Best Sleep Bra for Nursing Moms By A1JNSKJON8JAGJ on 2007-12-14
The Medela Sleep Bra is by far the most comfortable sleep bra I have purchased and I have purchased many. Unfortunately it is difficult to know what will work best for you without trying every nursing bra out there.
The back is in an easy to wear racerback style with no clasps to mess with or lay on uncomfortably at night when you are trying to sleep. You just pull it over your head to put it on. The cups are draw back style so when you are up in the middle of the night to nurse your little one you don't have to fuss with clasps.
As some reviewers have mentioned, the fabric is thin, but I like that feature of this bra. It is 95% cotton with 5% spandex for that stretch we all need at times. You can put nursing pads in the cups, but I find them uncomfortable so I prefer to go without. If I get a little leakage during the night, it dries fairly quickly.
The sizing is on the small side, so if you are on a border size, I would order up. I'm a 38B and purchased the Medium at first. This one seemed too small. I exchanged for a Large and I'm much happier. In fact, I would say it is perfect. The manufacturers sizing chart isn't currently available on this page so I'll list it here.
32-34 A, B, & C = Small
36-38B, 36C, 32-34D, 34DD = Medium
40B, 3-40C, 36-38D, 36DD = Large
42B, 42C, 40D, 38-40DD = Extra Large

This is an awesome bra. Extremely comfortable. Easy to sleep in. I forget I have it on sometimes. I am currently a size 40C and size large fits me very comfortably. I also got an XL because in a couple of months, once a become a little more pregnant, the large won't fit anymore.
Another nice thing about this bra is that it actually keep your "ladies" separated. No uni-boob here.
The back is a "sports bra" style so the straps will not fall off your shoulders. No hooks in the back, very easy to put on and pull over your head. The back will not scrunch up when you put it on.
This doesn't add enough support to wear out and about. But it does give you enough support at home.
I'm sorry I didn't find this bra when I had my first baby. I struggled with other bras, from Motherhood Maternity; not anymore! This is definitely a great buy.
Sleep bras are a must, and this is a great, affordable one By AWJBO5XGIW8ZS on 2008-03-21
With my first baby, I hadn't really heard of sleep bras. At the beginning, when I was leaking and need to wear nursing pads 24/7, I just slept in my regular nursing bra. It wasn't terribly comfortable, and my top breast tended to "fall out the side," but I didn't really know there was another option. Once I was done with leaking at about 4 months, I just stopped wearing a bra to bed.
But when I was pregnant with my second daughter, I read that wearing a supportive bra round the clock while nursing can really help to minimize sagging later on. Now I am not overly vain, but still this appealed to me. So I went to Medela, because they were my favorite regular nursing bra, and I wasn't disappointed.
The Medela bra is a very thin, cotton and spandex, material. It is tagless (although the printed info on the back doesn't last more than a couple washings, so be sure to remember the washing instructions!). It is a pullover style with a racerback style and elastic around all the edges (neckline and armholes) for a really nice fit. It holds everything in comfortably, but is really easy access for sleepy moms and babies! It also does a great job at a uniform fit, without creating pressure points on the breast that can lead to plugged ducts and mastitis.
After several washes it was starting to seem a little more worn out than I expected, so I stopped putting it in the dryer and that seemed to improve. (In general, items with spandex should not go in the dryer to extend their life.) Because it's thin, it dries really fast hung on a chair. I wash them in a lingerie bag to keep things from getting tangled in them and stretching them out.
I have three sleep bras, which allows me to generally have one in use, one in the wash and one on backup for when the baby hits me with a large spit-up or surprise vomit during cold season!
What was a big surprise to me was how often I also wear them outside the house. They have a nicer line than a traditional pull-down panel, so I prefer them under thinner shirts. And while they won't contain any kind of major leaking, they can absorb spare drops of milk, and provide just enough pressure to contain the side the baby isn't nursing on (after the first few months go by). I especially like wearing them under turtlenecks or bulkier clothes because they are easy to pull aside without having to fish around under my clothes for clips and hooks. They are also great when baby is teething or clingy, so you don't feel like you are clipping and unclipping your bra all day long!
My one caveat would be for larger-breasted women. I am only about 36C while nursing, and I am not sure they would provide enough support for day wear, for women who are much larger. I think they would still be fine for nighttime wear. For daytime, larger-breasted women might want a bra without spandex to provide a more reliable line underneath clothing.
Having not had them for my first baby, and purchasing them for my second, I would say that for the price, sleep bras are a worthwhile investment for comfort and convenience. I believe that whatever makes nursing easier, makes it more likely to be successful and last longer, and the Medela Sleep bra definitely fits the bill for me.
BEST maternity / nursing bra for sleep! By A24OILJLIN9TXK on 2007-05-20
I tried 4 different brands of nursing bras to sleep in (including two expensive ones), and this is the ONLY one I use! It is very comfortable and I sleep in it every night. It helps keep nursing pads in place when you need them, then it just helps for comfort after you no longer need the pads. It is very easy to push aside with one hand to nurse the baby, too. I highly recommend this!
Perfect By A3MHLU12F30K28 on 2007-06-21
I'm pretty fussy about bras. I appreciated them even less since getting pregnant, but oh well. Which is why I was so happy to find this bra for nursing and when I sleep. I was surpised to find how comfortable, yet supportive it was. This is why I'm buying a second one.
- Very thin fabric...disappointing
     By A1392QK5974UID on 2007-11-08
They definitely could've gone with a more quality fabric on this one. Don't know how many washes it will take before shredding. I think it's more like worth $8.00. I wouldn't buy it again. But I give it an 'A' for comfort. By the way, I've found that with Medela sleep bras, you have to go one size up. I am a 36D (DD when breasts are really full) and I ordered the XL...it's the perfect size.
- Very comfortable, lightweight support
     By A2GDYVVX1GP165 on 2007-12-15
This bra is very comfortable for sleeping and lounging around the house. On occasion, I prefer to wear this style of bra going out, say with V-necks tops or wraps, because it looks better (no bulky straps, flaps, or snaps). The fabric is smooth, breathable, and very thin/lightweight (though it provides more support than you would think for this type of bra). It's very easy to hand-wash just in case. As a 36B/C, I ordered a Large and it fits fine.
- Great product at a great price
     By AN97Z1DJ1LK9V on 2008-02-08
I was a little worried after reading other reviews but this is a great bra. It never claimed to be a sports bra or push up bra and all I wanted was something to keep my chest up off my belly without tight elastic or wires. I'm still pregnant so I'm not sure how it will work when I'm engorged, but I can't see it suddenly becoming flimsy just because I gave birth. As for comments about the material, it's like an old cotton t-shirt or even just like a pair of old-fashioned white cotton panties. It is thin, and when you get cold it shows, but it's not marketed as an outside the house bra anyway. I wear this every day and sleep in it too. It's a great lounge bra.
- BEST sleep bra/hanging out at home
     By A3HV5EOKJF6H2C on 2008-03-26
AMAZING! BEST $20 i ever spent. How can such a comfy bra make my boobs looks so good? No dreaded uni-boob look and so comfy!!!! Gives great support (I am a 34 C) and stretches amazing for when i get engorged in the morning. Love how it covers the majority of my breasts and gives me support. Also looks good, does not looks like an ugly sports bra in the front. BUY IT. wish i had gotten it in the begging instead of wearing my medela seemless to bed (great bra, but not for bed if your used to not wearing any bra to bed).
- Sooooo convinient...
     By A1KCFXWC1GYPZL on 2008-04-12
The material is thin and breathable. It stretches enough so that even when I went up to a D cup, it still fit (ordered a large). It was very helpful during night time feedings. I wish I ordered more.
- Sleep Bra
     By AJUFM58BHLT0U on 2008-05-15
This bra does not work for me at all. I bought the Large for 38D, and when I wake up for feedings, I find that it is not even covering me at all...forget support. Since nighttime is when I leak, I wear absorbent pads, but they fall out and I wake up with the front of my shirt and even my sheets wet. Sorry to be so graphic, but it is the truth. I suppose the larger you are the less this bra is likely to help...so if you are large, dont bother. Buy an extra regular bra for sleeping.
- Not so supportive
     By A3E885LKYMVJAB on 2007-12-05
This was a very flimsy bra and I would not buy one again. Maybe it's great if you're a smaller size, but I'm a 38 D right now and the large was not cutting it. It is just not supportive.
- VERY Comfortable!
     By AYMFG4O24BY29 on 2008-01-07
I loved this bra so much I bought a second one! It's a little tricky getting on after a shower because it goes over the head but, once it's on, you hardly feel it. It gives great support and is easy to feed the baby. Highly recomend - especially for sleeping but it's very comfortable for daytime wear as well.
- serves its purpose
     By A1E3PPBBCM659S on 2008-04-14
Love this bra!
Please note that it's a SLEEPING bra so don't expect a whole lot of support from it.
But it serves it's purpose excellently - material is soft and easy on the skin. It's easy to pull down
for night time feedings. And of course, it protects sensitive nipples from friction against your clothes.
I would've ordered a size S but because the other ladies recommended ordering a size up, I ordered a
size M and it fits great. This is a must-have if you're uncomfortable wearing fitted bras at night but don't want to go bra-less.
- Wonderful!
     By A4WDCT1ELEZG3 on 2008-06-09
I LOVE this bra - makes sleeping and night nursing very easy and comfortable. A word of warning - they run small so if you're not sure which size to get go a size bigger!
- Very comfortable, not very supportive however
     By AUVUTAC87UL1X on 2008-07-08
For its purpose - a sleeping/nursing bra - this bra is great! Incredibly lightweight & comfy, the most comfortable bra I've owned. For nursing, this bra design is the most convenient by far, since you simply pull the cups aside, which you can do one-handed, in the dark, half-asleep. MUCH easier than clips or snaps. I'm expecting twins, and have no problems pulling both cups aside at once.
However, when I'm standing up, I get significant "sag". Possibly it's because I'm too flat-chested for even their smallest size, but I don't find this bra to be very supportive. I don't see how I could go smaller though, since there is no smaller size than "small", and most of the time I wear an A or occasionally B now that I'm 34 weeks pregnant. So I docked a star for lack of support for us smaller girls. But, when you're in bed, you're horizontal not upright, so maybe I'm not being fair.
Size-wise, "small" fits perfectly around my torso (I'm a 34A though now that I'm pg, am more like a 35A to B if that existed).
- Good for shorter moms
     By A12HWKCFGQML1F on 2008-09-17
Very comfortable fabric and good enough support for nighttime wear, but the straps are NOT adjustable. I am almost 6 feet tall, so I typically have to wear bras with the straps adjusted to the longest length. So, this bra does not work for me because it rides up.
- what size should I buy?
     By AWBUDIT6DH11U on 2007-09-19
I haven't bought it yet. But I'm going to since all reviews gave 5 stars. I just don't know whether I should get small or medium. I was 34B while not pregnant, now I'm 6 month pregnant. Which size should I buy? Thanks!
- Medela Sleep Bra
     By A2U2OTDEFH1A4C on 2007-12-18
This is a good sleeping vra for nursing easy to feed baby and keeps everything in its place
- Love it!
     By A338GP2C5KIYW8 on 2008-02-07
This bra is so comfortable and perfect for nursing at night. The only draw back about it is the straps do show near your neck no matter what type of shirt you are wearing, scoop or v-neck, so this bra is not very discrete. I am small chested and it does provide enough support as everyday wear, not just at night.
- Soo Comfortable
     By A37WRYPQHK5BJU on 2008-02-29
This bra is so comfortable it doesn't even feel like you are wearing a bra.
I needed some support at night but hated the tight feeling of a "day-time" bra and the Medela is so light and soft that it was exactly what I needed to feel comfortable at night.
- Very comfortable!
     By A11D2MM9QVNUZU on 2008-03-01
I love this bra! No it isn't very supportive at all, but it doesn't claim to be. It is however, the most comfortable bra I have ever worn. I'm a little worried though, reading the other reviews, that it will shrink, or that it will be much too tight on me once I have the baby. I am between a 40D and DD, and I am afraid it will be too tight later. I wish it came in a bigger size. But for now, it fits great.
- Pure comfort!
     By A2XVF2YE65FA2P on 2008-03-26
I bought this nursing bra for my third baby. It was very comfortable and nursing was easy at night.
- Bra
     By A3TOZQ814DSHYC on 2008-04-07
Did not receive item in mail but got a full refund quick. Good service.
- So comfy.
     By A3HJXZ11XTFB0E on 2008-04-30
This bra is just so comfortable!!! I don't need nighttime support (anymore) but need something to hold the pads in. Plus, when I am having a lazy or wash day at home, I wear it.
Worth the money!
- comfortable
     By A3VEW5WQ43RG9N on 2008-05-06
The sleepbra is comfortable, but be carefull with the size. I will order my next one, one size bigger for more comfort.
I love the Medela bra collections for pregnancy and nursering.
The Nursering Pads stay, where the belong.
- uncomfortable and small
     By A2KFVYIEI1Y4KT on 2008-05-19
These bras must run small. I have other sleep bras in a large and they fit perfectly. This one in a large is tight and rides up my back. I hate it and should of returned it before I thought I should wear it longer and get used to it.
- great sleeping bra
     By AW0TAFT5H3CWQ on 2008-05-29
Wish I had known how comfortable this bra was when I bought it during my pregnancy. I had bought only one. It is so used now after It's been 9 months now and still going strong after almost daily washes. It's great for use during pregnancy and especially during the breast-feeding period.
When I found out that my neighbor and friend was pregnant I went out and bought her two! She loves them!
- Nice but
     By A3AOQXR2IXDAKA on 2008-06-07
Very nice but if your breasts are getting filled with milk and get heavier, i suggest that you get a more supportive bra. I did wear it while pregnant but not once milk came!
- Comfortable and effective sleep bra
     By AC4UZLMFMSLWE on 2008-08-02
I am coming back on amazon to order another. I've got a bad back, so sleeping in my nursing bra was killing me. This is lightweight and perfect for what I was looking for - I highly recommend it, especially for those who are smaller up top.
