Now in paperback: the food that fuels the FDNY-from a firefighter who is also an award-winning chef.
Shopping, preparing food, and eating together builds a unique camaraderie among firefighters-and provides a chance to blow off some steam when not saving lives. Now, trained chef and firefighter Keith Young takes that ritual to a whole new level. Bringing his culinary expertise to the firehouse, he has created recipes that satisfy the hunger in these everyday heroes-without scrimping on taste. His award-winning dishes have made meals at FDNY Ladder-156 in Brooklyn an event in themselves, and now readers can recreate the experience in their own homes.

Great tasting recipes, that are easy to prepare By A1KXONFPU2XQ5K on 2003-12-30
Firehouse Chef Keith Young puts together a fantastic cookbook. This cookbook is packed with delicious recipes, some of my favorites have been the Garlic Bread, Homemade Hummus, Pulled Pork with Jack and Coke BBQ Sauce. Honestly this book really combines the best elements of a hometown cookbook with stories, anecdotes, and pictures of the New York Firefighters along with some of the recipes that have gone over very well with the men who so often fight for our lives.I love how this book is laid out, distinct sections on appetizers, side dishes, main dishes, each recipe has its own page, so they are easy to read. The recipes are easy to follow, and don't leave you trying to interpret difficult instructions. I would highly recommend this book to anyone trying to broaden out their cooking repitoire, or if you have a special place in your heart for the New York Firefighters.

I have met and tasted Keith's cooking way before he became such a success as a Firehouse Chef. His cooking was excellent then, and without question, his cooking has excelled since then. This book is a must, for your own "firehouse". (BELL) Come and get it! Its Chow Time!
- 5 star cookbook

This book is GREAT! I'm ordering it for everyone on my Christmas list. I think it's great that 25% of the net proceeds are going to benefit the families of members who have died in non line of duty as active members of the FDNY. How wonderful it would be if we can all help to raise One Million dollars for this cause!

This cookbook is meant for just about anyone. Keith makes it simple for the average guy (or gal) to cook, while sharing wonderful, poignant stories about life in the firehouse. I recommend the meatballs!

Award-winning chef Keith Young presents recipes that feed firefighters of New York, in Cooking With The Firehouse Chef. From Garlic Bread with Gorgonzola Cream Sauce; Butternut Bisque; Steak Salad; and Parmesan-Crusted Pork Chops; to Pan-Seared Tuna; Broccoli and Corn Succotash; Grandma's Irish Soda Bread; and John Sineno's Famous No-Bake Rice Pudding, easily prepared dishes with expressive taste fill the pages of this working man's recipe collection, which is embellished with black-and-white photographs and narrative asides concerning the firefighters who daily dedicate their lives to their home city's protection.
