Don't allow yourself to get ripped off By A1ESA6TYHG8QFF on 2006-12-23
I cannot believe the reviewer who wrote that resolution and color would be better with an expensive Monster cable. This is a DIGITAL SIGNAL. As such, noise would have to be extreme to switch an off signal to an on and vice versa. Let me make this simple for you - you don't need this Monsterously expensive cable for the same reason you don't need a Monster ATA/SATA cable for the hard drives inside your PC.
Still not convinced? Let's look at the claims made by the advertising material:
1) Duraflex protective jacket. Looks great with your PS3. To tell you the truth, I never even SEE the cable attached between my PS3 and my TV, nor is it ever on my mind. As for the greater durability and easier installation, the first is a straw man (you are going to subject said cable to what stress, exactly???) and the second is true of EVERY HDMI cable available in the world today.
2) Dual strain relief, for repeated set up and tear down of the PS3. What, you're so tired of you're system that minute by minute you are disconnecting and reconnecting the cable on the back? How often do you anticipate having to plug/unplug your system, if at all?
3) Silver content solder connections. Transfers delicate low level signals. Complete and utter bollocks. Either the signal transmits or it does not. That is the nature of digital.
4) 24k Gold Contacts. Cuts down on the corrosion. Yep, I'm constantly replacing all of the ribbon cables and power supply lines inside my PCs because they are all corroded. Heh, if gold makes you feel better about getting fleeced, by all means buy Monster.
5) Nitrogen Gas-Injected Dielectric Insulator. Beautiful, if you go for all that Star Trek technobabble. Inverse tacheon retrorefactor emulsifier anyone? This one maximizes your video strength for the best picture possible. But what have we learned so far? The signal is digital - it either gets through accurately or it does not. And unless the cable is poor beyond belief, noise is not even going to factor into the equation.
I'm sorry for the other fellow who defends the pricing of Monster cables. Do yourself a favor and call some local electronics stores/cable makers. This king has no clothing, and spending such a horrible sum will leave you looking very silly indeed.
Digital signals don't "vary" By AENK4X1X4C5CM on 2006-12-16
Expensive cables for a digital signal are the worst sort of scam, and people who spend extra money for them are ignorant of the technology. For analog signals, cable-quality can vary your reception-quality (though not as much as people think). But digital signals transmit data in "1s" and "0s." The "1s" and "0s" either get through, or they don't. If they do get through, you have a picture (or sound). If they don't get through, you DO NOT. With digital (unlike analog), you never have to WONDER whether you could, maybe, if only you'd spent a little bit more money, be getting a better result. If you see a picture, you know the "1s" and "0s" got through. If you see NO PICTURE, then your connection is loose, or your dog chewed through the line, or you have a bad cable. There is no in-between. The beauty of HDMI, the beauty if digital, is that you no longer have to wonder. How long will companies like Monster be able to keep this secret. Even worse, they are marketing this cable as "Sony Playstation 3 Monster Cable," as if you needed a specific HDMI cable to work with the Playstation. Shame. You do want to take advantage of the HDMI cable for your Playstation. You don't need to spend more than $15 on that cable though.
Completely superfluous - buy a cheap one By A14M0TJAXSQTGV on 2007-02-10
While high end cables make a difference for analog signals (such as composite), the difference is far less with digital signals. In fact, digital signals arose mainly because they were not nearly as prone to noise, and small errors could be fixed with error checking. Thus, buying an expensive digital cable is a complete waste of money - the difference will be very slight (if noticeable at all), so save your money for some more games and buy a cheaper cable.
Don't waste your money here, you're buying a name, not a better cable By A3OZ6WIHZNUP72 on 2006-12-28
If you want a high quality cable, go to blue jeans cable and buy one. They are as good or better than the monster cables, they have far better service, and a superb return policy. Oh yeah, and they cost less than half what these ridiculously overpriced Monster Cables cost. You will get NO better performance out of a Monster Cable.
Probably a decent cable but, c'mon, $100? By A3OQC8UHHADG7F on 2007-02-26
The HDMI format, like fiber optic audio cable, transfers digital data.
It is far less subject to the constraints of analog audio or video cable and should be priced accordingly. Companies like Monster and Sony are clearly capitalizing on the public's lack of knowledge about a new technology. Don't be "taken in" and look for more reasonably priced but well constructed cables. If you're simply running a cable from your PS3 to a TV, $10 to $20 is the most you should ever have to spend. With a little hunting, good quality can be found for as little as $6.
Please Monster. Be a little less shameless! Jeez...

A digital cable is a digital cable. My HDMI cables cost $6 each and work every bit as well as this overpriced piece of hype. I use very nice speaker cable because it does make a difference, but these do not. Same goes for DVI and optical cables.
- A rather cheap high-end HDMI cable....
     By A1USON12IBY2KT on 2006-12-21
Saying digital signals don't vary is like saying a person is either dead or alive. Such is too simplistic a view.
It is very easy for cheaper digital cables to not transmit that precious 1 or 0 correctly when you are talking about as much as 45mbs (megabits of information (1s and 0s) every second). The material of the cable and the electronics required for HDCP are crucial for HDTV use.
I have used HDMI cables from Radio Shack costing $29.95 to Audioquest cables costing over $400 that connects into devices exactly the same way. Since the information passed are all 1s and 0s, you may think the picture and sound will be identical from the Radio Shack to the Audioquest. They are not. There will be noise with the Radio Shack that appears in the blacks as grey, the edges will flicker, and motion artifacts will be seen.
A more expensive HDMI cable like the Audioquest will have little to no noise due to better materials that achieve higher stability and isolation. The resolution and color will be higher and true.

- Wow, expensive but no discernable difference...
     By A30SJS5LUEZ6S2 on 2007-08-06
Bought this cable (paid almost $100) and tried it out at same time with $10 cable, made absolutely no difference. Returned and kept the cheap cable, monster is such a waste of money...
- Just a name like always...

Between this and my 26.00 Phillips HDMI, I did not notice any difference whatsoever. Save your moola for something else.
- Save Your Money!!
     By A1UMTAS144RG1A on 2007-02-22
Everyone is right, Monster is ripping people off right and left with their overpriced cables. Just type in a google search for HDMI cables and you will find a number of quality, low-cost alternatives.
- Get a less expensive cable with the same quality
     By A2SLS7W4K4UQ5F on 2007-02-24
Monster makes great, great products, don't get me wrong, but HDMI is the same from any manufacturer. There is absolutely no difference between this $85 Monster HDMI Cable and a $33 Phillips HDMI Cable availble at any retailer. All in all, this cable will provide you with the best picture and sound. and it is excellent qualityy, but you can get the same thing from a standard HDMI cable for much less.
Only buy this Monster Cable if you hate money.
- RIP-OFF!
     By A1X6WS9PPQC3GI on 2007-03-05
Shame on this company for gouging consumers. You can get the very same quality cable for 10% of the price.
Then you can take the $90 you saved and spend it on something useful ... like going to see Wild Hogs 9x -- starring the wildly untalented John Travolta and the never been less funny Tim Allen.
- waste of money
     By A1WBIIZ5KF7D6H on 2007-01-11
Seriously, don't be a sucker and buy one of these ridiculously overpriced Monster HDMI cables. Do a search online to find HDMI cables that are good and much cheaper (I suggest monoprice).
- Total Ripoff
     By A15KYGLTSX4JKP on 2007-10-22
The cable works as advertised. However you can purchase HDMI cables that perform 100% the same at about 1/20th of the cost. For the length of the cable, look to spend between $3-$5 and no more. Since HDMI is digital there is no degradation of picture/audio quality. It either works or it doesn't. Therefore the expensive monster cable has absolutely NO difference in video/audio quality.
Any HDMI cable from monoprice will work with the PS3.
- Rip-off!!!
     By AVRMT1UDZD9FE on 2007-06-07
Buying this cable is just like throwing money in the trash - cheap HDMI cables will do just as well as Monster. Monster needs to make products that actually have some justice to the price they charge. There is a small difference in analog cables and speaker wire performance, BUT THIS IS DIGITAL - THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE IN TRANSMISSION QUALITY with short distance connections! Cat 5 cabling with a HDMI plug at the end will do just as well!!! I have purchased Monster cables in the past, BUT NEVER AGAIN - this is treating consumers like they are complete idiots!!!
- Why you should buy a Monster HDMI cable.
     By A306EY1CXZBL6F on 2007-04-17
The only reason you would need to buy a high quality cable such as Monster is if you had to run the cable over 50 feet. Only with runs over 50 feet are you able to see a picture quality difference between Monster cable and generic cables.
- Monster Cable HDMI 1080p - Sony Playstation 3: Review
     By A1LBH85DP0NEVO on 2007-05-10
Although its regular price is over-priced, I happen to get it @ $45.00 less and with that sale price it is surely worth it!
Everyone I talk to and work with (Circuit City/Best Buy) say its the only way to get the most outta the Sony Playstation because it is designed and made with the next-gen console in mind. The picture is crisp and the sound is amazing in 5.1Surround Sound. Only get this is if: 1) You own a Sony Playstation 3 and 2) If you get it at a great sale price cause the regular price is too much.
I have it hooked up to me 40" Samsung 1080p LCD HDTV....
- Digital does not mean error-free
     By A15NSG16V2LJ8N on 2007-01-04
Every digital transmission system has a finite BER (bit error rate). The notion that a signal sent as a '1' will always be received/decoded as a '1' is not consistent with the laws of physics. There is an entire specialty within the science of information theory devoted to identifying and correcting transmission errors in digital signals. It would be far more helpful in this context to actually report on your observations of the product rather than some made-up notion you have of the physics involved. I have a somewhat longer monster HDMI cable that I am quite pleased with, but no, I have not subjected it to BER testing so I can not comment on its quality relative to other HDMI cables.
- Don't get this, you can do better!
     By A3EPZNFF590EXL on 2007-12-29
Overpriced for what you get. No need to pay Monster prices for a digital cable. Sony recommends using a cable rated for HDMI 1.3 to get the full benefit of Blu-Ray playback, and Amazon offers one for just 30% of the Monster price (see Cables Unlimited Premium 2 Meter Version 1.3 HDMI Home Theater Cable (PCM229502M)). Same results, and save yourself a lot of $$.
- AWSOME!!!
     By A3HXB8L2ZG5B3K on 2007-01-15
this cable made all the differance in the world. Very nice high def picture and very easy to use. highly recommended for anyone with a HDtv and a PS3.
- You get what you pay for !!!
     By A57PYG8KDUYPG on 2007-03-09
I bought an Acoustic Research Performance Series HDMI cable for my PS3 for $50 in December. It worked for two months fine but now my audio sounds like someone talking in front of a fan. At first I thought it was my PS3 but then I used it with my cable box and the same thing. I spent $600 on my PS3 what is $100 bucks for a good quality cable thats not going to to burn out after a couple of months.
- The only benefit of this cable is that you can laugh at those who buy it (just as long as it's not you)
     By AYH94PXKD5UI1 on 2008-01-15
A friend of mine works at a large electronics retailer, and has a love-affair with Monster cables. In all fairness he praises their power filters and their surge protectors more than their actual cables--however when he purchased a new Blu-Ray player he got this Monster HDMI cable "to make the most of HD."
I couldn't help but do a switcharoo and give him my $6 eBay HDMI and borrow his Monster. I was unable to notice any difference, and waited to see if he would. The night before I made the swap he was showing of Ratatouille almost frame-by-frame, and the next day he was doing it again--oblivious to the swap.
After giving him back his cable (and watching him swap the two back and forth looking for any difference) he made the decision to return the Monster (and ordered a $6 eBay cable).
To clarify, there was absolutely no noticeable benefit for paying 1000% the price.
- Only Monster

Is there REALLY anything else to say here... If your not using monster cable equipment already than you better crawl out from whatever rock your under ask somebody. Simply the best!
- HDMI moster cable
     By A20UESTC4RL1H9 on 2007-02-14
I bought this cable because I read its feature but I didn't compare it with normal HDMI cable to tell the different. And to tell the truth I bought expensive (HD TV) just for PS3 why not to pay extra money for very good quality cable so that I will not miss any thing.
But in my opinion I think the big different is that monster cable have less distortion and lose of data transfer than normal cable because they are using (24k gold contacts).
- GIVE ME A BREAK

STOP WASTING YOUR MONEY ON MONSTER CABLES A TWELVE DOLLAR CABLE FROM CABLES TO GO IS DESIGNED TO PERFORM THE SAME FUNCTION AS A 100$ CABLE FROM RIP OFF MONSTERCABLE. FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO THINK YOU KNOW THE DIFFERENCE...LMFAO KEEP BUYING EM'!
