Video Gold, Vol. Ix$9.27

Twenty years' worth of country superstar Reba McEntire's engaging music videos are included on Reba: Video Gold 1. The first thing that stands out is their consistent production quality. There isn't a single video from, say, the 1980s--an era that left a lot of artists with embarrassing promotional artifacts--in this collection, beginning with the 1986 "Whoever’s In New England," which casts McEntire as a stay-at-home wife whose busy husband may be cheating on her during business trips. "Sunday Kind of Love" takes a very different approach, setting its pop ballad in a World War II ballroom while, elsewhere, a wounded husband returns home from the war. Another unexpected setting accompanies McEntire’s cover of Don Everly’s "Cathy’s Clown," in which the song’s hard questions about a jilted man are transferred to the Wild West. "Fancy" is the biggest cliché in this anthology, in which Reba plays a big star returning to her rustic roots, while "Is There Life Out There" finds her portraying a beleaguered waitress trying to go to school and be a devoted wife and mother all at once. (Huey Lewis plays her spouse.)

"Does He Love You," a duet with Linda Davis, is a fairly tortured story of a man in love with both of the women singing the song. It feels silly, but the whole thing is ultimately played for a laugh. (Rob Reiner, of all people, makes a little cameo appearance.) "Why Haven't I Heard from You" is the most fun video here, a sassy musical set in a Grecian beauty parlor; McEntire’s appealing but comically rubber face proves a lot of fun. "If You See Him/If You See Her," a duet with Brooks and Dunn, is a very satisfying performance with a little story that finds Kix Brooks playing a mutual friend to both ex-lovers Ronnie Dunn and McEntire. Things take a sentimental turn toward the end with McEntire’s cover of Kenny Rogers' "Sweet Music Man," as well as "What Do You Say" (a maudlin story of a mom dying of cancer) and "He Gets That from Me" (the story of a mother and son getting by after the death of the family patriarch). --Tom Keogh MPN: DB0006913D - UPC: 602498581766

  • The best of the country queen FINALLY on DVD

    By A1JLC26PMGW5ZS on 2006-11-22
But before you get rid of your old Reba videos on VHS, know that this DVD does not have Reba's spoken introductions or the background stories that the various VHS collections did. Instead we have a straightforward presentation of 18 of the great lady's music videos, and the 18 on Volume I are:

    1. Whoever's In New England
    2. The Last One To Know
    3. Sunday Kind Of Love
    4. Cathy's Clown
    5. Rumor Has It
    6. Fancy
    7. Is There Life Out There
    8. Does He Love You
    9. Why Haven't I Heard From You
    10. And Still
    11. Starting Over Again
    12. What If?
    13. If You See Him / If You See Her
    14. What Do You Say
    15. I'll Be
    16. Sweet Music Man
    17. He Gets That From Me
    18. You're Gonna Be

I'd have preferred to have the music videos spread out chronologically over both volumes (e.g. Volume One would have covered the 1980s and early 1990s, and Volume Two would pick up from there) but I'm so glad these are finally on DVD that I won't complain!

  • Simply the BEST in country music videos!

    By A3SVSI4PTC4QW1 on 2006-11-21
Reba McEntire has been called the Queen of Country Music and the videos on this collection proove why! She is an amazing vocalist and she uses her videos to display the emotion in each song. She is the video pioneer in country music and as a young artist she understood the importance of the music video. It was, and still is, the perfect way for the artist to give the fans something extra. Reba has always given her fans the best and releasing her videos is the best way to show your fans how much you love them! Thanks Reba!

  • Awesome collection of videos!

What a great collection! Finally, all of the REBA videos together! There will never be another REBA, and this video collection will be timeless!

  • It's about time!

I am realy glad that there are finally some DVD's out (2!) with all of Reba McEntire's videos. In my opinion, Reba really revolutionized videos in the country music world. Reba really did things in her videos and told stories. They are like mini movies, and tell a story. Her videos really transform the songs into something more, and really touch you in some way. On this disc my favorite videos are What Do You Say, And Still, You're Gonna be, He Gets That From me, Is There Life Out There, and many others. Worth it for any Reba fan!

  • The video portrays the songs, and yet it surprises you

    By AG1RZK951HK05 on 2006-11-25
I am a True Reba McEntire Fan, I know this because of the way her songs touch my heart.

The videos seems to capture the essence of each song, the story telling the costumes the dancing the expression you feel it.

She is vibrant, good-humored, intelligent, and this incredible woman that teaches us a thing or two just by watching the music video.

I loved it. I haven't seen a lot of the videos, but they were all good.
This video dvd is very much worth your money, if of course you love REBA, like I do.

  • Video Gold more like bronze!
    By A3KMCJIP1OL4FK on 2007-02-21
I love Reba and her music, but this DVD is lacking in the quality department. This is so unlike Reba to allow a product of this quality get out to the public. The music and the video aren't in synch. Her mouth moves, and then the words come out. I sent the first one back, but the next one was the same way. So I'm guessing they are all like that. I kept it because I wanted it bad enough. But to the average person, don't bother.

  • Simply the Best
    By A2H0U6H9DV4W7O on 2007-03-18
I finally got around to buying both DVD's. It matters not to me whether a particular song is classifed as country, rock, folk, pop, or whatever. All I know is that Reba McEntire moves, inspires, and delights me as no other singer
of our generation. A beautiful voice and a heart so kind you can feel it across a continent. I've enjoyed great music videos since the Beatles' Paperback Rider/Rain in 1966. Reba is right up there with the very best.

  • Superb

I really liked this Video Gold Volume 1 alot and enjoyed all the songs and videos.

  • Reba is really "Number One"
    By AJQPKO2RTIEAJ on 2007-02-08
I bought the two new "Gold" DVDs from Reba McEntire. For years the only way to have the videos "professionally" was a VHS-Tape from England, which was hard to come by and you had to have the proper player to view it. Now all her videos are finally available on DVD. The minute I discovered this, I ordered both from Amazon.com and had the items shortly at my doorstep (in Berlin, Germany!). Two thumbs up for Reba and for Amazon.com! Great product and great price!

  • What a Waste!
    By ABU13T846HH3H on 2007-02-10
I bought this collection hoping it would be good...it's the same old junk they've been playing on CMT. Reba's music videos are OKAY, nothing great, and I figured that they would be specially edited or something for this DVD...but they aren't. Very disappointed. Waste of money. Reba can't sing worth beans! Her voice sounds terrible! Reba needs to get off her a** and get a REAL job instead of mooching off of these hard working country fans. Get a life REBA!

  • Reba's Gold, Vol. 1
    By A2MC853XBJTYWV on 2007-02-11
Alot of Reba's songs are so moving to me I feel her presents as if she were singing the songs to me.

  • Excellent Video Collection
    By A31KME87UQ8I1M on 2007-03-09
When I first got the DVD I was confused by the way the sleeve was. I still am not sure why they have it upsidedown/backwards but it looks good.

  • Great purchase! Classic Reba! Love it!
    By A1U4OLV4IZCUAQ on 2007-03-15
I purchased both I & II and love them both! I was a true Reba fan before viewing these DVDs and now I love her even more! The videos are so fun to watch and see her transition from this young, beautiful, amazing entertainer to this gorgeous kind woman who still entertains as well as she did decades ago. The DVD's have every great Reba song, you will love all of them! I highly recommend this DVD set for any Reba fan. It is a great addition to any collection and I just can't get enough of them. What a great buy!

I have to say that I absolutely loved the video for "Sweet Music Man," amongst all of the other amazing videos on this disc. It is worth your money to purchase the disc and I assure that you will not regret buying it. Hope you all enjoy it as much as I did.

  • Reba Gold DVD Vol 1 & 2
    By A3GMYGCMC09AT3 on 2007-09-01
Well what can I say other than I haven't stopped playing these 2 DVD's since I got them. Has brought real meaning to the songs on Reba's albums. I wished there were more of Reba's DVD's. If your a fan of Reba these 2 DVD's are a must have as part of your Reba Collection. Excellent sound quality & excellent production. Just the sort of standard you'd expect from Reba!
If your not a Reba fan but like country music then I'd highly recommend you buy either if not both of these DVD's. Well worth every penny!

  • Touching, inspiring, funny, and always entertaining
    By A2Z60PVKWFO3SW on 2008-01-18
Video Gold I and II have it all, from mournful ballads to upbeat motivational songs. I am just so impressed by the depth and range of this woman's artistry. She's just a joy to watch, and I've loved seeing how her music and videos have evolved over the years (it is tremendously fun to try and date each video based on Reba's hair and clothing). Also included are some wonderful live concert videos.

Reba McEntire has been famous over half my life, and I foolishly dismissed her decades ago when I was in high school and so not interested in country music (I was into U2, REM, the Police, 10,000 Maniacs - remember them?). But now I have endless respect for her talent and creativity, for all of her projects over the last few years (Reba TV show, South Pacific concert, her CDs, etc...), for her boundless energy, and for the way she just keeps getting better and better. I am looking forward to whatever her next project is.

I pretty much consider the purchase of these DVDs a no-brainer. Yes you can watch them on YouTube, but the quality is much better on the DVDs and my television screen is still much larger and more satisfying than my computer monitor. Plus each DVD contains 18 videos, which is a great value.

So whether you are a new fan like me, or a long time die-hard fan, you are bound to enjoy these DVDs tremendously.

  • Must have for any Reba fan!
    By A2OIPLHBQUKKYK on 2008-03-08
I own Video Gold Volume 1 and 2 and they are both absuletly wonderful. I'm so glad that she decided to put all of her video hits on two great dvd's. If you haven't seen either of them, please do!

  • Must have for EVERY Reba fan!
    By A37MP4QWC2ZLEE on 2008-05-31
I waited a long time as a huge Reba fan for a DVD compilation of her music videos. Her music videos have long been my favorite part of her music. She makes the best videos around and they only get better over time.

If you are a Reba fan, every day or passing, or know one you are shopping for, this and her other video DVD, Video Gold II, will not disappoint. The price is great for such a wonderful enjoyable experience.

If you are a fan of Reba's acting, might I suggest you check out the "Reba" show DVDs? What great gifts for all of us Reba lovers!
