Might as well buy it - you're going to have to By ATKYHKNJAU5BK on 2007-02-17
Apple's warranty on the iMac is 3 months telephone support and 3 years hardware. However, in my experience, Apple won't honor their hardware warranty unless you buy the extended support plan.
After 4 months, I started having problems with the Mighty Mouse (see that product's Amazon listing for its own support problems).
I attempted to report the issue to Apple by telephone to ask how to get the hardware issue resolved under warranty. I explained what I had done to reconfigure the mouse, and was told "I'm sure I could help you resolve it with configuration, but you'll either need to pay $50 for this incident or get the care plan."
I got the care plan. Then I called back and gave the same explanation. This time I was immediately told that the mouse needed to be replaced under warranty.
The support under the plan is OK. It's deceptive that Apple doesn't include this cost in the price of the product. Unless you have no problems with it, and that seems unlikely these days, you'll need it.
I got my money's worth By AYW2WXB4VNXL0 on 2007-03-07
After 2.5 years of wear and being carried around the world, my iBook crashed and I was really in dispair--I was away and not close to an Apple store at the time so I tried just bringing it to an indpendent Apple retailer to see if I could just pay to have it fixed.
They were going to charge me to diagnose the computer, and said it was likely I'd have to pay a few hundred dollars to replace the hard drive. I had the uneasy feeling I was getting ripped off, so I waited to see a Mac specialist.
Because I had the protection plan, I made an appointment and within 10 minutes someone at the genius bar was able to figure out the problem. I got my entire hard drive replaced within a week, and the computer runs just like new and even runs on the latest operating system (which I didn't have). That, and they were even able to retrieve some of my files and burn them onto a DVD the same day I dropped it off for the repair.
I wish it didn't cost so much, or that Apple would just include this stellar cusotmer service in with their products as part of their branding; but even with the price tag I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.
Arrive on time. By A1NJXGKM7H5LEL on 2007-09-12
Talking about the order: it came on time and perfect conditions. Talking about the product: it is sadly a must have because apple produce excellent products but that always fail in something so better have it guys.
I love my iMac G5, but... By A27QBWIIJ3OCX9 on 2007-05-17
...I've had two defective power supplies and a bad logic board in the 2+ years I've owned it. Both occurred after the 1 year warrantee had expired. Fortunately, I had purchased Applecare, so I just took my iMac to the local Apple store. They fixed it, and I had it back, good as new, the next day.
Shipment problem By A2R8HLS28K1MYT on 2007-11-30
Unfortunately, the box contained the wrong product, differing from label on the box. I ordered the product for the iMac; the box contained the product for the laptop. I spent several hours on the phone trying to work with personnel in India trying to get this straightened out. I had to pay for the new product and request a refund (through a complicated procedure), which I have yet to receive. Communicating with the help desk was a nightmare.
- Awesome in a cardboard box.

It's a condom that lasts two years for your iMac. You can't go wrong!
- So Far So Good
     By AVKAQJJRZ8XPF on 2007-03-14
Very helpful, very friendly and very passionate about making your experience very positive. I have had to use AppleCare only once, and I truly felt like a valued customer. If I had to wait a few minutes, I was always told about the issue and the reason why. Definately worth the purchase.
- Highly recommend

I strongly recommend Applecare for any Apple laptop or iMac product that you have invested time and money. As a tech myself, these machines are bit more difficult to repair on my own and the costs for replacing such items as the LCD can be quite expensive. The AppleCare is well worth the investment.
- Product Performance
     By A1LVF6FI4N1P0E on 2007-08-09
This is my second Apple Care Protection Plan - No one should be without it that owns an Apple Product -
I needed repairs on my product and the cost of repairs would have been more than double the
cost of the plan - and my service in the Apple store was superb!
- Worth It
     By A3BLHFV5SVJYVB on 2007-08-18
Phone support is very good. It doesn't appear to be out-sourced and communication is easy. I never had to wait long for a rep. The phone support is available during business hours (I would perfer 24/7). Apple Stores are open evenings/weekends for Protection Plan issues.
Apple Care treated me well. I ended up needing it several times. I recommend having it for the 3 yr.s.
- So glad I bought it-don't like giving Credit Card info
     By A1BNT6QXKREVDR on 2008-03-06
I think Apple makes great products, but technology is faulty. My experience with apple and dell is that something will break in 3 years. I will most likely cost you more
I DON'T like that when I need a replacement part, they ask me for a credit card number. Dell NEVER did that. It seems to me if their product is broken, why should I give them access to my credit cards.
There was NO way around it except to take it to an apple store (which is nowhere near where i live) and have them special order the part because they don't carry it in stock.
besides that part, I'm very glad I bought it. I always use or exceed the amount it costs in 3 years.
- Peace of mind

For $149 you can't beat it in terms of peace of mind for three solid years.
- Don't buy if you live in Florida
     By A3MC7B073COJK8 on 2008-01-20
Applecare is an excellent product but you must purchase it from an Apple retail store or from Apple online if you live in the sunshine state. If you don't you will be able to get a refund and then buy from a retail store or from Apple online. Please save yourself some time if you live in Florida and follow this advice.
- Apple care

Basic extension of warrenty on Apple products from 1 year to 3 years. worth the price especially on portables.
- Imac Applecare
     By A15XLPE243GL2Z on 2008-08-19
This is a must for every Imac owner. Used it already and spoke with a guy in Houston, Tx. He went above and beyond anything I have experienced to make sure the problem was corrected. Apple is definitely setting the pace for other manufacturers to follow. Amazon has a good price on the product.
