  • does exactly what you'd expect.

    By A2LTE644LML76D on 2007-05-12
I use this in a commercial van because I thought it would be easier to reach than a window mount. I feel I made the right choice. Both work very well. I don't notice any rattle & the permanent adhesive disk holds onto the vinyl dashtop tightly. I also like that I can leave the vehicle charger attached to the mount & the GPS unit snaps on and off very easily by pressing a button on the mount. This mount will keep the unit charged just like the window mount that comes with the unit as long as the power cord is attached. By the way, the mount the comes with the Nuvi can also be used as a dash mount, although I never tried it.

  • Requires Friction/Beanbag Mount

    By AK5LDHACCGWL9 on 2007-02-06
I purchased this along with the friction mount and another DC adapter so that I could move my Nuvi 660 between cars and also take it with me on trips to use in rental cars. It has met all of my expectations. I recently took the combination to Florida and did not need a map at all during my 10 day stay that included extensive travel around the mid part of the state (Kennedy, Orlando, and Tampa areas).

  • Sticks Like Super Glue

    By A36MDL9RQGO7EN on 2007-11-12
I purchased this for permanent mount on my Jeep Grand Cherokee. There are two different kind of stickies in the package. One did not work very well probably for a different kind of dash material but the 2nd sticky a black tar material is increadible. Its on rock solid and my Garmin GPS stays put. Ive been offroad, rock, creeks, logs, you name it this mount stays put and is rock solid....Just make sure you try both adhesive pads if one does not work properly.

  • As Advertised

    By AK3PEM4FHBW5 on 2007-06-11
The mount works great. I am still using the temporary sticky pad that came with it as it seemed secure enough. No problems so far.

  • Great Product!

    By A293SRU8ZPRRR0 on 2007-05-13
I needed this after my Nuvi 660 Suction Cup Mount kept failing. This Automotive Mount mated perfectly to the Garmin Bean Bag and stabilized my Nuvi 660 just fine. An added advantage was it allows the Nuvi 660 to move closer for viewing. If you do not like a suction cup mount, this is the way to go.

  • A must have.
    By A3GVIOO5KL95BT on 2007-05-30
This Mount used with the Portable Friction Mount (Sold Separately) is perfect for multiple car households. It fits on the dash of my Ford F350 when I am pulling my fifthwheel on vacations and also in my VW New Beetle for my daily commuting.

  • Beware Sticky Situation
    By A3KO7H8I1THBO2 on 2007-07-22
I recently purchased three of these stands to place in our three family vehicles. The mount comes with two adhesive strips a permanent strip, and a temporary strip. The temporary adhesive didn't last 24 hours, and I didn't want to commit to mounting the base with a permanent adhesive that may prove difficult to remove, or cause damage to the dashboard. Therefore, I purchased an industrial strength, heavy duty ashesive velcro to apply the mount. The velcro allowed excessive movement in the GPS while entering data, and ultimately didn't hold. I, therefore, purchased double sticky sided duck tape that is rated at holding up to 5 lbs., and that didn't hold. It appears that heat coming through the windshield, and the weight of the nuvi acting on one side of the mount only, proves to be too much of a match for anything less than the permanent adhesive. I live in Virginia and the temperatures here has been 99 plus degrees these past few days, so the temperature inside the vehicle may have reached 120 to 140 degrees. Meeting the environmental demands inside the car is just a lot to ask of a temporary adhesive, so.......unless your ready to commit to a permanent installation of the mount on your car's dashboard this might not be the way to go.

  • I threw half away
    By A26H8WG90Q00K2 on 2007-03-08
It's a shame that Garmin won't allow you to buy the individual components in case something gets lost.

I had to buy the whole mount just because I needed the rod connecting the base to the Nuvi 'holder' for the portable friction mount.

  • Not car surface friendly
    By A1Z1FCCYTAOWB1 on 2007-08-06
Unfortunately this product will not stick on the dashboard of a Mini Cooper for two reasons.
1 ) the dashboard is curved enough that it presents a problem for the flat mounting surface
    2) the material surface of the dashboard is faux leather, so the bumps and grooves allow too much air
underneath the sticky pad. So I never got it to stick.

I ended up using the glass mount, and this seems to work fine for now

  • Nuvi 660 mount (holder)
    By A2JD6T5J5ZYP8W on 2007-10-02
This product is designed to stick PERMANENTLY to a dashboard. It is not removable, so I will never be able to use it because my windows will be smashed regularly by thieves who believe that the Nuvi 660 is somewhere in the car!

  • Garmin Permanent Mount
    By APXWGWR0WQKPP on 2007-09-02
It works well, but the spring loaded lock mech. allows the unit to vibrate a bit more than with the suction cup mount. (On the other hand, we have had problems with the suction mount sticking so hard to our windshield that rubber is torn off when removed. We believe that the suction part is not UV tolerant.)

  • Easy to Mounting Device Enhances Use
    By A1QMK6PGCNC8IV on 2007-05-12
This mount and the bean bag accessory is much easier to use than the windshield suction device that comes with the Nuvi. This was the prefered mounting system that came with former Garmin models. So I am glad that it is available for purchase, but I would have prefered to have that choice upon orginal purchase of the Nuvi.

  • My Nuvi 660 Sometimes Loses Its Mind
    By A3V3YJ82HPTK2M on 2007-07-27
We bought both the Garmin Nuvi 660 and an extra automotive mount, to facilitate easy transfer between our two cars. The mount seems to work just fine. But the Nuvi has some odd habits.

Sometimes the Nuvi seems to spontaneously lose track of parts of its map overlays. You'll be driving along with no destination entered in the unit and the local street net displayed... and suddenly the road you know you're driving on, just up and disappears from the screen. Other features of the map are still there (e.g. a nearby major highway, local streams, etc). You have to turn off the unit itself, before it recovers its full knowledge of local civilization features.

We also learned that Americans may not wish to use the British voice programs with the Nuvi. We live close to a US State line. We found out the hard way that the Nuvi looks for addresses organized by the nearest "County" - not by US State - when the British voice is selected. The manual did not make this clear when I read up, trying to figure out what was wrong.

Finally, when we are doing a long trip and have decided to take a different route from the one calculated by the unit, it seems unable to recompute the most efficient route when starting in the direction we've chosen. It keeps on trying to force us to turn around and use the original route. I wish there was a feature for forcing the re-compute to look for alternate routes starting from the line of march just selected.

On the whole we're satisfied with the features of the Nuvi and its mounts. We're just hoping that Garmin gets serious about either bug fixes, or a more intuitive users' guide and display selection menu.

  • Didn't stick
    By A1JYN9NBPOJ2VN on 2007-09-03
I brought this to use my Nuvi in a second car. The mounting comes with two types of sticky pad. The first did not hold the mount firmly on the dash at all, it just flopped over after a few yards of driving. The second one comes with so many "health warnings" about it being non-removable (eg even when you see the car) that I dare not use try it. Pretty disappointing.

  • Auto mount
    By A3AU7YECZIBS81 on 2007-05-14
I bought this because I needed it to go with the Garmin portable friction mount. This automotive mount works great with the friction mount. No complaints.

  • Nuvi 660 Dashboard Mount
    By A3NOUKFR4XF0EL on 2007-07-12
My only issue with this product is that, if you do not wish to permanently attach it to the dashboard, eventually the adhesive pad doesn't hold well. It would be nice if there were replacement disks for the temporary mount.

  • wouldn't stick
    By A2S5CK09O47PW6 on 2007-09-22
I don't know whether it is my car, or the device, but it would not adhere to my dash. I followed the directions and waiting over 24 hrs before attaching the nuvi, but within 8 hrs it detached.

  • NICE TO ANCHOR THE NUVI
    By A2KP65JS3YY5VL on 2007-09-05
It is a nice mount. Unfortuanatly the Nuvi is still easy to remove. Good if you want to take it in and out of the car, not so good if you would like to just leave it and forget it.

  • could be better
    By AB9O6T3GPT8JT on 2007-09-10
This unit would have been a lot better if it would of come with some way to mount it. There wasn't any double sided tape or mounting holes. The angle needed to get the GPS be be level was not available by its design. Live and learn.

  • Why I don't need one
    By A3TO5XV9W5818B on 2007-10-30
I usually drive alone and when parking often remove my 660 and drop
it in the passenger floorboard to avoid broken glass by thieves. Sometimes I haven't always remembered to reattach it to the windshield and found that it works fine from the floorboard or passenger seat. Yes, I do have a large windshield that slants well over the dash so it may not work for everyone but it works for me and on the seat it's easier for
my short arm to reach the screen.

  • Best thing for a Road Trip
    By A2S90ZJWOIVKW5 on 2007-07-30
I purchased my nuvi 660 three days before a road trip "Down East". Fantastic -- never lost once and found each and every B&B on the way. . .You just put it in your rental car and save $200+

  • Excellent Item
    By A1RR44E5O28W6H on 2007-08-25
This is a permanent solution to fix your navigator in your car. This is good till the life of your car. I have tried all different kinds of mounts but it all failed. This one can be fixed temporarily or permanently on your dashboard. Infact purchased a second one for my other car. Great item. Must buy!

  • Garmin Automotive Mount for Nuvi 660

Simple and Effective. Needs only to have more Temporary and Permanent tapes for tranferring to other vehicles.

  • Excellent!
    By A1D54OZSHHBAIA on 2007-10-17
I got this so my wife could use are Garmin GPS in her rental car. She travels every month by rental car and I wanted an extra mount she could take with her in the car. It works great and seems to work just as good as the expensive original manufacturer ones.

    I recommend this to anyone.

  • garmin mount
    By ALLAFZR35Q6RQ on 2007-12-02
Unfortunately the mount arrived before the unit and when the GPS unit arrived, it included a holder which was eithr not noted or missed in the advertising. No rating-not needed but opened package so it sits in a drawer

  • Problem Sticking to Dash
    By A1JGPXG6M1128Y on 2008-02-13
The mount will not stick to the dash in my Cadillac SRX. The dash is too grained. The friction mount should work better in holding the Garmin 660.

  • Garmin 660 Review
    By A13KRPO3E645ON on 2008-02-19
I purchased the nuvi 660 for Christmass. First time owner and love it.
I checked many reviews and went with the Garmin.

The 660 suites my needs best. The only reason I went with 4 stars is because of "location rot" or out of date locations, new roads, new locations and so on (tough to keep up with.) You can easily add a location not in the registery by zooming in (once you are there or a place you want to come back to) with a touch of the screen (press your icon car truck ect) label the location and save, it's that easy. Just remember a street number entry on the first screen and then the street or location entry on the next screen.

That being said the price keeps going down fast.

The big screen is great and easy to read day or night, plus you can switch from 3-D to 2-D just touching the screen. The menus are easy to follow with or without the instructions (I recomend using the instructions on line so you don't miss any features availiable.)

It's hard to miss a turn or exit on the expressway with three sets of instructions first you get the voise instruction, next the visual map with highlights and arrow and third with the written turns on the top of the monotor with optional turn by turn with a touch of the lower RH corner screen prompt if needed prior to the trip. You get bonis information with a touch of the LH lower screen with speed, distance, ETA and more.

When the voice instructions are not followed or you somehow miss your turn the NUVI corrects or recalculates and puts you on track in seconds inspite of yourself, it's amazing. You can update your maps as needed on line.

You can add a memory card for personal picture albums.

You get Bluetooth for hands free operation sending phone calls or receiving calls, your cell phone address book is automatically added to the 660 with a simple touch of the screen (once enabled.)

I recomend the on dash (WEIGHTED movable ) attachment option so you can use the Nuvi in any car, yours or a friend even a work vehicle.

I havent used the MP3 player or the book features. I havent used the subscription for trafic (with the vehicle radio) as I just retired and havent needed it.

A person could go on and on with the features the 660 has and optional maps availiable for water or travel over seas. Oh ya, it will even locate where you parked you vehicle should you forget, don't forget to take the Nuvi with you, as it will be gone should you leave it on the dash. Nuff said.

  • Garmin auto mount
    By A3ESVWEUR4T3G3 on 2008-03-01
This was a good bargain but turned out to be useless to me. I have a 2000 Honda Accord which has a plastic dash so this product would not stick to it. I also have a 2002 Jeep Liberty which doesn't have a lot of dash room so it didn't fit. However I was able to buy an extra window suction cup and combined it with the parts from my dash mount to make it work.

  • Item received with missing components
    By AQ4K2PPDV7JOP on 2007-11-10
Item was returned because of missing parts (adhesive plates). Also, this item seemed overpriced for the quality. Ordered suction cup model for a few dollars more. So far, it's working very well.

  • Garmin Nuvi 660
    By A3LESZG1BHWTZ9 on 2007-12-28
The actual GPS unit would be ok but doesn't work long without a car charger. The car charger is a piece of junk and it fell apart the first time we used it. As of now the GPS is totally unusable. The 110v charger will charge the unit, but the charge lasted about 1/2 hour in the car. I don't need GPS to do a 1/2 hour trip.
