  • Dhoom again and feel the beat of the rhythm

    By A3KF4IP2MUS8QQ on 2006-12-12
A lot of us here in America will have to wait for the eventual DVD release in order to see the much-anticipated Dhoom sequel, but at least we can go ahead and enjoy the heck out of its infectiously grooving soundtrack. While it may or may not equal the magic of the original Dhoom soundtrack, I seem to be enjoying it more and more each time I hear it. Not having seen the movie, and running far behind in my plans to begin learning Hindi, I can't put the songs in any sort of context or even tell you what most of them are about, but these songs would keep the dance floor crowded in any language. There's actually quite an international flavor to the songs, with Touch Me in particular evoking a Latin guitar and rhythm that works amazingly well, and a fair share of English lyrics in the mix (Dhoom Again is in fact almost completely in English). With Sameer providing the lyrics for Pritam's music, satisfaction is all but guaranteed.

Crazy Kiya Re seems to be the centerpiece of the album - and rightfully so, as this song is worlds beyond merely "catchy." The beat is infectious, all but consciously calling upon the listener to get up and go with it, and the vocals of Sunidhi Chauhan actually add even more energy to the song. The album also includes a Crazy Remix, courtesy of Bunty Rajput, which makes the beat even more powerful but, in my opinion, takes something away from the overall sound. Touch Me, featuring HK and Aisha Chinai, is almost as good as Crazy Kiya Re, in my opinion. A strong Latin influence combined with a strong interplay between the singers, makes this a sultry little number that is charged and ready for a night out on the town. My Name is Ali is the only track that didn't really grab me the first time around, but it continues to grow on me with each listen. Bipasha Basu contributes only minimally to the song, making it essentially a Sonu Nigam vehicle. Next up is Dil Laga Na, a really catchy number that reportedly serves a climactic capacity in the film, bringing all five characters together. Featuring the vocal contributions of Sukhbir, Soham Chakrabarthy, Jolly Mukherjee, Mahalaxmi Iyer, and Suzanne, it's certainly a real crowd-pleaser of a song, seeming to reflect the overpowering energy of the entire production. After the Crazy Remix, Dhoom Again closes the soundtrack out on an undeniable high point. Evoking the sound and spirit of the original Dhoom soundtrack, Vishal Dadlani and Dominique Cerejo make this track easy to love - and English-speaking fans will no doubt be pleased with the song's essentially all-English lyrics.

All told, we're talking about six tracks and a runtime of less then 29 minutes. I know that seems awfully short, and it is, but you won't feel the least bit taken advantage of because this whole soundtrack is just so much fun to listen to over and over again. Not only is this Dhoom 2 soundtrack overflowing with incredible music, it (like virtually all Bollywood films and soundtracks) is also astonishingly affordable. If you have yet to discover the sights and sounds of Bollywood, do yourself a huge favor and let Dhoom 2 give you a taste of what you've been missing.

To further guarantee that you're in no way disappointed, try and find the soundtrack featuring photo cards of the five main actors/actresses (which includes Aishwarya Rai somehow managing to look even hotter than ever) and a free CD of YRF Hits (YRF being Yash Rav Films, of course). This free CD runs 47 minutes and contains the following ten fantastic songs:
01 - Fanaa For You (chand sifarish club mix) from Fanaa
02 - Salaam Namaste (dhol mix) from Salaam Namaste
03 - Kajra Re (remix) from Bunty Aur Babli
04 - Hall Re from Neal N Nikki
05 - My Dil Goes Mmmm (english club mix) from Neal N Nikki
    06 - B N B from Bunty Aur Babli
    07 - N 'N' N - The Naughty Mix from Neal N Nikki
08 - Chup Chup Ke (remix) from Bunty Aur Babli
09 - Tere Liye (remix) from Veer Zaara
10 - Main Yahaan Hoon (remix) from Veer Zaara

The story line was great, refreshing and entertaining. I love Ash and Hrithik, they make a lovely bollywood couple. The dance sequence is wonderful. My youngest daughter has played this movie over and over so she could teach herself the dance moves... she got it down!

Great family entertainment. Love the kiss scene!!! yippiee.
