call them now. I was really looking forward to playing my new games. :0(

  • Massive Picture Storage with the Sony 8GB Memory Stick
    By ARLDDJPGF8LED on 2007-11-30
With a 10 megapixel Sony DSC-R1 Camera I take over 1600 pictures on this memory stick. That was enough to cover my 8 day vacation to Disney World, no need to drag along my laptop to download the pictures anymore. Last time we went on vacation I filled my 4GB memory stick and had to offload the pics onto my laptop. I know, I take a lot of pictures.
At a great price too!! Thanks Amazon

  • awesome storage....but
    By A1WTOHZV2DOFBR on 2007-12-22
i recently purchased this 8gb card from amazon. i love it. the card is awesome, as long as you get a real one. luckily i did. i rated 5 stars but it's more like 4.5 stars.

i use it with my psp slim. totally compatible. my only gripe is that it only has 7600mb storage not actually 8000mb. 400mb seems a bit much to not have available. but oh well. what really bugged my is that my favorite game, street fighter alpha 3 max does not recognize the card. it tells me i need to insert a card at least 250mb. all my other games (godfather mob wars, mortal kombat unchained, namco museum) dont have a problem. the card is magic gate supported. i dont know if its my game or what, i haven't came across anyone else complaining about this. but other that that i recoment

  • Exactly what you would expect.
    By A34FZYRELZI54F on 2007-12-29
It's a first party memory card. It worked fine for me in my PSP slim. It comes with an adapter so that you can use it in devices that only accept full-size Memory Sticks. However, since I was using it in a PSP, I didn't get to try the adapter.

  • Works as advertised.
    By A4T9VPNZZ9D9V on 2008-01-07
Nothing fancy about this product, but it holds over an hour of high-definition video on my new camcorder. Upload speed is excellent, only takes a few minutes to upload the whole thing to my laptop. That's really all I was looking for.

  • Very Good.
    By A1BVFDX7BHLN0U on 2008-01-25
Pros: Big space! 8GB is wonderful! The transfer speed is good and feels like a good build for such a small thing.

Cons: Just some IF cons only. IF its too pricey for you. IF you hate Sony (although I still recommend this card - see below). IF your PRODUCT does NOT support this card/size - please RESEARCH :)

Alright, I hate Sony, I admit it! However, they can make a quality product and I say they have here - as a general user, not an expert. There are many generic brands and FAKE brands that just don't perform as well - especially with MagicGate and compatibility. These will even claim to be Sony with convincing packaging to boot. I highly recommend you research before you buy and buy through a trustworthy seller (I went with Amazon.com itself). Lastly, if you Google this exact phrase (WITH quotes), you should find a very helpful guide: "detailed guide to fake memory sticks".

  • memory
    By A2I8CNMPCWACS6 on 2008-02-18
its a memory card, it stores things. the only complaint that i have is that it's not exactly 8 GB, kind of a bummer, but hey, you can still fit thousands of mp3's on it

  • JUNK
    By A1H0NIFR9B576O on 2008-05-08
dont buy this 8 gb memory stick ! at least not from these people, was no good and i could not get them to return my e-mail's so i threw the piece of crap in the trash ! i gave about 80 or 90 bucks for it , i think alot of people are coming over to amazon.com with ther junk from e-bay i would never buy anything from e-bay again because we have got burnt there several times now it seems like the same song and dance here !
oh and no help from sony either even tho it was a brand new sony card.

  • Horrible
    By AZKA5064EHBGG on 2008-08-19
Doesn't work with my PSP, makes it freeze. I have another 8GB stick that works but is slow, this was supposed to fix that....Also this was supposed to be for a brand new stick, this came loose in something that looked like a sandwich bag. Not happy with this purchase at all. Oh, and then when I reply back to that company that sold it to me to try and get some resolution, they pawn me off to someone else....very frustrating....will definatley thing twice before buying through Amazon or it affilates again....

  • It was a counterfeit
    By AQWWJUPDAE3II on 2008-10-24
I was sent a counterfeit 8GB memory stick. It showed 8GB of memory, but only 500MB of it worked. Everything that was stored on over that was corrupted. I filed a claim with Amazon and got my money back. Don't buy from the Gadget Store.

  • 8 GB -- Cool!!
    By on 2007-03-23
This 8gb memory stick pro duo is way cool! I love it! Actually, I don't own it yet... I'm just a kid so I'm saving up my allowance and milk money for it so I can put tons of my favorite songs from Britney Spears and Limp Bizkit and other cool stuff on it! I'll post another review when I get, but I already know it's going to be really awesome.

  • Good, but expensive.
    By A1CT6P8JAMUBU5 on 2007-11-21
The product is good, do what is expected, but considering its price is better buying 2 cards of 4G.

  • Thumbs Up - highly recommended!!!
    By A1TVYTPJ8Y266B on 2007-11-30
I own a Sony H9 and had bought this Memory Stick to be able to shoot longer videos and take more pixs, 1st - I received the product as promised, in original packaging; 2nd - made very well, not flimsy; 3rd - was well wrapped for delivery; 4th - was delivered on time as promised... I've shot 4 30min videos and have lots of room to spare, thumbs up, highly recommend the product and the seller!!!
