HDMI cable By AR5IA5KXRJPA2 on 2007-08-18
"no such thing as a better cable" is a misnomer. HDMI cables are rated by the bandwidth capacity (commonly known as bitrate per second), the higher the rate, the more info it can pass digitally in a given timeframe. Why is this important? Because, as games become faster, and higher-bit color graphics emerge, HDMI cables will need the additional bandwidth capacity to smoothly transmit the digital signal from game/video source to your T.V. Emerging technologies, such as 12, 16, and 18-bit color, and "lossless audio" will become standard in the near future.
There are some HDMI cables capable of 3.4 Gbit/s, which can more than handle today's 1080P/12-bit color requirements. Some manufacturers, like Monster Cable, claim 10.2 Gbit/s with their M1000HD series HDMI cable, but it's really 3.4 Gbit/s cable multiplied by it's channels (3).
Current sources, such as HD DVD, BluRay and the current crop of PS3 games are adequately served by the HDMI cable listed here. However it won't be long before a "better cable" is required to handle the latest technology. You don't have to sweat it, for the moment.
Poor cable, would not support 1080P By AGV4LXIA1BFMX on 2008-02-22
I would not recommend this cable at all. I purchased this cable in order to hook up a PS3 to a Samsung 40" LCD TV. The highest setting I could get though was 1080I. I subsequently purchased another cheaper HDMI cable from Amazon and had no issues at all getting set up at 1080P.
Here is the cable I bought that worked:

OK cable better elsewhere By A2620FU6M0WOXM on 2008-01-24
The most important factor that makes a good cable is gauge and quality of the wire in the cable, the second most important factor is the length. You should use the shortest cable possible. 8ft is likely much longer than most users will need. Also this cable is not made by Sony and it does not have any special advantages to using it with a PS3.
The Magic Cable of Wonders By A3NYGKAX06A4FS on 2007-11-05
Amazing! This is the first time i have bought an hdmi cable, and seeing any blue ray disc movie, or playing any game without this cable on my 50 inch plasma is a disgrace to having an hd tv. I'll tell you right now, if you have an hd tv then you must buy this, the difference is HUGE! Not to mention the fact that this cable is about one quarter of the price of most of the other hdmi;s. Please do your self a favor and get this cable. Trust me you will not be disappointed....
Cable does not work! By A1IJRM89BN8RYT on 2008-02-12
This cable did not work with any of my equipment. I ordered it with my PS3 to connect directly to my TV. I had no signal at all. Also tried from my HD cable box to the TV and had no better luck.
I tried my PS3 with another HDMI cable and had no problems.
Don't buy this cable.
- A good choice that won't break the bank
     By A3095W7KNMKXAK on 2007-09-18
This cable is well constructed with a nice, high quality, thick, jacket that usually comes on more expensive cables. It's a great compromise if you don't want to shell out $80 for an overpriced cable without resorting to using a lesser quality cable. I'd reccomend it to anyone.
- Not a good choice for a ps3 cable
     By A3RKTV7E9UIVMY on 2008-02-07
I purchased this cable because it is 8ft and I had a 4ft monster ultra 1000 hdmi cable but was too short. I was able to do a comparison and although the ultra 1000 is expensive it will give you the assurance that it performs to the maximum. This cable however had speckles on the xmedia bar screen whenever there was black and during movie trailers in darker scenes and it made a popping noise when the ps3 was turned off (I believe this was mentioned in another review). I know this because when switching to the expensive cable it had outstanding picture and doesn't miss any details, including dark scenes or black. Maybe it was a defect. but when ordering online it takes too long to replace it and try again with the same one. I would like to think that the expensive cables are overrated but in this case, they clearly won.
- Not good enough
     By AVFM2V26NNN6D on 2008-03-18
I bought my PS3 and all the bits to get my GT5 Prologue working on my 1080p tv and was disappointed...
The PS3 was fine playing a Blu-Ray movie, but even the opening credits on Gran Turismo we just breaking up all the time. I did a lot of reading and the whole debate about how a $10 cable will do the same as a $70 on etc... well I ditched this cable for a Monster 1000hdmi and guess what.. now I have flawless audio and display in 1080p with not even a hint of a problem.
If you are having a similar problem, you will have to make up your own mind. I don't think the build quality of this cable is that good and given the movies work and game didn't, I am more like to believe that it just wasn't capable bandwidth wise to do the job.
- Verify before you buy....
     By AMCTC2D83LTCW on 2008-03-02
Although this seems to be a fairly well constructed cable for the price, it does not appear to be 1.3 compliant. Avoid the hype that it says it's for PS3. If your TV requires an HDMI 1.3 compliant cable, you will not get better than 1080i, or in my case, garbled video. Nowhere on the packaging could I find the spec, even on the MFR's web site.
- Works perfect, no guess on this one
     By A3KLDEKXJZNT13 on 2007-07-16
Figured if it's made by Sony it should work first try with the PS3, not the cheapest but well worth the quality.
- Could not transfer 1080p for me
     By A1WAEZLKMH7IN8 on 2008-01-08
I used this cable to connect PS3 to 50" plasma, and when I tried to set the resolution to 1080p the screen went blank. The most it could handle was 1080i. I got another HDMI cable from Walmart (for much the same price) and it worked. My guess is this cable does not conform to 1.3a standards.
- DOA
     By A1NAJ4PNV26SI6 on 2008-02-15
I wasted about 4 hours trying to make sure everything was hooked up right after my new PS3 wasn't displaying on the screen. I Google'd, Amazon'ed, and PS3Forum'ed for hours. Finally, I thought, "eh try a different cable". Son of a gun! This cable was the culprit. I knew it was too good to be true. $18.99 for a good -looking, and working, HDMI cable...I think not.
- Doesn't support 1080p
     By A1WHS81VCGVOTL on 2008-01-31
I bought this cable to get 1080p out of my PS3 (yes, I have a 1080p cabable television). However, attempting to change the ps3 settings to 1080p would result in the 30 second blank screen followed by the restored settings.
To test, I unhooked the HDMI cable that was connected to my DirecTV HD DVR and proceeded to connect it to my ps3. Voila, 1080p.
Don't be swayed by the cheap price as I was. If you want the 1080p experience, buy a better cable.
- Why is this labelled a PS3 Cable??????
     By A66SJHRNYWSHM on 2008-02-05
I purchased this cable and hooked it up to find out that I could only transmit 1080i through it, instead of the full 1080p that the PS3 can output. Of course it took me a while to realize it was the cable because this one is hyped up to be the "PS3" cable. I tried a $20 cable from Sams, and a free HDMI cable I got from my cable company and they both worked great at 1080p even though they had no indication of being a PS3 cable. Be sure to pick up a HDMI cable which supports HDMI version 1.3.
- Do NOT buy!
     By A3V67JZQI8M85D on 2008-03-12
I purchased a new HD 1080 TV and a playstation 3 a couple of months ago. I was using a Belkin HDMI cable I purchased for both cable tv and the PS3, switching back and forth whenever I wanted to use the other device. I decided to purchase this cable since the price was so low (compared to the 45 dollars for the Belkin) and since it had good reviews. I received the cable and plugged it in right away. To be as nice as I can, the quality was terrible. It was grainy and had a lot of static in the picture. I switched between the Belkin and this cable to make sure it wasn't a poor port or something else but everything I tried led back to this cable. DO not buy this. It is not worth the price and you will end up with an inferior product and a terrible picture. Luckily amazon let me return the cable however I am now without a HDMI cable for even longer!
- Overpriced Garbage
     By A2LKR5ZFGEZNP3 on 2008-05-20
This HDMI cable is not very good value for money. You can get much better cables at whatever length you want for much less at certain online vendors. Not sure why they market this cable specifically for the PS3, maybe the color scheme?
All in all just get a different cable.
- Strong HDMI Cable at a Reasonable Price
     By A61R9081V43B4 on 2007-12-12
I have the PS3, and I need a HDMI cable for that 1080p experience. I bought this for the simple reason that it was at a decent price, unlike those other expensive cables or those cheap cables at like $5. I went with something in between those prices. It felt very durable and lasting. The coating of the wire I think is very good and sturdy/strong. The cable would have been a 5/5 from me if there weren't some problems.
The first problem. I plug in the cable, I on the PS3, and when the PS3 is communicating with the HDMI cable, you hear a popping noise and a static screen. this happens if i start a game or a bluray. NOW, THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN DURING GAMEPLAY OR WHILE WATCHING THE MOVIE. It only happens when you turn it on. The problem went away after like two weeks, it could be because the PS3 need to get used to it maybe the HDTV that I'm using.
The second problem. There are many version of HDMI cables. The description of the cable given here specify what version it is. I think the latest version is 1.3, which offers some capabilities that I dont' know. Now, this cable works fine and give me a great picture, but not knowing if this cable is the latest version that will stand the test of time is bad. I tried searching online, but no help, maybe somebody here has better luck than me.
Other than that, worth the money. Really, HONESTLY. It's better than paying for it expensively, and it give me a great 1080p. I wish I knew what version HDMI it is though?
- Great price, excellent results!!

Excellent performance, great price!! other cables are much more expensive but this one works great for image/sound. Great deal!!
- Overpriced HDMI cables
     By A3R7DKKRM97BLL on 2008-02-10
Although these are nice hdmi cables its overpriced. Usually what makes a good cable is cables that are well shielded with good connection points. Since HDMI cables are pure digital cable just get much cheaper version. You won't be able to tell the difference. Also just because its PS3 hdmi cable don't mean its designed specially for it. Any decent quality hdmi cable will do that job.
- Make the switch to HDMI
     By A17M7N2AY7F2QH on 2008-02-15
I've never used an HDMI cable before so I can't compare the quality to the more expensive cables out there. However, this HDMI cable works perfectly for its purpose.
I was curious about the hype - all the online reviews said your PS3's true potential will be unleashed using HDMI. The reviews were right, HDMI rocks.
Instantly increases visual clarity and sharpness from your PS3 to flat-screen. The audio sounds louder and more crisp as well. DVDs and Blu-Ray are 1000x better as well.
Don't stick with your PS3's A/V cables... they're as antiquated as dial-up Internet or rotary phones. HDMI is the only way to go. The difference is comparable to being punched in the eyeballs making everything blurry (A/V cable) to having Lasik surgery and everything being crystal clear (HDMI).
- Great cable
     By A3NZOXDFHUP2WU on 2007-08-11
Works well, not too expensive. Remember, it's digital so there's no such thing as a "better" cable.
- works fine, no complaints
     By A2JA5JQKM7ALBH on 2007-12-16
Bought a fresh playstation3, and an HDTV, so didn't want to scrimp on the connection. Cable works fine, both for playing games and watching blu-ray movies ... good choice !!

     By A1GP10JTG7Y66K on 2008-03-06
I couldn't have imagined PS3 being more addictive; but, this HDMI cable has done the trick at, bonus, a price that was 30% of what I found at my local Radio Shack. The cable was a snap to set up and really did improve the quality of my gaming experience.
- Great item
